Yes- she’s literally so determined to stay alive, she basically starts killing herself. I thought that was both hilarious and sad on my first play through
In the neutral run. She has ample amounts of determination to see you die and set the monsters free. But that amount when she suffers the fatal blow begins to melt her. Before she fades into dust. In the genocide route, Frisk is filled with so much hatred and violence that they can deal enough damage to one-hit Undyne. In neutral/pacifist routes, Frisk lacks the violent intent to kill her instantly, because they're good/morally grey instead of evil.

this is honestly more evil than a full genocide. in genocide, even if you feel bad you're still relieved that you finally beat undyne. but here,,, ouch :(
Since Undyne did not save a life [monster kid] from the monster killing all monsters she was not able to "connect" with all of the other monsters as she says "all of our hearts beat as one" or something of the like so she did not turn into undying but rather her own determination melted her.
Theres a way to kill undyne without fighting: kill her of heat stroke by pouring all the water on the ground in front of her fish lady face, which locks you from pacifist, the perfect evil plan, it works.
Marco Valencia I love how she try to pull her determination shows she was willing to save everyone. I thought she’d actually become undying but no and that made me a little sad.🥺🥺🥺
To me that hints she was exposed to determination in Alphys's home or lab. Either by mistake, or perhaps some under the table experiment by alphys? Sneakily injecting her with some determination, thinking it will protect her/make her stronger.
@@desplaynam3 this is how spoilers, obviously attack Monster Kid. Undyne will jump in and block the attack, and get OHKO'd. well, not quite KO'd. that's where the Undyne battle starts - on the bridge, not the Undyne Arena.q
Undynes neutral death is obviously tragic, but we can't ignore how much more full the beginning feels because of her talk about papyrus. She's not just "the head of the royal guard who will kill any human because the barrier needs to be broken" It feels like a friend avenging someone who they know never deserved what came to them. No big crash of music, no story on the origins of the souls, just straight challenging her friends killer to their face.
I’ve actually never seen undyne’s death, I just knew she melted, but seeing this has made me admire and appreciate her WAY more as a character than I ever thought I would
It’s interesting that the action of sparing Monster Kid invalidates your genocide run because you always end up hitting Undyne instead of MK and never actually kill them. That means that genocide requires not only killing everyone, but being malicious in your actions even to those you know you can’t kill
If you spare papyrus the last of the game will be change to a neutral route, basically if you spare a boss or mini boss your genocide route will end, though the area you attempted to do genocide is still affected, but if you spared Sans he just kill and dunk you
@@lord_khufu well, yeah, but MK is different. No matter what you do, you can’t kill them. It makes sense that sparing Papyrus, for instance, would invalidate a genocide run. Since certain characters are aware of different timelines, and the player possibly having completed a genocide run before, thus having knowledge that the choice was irrelevant, I thought it was interesting that the act of sparing someone who you knew would never die anyway would force a neutral run
This scene really makes you think for a moment. Would you really fight a kid that helped you in a different route? Would you go lower than you already have just to continue an evil route? While Undyne does take the hit instead if you decide to FIGHT, I can imagine blind players thinking for a while. Honestly, I'm just glad that Monster Kid leaves unharmed either way, even if the world does get destroyed in the Genocide Ending.
Yeah. Maybe it fits well with her being The True Hero. In any other game you are "the hero" and if your main character dies the game is over so special attention is given. Another character that gets that kind of extra attention is Sans but you only fight him in Genocide route.
Undyne the Undying dies smiling, confident that Asgore can and _will_ kill you, saving not only the monsters, but everyone and everything from the demon that is Genocide Frisk. Regular Undyne dies trying in vain to cling to life, the same Determination that let her hold out that long also causing her magic-based body to melt and deform, before she finally dies and fades away into dust.
I don't exactly find the death unsettling, at least until the 'I won't die!' part where she's struggling to hold on to her determination. The first time I came across this battle, I was surprised at how sad it was after after she started dying, especially when orchestrated with 'Don't give up', I don't know, it just caught me off guard on how sad it was to see Undyne struggling to stay determined as I kept striking her down.
It's so interesting how much killing Papyrus changes Undyne's pre-fight dialogue. Normally, her anger towards the player is focused on her primary job, which is to protect monsters from humans. However, once Papyrus dies, she has a reason to hate you in particular: out of concern for the well-being of a friend. No longer is she ridiculing the idea of telling a well-known story in her world, rather she noticed the odd lack of Papyrus in one of the most underrated monologues in the game.
i think that's one of the saddest deaths in undertale bc after her health bar is all the way down and she continues attacking, u can see her slowly deteriorating in her attacks bc she gets slower and slower
Actually, technically, she did become an amalgamate. She jus died much earlier than the ones in the lab because she has a TON of determination, and her body couldn’t handle it. The ones in the lab were carefully injected with certain amounts of DT.
@@ShadowSkull1240 inb4 undyne is the first amalgamate to die does undyne count as one, though? she isn't fused with a monster yet, but she sure is melting down like one
@@ShadowSkull1240 the amalgamates would have died as well but they melted with themselves to have bodies strong enough to stand the determation they were inyected I mean look at endogeny it's at least 10 dogs in there Or snowdrakes mom ? She's 16 monsters fused into one Undyne had no one to melt with and well....You all Saw what happened
