One disclaimer to note under this item (which should not in any way undermine that the original comment is great advice!) is that Ascendant Element, at least in current game build, is a double-edged sword for AoE spells; your enemies cannot resist or be immune to the damage, but neither can you.
So make sure you're being careful with AoE and Bolster Spell metamagics since you can't just throw a communal resist/protection on and be safe. :D

Yips, one mistake : the 5-Foot Step does not burn the Full-Round Action, on the contrary. The confusion comes from the fact it does burn your Movement. So you can do Full-Round Action +5-Foot Step or 5-Foot Step +Full-Round Action.

In turn-based mode if you start your round off with the 5 foot step (holding shift) it burns both your movement and your standard action. I think the games mechanics might be a bit wonky with this feature?

@@WolfheartFPS it depends on if its a surprise attack or not but usually if you move 5 feet you can still do a full round action if you had a full round action to begin with. in a surprise attack it gives you a choice of either a move action or an attack action, basically just to position your troops and use some buffs or de-buffs. one way to ensure you only move the 5 feet is to right click the mouse button to toggle it that locks the movement. when you use it to disengage I believe it is a full round action though I may be wrong.

And keep in mind: Making a coup de grace provokes attacks of opportunity from other enemies in range. and ofc you can move beforehande, but only 5 feet, with your 5-foot-step. And yes it kills many targets, because its a guaranteed crit. If the target survives it has to make a fortitude save with a DC equal to 10+the damage. If it can't make the save it dies instantly. But keep in mind that there are creatures who are immune to that (all creatures that are immune to crits for example)

Although you are right in general about using dex for attack bonus, Lann is in a weird spot here. At 3rd level zen archer he gets the "zen archery" feat. This allows him to use wisdom instead of dex as his attack bonus with bows. However if you take a point in dex (as you did on your showcased Lann) his dex will be higher then his wisdom and he will use dex for attack rolls.
However, putting a point in wisdom at level 4 is still a bit better then putting it in dex. Both will add +1 to AC and AB, however the AC bonus from wisdom will apply to touch and flatfooted AC aswell, whereas the AC bonus from dex will only apply to touch AC. Therefore, if you plan on taking Lann to level 3+ zen archer and have him use bow exclusively, you should put points into wisdom instead of dex.

So here's something that isn't super obvious and I didn't even realize until my third playthrough, some books give your main character permanent buffs when read. The earliest one is the tome of the minotaur book in the intro that gives you +1 on all glaives you use. You have to click the book, hit info, and scroll to the bottom of the book to count it as read and it'll then show up in abilities. Some books are going to be useless, like that book if you don't use glaives at all but others are very useful like +10 hp or +1 ac against dragons. This only works for your character though, not party members.

If you're an arcane spellcaster consider giving those classes Mithral armor. These type of armors are exceptional. They are considered one weight category lighter than normal armors. Meaning a heavy Mithral armor is now medium armor and medium armors are now light armors. Plus they get 10% less arcane spell failure, meaning 20% is now 10%. This is huge. Honestly not worth it. Arcane casters who are not magi are best off using Mage Armor because it doesn't consume those precious feats.
Take, for example, Nenio. You have to spend a feat to give her Light Armor Proficiency. You can then give her a Mithril Chain Shirt +2 (that could go on someone else) for 6 points of AC. She remains, however, a 6 HP/level class with now a 10% spell failure chance. So now a second feat can undo your arcane spell fail. Her AC will still be relatively low, meaning any real melee enemy will wind up hitting her.
Or - just cast Mage Armor for 4 points and position her carefully, well behind the aggro. Nenio's AC at that point is effectively Seelah's AC, and her HP are effectively Seelah's HP.

    @Harrison11106 3 года назад +3

I would add to point 4. Take a good look at what does stack vs what doesn't. Certain ACs WILL stack, others won't. For example, Mage Armor won't stack with physical armors (light, medium, heavy) but WILL stack with those items that give magical bonuses (bracers of armor, amulets, rings of protection). This also applies, to a lesser extent, with weapons.

    • @HelmuthGerka

The game itself will give you a warning "!" when you have effects that don't stack.

    • @Sandokiri
      @Sandokiri 2 года назад

Mage Armor doesn't stack with Bracers of Armor, I promise you that.
The **general rule** of effect stacking is that two effects with the same type-name (eg, armor bonus) do not stack, unless they say that they stack. In this case, you're trying to stack two Armor bonus effects.
Because it matters for pets, Natural Armor bonuses from spells (barkskin) or items (amulet of natural armor) DO stack with the Natural Armor bonus a pet receives for its tough hide or scales. These also stack with an Armor bonus, such as from barding (pet armor).
Dodge bonuses always stack though - they're an exceptional case.

