trust me, in Australia, Spider bites is not nearly as rare as lightning. I been here for for less than 2 decades and i got bit 3 times. and i live fairly close to the city.

Red Back spiders like dry hot places (they're like black widows only smaller, more venomous and with the stripe on the back). Outdoor toilets are an ideal environment for them - it's a common enough event there's a song about it. And this year has been ideal conditions for red backs.
