- As Los Angeles crumbles around them, Jackson (John Cusack) and his family make a daring attempt to escape the city by plane… | Buy or rent 2012 here: amzo.in/movie/og9/2012-2009
Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

I watched this movie again with my 6yo daughter, it was her first time watching it, when this first destruction scene came up, she asked, "Pa, how did you survive all this?" 😅
Oh my god, you shouldn't watch that with a 6 year old 😑
@@Fruechtchenboo hoo lil bro 🤡
Kids are brutal. My niece asked my sister what were the 60s like, and if she met MLK! My sister is 40 btw 🤣
bruv what you think this is? evil dead?
Tell all this are come if human do selfinesss things with out careing of nature it's not a laughing waste fellow 😐
The amount of destruction, and people falling to their death screaming in agony, this scene is both spectacular and horrifying.
I shall make up the word“specterrifying”.

The amount of main character energy is needed to survive all that is crazy

The best scene in the entire movie. The Death and Destruction in this scene alone is pretty damn insane and the special effects hold up pretty well for a movie that came out 15 years ago. I can’t imagine how terrifying it would be to experience a scenario like this only to die a horrifying death with the ground disappearing beneath your feet, at that point it would be pointless to be scared anymore and to just accept your fate as you fall into what looks like a bottomless pit

The worst part about it is the fact la had no traffic
I was 10 when this came out. How time flies. Amazing film.
Underrated scene. This movie gets weird at the end but the first two hours is solid af
It's only weird because they said only Africa exists as a land mass.
Curious what about the ending is weird for you
The last half kinda sucks when it comes to action ngl
@@ronj7658 Maybe the part where they treat the ending as humanity being decent despite the fact that all the people they had mercy on and let onto the arks were uber rich people. They treat it as if they had just saved the common people who allowed the rich to get so wealthy. Nope all of us normies died after making the uber rich the money they needed to be saved, but this is supposed to be humanities moment of beauty. It was also given religious undertones, even though it isn't the rich that are supposed to be saved in the end if you go by the bible. Not only that but they treat Africa as the promised land, however every African on Africa would have been dead due to the landmass raising thousands of feet in elevation in only a few days. So basically if you go by the religious interpretation then that would mean god killed all of africa to give the land to the western world after the apocalypse which has weird racial messaging as it is. No matter what though, all of Africa died so that (mostly white people) could take the land, and nobody seems sad about the rest of humanity dying.
@@neffdigitydogbecause it's a new beginning all those old emotions and concepts of racism and being divided are no more.......the idea of the ending is that humanity can survive and build a better future together.....save your racist rant for somewhere else..
When we said we were waiting for a California housing market crash, this isn't quite what we meant.
😂 the greatest comment ever
No, no, it is.
A crater where a house stood would still be $1,000,000
“Take the La Freeway, it’ll be half the time”. I always laugh at this part because I’ve never been to LA but ik enough about it that u should never take the freeway if you’re trying to get somewhere quick, especially in a chaotic situation like this 😭
Former L.A. resident and can confirm everything you know about the freeway system is painfully true 😅
I was going to say the most unrealistic thing about this entire movie was someone who lives in LA saying to take the highway, it would be faster 😂
@@kirbystarnino4199 EXACTLY 🤣
I feel like while it's a decent idea *normally* because freeway = faster than residential roads... Two problems with that plan.
1) It's the most extreme earthquake that the world has ever seen, so most tall structures, including highways, will collapse.
2) Even if the highway *somehow* stays intact, chances are, many other people would have had the same idea which clogs up the highway with the sheer amount of people, or because someone panicked and crashed into the divider, creating a pileup.
The most unbelievable chase scenes ever made
Straight facts
😊
Especially when those two old women would not have crashed with how slow they were going
Unbelievable is Jackson reviving Woody’s pirate radio signal from Yellow Stone all the way to LA.
@@PauloHernandezXDWell, signal-wise, Yellowstone isn’t really that far from L.A, he probably could’ve just barely received it.
The people on the highways and on the roads falling to their deaths hits really hard. Usually as audience members we feel empathy, but the characters are always probably thinking, “so glad I ain’t them.”
Cannot believe how bad the Scwarzenegger impression is 😂
Except it’s actually him.
@@kellygarland63no its not😂🤣
The fact the world actually believed that this was happening in 2012 is insanity to think back on lol
Oh it'll happen just wait....... California is believed to sink into the ocean as the plates shift, that part is a true theory.....
Yeah, it makes sense, considering the hundreds of disaster in 2011.
Jackson (the main character) actually orchestrated everything in this movie so that his ex-wife's boyfriend dies so that he can bond with her again
The plot armour in this movie is insane
Whoever did that Schwarzenegger impression absolutely butchered it 😂😂

