I have all of the kindles except the Scribe and the Oasis is by far my favorite. I love the ergonomic design, the buttons; the lightness and the uniform lighting.
Is the difference that big between Paperwhite and Oasis when it comes to lighting? Don't they both feel like paper? I mean, it's the only one which has paper in its name 😅

Been searching for a side by side comparison of the screen lighting of the different Kindles! Thanks for this. I use an Oasis (and love it) but preparing for its eventual phase out. I hope I am wrong, but there hasn’t been any real news about it being upgraded. I’m partial to its asymmetrical shape and buttons… but if I have to choose another replacement, I’ll was hoping for a non-flush screen one like the Basic but the difference in the number of LEDs between the Oasis and the Basic will probably be too noticeable to me. But there’s something about a non-flush screen - I remember my first one, the Kindle Keyboard! Wonderful device :) completely sold me on ereading.
Ahhh, the Kindle Keyboard! Changed my life! Yes, I have those fears for the Oasis too, but I've had them for a while now. My thought is: Why haven't they phased it out yet? So I'm a bit hopeful they won't. Not sure what they're waiting on... Phase it out or update it. Just do something!!
@@onemanbookclub2585totally agree. I’ve been wanting to upgrade but at the moment I’ve got the 11th gen PW and some parts I feel like I’m downgrading eg micro-USB Vs micro-USBC
Dang. I was ready to buy an Oasis until you said it doesn’t use USBC. I don’t want to have to keep up with additional chargers. Thank you so much for this review!! 🤗
Nice to see someone speak to camera and not fill the video with jumpcuts! Bravo sir! I dont need the amount of eink ereaders that i have but im hooked on the various types and models both from Kobo and Amazon. I have a Kobo Libra 2, Kindle Basic, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Scribe. Correction note: Scribe is not waterproof
My experience is similar to yours but I’m more than ten years late😂 After reading four volumes of In Search of Lost Time on my iPhone I finally got a Kindle Paperwhite last week and couldn’t believe how amazing it felt to read on it. Now I can never go back to reading on my phone. Call me weird but I actually love that ads show up when the screen is turned off. It leaves me in awe of this technology.
Lining every wall with bookshelves is a current ongoing discussion between my wife and I. Most of my books have been moved into my office with some current books next to my bed.....
Awesome video you are awesome sir. Im a nubie to Kindle. Plus i have an Apple IPad 12.9. But for the past 3 days i couldnt buy on amazon the kindle paperwhite 32 gb…..it would not go into my cart it would go straight to my buy later section of my amazon app. And im a prime member, my son seems to think because it’s out of stock???? Im going to call customer service.. you ever have this issue with not going into the cart? I appreciate you thank you so much for this video. ❤😊
The single best thing I have bought for my 2018 paperwhite is a tablet holder that grabs the headboard. I fall asleep reading, my Kindle goes to sleep, and it's right where I left it in the morning. No kindle falling on my face when I fall asleep, I don't even have to hold it. I just bump the right side of the screen with a finger, or honestly sometimes my nose lol
I have 2mm crack on my 2016 Paperwhite screen due to dropping an eye glasses case about a foot above the Kindle. It doesn't have the flush glass screen over the eINK display. When this happened the Kindle was in a neoprene case. For the basic Kindle I'd suggest a hard cover. For your Oasis cover I'd check the Dollar Tree for a thin cutting film you could cut to size to fit in what looks like an outer pocket. If the Oasis display is facing the plastic sheet but not in contact with it in the outer pocket you might have more protection if something like keys or a cell phone was dropped on the display.
Ooo that stinks! I've never felt the need for screen protectors... In 12 years of owning them I've never had a problem. But now that I said that I'm probably going to break it today! 😂
@@onemanbookclub2585 Outside of the eINK crack I don't have a single mark on this old device. Any Kindle, like your Oasis with the flush glass screen, may be less apt to break knock on wood.
