    Thank you for this! :-) I'm going through my transition phase now and my hair is definitely in that weird, frizzy limbo...plus I have grays coming in so it's a mess. This gives me hope that "this too shall pass" lol and I appreciate all the great tips on how to handle those weird pieces that just don't want to cooperate! I have a job where I need to look nice and professional and I can't show up to work looking like a wild woman so this really helps - thank you!!! :-)

    Thank you for admitting to using the curling iron. It made me feel much better as that has been my go to when I really needed my hair to look good. I used to flat iron sometimes twice a day. I’m not going to feel guilty about occasionally curling a few strands. Thank you!

    I've been toying with the idea of trying out CGM for a long time now, and I decided this quarantine situation will be the best time to start, because I don't go out, my hair can be as frizzy and weird looking as it wants. And it sure is, as I have dyed and heat styled it countless times for the last 6-7 years, but with every wash I see a slight improvement, a little bit less frizz, a little more curl, and I just wanted to let you know, that your vids help me soooo much, thank you! I'm so excited for my curly hair journey and I can't wait to see what my hair will look like a year from now! ❤️

      Me too! It took forever to find her...I have this weird thin, curly, color treated hair. Lots of channels that focus on natural hair are geared for ethnic hair. I'm as pale as they come with dark natural curls that are thin! Lots of products are too heavy for my curls. I've been hearing use argan oil, the next time they say oil is the enemy. So confused.

    The "coiling" curls around your finger and pinning them with a bobby pin used to be called "pin curls" back in the early 1900s. They used bobby pins to form lovely "finger waves" around the face back in the 1920s, and did their whole heads in pin curls to simulate a perm. Your hair is really beautiful.

    My hair is not curly, it's like wavy and super frizzy but I have tight curls hiding under the rest of my hair. I have heard that I might have some type of curls/waves but not taking care of it properly has kind of taken them out. I have short hair bleach blonde, super damaged and I have been straightening it since middle school 😭 so it looks terrible without heat but I'm trying to stick to the curly girl method to grow out my hair and hopefully finding my hair type

    This is just what I needed! I'm two weeks into the Curly Girl Method and I too have pieces of hair that either won't curl or curl in a "strange" way. I've been tucking those pieces away with bobby pins, just so I don't have to keep looking at them. I plan to get my hair trimmed soon by a local curl specialist, because after a fall, winter and cold spring, all of the heat styling I was doing has really damaged by hair. Thank you Susie for being here for gals like me.

    Your hair is gorgeous. I am starting this week. I got a trim over the weekend. I decided to start with the Deva Curl products first because I felt so overwhelmed by the system and not knowing what's safe and what's not. I have thickish, frizzy waves. My hair gets really really big like it grows out before down. I've always hated my hair so I started flat ironing mine about a year or more ago. I color my hair every 5 weeks....and sadly I will not stop that my hair is completely silver I'm not ready for that yet. 😕 anyway thank you for these videos. I am going to give this a few months and see if I can have beautiful waves like so many of you have.

      You should see how beautiful silver curls are! I went grey some years back and have seen enormous strides in the health of my hair and I've also come to love it. I get more compliments on my grey than I ever got when I colored my hair. Once you go grey you'll wonder why in the world you waited so long. They say the hair gets big instead of long due to constant hair loss...mine did the same thing. I lost hair like a dog sheds. Since switching to all natural products I am losing NO hair. Nada. I've also been doing this a little over a month now and have seen an inch of growth to the length, which is unheard of for me...I usually just get top growth or get big hair, but never longer. I wish you well on your hair journey!!!

    • @prayerangel1
      @prayerangel1 6 лет назад +8

      There is a product, forget what it's called, where you can kind of paint your roots with a rinse instead of a full on coloring, to help you transition your grey. I tried it and it worked well. My hair had blonde highlights and layers, so that all helped also. You know, my boys didn't want me to stop coloring at first, said I was too young to let my hair go grey(42 at the time)but a few years later my middle son was sitting with me out in the sunny yard and looked over, said, "Mom, I'm glad you stopped coloring your hair now. That silver is really pretty in the sunshine." Could have knocked me over with a feather! Now I can't wait until it ALL goes silver.