i didnt know Schwarzenegger could do a bad Schwarzenegger impression....
1:30 Never say the worst is over. It only means the worst is just getting started.
Cliche, right?
Its sad seeing the police and fire department still attempt to help people even tho they know they are going to die
nah it’s the opposite it should inspire you to see people helping others no matter the situation
The scene would be more intense & terrifying if they took out the comedy elements
This whole scene is ridiculous comedy.
The entirety of Hollywood was destroyed today. Nothing of value was lost.
Nothing of value was lost? Almost every valuable thing was lost! The canyon took everything into it!
@@heisgonenowheisgonenow California as a whole is a piece of shit. So no. Nothing of value was lost.
5:48 the entire Los Angeles ground is about to collapse by the force of the earthquake
I mean considering just about all of California is built on land that's technically not part of the continental plate it's not that surprising.
Moments later, the San Andreas fault moves and creates a chain reaction on the Ring of Fire. A lot predicted this to happen in 2012 even though this film came out in 2009
Still looks better than ACTUAL Los Angeles 2024
For the destruction of Los Angeles, I'm sure Scrat has something to do with it.
Who’s here in 2040 when this went down In 2036 20 years off when we thought it would happen in 2012 and now we’ve rebuilt the world
This scene is a childhood classic for me, it’s also so well done too for a 2009 film
Technology wasn't thag arcaic in 2009
What makes this scary is that THIS can happen at ANY MOMENT.
We would know beforehand. This movie is WILDY inaccurate, but it's still super entertaining.
San Francisco is cold this morning, but this clip put me in a much better mood. Heart warming and fun for the whole family.
Say what you will about this movie, the destruction scenes are some of the best Emmerich ever directed, and it’s legitimately scary to see the city fall apart around the characters.
Undoubtedly the best scene of the movie
Am I the only one rewatching, just specifically looking for the NPCs? 😂

Yeah i feel bad for those grandmas
The fact that they didn’t show the Hollywood sign in this…. 😕😕😕

Despite how so-so the movie is overall these are simply some of the coolest special effects I've ever seen in a theatre.

one of the best destruction scene in a movie....simply amazing
Amazing visuals, but breaks a whole lot of the laws of physics and aviation. In reality, there's no way that plane would've gotten any lift to get out of there.

With John Cusack, this movie should have been titled, “Better Off Dead 2.”
This movie would have been better if they didn’t have plot armor for the main characters.
IKR? The worst was the scene when one of the ship was flooding. You just can't survive that long underwater AND all the while pulling a heavy piece of machinery from the door's gigantic gear.
AND, sorry for russki tech, you just can't fly a plane in an ash-filled sky. Just can't
True, but they are the main characters.
@@star-boltlover9609True enough. Just don't put them in a situation where death is the only realistic option Kurt Russell, in "Poseidon" died underwater just because he couldn't make it. Father should've been a goner in the ship scene.

They continued flying on ground though 🤣
The whole time after they left the runway I was just thinking "PULL UP!" They're in a tiny plane, there's no reason they should still be dodging buildings collapsing lol. As soon as they got enough speed they should have just gained as much altitude as they could.

No faultline on Earth is ANYWHERE near this powerful.
THIS cannot happen.
@kingtigercrownestate9102 the difference is the cause of the fault doing this, the entire plot of the movie is that the sun basically uppercut earth's magnetic field so hard that the entire crust violently jerked into a new position, which is what caused all of this
It's technically not the faults fault, it's literally everything else
@@kingtigercrownestate9102the sun caused a reaction with the earth that causes the poles and literal land mass to shift creating the dramatic shaking apart we see ....it absolutely can happen because a pole shift is a real hypothesis.....