One i might add is remembering to utilize stealth. While it certainly benefits rogues the most, it also can leave your enemies flat-footed on the first round of combat, and, since you are ambushing them, you are going to have a lower chance of your characters being flat footed.

@@ThatFletcherGuy. in pathfinder, it refers to situations in which characters are disadvantaged from not being ready for combat. in particular, this is the rules for it:
"A character who has not yet acted during a combat is flat-footed, unable to react normally to the situation. A flat-footed character loses his Dexterity bonus to AC and Combat Maneuver Defense (CMD) (if any) and cannot make attacks of opportunity, unless he has the Combat Reflexes feat or Uncanny Dodge class ability."
when you ambush other characters you get what is called a surprise round in which your side basically can take a turn without the other side being able to do so. Because of this, all of the enemies are flat-footed and none of your characters are

I tried to play Pathfinder: Kingmaker and lost interest. The ridiculous number of choices overwhelmed me and I never have any interest in building/maintaining a hold (I turned on the auto for that). Having watched this video makes me unlikely to play Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous even though I purchased it long ago. I wonder if these tips also apply if you play on one of the easier modes, as that may be what I try out. I just want to have fun, and all of these convoluted, complicated, and complex mechanics only serve to push me away from playing. I 've been playing CRPGs since the early 90s and it wasn't until these Pathfinder games that the complexity made me not want to play. These types of games always had complexity...and often a high level of difficulty...but I suppose most of the mechanics and choices were either hidden or streamlined. I guess some people enjoy the minutiae Pathfinder CRPG games provide but for me they just create confusion and stress. To each their own.

As a long time CRPG, especially turn based and based on D&D, I do personally enjoy the complexity of Pathfinder but it definitely has pushed the complexity threshold way further than the CRPG developed in the last 25 years.
I think you should give it a try on story mode : with the lowest difficulty settings, you don’t need to make the perfect choice in your character development. Just take one of pre generated character, activate auto level up and try it, as you already own the game. And see if you can enjoy the game that way and maybe slowly learning its mechanics

It's irrelevant to the computer game, but if you ever find yourself playing the pen-and-paper - composite bows are keyed into a particular strength rating.
So you'll find, for example, a +1 Composite Longbow (+2 str). This would let you add +2 to your damage rolls if your strength modifier is +2 or higher. If your strength is too low, you don't get the bonus to damage, but you DO get a penalty on your attack roll. Effectively, the extra taut bow is too hard for you to draw back correctly. The devs on the computer game made composite bows much more user friendly.

4 things I wish I know before I start playing the game. I will chronological order them. Spoiler alert:
    1. In prologue (before you wake up in tavern) you can get 3 companions. Seelah Paladin (Lawful Good) - tank, Camellia shaman (Undetectable) - only healer (can also be dps with two rapiers) and Lann (Lawful Neutral) monk or Wenduag fighter (Neutral Evil) - range archer dps depending of your actions and choices.
    2. After prologue you can get mercenaries for 500 gold if you: don’t level up your main character, remove all party members from active party and set “Only active companions receive experience” to ON. Name of NPS is Hilor. 4. After prologue I got round 6000 gold after selling items.
    3. You can respect for free first few times. Companions form level you get them but mercenaries from beginning. You can even change their class and stats. NPS is Hilor.
    4. After prologue you will be close to level 4. So you can just travel to Market Square and back. You will get random encounter where you can get Nenio Wizard (True Neutral). Bay helping her you will get level 4.
Now game really starts. Bonus advice: Make your main character charisma based with high Persuasion because only with him you will get dialogs and dialogs options. And build rest of the party around him.

I would also say: don't stack up on consumables and use them instead, especially in the early game when you have limited spells per day. They are not worth keeping most of the time, unless they are very specific defense buffs, but pretty much worth using and they scale with character lvl to a degree.

