Girl having wavy hair is a struggle because we are such inbetweeners. Sometimes our hair seems straight. Sometimes curly. For the longest time I thought I had straight hair and I’d tell people “it’s curly when it’s wet though”. Little did I know. I tried the curly girl method which worked for a bit but realised it was making me obsessed with having bouncier curls which made me hate my hair when it was completely natural with no products in. Now I’ve decided to embrace my wavy hair so my hair goals are more to do with growing out my hair, hydrating and getting rid of frizz rather than curl definition so I deep condition once a week and it’s actually helped so much. I think a lot of wavy haired girls need to hear this because we often either strive for that perfect curl or pin straight hair. Our waves are beautiful.

Samirah Aww tysm for this. I honestly hate my hair because it’s not perfectly straight with zero frizz. But there are no beautiful big bouncy curls either. Just a few waves here and there and so much frizz. And I feel like there really aren’t enough resources online for this hair type.

THIS. I've always either straightened my wavy hair or tried to maximize the curliness. But really, my hair looks the best when it's quite long and the waves get nice and loose and way less messy.

Mirana Noooo what? The opposite. If hair is low porosity coconut oil just sits there and doesn’t provide any benefit. If the hair is high porosity then coconut oil can at least go into the cuticle. Search up low porosity hair oils, coconut oil is rarely mentioned.

That you had said is my nightmare, to wake up one day without my curls, I have big long curls and I has been a lot of work since the adolescence because I like curls with almost no products in it and it was really dry and breaked, because my family has no curls and also the trend in that moment was to have straight or iron straighted hair. Also is a theme that the most of stylist do not have knownledge about kinds of curly hair and make dissasters with the haircuts. I hope everyone learn to know their hair and enjoy it, every different day.

I don’t understand this, so my hair seems extremely straight but it is dry but it’s also like really maluable so if I do ANYTHING with it it’ll just take that shape (brushing=straight, twisting=soft curls, scrunching=natural looking curls sorta) so like I can’t tell if you’re right and it curls because I have “dormant” curls or if it curls because it kind of just does whatever I want it to do usually anyways....

Some things that have helped me:
-I use a sulfate shampoo once a month to get out gel or any remaining gunk out of my hair.
-scrunching is okay as long as your hair is SOAKING WET. it's super important. If it is partially wet it will frizz.
-once I scrunch I use a spray bottle to rewet my hair and leave it alone.
    Xsome things you should try!X
-try not using gel. Just wash your hair and see what happens.
-try the opposite routine where you put conditioner first then shampoo it out. (Gentle) (this gives you more volume and helps hair not get overloaded.
-try a different shampoo and conditioner! Maybe these aren't the right ones for you. Shea moisture has amazing ones!

    • @vivian9432
      @vivian9432 4 года назад

if your hair is actually curly you dont need to use sulfate to get rid of gunk, or only scrunch when wet. people with actual curls need gel, they need conditioner second. Shea moisture will leave residue in your hair if you have STRAIGHT OR WAVY HAIR, it is meant for curly hair.

I hate when people get mad because other people say curls instead of waves
Ya its not completely accurate but wave IS a type of curl. People with coily hair dont get mad when someone says their hair is curly. I feel like people hate it because they hate hair that is a straighter texture because they've had a traumatizing experience straightening hair. No hair is special curly wavy coily dead straight they are all just hair and they are equally beautifull.

I think those people believe a curl *has* to be a spiral/corkscrew shape when a wave is indeed considered a type of curl as well. If you look up the definition of "curl" it literally means a *curved* or spiral shape, and a wave is curved hair. Hence why it's a type of curl.

Because it’s straight up not true. If your hair goes side side, even if it becomes a ringlet at the end, you have wavy hair. A curl is a ringlet. I don’t get why wavy haired people are desperate to call their hair curly.

In brazil a lot (most women) have curly hair, and our “curly girl method” (there are many methods of course) is usually using only leave in conditioner or mix ut with hair gel or jelly. We use a LOT of leave in on our hair, especially frizzy hair. The leave in (for me) works better than gel and mouse etc because it holds all the frizz and helps your curls. Our hair products are very very curly hair friendly and always help with the curl pattern. Maybe look up some brazilian hair leave in!