    • @Veronica.Roni.V
      @Veronica.Roni.V 6 лет назад +6

      Mountain Woman I know it's beautiful. When I see other women with silver hair I always think wow that is pretty and different. I just have some block about taking the plunge. My hair started turning in my 30's and by 40 it was full blown lol. It sure would save me a lot of time and effort to just go for it. Time is precious and I spend too much time doing things to be the best me i can ....gets old I tell you!! My hair is black so the silver is extremely obvious but I will make a note of root stuff you are talking about. That would make it a little easier. Thanks so much 😊

      Curly Susie how much time? Lol! It's been 20 months. The very front is basically straight. My waves don't even start until 4-5 inches from my crown. Only the back starts at 1-2 inches down and is very wavy and curly. Honestly it's like I have 2 separate heads of hair. For me I think this is as good as it gets. The sides are getting curls, but like I said the top of my hair is straight. And it's what frustrates me the most. Because everyone I follow the waves and curls start at their crown and I love the volume they have. I appreciate your response and encouragement! 😘

      Ok, well if it’s been 20 months then maybe you have to make a decision. Do you want to leave it as is, or do you want to find a way to style the top layers to look more like the underside?? Hmmmmm it would be best if you could find something heatless. You could obviously use a wand, but then you are going to be doing heat damage over time. Let me scour Naturallycurly.com

    I can’t tell if my hair doesn’t like some of the CG approved products or if I’m transitioning...my curls get so tangly as they’re drying and it just gets worse on my 2nd and 3rd day hair. Not enough gel? Not enough conditioner? I have a mix of curls and waves, basically a bird’s nest! I do comb it in the shower already. Maybe it’s just super thirsty?

      Etta yes it does...it’s still a work in progress but I’ve found a little conditioner plus some water in a spray bottle helps me gain my curls back on the 2nd day, once your hair is pretty wet with the water and conditioner get some hair gel and scrunch it on in! 3rd and 4th day hair belongs in a bun...we don’t not speak of what treachery exists in my hair on those days

    I'm so excited I found your channel! My hair and I have had a complicated relationship my whole life, but not because I wanted it to be straight, I really wanted it to figure things out and be its curly/wavy self! I had a terrible experience a few years back trying the no-poo, baking soda/ACV method. I stuck it out for ten weeks while everyone online told me it would normalize and be amazing, but it never did, and I just couldn't deal with the disgusting heavy oily mess that my scalp and hair became. I'm not easily grossed out, but that experiment did it for me.
    I'm so worried trying low-poo or co-washing will turn out the same way, with my hair never adjusting and me just feeling grosser and grosser. I'm sure I just haven't figured out the right method for me, and I really want to steer away from products that strip my natural moisture and mimic real hair health, I just don't want to be a grease-ball for months. =( How long should I expect the adjustment to take?

    • @CurlySusie
      @CurlySusie  6 лет назад

      Hi!!! So , my hair is so so dry that I never had a greasy stage but my advice is instead of just co-washing... use a sulphate free shampoo that still lathers every 2nd to 3rd wash & then wean your self off.

      Davinia - First: what a Pretty name! Second: Hang in there! The trick is to find other things/styles you can do with your curly hair. There's lots of videos here on YT for ideas. Sadly I can only do one thing with my hair - I'm growing out an asymmetrical pixie cut! And I've worn it this way for Years! Talk about "transitioning", Oy! It'll probably take two years before it hits my collarbone. I don't think I'll ever let it get past that though. I Love it short, and easy, and it takes so little product, and not much time at all. But figuring out what to use - now there's the mystery, and the fun part! LOL! Best of luck to you!

