- While the Star Fox series doesn't appear very often, when they do, you're in for a treat. With the release of Star Fox Zero coming sooner and sooner, I can't help but get excited! After playing the game at E3 and uploading footage of it here, I was told by a number of people that the new Walker mode was taken directly from Star Fox 2. And after a request from NF Magazine and a lot of research, I present to you the complete history of Star Fox 2!
Enjoy!
Check out the NF Magazine shop (look for issue 18 soon! That's the one I'm in):

It's happening everyone. It's really happening. Star Fox 2 is getting an official release on the SNES Classic Edition!!
Beta64 That's why I searched this game I never heard of it
family gyamfi i came back to this video because of it
Superstephanomario SSM Same here
family gyamfi thats the only reason i want the mini because i already have a snes and some games for it
Superstephanomario SSM cool, I hope this one doesn't sell out that fast or get discontinued like the NES classic
"maybe in the future? I don't know? crazier things have happen."
THIS IS THE FUTURE YOU SPEAK OF, ARE YOU A TIME TRAVELER?
Yes.
Maybe?
Snes online moment
if he time traveled he would know
@@lordsupersucc you mean snes classic
Is this the longest delayed game ever? (Planned: 1995, Actual: 2017)
Underdog Half-Life 3? Kappa
No because it was cancelled for star fox 64 as the N64 was coming up, so around 1995-1997, until the people at Nintendo decided to finally complete it for a plug and play. HECK YOU CAN PLAY IT WITHOUT THE CONSOLE. A final build was found (but with bugs). And you can play it.
made: 1995
released: 2017
it was not delayed, they just wanted a new Starfox on the N64 but they couldn't just dump SF2 because of how complete it was... I don't know, my knowledge of Starfox is very small
Nope its Mario 128 (1998 to ????) Still not released.
@@UltimateWahee Isn't Mario 128 Pikmin though?
it truly isn't fair to all the people who worked hard on the game and then just have it get canned... Nintendo should release this on VC
Yeah its a shame this game was canned for the simple fact that the Nintendo 64 was around the corner
+Nessie The Lochness Monster only nintendo would pull some shit like that
+mariomadproductions what about facepalm.png?
It should be included with SF0.
+Devon Jones (Aerospherology) like an unnlockable, you say? that would be awesome!
This video is gonna need an update! Now we have the final game, and two more alpha Roma! COME ON BETA 64! WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!
I had a very similar experience. For years as a kid before i ever had the money to buy my own subscription I would run to the library and snag the newest issue to see all the crazy stuff nintendo was doing. As a very impressionable child i kept on getting fooled every april 1st when NP announced there new plans, like build a real warp pipe system all over america called Project M. Or how they convinced me Luigi was unlockable in Mario 64. If i had to pick the most nostalgic experience it would be those days at the library.
Don't worry you're not the only one, I basically stole scrap NP magazines from my art class, and I distinctly remember being so damn excited for Project M until I realized it was a joke.
Luigi was found in the game files lol
9:43 kinda looks like a perfectly cut moment and I cannot stop laughing at it
When I first saw Beta64 as a channel, this is the beta that came to mind. Leaked to the public as a playable rom-dump and practically the entire unreleased game, there's really a lot here that qualifies it as the quintessential beta to me. Thanks for finally covering it!
So it's actually coming out on September 29th on the SNES Classic Edition. Literally speechless right now.
now we can technically say that SF2 has been officially released
I'm here from DidYouKnowGaming to say that I love your voice, and you have a new subscriber!
+Animax Thank you so much! :)
same here, this is a good channel!
I don't know your voice, but people might like it
same, and might i ad you are so lucky to be on that show!
I've been here for a while, welcome new faces!
This channel is one of my favorites and even though its not a huge channel I still think this channel is one of the best. I have been on this channel since the beta of sm64 and when I watched a couple more beta videos I thought this channel will be my favorite. keep up the good work beta64 I like your videos!
+Lenny Barks :) Thank you.
