- I like this movie much more, than 2012.
1) No annoying yelling kids.
2) No surviving at last possible second, without any injuries.
3) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
4) Actual practical use of many tools and vehicles.

Not even the Bay Bridge gets fucked up more than Golden Gate Bridge
If it’s not the golden gate, it’s the Statue of Liberty 😭😂

I like that not just the protagonists were smart enough to figure out that they needed to get over the tsunami.

3:40 One thing I love about this scene is when the camera is on the ground everything is loud and chaotic, then when the camera switches to an aerial view it is calm and majestic, almost like you are disconnected from the chaos happening below.
Thats an amazing way to interpret it
2014
humans are loud and chaotic
Wow, great interpretation; it gave me animal planet vibes honestly :)
Gave me chills to see all the boats rushing towards the wave, I feel so bad for the ones who didn't make it, I know it's fictional but at around 2:20 you could see probably a dad steering the boat, with his wife and kid in life jackets, it's only a spilt second but I really appreciate the attention to detail
The dad at the airport that has just taken off with his family aboard his six seater BEECHCRAFT BONANZA G36
"Thank God I took flying lessons instead of buying a boat"
Really makes you think about the little details🤔
it wont be though
2:22 plus you can see the sea receding towards the wave
If the movie was released in 2021 the small detail would have boycotted the whole movie lol

Probably because those random people would be us realistically
Something about the scene with all the boats trying to escape, together with the music, always gets me. All these people, struggling to survive together.
In case you didn’t know if you go fast enough, you can actually overlap the tsunami and get past it. There is a high chance you might fail, but there’s also another high chance that you might complete it, so this can sometimes save your life if you go to slow, you’re gonna capsize and die, so make sure to go as fast as your boat can stay safe.
Well, we certainly know now because we just watched them do it. And LOTS of people had the same idea.
Yeah those bigger boats that head towards the wave are not gonna make it
Thank you
Bruh you cannot simultaneously have both a "High chance" of failing and a "High chance" of succeeding. Reality doesnt work that way.
One thing I always love seeing in disaster movies is seeing all the other people who either manage to make it, are just as smart as the main characters or are seeing trying to help other people. This is a perfect example, showing the countless boats all realizing they have to get over the way before it chrests.

It got me shedding tears after seeing the elderly couple looking out the catastrophic waves and hugging each other till they die knowing they're not gonna survive
no matter how fast you run, no matter how far you're from, the wave still catches up to you
Yeh, real tsunamis are nasty work because they are deceptively slow. They seem to be easy to outpace till the water starts to nearly puddle at your feet, more like filling a bath tub than a force of nature at first, from then on it´s just seconds before the actual flow hits with no way to get out if you are not really close to a raised area or very solid building, and it just keeps on coming in. Thats one of the things you see a lot in the videos from 2011 Japan. People only walking away from the spreading puddle of water, because they cannot see the rapidly approaching main body of the wave and are deluded into thinking they have time by it.
I was actually on the Golden Gate Bridge when they were filming this scene in 2014! They had a whole fleet of boats going back and forth, doing multiple takes with helicopters flying under the bridge. I clearly remember the speedboat that the Rock was driving, but didn't know what the movie was or who was starring in it at the time. Very cool to see the finished product!

@ZACH ATTACK Haha I am.
The fact that monster waves like this are actually plausible and that we see rogue waves completely destroy ships its not a surprise to me that this movie really encapsulated what it means to be at sea when the oceans against you.
tsunami arent rouge waves tho... a tsunami isnt a wall like in the movie but a rather shallow steady climb to the apex and down again... out in the ocean i wouldnt even notice the tsunami... a waves width depends on the depth.. at 7km depth a tsunami is 943 kmh fast and 282km long... so u would hardly notice that even a 100meter wave... at 10meter depth the wave reduces in speed down to 36kmh and a lenght of 10km... so even a 100m tsunami would be only 0.5729° of a climb... in the movie the tsunami would need to be about 4500 meters +- for that sort of climb needed to get over the wave...
@@luxaly9510 I think they were going for it being in the bay, so the water would be "shallower". Reality check though, but this size wave for a tsunami is only possible for a landslide tsunami. Similar to the one in Alaska and what happened with Krakatoa. Up in Oregon/Washington there actually is a seismic area that can and will eventually cause an underwater landslide that will cause a huge tsunami. They've got evacuation zones and clearly marked escape routes... it was really interesting finding out what was what when I was there visiting.
Just for clarification cause I just looked it up... this wave would have to be around 800ft to hit the Golden Gate like that.
@@animehuntress9018 or an asteroid maybe also possible given the proper size