TL;DW of this video: Learn Pathfinder 1e/D&D 3.5e.
    But seriously, to sum up,
+Bows don't do damage like they do in 5e, get a Composite Longbow if your STR is 12+. (Composite Bows come in Short and Long variety, btw. Your keep merchants sell a +3 Holy Composite Shortbow, so Wolfheart is incorrect at 2:13)
+PF1e and 3.5e take logic into account, you take a -4 to hit shooting into melee combat, and you will get smacked if you try to shoot while you have an enemy trying to stab you. Feats negate this. Point Blank Shot for the -4, and Point Blank Master for the Attack of Opportunity
++ (Gonna get in-depth for this one, as it requires explaining) All spells that are Rays make what is called a "Ranged Touch Attack", and is countered by Touch AC. Touch AC is usually much, much, much lower, than normal AC, so even with the -4 to hit, you should be reliably hitting AC. What you need to worry about is Energy Resistance, and Spell Resistance. Spell Resistance is AC vs Spells, essentially. If a target has a SR of 15, you have to roll 1d20+Caster Lever and meet or exceed a 15 for your spell to affect the target, regardless of you hitting. Take Scorching Ray. You make your attack, hit, but don't overcome spell resistance, so no damage. Energy Resistance is a flat number that is subtracted from the damage an element does to a target *_per attack._* Again, Scorching Ray. You hit, you overcame SR, but the enemy has Energy Resistance (Fire) of 5 points. Each ray that hits does 4d6, or 4-24 damage. However, the target has Energy Resistance (Fire) 5, so you're actually doing 0-19 damage. Per Ray. So, level 11+, when you're firing 3 rays (Spells don't upcast in PF1e/3.5e they scale as you level up) doing (assuming all hit) 12d6 damage, or 12-42, you're actually doing 0-27 damage. You can overcome this Energy Resistance by taking the Mythic Path Feat "Ascendant Element" bypassing any and all Energy Resistance/Immunity that a foe has toward that specific element. The elements are Fire, Cold, Lightning, Acid, and Sonic. No poison elemental damage, poisons are different in Pathfinder and D&D 3.5e.
+All creatures get Opportunity Attacks when you move out of a threatened square before taking a 5ft adjustment, or Disengaging. You also will get smacked if you try to cast a spell in a threatened square, period, unless it is Quickened, and if you try to shoot a bow/crossbow/slingstaff in melee without the Point Blank Mastery feat.
+Again, PF1e and 3.5e use logic with armor. Heavier armor is more protective, but is heavier, reducing your movement speed. All incurs failure chances for arcane spells, and most give an Armor Check Penalty for certain skills (namely Athletics and Stealth). These can be mitigated by playing a class that can cast spells in armor, taking the Arcane Armor Feats, being a Dwarf (in case of movement penalty), or being a Divine Caster like a Paladin or Cleric.
+Weapons and Damage Resistance. In 3.5e and Pathfinder 1e, there exists yet another defense creatures can have. Damage Reduction, or DR. Some DR cannot be bypassed. You will know it as DR (number)/-. Some DR will be able to be overcome by a specific damage type, like Slashing from a Longsword. DR (Number)/Slashing. Even more DR can be overcome by weapon material DR X/Mithrial or DR X/Adamantine or Cold Iron. And some even have DR X/Specific Alignment. DR 5/- knocks off 5 points of damage from every individual attack. So even if you could, somehow, attack 10,000 times in a round, if you never do 6 or more damage in a single hit, you do exactly 0 damage to the target.
You need to use the proper weapon/material/alignment weapon to bypass this. Or be a Paladin and Smite them, as virtually all enemies you fight are Evil. The good news is that if a creature has DR 10/Slashing, Good, Cold Iron, you only need 1 of those types to bypass the DR. Either a Slashing Weapon like a Longsword, or Battleaxe, a Good weapon like a Holy Warhammer, or a Cold Iron weapon like a Cold Iron Spear.
EDIT: Addendum: There is a Wizard class that lets you focus an element, even getting to turn, say, Fireballs, into Cold damage. Normally this would be a very, very bad idea, but we have Mythic Paths in play, so you can get the Ascendant Element Feat to bypass Energy Resistance as I mentioned.

As something like the keen enchantment , agile or etc are as equally useful when . As these may be useful for some party member's with out them needing to take a feat or multi-class to get a familair resault. As needing to sink 1 to 2 feat's could be use else where if they use X weapon that have certain enchantments on it. Such as a cleric who have good DEX score could use a +1 agile shortsword and be as effective as a fighter who use a +1 shortsword with the same STR score not including combat feat modifyer to the roll .

Anyone that you want to be able to shoot something, or for a caster that you want to focus on rays, it's worth it to take PBS, Precise Shot and maybe even Improved Point Blank. Reason being that, though the debuff from shooting in combat is bad, having point blank mode enabled and operable makes it so even if there's someone in melee range to your ranged character, they can still fire. It's also handy for enclosed spaces or one of the numerous encounters where you get ambushed or flanked by additional mobs. If you're playing a ranged class, chances are you won't have to worry too much about getting these bceause you'll proabably get them as bonus feats or as an extra feat for ranged feats from that class, it's still worth mentioning because it's easy to forget how useful point blank feats are. I didn't really use point blank sholt that much in Kingmaker, I get to Wrath and undervalued it's importance and found myself having my ranged character missing shots at close range often.