I know I want the Paperwhite, but I’m always confused about the gigs! Thanks so much explaining that the 8 is enough. Really appreciate your thorough video and looking forward to owning my first Kindle.
I had a KOBO reader way back in the early 2009 era but ended up just using my phone or a tablet after, well fast forward and my eyesight is worsened and migraines plague me if i read this way so i was on the hunt for a kindle that read like a real book since the kindle books are WAY cheaper than in your hand printed seem to be. This video helped me decide ❤ thank you! It will be here tomorrow with a cute little case too. I went with the 11th gen 2022 6 inch model btw. Both for the price and features it had, and the fact it would fit in my purse easily.
At spot 27:40, for example: Is it just me, or are you noticing the Kindle base model and Kindle Oasis as having a whiter, less yellowy, background? Any insights? I've seen mentions of "cool" light and "warm light" for some model e-readers, but I never paid much attention until now. Maybe there's an adjustment setting, anyways?
You are seeing the auto adjusting warm light adjusting at different speeds. The base model doesn't adjust at all, so reading in the dark can be a bit more harsh because the light stays cool.
@@onemanbookclub2585 Interesting. Thanks. I've always liked my Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight's white lighting; maybe it didn't auto-adjust to the warmer yellowy look you're teaching me about. I’m reading now that some of the Kindle models let you manually adjust the warm vs cool lighting…fabulous.
My first kindle was also the keyboard model in 2010, and suddenly in 2017 it stopped charging and I was heartbroken. I loved my keyboard but started looking at the newer options and settled on the Oasis, mainly for the page turning buttons. I’m happy with it but really miss the ease of the keyboard model. Great reviews. Btw, I still have my keyboard hoping for a miracle resuscitation someday.
I've been hearing that it's possible to replace the battery in the Kindle Keyboard. I've been wanting to learn how to do it and make a video about it. Stay tuned!
@@onemanbookclub2585 I did it! I ordered the battery from Amazon and it’s now charged up! The hardest part was getting the back off, I ordered the battery that comes with the tool and I also used a guitar pick to help it along.
Really good comparison, thank you. I've had the first version of the paperwhite since it first came out. It's finally having issues holding a charge so I'm looking at a new one. Appreciate the detailed look at them.
@14:43 - Two points. 1) At some point we have to assume that either Amazon or Kindle will go away. Having you entire Kindle downloaded onto an offline device could be a good thing. 2) I assume by Audio Book you are just referring to Audible. Not having a Kindle, I am assuming that your phone/watch Audible App will be more convenient. You are probably going to be carrying you phone anyway and a Kindle would be big for something I am not using to read...
The Oasis cellular is not currently available on Amazon, except as a used item. The 32 Gig version has not been available on Amazon for some time. The 8 Gig model is still available, but I wouldn't buy it at $250. I assume that the Oasis is dead.
Yep, Oasis with Cellular is dead. The only thing I can't figure out is if they're going to sunset the Oasis, why haven't they yet? We've been saying it's dead for years now, yet they continue to manufacture it. It would be great to see some movement though. Update it or introduce a new model...something!
@@onemanbookclub2585 Neither did my Kindle Voyage. You have to open it up to replace the “non-replaceable” battery. It’s been a while and I don’t remember the exact process, but it can be done.
I’m thinking about buying a kindle so I have an easy way to read books when I am in bed with a newborn. I’m trying to decide between the Paperwhite and Oasis. Which is best for one-handed use? I’m thinking having the page turn buttons would be easier than having to move my hand from left to right to turn pages, but how frequently will I actually be turning backwards? Any commenters have an opinion on which device is best for nursing mothers? Also, how is the screen responsiveness? All of them look pretty laggy in all the videos I watched. Any first hand accounts to share?