    Help Susie!! My hair is nearly waist length. It is thin and fine. A side braid on me is the thickness of a regular pigtail on everyone else. It is grey and I have been coloring it Auburn/red for a Long time.I did my LAST coloring last night and am going grey after this (40th High School Class Reunion!!!) I was born with a natural "wave" in my hair. My grandmother had SUPER curly hair. I have not cut it since 2006 (except trims), I have NEVER used a curling iron, Never used a straightener, and have only used a blow dryer maybe seven times in my life. I take vitamins and eat cucumbers and all those things you are supposed to do for your hair. I have used Paul Mitchell Shampoo One, and The Conditioner (leave in) since 1987. I had ONE perm ever. My issue is this. I have always slept with my hair in a braid to protect it. I have YET on any of these videos seen a curly girl with hair as LONG as mine except one woman who had MUCH thicker hair than I do. HOW do you sleep when trying to do curly girl with LONG hair? If I put it in a Pineapple - the ends hanging out do get slept on and lose some of the curl. If I put it in a braid, I lose everything. I have mastered a pretty good looking wave thus far, that is a nice curl, but sleep on it ONCE and it's done for. I"m tempted to go back to brushing and braid because it does not come out knotted and dreaded in the morning. If I do curly girl and sleep on it, I have to do it all over the next day and the build up of conditioner from co washing comes on quick, so I am cleansing more often and spending a TON of time on my hair. HOW DO I SLEEP ON IT?????

      Victoria A Vargas hi! I know I’m not Susie but cutting off a couple of inches can really help lighten it up and make it feel thicker! I recommend using the Pacifica curls shampoo and conditioner which has worked really well for me and some light gel can help! I have a very similar hair type to yours and once I cut it it got much curlier! The herbal essence totally twisted gel is a great gel to use because it won’t weight the hair down too much. Hope this helps💗

I'm 31 now, Only just embracing my curly hair after years of torment over it. I'm loving it, I am plopping and it seems to work well but I do get greys, When I dye it black it doesn't last long (I'm naturally dark so black looks natural) but I don't want to keep dying over and over because I know the chemicals wont help my natural curl xx

    Add a couple of drops of peppermint and rosemary essential oils to your water and conditioner spray bottle. It feels cooling and invigorating on the scalp and it helps the hair grow fast from the scalp. For length retention I do a variation of the baggy method when I am going to bed at night. I recommend AG recoil hair activator and verb leave in mist conditioner. Also change your hair part regularly. I part on the left side then rotate to right side and the middle too. Get your hair cut from a curly hair specialist and your haircut is so important so splurge and remember you get what you pay for. If you are taking good care of your hair you should only need a haircut 3 times a year. Take food grade diatomaceous earth and vitamin D daily. My hair has grown so fast since adding these supplements. It must be FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth. It contains alot of silica which is crucial for hair skin and nails. Do invest in your hair use good products on your hair. No Pantene or suave

    So to recover the pieces that just wouldn’t curl right especially on a day 2 or 3 of no wash in the transition phase instead of using a curling iron I got some cheap curlformers from Walmart where I mildly dampen the section and leave it on while getting dressed. Revived curls for the day. Would require a little practice to use the curlformer as it can pull if not done properly. This btw never worked if I straightened my hair and tried to get it a bit curly with the curlformers but is a game changer for curly hair and no heat

    So, I have wavy hair. I do not use any sort of heat like air dryer, curlers, flat iron, etc. I also use non sulfate shampoos and don't use any sort of styling products. I wash it about every five days or so. I do braid it every night because if I don't, my partner puts an elbow down on it in the middle of the night and that's not my favorite way to wake up in a hurry. So it does have the braiding kinks in it, but sometimes I get the hint that it wants be curlier than it is and I feel like I'm still in transition, but I'm not sure about that one.

    I have a question. So I had really curly hair when I was younger but as I grew up it went straight. Now I have some curly baby hairs coming back. After research I believe the reason my hair went straight was because I wasn’t using right products and my hair was getting damaged. So I’ve started doing the curly girl method and after a shower my hair is pretty curly but for some reason as it dries it goes straight. Do you know why?

      I would suggest watching her complete hair routine. You need to use gel or mousse to hold it. ☺👍

      don't give up! my hair was just like that. Try Cantu curl activator, just a tiny bit, as a little goes a long way. Then use a gel to create a cast. This will train the hair to remember the wave pattern. I'm a few months into the curly girl method and i'm starting to have really nice results!