About the layered haircut, I had your same experience. I hated it because I was too lazy to style it correctly, but when I started having curls I asked my hairdresser what kind of haircut would be better and I did it (although I reeeeeally didn't want to, I hated it so bad lol).
The results were amazing! The thing is, the hair on top weights on the hair below (I don't know if I've explained well) and that's why the curls don't come out as bouncy as they would. Now my hair are soooo curly and I love them!💕

Thanks for sharing your journey, I'm a true curly girl myself but have been going in the opposite direction as you have, with my once thick, luxurious curls thinning considerably over the past couple of years and starting to become more wavy than ringlets, which has made me so sad. Also lots of breakage and frizz. I definitely understand feeling just defeated and miserable like you have, my hair used to be my pride and joy and the main thing that made me feel pretty, and now looking at it just makes me want to cry sometimes. I'm only turning 26 next month, it seems to maybe be due to several chronic conditions I have, but I'm hoping maybe something you have tried will help me! Lots of love and luck to you on your hair journey!

    hi!
Although I’ve always had straight hair I thought I’d give the curly girl method a go because I’ve seen a lot of videos “I didn’t know my hair was curly”. It obviously didn’t make my hair curly but it improved their health and now the look better than before. I think that most of the curly girl method can be applied to almost every type of hair; it’s just being more gentle with it. I don’t use any gel but I’ve kept drying my hair in a T-shirt and washing them upside down. I keep using a satin pillowcase and apply oil flipping my hair and scrunching it in.
I think hat your hair looks better than before you started the curly girl method and although your hair might not be curly a “simplified” curly girl method could be perfect for you.
Looking forward to follow your hair journey. 🌸

After my first day, I either “dry refresh” with a foam, or a smidge if Boucleme gel diluted with water and air dry for beachy waves. If you go for layers, ask the stylist to put “hidden layers” in your hair, and also to cut in a way that the layers will look good wavy or straight-if they don’t know how, go to someone else. Hope this helps!!

Also, this is why putting oil over the mask worked wonders for her! If you put only humectants on your hair, it may look dry/frizzy.

If you want to try this, apply a full plain yogurt, wear a cellophane cap, wait 30 to 1hour, and rince. Plain Yogurt is really good for dry hair like mine, it is full of water so the moisture is optimal. I highly recommend it for dry hair that barely support oil. I do believe there's not much to do to improved the already damaged hair. Take nails for example, if u wanna grow them long you need to keep them protected and everything. But once there's idk a choc, or little issues at the ends, all u can do is cut it or cover it up. That's how hair works. I have to take care of the neW growth In a consistent way. And make sure they come out healthy by taking care of anything that u lack From withing (protein, Iron and such). Then taking care of those healthy roots toll they all out and till the end. Lengths are as they are. There's no reconstructing or anything.

Your hair is looking beautiful tbh. I’ve always been thinking you haven’t used enough gel. Do you get a cast when it’s dry that you need to scrunch out? I have similar hair to yours and the cast is the key.
Also, I think you do have wavy hair but because it’s so dry the curls are falling out. I’d recommend trying Marc Daniels clear henna deep conditioner. I’ve seen so many people get absolutely amazing results after using it. It’s extremely moisturising.
The other product is orange marmalade gel (that’s a brand, don’t use what’s in your pantry). Or you could make your own flaxseed gel which is similar to orang marmalade. This product is actually so moisturising for me I need to use a protein leave in with it.
I think it’s probably time you try new products to see if you get better results. Good luck!

I totally relate and have had a really similar hair journey as you, with countless attempts to my dream hair. Since I had platinum blonde hair I’ve been on the journey to repair so that I can colour it without total damage. My hair is finally long AND full! I can definitely say that when your hair is healthy it will definitely become straight. Not only does healthy hair weigh more but less breakage means more hair weighing out curls. I know when I’m doing a good job at caring for my hair when holding the ends is full and even and no straggly bits. Also on the layers, I suggest not at the moment! Especially if healthy hair is the goal, layers can make it difficult to care for and also thinner and therefore more susceptible to damage. The only other thing besides a number of products I can tell you I swear by is sleeping with my hair in a single braid (it’s great you have a silk pillow case) but a firm braid will help reduce strain on individual strands while you sleep. I religiously braid my hair before bed! Hope any of this helps :)

So I’ve tried my own lil “curly” method that worked for my wavy hair and I love the results so far. Frizz is down and it’s less tangly! I stopped brushing my hair, I hand comb and wide tooth comb it in the shower while it’s conditioning. I scrunch curl defining cream into my hair while it’s damp. That’s it! I also put it in pig tails at night to avoid it tangling but I feel like I need a better method since it still manages to tangled a bit. My curls are slowly forming on their own over the last month, i forget the cream some days and my hairs still defined in curls. It’s more of a “just took out a French braid” curl pattern rather than beach waves, which I’m really happy about! Gel was a no for me personally I hated the way it made my waves look.