I think the creator mentioned in the comments that the Oasis is unavailable right now and hadn't been updated for a while. If I were you I'd want the most lightweight wch is the basic. Or Paperwhite if you don't mind a holding something bit heavier but with a much brighter screen. If you've been used to the 120hz scrolling or promotion, Kindles would seem laggy, but I don't mind especially as it doesn't tire my eyes as much and I can control font size. You don't need to swipe with the basic Kindle, just tap a bit to the right going forward, or a bit to the left going backwards. I have an old 2011 basic model though, but I doubt they would regress the functions with the newer ones. So I mean you can read with 1 hand on even the basic or Paperwhite even without buttons.
@ongjanette is right, sadly. The Oasis is no longer available, although there have been referbs available on Amazon occasionally. If you can get your hands on an Oasis, I recommend the Paperwhite!
Great to meet a fellow Oasis fan! The Scribe is very good, particularly for it's notebook functionality. I wouldn't like it as a dedicated eReader though, it's too heavy for how I would read on it.
Great review, Tks so much…my husband has Amazon prime, can I sign in using his account to read books on my own kindle. Or do I have to have my own Amazon prime account? Same household…
Great video! In the market for a Kindle cause I too don’t have the space for bookshelves anymore lol. Did the Kindle Oasis get discontinued? Can’t find it on Amazon through the link.😭
Sadly, yes. If you can, I'd hold off just a few more weeks as Amazon seems rl be on the verge of making some new Kindle announcements. If you don't want to wait, the Paperwhite will be your best bet.
Great video! I am definitely the guy with 3 Kindles because I love them all. The only correction I would suggest is that the Kindle Scribe is not waterproof.
One thing that i didnt see mentioned was Night mode options. The Paperwhite seemed warmer then all of them while Basic seemed more white. Do they have all have options to warm up the screen at night or just dimming options?
I have a KO3 and I just semi-replaced it with the 2022 basic model. I’ve always wanted the smaller form factor, and now it has 300 dpi as well. Hopefully they give it water resistance and warm time within a couple of decades😂
I’m really interested in purchasing a Kindle.. I’ve been using my IPad as a reader.. but it hasn’t been the best for my eyes and showing me the differences has been a great help. Thanks.
Thank you for your Kindle descriptions. You mentioned that your kindle one with buttons was no longer chargeable. I have this model and found it easy to put a new battery into it.
Hey thank you for the videos. You can change the battery on your old kindle. I have one from that year, and was still able to purchase the battery last year. It's real easy to do, you can RUclips it. I still have my white kindle from. 2008, I'll never get rid of it. :)
This is a super helpful video that answered any questions I had about what are the differences between different kindles and which is the best choice for me. Thank you!
Maybe it's because I grew up as a kid with digital devices like iPhone/iPad but the Kindle Paperwhite makes reading so much easier for me and feels more natural than a real paper book. I like both but find myself having to reread the same sentences to comprehend with a physical book as where that doesn't happen on my kindle. Was born in late 90's maybe I'm messed up in the head. Kindle solved my reading problems though + ability to hold down on words I don't know for quick dictionary meanings.
Currently reading the original 'Dracula' book from Bram Stoker. A great book, but one I'd never be able to get through physically with all the old timey words Kindle dictionary helps provide context to.
The Paperwhite does not have any pencil capabilities. Only the Kindle Scribe does this. You can use 3rd party tools on it as long as they are EMR compatible.
I don’t know if Amazon did the same everywhere but in Germany they discontinued the 8gb version of the Paperwhite. It starts with 16 for the price of the 8gb.
I have a question, if I may. I get migraines from reading on backlit devices like phones and tablets. Will I have the same problem with the Paperwhite and its light?
The front lit Kindle feels like reading from a printed book. I'm not a doctor, I imagine reading on an ereader would solve that problem for you! Anyone else?
@@onemanbookclub2585 okay. Thank you. I love reading traditional books but like the flexibility of an e reader. Thank you again for your response and thank you for the video 😊
Watching this because it’s finally time to buy a new kindle. My kindle 4 finally stopped working, does not turn on anymore 😢. Can’t decide what to get this time.
Thank you! Just got to the part of the video where you were talking about the Oasis and wished they were still selling it as that would have been the one to get. Thanks for the recommendation!