+Beta64 you can play it
yeah i have a rom for it for my snes emulator. lol
4 years after this game has finally released. Just amazing how a game can go so far after so many years.
Wow! What a success to be interviewed by a magazine! I 've been watching your videos since, I believe "A Hat in Time" and dang. The channel has grown a bunch! Hope that it grows bigger and successful!
+JekrixLokan Thanks for watching for so long! :)
+JekrixLokan I joined around A Hat in Time too!
+Beta64 Yer tha best, Rocky-64
+VoilaTada I joined during SM64

Nintendo should resurrect this game for the Switch. The potential is unimaginable.
*UPDATE*: Never mind. It's already coming out on the SNES Classic.
Sure you did🙄
Sadly, we're only getting NES games for the Switch via Nintendo Switch Online.
Its now coming on nso
Mr. Cheese it’s out
@@cb2327 yep it is
Just discovered this channel via Did you know gaming. Really thankful I did. How can I have never heard of this channel! Hearing the history of a game's development is sometimes way more interesting than the game itself
Nintendo has pulled lots of strings with the new Virtual Console. While it still has a pretty bad library in terms of what it offers, they have somehow managed to jump some hurdles that we never anticipated they would even get to at all.
- Actually released Duck Hunt again for the first time in years to be played in an awesome new way.
- Put Donkey Kong 64 onto the store, something that nobody ever thought would show.
- Translated Mother, a game that everyone thought would never be in English.
Maybe the Wii U will go out with a bang and give us Star Fox 2.
Highly unlikely.
+Medachod Funnily enough, Mother 1 was already translated into english way back in the NES days. They just didn't bother to release it and canceled the US and PAL versions of the game shortly after it was translated.
+Medachod I'm gonna be positive too, I think this has a okay good chance to make it Virtual Console some day, as Beta64 said the game apparently already has final build!
***** And it would only make sense to put it on there by this point.
the SNES Classic has build 5 of Star Fox 2!!
well, I saw you on DYKG, and I gotta say, you really got me interested. Something about game development just screams 'AWESOME' to me! +1 sub!
This 'goat character' is just Fay at a different angle..
Thank you so much for the video. I saw you on DidYouKnowGaming as well and came over here to check this out. I've always been a huge Star Fox fan but the franchise sleeps so long that I often forget about it. It's a bit sad this game never made it to us and that it was completed. I can only imagine how the developers felt when they found out their hard work would never be played by their fans. Hopefully you're onto something and Nintendo will one day allow this game to be released on Virtual Console. You've also re-invigorated me for Star Fox Zero, a game which was falling on my "Must Buy" list.
For one RUclipsr to another (Im only in my infancy!) this channel is excellent! The content is awesome! Brings back some great memories, especially the end of this video, all the talk on magazines! takes me back 20 years, Nintendo Power was a thing of dreams for us UK'ers! **Well done!**
sent here by the NF kickstarter update and loved this stuff, will definitely check out the rest of your library.
+Huey Lewis Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the other videos! :)
+Beta64 Hey why didn't we think Donkey Kong 64 would be released on the Virtual Console? I get the Earthbound beginnings one but, why not Donkey Kong 64?
+Robert Howtryer Rare belonging to Microsoft, I think that's mostly why people didn't think we would get the game. Cause the property, despite Donkey kong belonging to Nintendo. The game itself was made by Rare, thus Rare is owned by Microsoft XD so in a sense...the licensing to the rights of it was probably confusing for players...that or they just had a hard time porting Donkey Kong 64 onto the original Wii and thought it wouldn't be possible for the WiiU.
Megamanexe still don't get how people make that misconception.
Twilight Princess Beta64
that would be cool to see
Great video, Beta64! It's good to get all of the known facts that we have right now in one video. The history of Star Fox 2 has always intrigued me for several years now. I really hope Nintendo releases Star Fox 2 on VC at some point. I'm beyond curious as to what's in the ACTUAL final build of the game. Huge shame this game never officially released!
HOLY CRAP
This video.
All my yes.
Everything you said, I agree with.