I can recommend to leave the mask for about 30min, then the oil for another 30min. It will let the moisturiser and oil do the job. you can also use other moisturises, like water with sugar, just aloe vera or bamboo gel, etc. can't wait for another video! XX

    1. Silke wraps and honey as a conditioner is a must.

    • @marevannierop

Silicones aren't that bad. They just form a layer on your hair, making it harder for moisture and other products to get absorbed in your hair. If you clarify enough (=washing with a strong shampoo), you're fine. It won't make your hair break off, lmao. 😂

@@marevannierop in a way your right, the silicones prevent moisture etc to get in your hair. And with a sulfate shampoo (it needs sulfates to get rid of silicones) u can get it away. BUT sulfates a really harsh and dehydrating. So after that u need to put way more good stuf in your hair. But when u use silicones after shampooing these wont get in the Hair due to the silicones. And this cycle is really really bad for your hair and makes your hair very brittly and can cause it to break.

I Know theres like thousands of comments here, but I recommend Watching, Manes By Mel (youtuber) she is a profesional stylist and actually teaches you everything u need to know about curly hair. She has taught me everything I know and she realllllly helped. Even if we dont have the same curl type.

I shaved most of my hair about 6 years ago. All the hair that was shaved has grown back to my natural hair curl pattern. Still working on the top 1/3rd of my hair. Ive been binge watching videos to find the best techniques and products. I love your curly journey. And yes layers are great for wavy/curly hair. ♡♡♡

Ooh wow im actually early!! 😁 i think your hair has been looking a lot better ever since you cut it shorter. It's jsut a lot thicker, shinier and just generally healthier looking. I personally think that the tiny waves here and there look really cute on you.
Also your tresses have really grown a lot! And they look quite a bit shinier
Edit: i suggest you do not get layers. I might be biased here because j just hate layered haircuts in general, but i personally think that your hair might be a lil too thin for layers to look "right" with it :( you could maybe get very long, angular layers that frame your face and maybe thin out the ends a little by adding even more long layers (if that eve makes any sense), but like... i dony really suggest getting an haircut that is layered all around. It would look rather messy 🙁
But of course this is just my opinion!! If you want layers go ahead and get them in any form you want!! Im pretty sure you could pull them off and they would add to your 90s persona a little bit 😁😁

I binged this journey like a netflix show and is one of my best pastimes during quarantine, I got sad, got mad as a fellow curly girl, got desperate, got hopeful and so many emotions. Also, I love seeing you falling in love and learning to love your hair.
A note: I remember not liking my curls because of how unpredictable they can be, they can flatten. dry out or frizz crazily, because so many factors, not only because I didn't take care of them. Eventually, you find a way that is not that consuming and that the "imperfections" are between healthy boundaries and I love it, even when it flattens out.

I found someone who has my weird wavy but not wavy hair. Please continue this series!
Also...I am sorry if this is a touchy subject, but noticed you are also missing your eye teeth...so am I. 😊 (I went through years of hating my smile). And you are gorgeous

I m a wavy girl too and there are some things that I’ve noticed differentiate us from curly haired people. We can’t use the same gels all the time (it really depends but this is my personal case) because it weighs my hair down. There’s a lot of wavy hair yters out there that understand that there’s a difference like suhanna Silva would really recommend her. I’m still working on my hair too but this is my personal opinion 😊

Just a tidbit of info for anyone reading, both aloe and honey are humectants, meaning they draw moisture from the air. If you live in a dry climate these ingredients may not work for you. So if you do try the mask and live in a dry climate, it's necessary to wet your hair first to help the aloe and honey along! 💜

I think you really should try:
    • sulfate and silicone free shampoo (clarify once a month)
    • deep conditioner every 2 weeks I would recommend for waves, every time you wash use a conditioner
those two should NOT have heavy ingredients in them (heavy butters/too many oils)
    • use a good mix of high and low protein products
    • once a month use a protein mask
•pixie diffuse for maximum curl (also do it upside down) after hover diffusion til about 50% dry
    ❤️
