You're telling me. You know how many times I lay in bed at night thinking about the project I am about to start. I convince myself it's going to going to take 2 hours.... 2 days later, I have a whole new house. haha
Based on my experience of watching super high quality content driven yt tech videos over a decade, your channel is surely going to be the best in few years. Highly impressed on your pace, technicality, transparency and primarily the usability of content! Much love mate!
Honestly, I think it's time to build a proper PC. This awesome desk is just wasted on some shitty laptop. Desktop would offer more power for same price, you wouldn't have to deal with all the dongles and it could probably be built in to the desk itself. Which would be really cool.
The “more power for the same price” argument doesn’t really work since he’s already bought the laptop, plus the portability aspect of a laptop could be important to him
@@ZillionPrey but then if he will use his desktop then his main files won’t be on his laptop that’s one issue and it’s a very big one like bro you can’t bring your desktop OK and all your files are there. How will you transfer them now it’s a bore just put it in the hard drive or in the SSD you know like if it’s already there in the same format and then a laptop is just a way better option you know.
Damn, I've been seeing some of your videos and honestly thought you were a multimillion subscribers youtuber. Never realized that you were at a couple of thousands. So, keep doing what you are doing, cause you are doing it right! Earned my subscription!
I love this series, here is a little tip to the glaring issue on the Touchscreen: Get a Matt Protective foil for touchscreen displays. This will eliminate a good portion of the glare and also will hide a lot of fingerprints. I also think, that this would look better in your setup because of the frosted look you get with it.
Great to see the project evolution. I have a suggestion to "solve" the reflection problem: Consider to use a matte screen protector, like one we can use on smartphones. I use one here and it make my phone screen looks like a colored e-ink display. You will get 0 reflection. The downside is: the light will not be reflected, but can spread on the screen, here, depending on the angle of the screen and light, can affect the visibility. You can give it a try. Its not expensive and it will be easy to remove if you don't liked.
so cool! I love making spaces that look like movie sets and my next plan is making my studio look more cyberpunk. I had no idea what to do for the desk but you just gave me an incredible idea. will try something like this, it looks cool and seems very useful. thanks!
I have a feeling if we looked at our AliExpress pages the order history would be similar haha, the aluminium extrude desk is a brilliant idea! I hasn't considered that but I used t extensively in my Van! crazy, also the Gridfinitry bins just sitting in the drawer made me chuckle. This is a cool setup!
You have a 3d printer, a laser cutting device, a colorometer, and countless other high-quality toys, but you can't afford a new USB hub? 🤨 (Sweet desk btw, I'm just jealous that you are implementing all the ideas I've only dreamt of 😅)
All purchased before I left my high paying university job to pursue RUclips full time. Financial circumstances can always change, but I'm grateful that I have the equipment I need to do what I love to do!
Hey if you want to program on raspberry pi remotely I would advise using a server that runs code server. You then use sshfs to bind a folder to your server. You then use the code-server program , which runs a visual studio code client on the web, to program on the pi by navigating to the folder and programming on your pi. you can then ssh the the terminal in code server and run your programs that way. All headless.
Amazing suggestion! I'll order one that I can cut down to size, and then swap out to 4 of those "non-beveled" edge washers to compensate for the added screen thickness 🤙 love the idea
oh my you won't believe! as I hit send on my comment my mind flashed back to having spare matte screen protectors for an iPad Pro from 2017... sure enough I check the cupboard and it's there. I'll cut one down to size and give it a go.
You inspired me to do something simular with my set up. Im still trying to find a way to mount it I might 3d print a holder of some sort. Thank you for sharing. PS You also helped me set up the touch controls so thanks for that.
Sometimes the user needs to find the touch settings in Windows to set which screen is paired with the touch panel, because Windows never gets it right by its own when the touchscreen is not the primary display! 🙄 This "Raspberry touch LCD" is perfect, despite it's just 800×480 resolution, it's nicely plug-and-play in Windows, despite it's not marketed for it at all! 🙂 My version doesn't support sound, just HDMI display only. I just mounted mine onto a salvaged leg from a broken old LCD monitor, nothing fancy. 🙃
This is great! Can't wait to see the finished desk! Also as others have mentioned, it is insane that your subscriber count is so low, but keep doing what you are doing and I can guarantee you will be in the multimillions.