Holy crap.
This game looks really fun. I wish it would have released. Thanks again for Beta64 for telling us what could have been.
Theres lots of roms of the game on internet xD you can play it
Wait, since the game never released, I guess it's not stealing profit, so it's not illegal! I have actually beat this game already, but still wanted to comment.
It's already released on SNES Classic. (If you don't know)
@@almahbuby this comment was made 3 years BEFORE the SNES Classic.
Actually, It's kinda normal that it didn't came out ; Like you said, they want to make a clear differences between Snes 3d and 64 3d, and as you said, the Nintendo 64 was planned to come out earlier. It's important to make a clear difference, look at the Wii u, nobody bought it because Everyone got a Wii, who would buy a Wii u D: ? Same story here...
Always stumble upon your videos somehow... Finally subscribed and watch some of your older videos. Real great channel.
hi. I'm here from the DYKG vid on NSMB for the DS. I'm also new to this channel...and when I saw the intro and got all quiet and Mario peeked out of the corner and said "yohoo!" I laughted so loud for some reason lol Mario is so cute When he does that 😂 I replayed the intro like 10 times because of Mario poping out and saying "yohoo!"
this would've been a really good game
Yeah, if only Nintendo released it on a plug and play in 2017... but that would be preposterous! But not as preposterous as it getting released again on a Console/Handheld hybrid via a subscription model... *sigh* I guess we will never know...
@@dylanheisner654 reading old comments and replying on them sure is fun, huh?
yeah it is.
Artzie Music??? Would’ve never expected you lol
Wow Fay is so cute.
In an "aww how adorable" kinda way, not in a "wow super waifu" kinda way.
+Kippy Kip ayyyyy
Rich thug ayyy lmao
Kippykip wow, so original. Did you think of that one yourself?
Amazing video as always. I knew nothing about Star Fox 2 other than the fact that it was cancelled. I learned so much from this video! :D Definitely liking this video!
They should release this game on HD
+Nessie The Lochness Monster star fox zero
hey i love your content! beta versions of games have always interested me! keep up the good work i can only hope for the best for you :)
+RedstoneFreakCrafter Thank you! :)
***** hello i need to ask you a favor you own an everdrive correct? can you take a mario 64 romhack under 64 mb filesize and put it on one? thanks. ps heres a link srktt.com/files/ED64.exe
***** i must add you may wanna try an expansion pack. i dont know if they make ones more than 4 mb. if they do try and pick one up or something please, if not stick with the 4 mb. thanks again!
The fact that the final version hasn't been "accidentally" leaked could mean that they are planning to someday release it on virtual console. Older versions of the game were released, so that means that either:
-People who have the final version were told to not release it, after the other versions were leaked.
-Releasing the final version could cause more legal problems than leaking alpha/beta versions
-Nintendo is thinking about releasing the final game on virtual console, and told people who have the full version to not release it. (Beta versions would be less of a problem)
Are you from the future?
I have absolutely no memory of writing this comment
I’ve got to echo the question here, are you from the future? Because guess what happened? While no, it wasn’t released on virtual Consol, (kinda?), It was released in other ways. It was released for the SNES portion of Nintendo switch online, and it was released on the SNES mini.
Yet once again, Beta64 has made another awesome video. I love what your doing man keep it up :D!!!
I love how your channel opening is that start up screen for the 64DD add-on, which is by far my favourite.
I would love to hear the soundtrack for this game. The first soundtrack was boss. I still remember how the stage 1 song goes. Will be stuck in my head forever. One of the first games I ever played.
You can do. There is a complete SPC set of this game with all final OST and scrapped music :)
"Could that mean that this Andross-like character isnt Andross? Could it instead be a member of Star Fox called Saru?" Really?
Pretty cool you brought the walker thing up. I've played the beta Star Fox 2 rom long ago and was excited that they brought the walker back.
Thank you for this video.
Also, as a Star Fox fan growing up, it was a real surprise discovering the existence of Star Fox 2.