I would say yes, but very sadly, Amazon had discontinued the Oasis last month! I say go with the Paperwhite now, but if you can wait until next year, I hear there may be a color Kindle coming out, which might be really cool!
Thank you for this comparison! I love my Oasis, but it’s too heavy for me after about 30m. I was hoping the newer Paperwhite was lighter, since it now has warm tinting. I guess that warm light apparatus just makes everything heavier.
lm tempting to get the scribe. I got the paperwhite edition, but found that its too small, and Im not really enjoying the reading experience. Not sure if I should just stick with my ipad Pro... I can always switch off the brightness on my ipad so that it doesnt hurt my eyes... what I really like to see with the Kindle device is some colours. Even just blue, red and yellow color would help tremendously.
If size is the thing, the Scribe would certainly help there. Hold an 8.5 in x 11 in pad of paper in your hand--that's about how big it is. But the trade off is the weight. To me, it's a bit too heavy to feel comfortable as my primary reading device. IMO its note taking features are what makes it a winner. You might see if you can find an outlet near you that has a Kindle Oasis you can demo. Oddly enough, the more square (and slightly larger) screen make a significant difference in the reading experience vs the Paperwhite. It may just be enough bigger for you. Good luck!
Great video! Quick question. I currently read off the app on my phone and sometimes simultaneously listen with audible as well, especially when I’m reading books with a lot foreign names. Do these kindles use audible or is it some other audio app? I don’t want to lose all my audio books.

8 mb It will be.
Good luck!
This helped me decide! thank you
You're welcome! I'm glad!
This helped make my decision. I watched 5 reviews before yours and gained no confidence in which one to choose. By the end of your review I ordered the best one for my needs. Thanks
Which was it
Glad I could help!
I have all of the kindles except the Scribe and the Oasis is by far my favorite. I love the ergonomic design, the buttons; the lightness and the uniform lighting.
Alright! Another Oasis fan! ✊🏻
I also splurged on the Oasis and the only thing I don't like about it is that it's micro-USB. Other than that everything about it is perfect.
I do wish they'd update it!
Is the difference that big between Paperwhite and Oasis when it comes to lighting? Don't they both feel like paper? I mean, it's the only one which has paper in its name 😅
I can tell a difference, but it's also slight. You'll be happy with either one! The big difference is in the form. The oasis is so nice to hold!
You sir are amazing! Answered all or my questions in one amazingly laid out video.
Wonderful! I'm so glad it was helpful!
I never leave comments or reviews, but this video was so so helpful and I needed to let you know. Way more thorough than any other video.
I've been wanting to read more and thought a Kindle purchase would be a great catalyst. After watching your video, I think I'm going to go with the Paperwhite 8g no ads. Thank you!
I'm so glad it was helpful! When you buy, use my associate link and I'll earn a tiny commission from Amazon that I use to keep the Book Club running! Thank you!

i watched this whole video and i loved it! my first and only kindle related video 😭 very informative and to the point without missing any! i have made a decision thanks to you🎉
Yay! I'm so glad!
It's really the only down side, and I REALLY wish they'd update it! But if it's a deal breaker, to with the Paperwhite. You won't be disappointed!
Between the paperwhite and the oasis, which has the warmer light? I heard the paperwhite has the warmer light.
My experience is that they aren't that different. But it's actually moot if you're shopping...the Oasis isn't for sale anymore!
How do you like the Kobo vs Kindle? I've never used one. And yes, I was wrong when I said the scribe was waterproof! It is not!
Awesome! (And yes, you're weird! 😆)
I was buying one of these as a Christmas present your presentation was spot-on and excellent 👌 thanks a lot you really helped me make my decision.
I'm so glad!
Lining every wall with bookshelves is a current ongoing discussion between my wife and I. Most of my books have been moved into my office with some current books next to my bed.....
Chose your fate wisely, my friend! 😆
This is the video that helped me decide!! The GB info was super helpful.