Fantastic addition to the desk! I'm so perplexed by decisions from the screen manufacturer haha. How is it that residue-leaving stickers are still being used in 2024?! 😂 Can't wait to see what's next!
Stoked to see your impressions of the super note; that thing looks rad. I love pen and paper though, I'm a little old school. Desk is coming together brilliantly man - for some reason I want to see a little more stuff on the surfaces; like knobs and sliders next to the screen ... do you have plans to add more controls density or are you liking it clean like this? Thanks again for putting all these videos together it's so fun to be along for the ride, and to learn with you! LAST THING: I feel like you could have chiseled / routed out a little channel on only the back side of the wood / plastic to accommodate that pesky ribbon cable. A little manual work, but I feel like it wouldn't be too bad to achieve that glorious tighter fit. Cheers mate
Yo Adam, Your idea about chiseling out a bit has stuck in my mind since you left this comment. Tune into the next part releasing tonight, as I reference your great comment here! In regards to more stuff, yes I want to add switches, led bar indicators, 7 segment displays, but that's all after coding the dashboard. Thank you for the tip
@@camshand oh awesome! I can't wait to see what you've come up with! It's always a good day when there's a desk update, and I'm honored to have contributed a little idea. Cheers!
You may have a non standard setup. but i also have a middle screen that is 2k 144hz that i had a tough time finding dock for my work laptop and also a 3 port KVM that could run triple Display port outs. That way i have work and home office in one desk setup. 3rd monitor always fails to switch. so i have a nice 3 port display kvm but i use 2 and switch hdmi/display on the center monitor to make it all work....ahhhh. this should be so simple by now. FYI: when i saw the small screen i thought you should of got the long super wide screens for that center console. They make 12" x 4" touch screens and similar sizes. that would look really cool in that center location. I almost got one to go into my custom pc desk.
Your wife is probably happy that her desk is already perfect hahahaha. Love all the iterative tinkering you're doing with your desk! Let's go!!! Docking station sponsor!
Great video, love this! I'm interested in the UI that you come up with. I was thinking of getting a smaller monitor touch screen and emulating android through it (Bluestacks)
Oh nice I keep forgetting about Bluestacks! I'll be playing around with the UI over the next few months, trying to decide on if it's all a static page or if I develop some different pages for "modes" like one view for productivity, gaming, etc.
Hmm... You can get polarising filters for cameras that reduce reflections... I'm wondering whether it's possible to get a screen protector with the same properties to fix the issue shown at the end.
I built a mount for my Ipad and the same thing happened with the reflection, that's just how the universe works. I went back and made it slightly adjustable.
Yes that's on my list! Been looking at some low profile adaptors. but I do know that FPV drone cables are super thin with essentially PCB and ribbon cable so might look for some of them
I did this to my desk but i used a pair of mini 14in 3840x1080 ultra wide touch displays getting my 26in long dash board all running on a Pi4-8gb micro HDMI and usb's for touch into a dual KVM so i can switch the displays to my main PC or the Pi
I've gotten one of these for my setup, and I love it. However, the one thing I don't like is how it moves my mouse cursor to wherever I'm touching the screen (It's not independent). Do you happen to have any solutions for this?
I don't unfortunately, as it's a windows touch input "feature" I haven't really looked into if there's software that can override it as I tend to only touch the touchscreen when gaming and that doesn't snap my mouse to the monitor as the game keeps my mouse on it
Awesome project my man! Really inspiring to even try something like this desk for myself! And also I laughed hard with the room light directly reflecting no the middle screen 😂 Cheers my friend! ✌️

You could cnc a groove for the stick-out ribbon on the underside, so the top is flush with the screen