Your dream came true. We'll see the complete version of the game on snes classic edition
7:07 *jaw drops*
emulating it on my phone 15 seconds later
I'm really enjoying these videos!
I find this sort of thing very interesting so keep it up!
loved your nintendo power memories!
I regret mishearing it as "starfox 2 was a different erection of gameplay"
I mean, cloud is in smash now. Anything can happen
+Minecraftheros195 I hope so. Really is such a shame this was never released officially.
Yep. And it released.
Absolutely facisnating. Great work on the video!
I love that my Repro of Star Fox 2 that says "Unreleased bata" like "Not for Resell' made it in your video.
This is really, really cool.
I always wanted to read a Nintendo Power issue. Now with Nintendo Force, I can! And your interview would make this so much cooler! Seriously man, congrats!
I really love the final beta Lylat System map. That space station floating in front of that star looks so sinister.
We must get our hands on that 5th version no matter what.
when starfox 2 launches, can you make a vid about the differences between the final product and the old rom?
I heard you on did you know gaming
I absolutely love SF64, but playing SF2 a couple of years ago was just amazing. It feel so good to play a "new" Star Fox game that was so good.
Watching this and you bringing up Nintendo Power makes me feel so nostalgic.
I can't wait to play Star Fox Zero when it comes out! And who knows.... If Donkey
Kong Country and Earthbound Beginnings can appear on the Virtual Consoles, I
know Star Fox 1 & 2 could make it there.
Anythings possible, Beta 64! ;)
StarFox 2 is being released on the SNES Classic Edition, HOORAY
who's here in 2017 when the snes classic got revealed
NJNIKOLAX me cuz I enjoyed it a lot
Kind of funny if you think about it, Starfox 2 went from being the lost Starfox game to the series most recent release.
Woah! Congratulations on getting into a magazine :D
I'm gonna snoop around with this new nintendo magazine, I didn't grow up with Nintendo Power because well i don't live in America but during the early 2000s where the internet was early in its mainstream years I used to read some digitaly scanned versions of some issues but the ones I loved the most was the starfox comic.
That comic kicks so much ass for me as a child and its still pretty good though some parts I laugh at now of how silly it looks.
I nearly purchased a rom dumped cartridge of this game in PAL format but due to me being out of work and needed the money i had to lay off on buying the game sadly :(.
I wish they leaked the full complete ROM. If they can't sell it, we would like to see what we had missed.
Funny you should say that, because while yes, Nintendo actually did officially release it, via the SNES Mini, and Nintendo Switch Online, someone actually did dump the ROM, and put it out online.
I wonder how many people came here because of starfox 2 getting an official release after 20 years.
I think it's more than a little generous to say that Star Fox 2 would have "pushed the genre forward". The whole reason we haven't seen many Star Fox games is because they broke away from the original's formula after 64, and fans rejected the changes. Even in the upcoming game, the elements that everyone is most pessimistic about (the walker and hover transformations) originate in this game. While it looks impressive on a technical level, Nintendo probably saved the franchise by scrapping this game.
Great vids, mate! Subscribed!
We need your help, Star Fox 2! Star Fox is in a downfall! It's been too influenced by Star Fox 64, and is unlikely to get a 'new' game anytime soon! Our Miyamoto, alone, can't do the job! Hurry Star Fox 2!
(I'm wanting Star Fox 2 on VC as well. Should not have been cancelled by Miyamoto back then.)
well Star Fox 2 is on The Switch, and SNES Classic Edition.
Beta64 is such an Alpha69
This is my favorite vid on this channel
I remember playing the final beta. ...A lot.
I had no idea what anyone was saying but luckily the gameplay essentials were easy enough to figure out by themselves. On expert mode this game is a frantic good time.
Damn, I bet you feel great about today's news!
Do a video about starfox adventures on n64!
+Blockhaj smash You mean Dinosaur Planet?
Lugbzurg Yea dinosaur planet.
You guys mean stairfax temperatures right?
Oldschoolnintendogamer The predecessor to StairFax Asphalt, you mean?