I'm so glad!
Thank you! It's possible. You might consider purchasing one with less memory. IMO 32GB is overkill for an ereader.
@@onemanbookclub2585 ok will do. Maybe the 16gb than … thank you
Thanks for letting us know about the GB that we dont need more than the minimum.
You're welcome!
This was sooooo super helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome!!
That sounds awesome!
Such an informative video, exactly what I was looking for. And your insights are much appreciated! This is going to change my reading game
It absolutely will! Best of luck!
🤞🏻
I know I want the Paperwhite, but I’m always confused about the gigs! Thanks so much explaining that the 8 is enough. Really appreciate your thorough video and looking forward to owning my first Kindle.
Awesome! Good luck!
Great video! Right now I have a kobo but I’m really thinking about making the switch to a kindle. This has been really helpful
Awesome! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Wonderful! I'm so glad you found one that will work for you! Best of luck and happy reading!
@onemanbookclub2585 it's been fantastic so far I've finished 2 books and no headaches!
Thank you. Never had one and was looking into buying one. Not sure yet. Going to go back over this video again but well explained.
Good luck!
Great video. Have you tried kobo at all? I’d be pretty interested in seeing your take on the Libra Colour.
I haven't!
Really good comparison, thank you. I've had the first version of the paperwhite since it first came out. It's finally having issues holding a charge so I'm looking at a new one. Appreciate the detailed look at them.
You're welcome! Good luck!
Thank you so much. You just help me decide that I’m getting the kids paperwhite.
Wonderful! I'm so glad!
Thinking about replacing my kobo with a kindle. Very helpful video ❤
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck!
Thank you so much for this comparison…it has been VERY helpful!!
You're welcome!
@14:43 - Two points.
All good points!
I replaced the battery in an old Kindle and got some more use from it. You could try that on your Kindle Keyboard.
It doesn't have a replaceable battery! 😢
@@onemanbookclub2585 Neither did my Kindle Voyage. You have to open it up to replace the “non-replaceable” battery. It’s been a while and I don’t remember the exact process, but it can be done.
@@onemanbookclub2585anything has a replaceable battery with some tools
You are a legend!!! Thank you for this really helped me decide. Your amazing.
Awesome! You're so welcome!
is the oasis screen the same as paperwhite and scribe? in the video it looks different.
It's the same, just more led lights. And much bigger, of course.
Getting my kindle paperwhite on Tuesday so excited! I have an iPad but I want a dedicated reading device. Thank you!
Awesome! You're welcome!
I just placed an order for oasis after using basic kindle which came without any backlight for ten years.
Congratulations! You're going to love it!
I have been team Oasis and love the device. The scibe does interest me, though i think it's due to it's size.
You absolutely can!
Great video….i opted for the signature edition only because I also have a library of audio books.
Awesome!
Thank you for the comprehensive review!!!
You're welcome!
Great video! I am definitely the guy with 3 Kindles because I love them all.
The only correction I would suggest is that the Kindle Scribe is not waterproof.
Yep, I misspoke on that!
One thing that i didnt see mentioned was Night mode options. The Paperwhite seemed warmer then all of them while Basic seemed more white. Do they have all have options to warm up the screen at night or just dimming options?
The basic does not have an adjustable warm light, but the other models do.
So kindles have audio?? I always thought they were specifically for ebook not audiobooks!
They don't have their own speakers, but they do connect to one via Bluetooth.
I have a KO3 and I just semi-replaced it with the 2022 basic model. I’ve always wanted the smaller form factor, and now it has 300 dpi as well. Hopefully they give it water resistance and warm time within a couple of decades😂
😆
I’m really interested in purchasing a Kindle.. I’ve been using my IPad as a reader.. but it hasn’t been the best for my eyes and showing me the differences has been a great help. Thanks.
Good luck!
Great information! You helped me make my choice.
Wonderful, I'm so glad!