It’s been years yet I look back on the neutral route Undyne fight and am still saddened, she is determined to keep alive and defend her people, but as a result ends up killing herself as Monsters aren’t able to handle Determination
Yeah she is determined here too, this makes her live longer in return for basically melting, she just isn't as determined as in actual genocide where you don't spare mk
Isn't it weird that when you attack monster kid, Undyne is killed in one hit but if you spare monster kid, Undyne takes several hits despite having the same weapon, armour, LV, EXP, and base attack.
Basically that's a betrayal kill assuming that monster kid believed in you and he wanted u to spare him but u didnt and betrayal kills do extra dmg that's why
This reminds of the fight in dragon age in the elf orphanage one of the elves defending the place is a ghost and keeps yelling "I can't die I can never die" like they died fighting so determined they don't even know they died.
Y'all realize that this chick had so much determination in her naturally that when she was dying she was melting like the failed projects like that's some deep shit right there.
when her hp bar get to zero, and she dint died i was like "OMG HOW TO BEAT HER????" untill i realized no matter what u do in that moment (use spare, check or fight) she will slowly dying
After dying from Undyne in genocide for the past few weeks seeing the fight against normal Undyne in the neutral route and that I was struggling on it is just sad.
The fact that Undyne refuses to stop fighting until her body gives up is really sad (her attacks becoming less dangerous and hit for less damage makes me feel like the biggest jerk in the world).
It reminds me of the fight between Lee and Gaara, how even when he fell unconscious his body continued pushing forward on autopilot, because he was *that* determined to try and win.
Did you notice the final hit wasnt a slash but a foot print. Not only did you not kill her with a blade but you kick her while shes already at her lowest point. All it took to finish her was a kick.
I find it interesting how no one is talking about what happens at 5:37 I mean think about it, Undyne surely would have turned into her Undying forme at that part, right? But she doesn’t. Because you SPARE Monster Kid, she doesn’t turn into the Undying forme. Monster Kid was probably someone important to Undyne in a way. When you’re doing a Pacifist run, she gently sets down Monster Kid after accidentally picking him up; And, more importantly, she backs AWAY from him when he defends you. She WATCHES you attempt to murder someone. She’s never seen you kill anyone else, but at that moment when she sees you trying to kill Monster Kid THAT is why she turns into her Undying forme. She still has determination, but it doesn’t become nearly as strong without watching a friend nearly fall before her.
I mean yeah but I think it's more because u didn't kill her u now essentially just fucked the genocide and it reverts to neutral so thus u just do a normal fight with her like in the neutral route if u don't spare her
This just goes to show how much toby cared about this little game that he made SO MANY different dialogues depending on how YOU personally play, whether you spare that ONE monster on genocide, or kill only one monster, atleast SOMETHING changes. Thats how much toby fox cared.
@@selenium3447 well..no you have to do it in the ruins first killing the first froggit and each monster in next area right after toriel kill each you encounter in that exact room until your battle says..but nobody came but also make sure to save at the save point just incase yt videos also help i know this was year ago but still.
Joe6168 even if I started one I'd chicken out, successfully making the situation worse by making a a neutral I think undyne's fight is the main reason I can't do neutral either
The final hit being perfect in accuracy when defeating Undyne before she is weakened is incredibly poetic. A light of triumph in victory after a struggle against an armored fighter.
2018 and I’m still discovering new things about Undertale. Lots of weird stuff with Gaster, and his followers. So many hidden gems that you’d have to play hundreds of times in order to see.
Dark Pony263 that does happen that happened to me when I was fighting undyne the undyne true heroin when she had the giant heart on her chest aldo I didn't beat sans yet
I appreciate how in a pacifist route, when you encounter her at the mountain, she's all dramatic about saving monsterkind and how "ngaaaaaaa you're a human you must dieeeeee" But if you kill Papyrus, all the dramatics that make her such a fun character are lost. She looks at you and says "I know what you did, and I'm going to kill you for it."
Madame Jelly That actually got me super depressed when even the text in the box says "..." because goddamn you see someone giving it all to protect their whole world and they fail... God. Dammit.
You spared monster kid, therefore there is technically good in you. Therefore undyne wants to access her full power, but can’t because you aren’t evil, rather just “defending yourself”
So your saying.. If I delibiretly go out of my way to kill every monster in The ruins, waterfall, and snowdin as well as toriel and Papyrus... And just spare monster kid. I’m not doing genocide anymore I mean think about it Monster kid lives either way Spare him Attack him He still lives. So you should be able to turn it back into genocide after killing undyne ,besides You Erase the world at the end
YGuy1 but dude, monster kid doesn’t die, and either you save him. You spare him or you try to kill him Either, way Undyne saves him. So there’s no point...
@@vaasmontenegro2016 Sorry I played the game in all endings, and if you spare monster kid the ending go's to neutral. A true genocide run doesn't spare *anyone*
Dang, I’ve never actually seen the dialogue from Undyne after you spare monster kid instead of killing him.. In some ways I actually prefer it over the other scene of her sacrificing herself to save him. We get to see her stop and grieve over Papyrus, and she turns that into a greater motive to kill you. Not only that, she also brings up Sans not being around- which is a good reminder that something’s still going on with him, he hasn’t just disappeared after the death of his brother. Really cool stuff.