Love your videos man.
Cool channel! Very underrated. I liked and subbed!
I would love see Miyu and Fae in place of Krystal, which in first place doesn't even should be in the Starfox series
+Eric Sanic Adventures wasn't a Star Fox game to begin, so.
Everything is out of place, absolutely everything. No exceptions
Not that much. Sabre, the original protagonist, for example looks like a mix between Fox and Link
Eric Sanic Well, that's interesting. And i talked up my ass
+Comité Subterráneo Doth thou mean "Stairfax Temperatures"?
Sonic Adventure is, even though it has it's problems, miles better than Temperatures.
***** God damn, JonTron is like a germ now...
lawyers fuck everything up again.
Hey!!! This video was released on my brithday! This is a cool gift ^.^
I love your channel so much
Oh hey, it's that game Nintendo axed so they could harvest the code to improve their games on the N64 instead of learning how to make their own 3D stuff.
Please, do Donkey Kong Racing/Diddy Kong Pilot
diddy kong pilot is banjo pilot
Got to your channel from DidYouKnowGaming. I kinda binge watched you videos. A lot of interesting stuff here ^_^
Nintendo is finally releasing the finished version this year!
The final version of Star Fox 2 will be released with the SNES Classic!
Star fox 2 is now being including in the super nes classic.
Nice job on DYK Gaming. Your ends late sold me on your channel. Cheers!
Just finished beating the official Star Fox 2 and I love it. The challenge is just right on normal, with a difficulty change if you want it to be more intense, and the length of the game depends purely on your skill.
To the "Sans" of time!
wanna know why it's been so long since the last Star Fox?
Star Fox Adventures is why
Or Assault
Or worse yet, Command. My opinion is that Krystal, who never meant to be a Star Fox character, had alienated the series. So, SF: Zero just reseted the storyline to make the series fresh again.
ViciousTheHedgehog95
Reseted the storyline?
I don't think they reset as much as you think, in star fox zero the battle begins
Slippy stated
"It has been ten whole days since we left Sauria..."
So Sauria (dinosaur planet)
From Adventures and Assault are still canon, and the director of the game said he would love to put her in a sequel.
So I guess she's still canon ;)
Lorraine Carrillo Hopefully she'll be developed better in Star Fox Zero 2. And they should bring in Miyu and Fey for Christ's sakes!
ViciousTheHedgehog95
Agreed, they slightly expanded andross's story so perhaps they'll expand hers.
Personally I would love to see many more characters in the series including Fay and Miyu, unfortunately according to Dylan Cuthbert Nintendo has some issues regarding
Star Fox 2 and can't release the game because of it, I don't know if Fay and Miyu are apart of that nightmare, and could not be added dew to legal issues.
Hopefully they'll be in future installments.
“So why is this series so beloved by fans? Personally, I think it’s because it’s so darn fun.”
Nah, I think it’s because of Melee.
Great story! I heard about a second Star Fox game for SNES that was unreleased, but I didn't know there was that much information around it.
who came here from the star fox 64 beta 64?
me
Dude, I love ya', but your upload schedule can't be ANY worse.
Also, I wanna decompile the final beta, make Slippy the best character in the game, translate it, then slap it on a bunch of cartridges and sell them for trolls.
So they HAVE to listen to Slippy.
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I only remember playing the first alpha of this game back in like 2000 or something. I have seen some gameplay of newer builds over the years but I have never played it on emulator. I am looking forward to playing it for the first time ever!
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo released Star Fox 2 for the Virtual Console as sort of a way to promote Star Fox Zero. That, or make it a pre-order bonus or include a download code for it in every copy of the game.
Well Beta64 you called it! A finished playable version of the game finally getting released. Now we just need that N64DD wide release.
Really great video!

We are getting it guys! Star fox 2 on the SNES Classic Edition!!!!
Has officially blown my mind to learn that the finished game actually exists. That said, even if it never gets released to the public I'm more than happy with the translated beta.
Hi Mario! Nice to see an Easter egg!