Correction about the 5ft step. It does not cost you a full round action. You can do a 5ft step AND full round action in one turn.
What the 5ft step does is use up all of your movement for the turn, so if you take a 5ft step you can no longer move at all until the next round.

Saying the 5 ft step uses your full round action is misleading. You can choose to use a 5 ft step in exchange for using your move action to move. You can still use your move action as part of a full round action such as a full round attack or casting a spell.

For spell casters you can easily focus on fire damage if you want to. There is a mythic ability that lets you select one energy type that ignore enemies energy resistance and/or immunities.

I’m amazed how much this game draws from the source material, basically ALL of these points apply to the Pathfinder TTRPG and other TTRPGs like Dungeons & Dragons. In my current game my players are fighting wererats and they find a silver-alloy dagger but ended up selling it because it only does 1d4 damage compared to the greatsword they ended up buying (2d6 damage). Unfortunately, wererats are IMMUNE (takes no damage) to non-silvered weapons so that greatsword was doing nothing for them and they had to run away from basically every encounter and track down the silver dagger. The worst parts was, they sold the dagger AFTER finding out that they were dealing with wererats but made the mistake of believing that wererats were only RESISTANT (takes half damage) to non-silvered weapons.

Pretty major correction, a 5-ft step is NOT a full round action. It is a special action that restricts specifically movement for the remainder of the turn but does not cost you move or standard action to perform. You can 5-ft step and then make a full round attack, drink some pots, cast spells whatever you want to do so long as it doesn't involve having to physically move. This makes point-blank master largely irrelavent.

If you're making a non primary rogue fighting character, I cannot stress enough just taking one rank of Rogue (Thug) and focusing on persuasion as a skill. You easily can build a two handed fighter, cleaving monster that scares away enemies and takes advantage of multiple Attacks of Opportunities. Turns the character into a ginzu blender.

Mistake 1) Like me you make a crossbloded sorcerer. Don't, their bonus became useless once you go mythic. And If you do and take conjuring Summone monster as your first spell. You are stock with it until the level 3 or 4 I believe. That was dumb on my part.

A 5ft step does NOT consume your move or your standard action, it is not a full-round action. That is completely incorrect. A 5ft step simply cannot be combined with other movement on your turn. If you 5ft step, you cannot move afterwards, but you can use your move action to do other things, like drink a potion. 5ft step back, drink two potions, boom. Or 5ft step back, gather power and shoot a kinetic blast without needing to make a defensive casting check. Same can be said for ranged attackers who take AoOs when they shoot while threatened unless they have specific class features like Lann does.

    • @MI982

@@shineymcshine435 Zen Archery - Lann can use wisdom modifier on attack roles instead of dexterity modifier. Dexterity drops while being enlarged but wisdom does not. Also, a lot of Lann's abilities are based on wisdom and his class will save is low. Enlarge isn't there just for the +2 size bonus to strength, it also raises weapon die by one category; d8 -> 2d6, d10 -> 2d8 and so on in exchange for -1 to hit. My Tips for ranged users:
    1. There are a lot of Companions, that use Bows/Crossbows initially, so if you want to differentiate, don't necessarily choose one for your own character.
    2. Do not choose Stormwalker, and this is meant serious, DO NOT CHOOSE Stormwalker. Big Spoiler, so choose if you wanna read this......................................................... The one good thing about her/him for a lot of levels before anything sub-class specific is turning your bow into electric in case the demons you fight are not harmed by non-magic weapons. Well Demons are also immune to Electricity... Flamewarden is also impacted, because of the 10 resistance of Demons, but where a Flamewarden will do some demage with his ability on, the Stormwalker will do 0.

This is some high quality stuff wolf. I watched this just to hammer home some ogf the tips I already picked up watching you play. Just to reinforce the rules, so to speak. Looking forward to playing on the new patch today.
I think I finall have some of the basics down pact, like the acrobatics skill to avoid AoOs, how to use point blank shot and precise shot effectiveley to not get the penalty, and importantly to always remeber to buff your party BEFORE even starting a battle encounter, so as not to waste precious turns buffing the party. Something new I learned from this video are the different bows and how the strength stat is added only to composite bows - that was something new for me.
All in all, very solid tips. i encourage all new players and people considering trying this game to watch this before playing.