To me that hints she was exposed to determination in Alphys's home or lab. Either by mistake, or perhaps some under the table experiment by alphys? Sneakily injecting her with some determination, thinking it will protect her/make her stronger.

Undynes neutral death is obviously tragic, but we can't ignore how much more full the beginning feels because of her talk about papyrus. @@lord_khufu well, yeah, but MK is different. No matter what you do, you can’t kill them. It makes sense that sparing Papyrus, for instance, would invalidate a genocide run.
This truly shows how Undertale's lore is, as one soul could chance your path forever, giving mercy to a single child changed it.
In the neutral run, I feel as if her death is so much more creepy than the genocide. Anyone else find her death more unsettling?
I like this death better though-- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Undyne melts into something like an amalgamation and is basically denying her death. Undyne the undying accepts her death.

But you feel even worse when you took those candies

I mean think about it, Undyne surely would have turned into her Undying forme at that part, right?
I mean yeah but I think it's more because u didn't kill her u now essentially just fucked the genocide and it reverts to neutral so thus u just do a normal fight with her like in the neutral route if u don't spare her
She only becomes Undyne the Undying ONLY in genocide. Monster kid has nothing to do with that.
Or maybe it's because she has a reason to use her DETERMINATION in the genocide run
If you spare any character on genocide you abort it and so she wont become Undyne the Undying

I appreciate how in a pacifist route, when you encounter her at the mountain, she's all dramatic about saving monsterkind and how "ngaaaaaaa you're a human you must dieeeeee"
But if you kill Papyrus, all the dramatics that make her such a fun character are lost. She looks at you and says "I know what you did, and I'm going to kill you for it."