Was looking for video like this, you did a great job!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for your Kindle descriptions. You mentioned that your kindle one with buttons was no longer chargeable. I have this model and found it easy to put a new battery into it.
I'm going to look into that!
Hey thank you for the videos. You can change the battery on your old kindle. I have one from that year, and was still able to purchase the battery last year. It's real easy to do, you can RUclips it. I still have my white kindle from. 2008, I'll never get rid of it. :)
Wow, cool! I never owned one of those!
This is a super helpful video that answered any questions I had about what are the differences between different kindles and which is the best choice for me. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Oasis is not currently available in New condition in the U.S., and there is no info on release per Amazon
Correct. It appears It has been discontinued 😔
@@onemanbookclub2585 Begs the question: Why?
You've explained the benefits well!
I have oasis and love it . I hope they upgrade it at some point
So do I!
Great video! What gen is your paperwhite?,🤔🤔
Thank you! It's the most recent whatever that is.
Do all of these reduce eyestrain compared to phones. Or just the Oasis and Scribe
All of them do equally!
Hello, can I use third party pencil with kindly paperwhite?
The Paperwhite does not have any pencil capabilities. Only the Kindle Scribe does this. You can use 3rd party tools on it as long as they are EMR compatible.
I don’t know if Amazon did the same everywhere but in Germany they discontinued the 8gb version of the Paperwhite. It starts with 16 for the price of the 8gb.
Good to know, thank you!
Thank you for this video. I'm researching which one to buy my mom for her birthday, and your video is, by far, the most helpful.
I'm so glad! Best of luck!
Thank you! Super useful video for a Kindle beginner.
Glad it was helpful!
I recommend the Paperwhite as Amazon has discontinued the Oasis. Good luck!
Thank you! Just got to the part of the video where you were talking about the Oasis and wished they were still selling it as that would have been the one to get. Thanks for the recommendation!
Do you still get ads when you have the system in Airplane mode?
Yep! It'll just cycle through the same ones until you reconnect.
@@onemanbookclub2585 thanks! Looks like I'll have to pay that extra 20!
If the price point was similar, which one would you buy in 2024? paperwhite or oasis?
If I could find a referb Oasis, I'd probably get that for myself. But if not, the Paperwhite is very, very good. I just prefer the physical buttons.
@@onemanbookclub2585 thank you.
Thank you so much for this in-depth review and analysis! Very helpful for my upcoming Kindle purchase :)
You're welcome! I hope you'll use my link!
I have the 6’ kindle and wonder if it’s worth upgrading to the oasis? I like that it has buttons to turn the page
I would say yes, but very sadly, Amazon had discontinued the Oasis last month! I say go with the Paperwhite now, but if you can wait until next year, I hear there may be a color Kindle coming out, which might be really cool!
The 10th gen was the last oasis? Getting it secondhand is an option but does it look dramatically better than the paperwhite?
You'll be happy with the Paperwhite. I'd be hesitant to buy one used.
Thank you for this comparison!
I love my Oasis, but it’s too heavy for me after about 30m. I was hoping the newer Paperwhite was lighter, since it now has warm tinting. I guess that warm light apparatus just makes everything heavier.
Not lighter, unfortunately. But all kindles are lighter than printed books!
Thank you! You have helped me make my decision! I will be buying the Oaisis🎉
If you're in the US you unfortunately won't be able to. Amazon has discontinued the model, hopefully in favor of something awesome in 2025. 😔
lm tempting to get the scribe.
Good luck!
I like to read with a black background and white text. Which one of these devices can do that?
They all have this feature!
All of them
cool thanks! scribe was on sale for 230 on amazon.
Ooo, great deal!
Great video! Quick question. I currently read off the app on my phone and sometimes simultaneously listen with audible as well, especially when I’m reading books with a lot foreign names. Do these kindles use audible or is it some other audio app? I don’t want to lose all my audio books.
It's Audible! Amazon owns Audible, so all your Audible Audiobooks will be available on your Kindle!
