So happy to see a review not based on video editing use
Thank you, sometimes some reviewers forget most of us use a iPad just for normal day to day tasks
That's why it's called Microsoft Office for the M1 IPad not Adobe Premier or Divinci Resolve.
Or paperlike
Or those planner thingy i mean really you would shell put bucks just to plan your to do list?! Good to know there are other uses of ipad other than that😂😂
This is honestly like 70% of what I’m gonna do with my iPad. So nice to have someone do a review about this sort of things instead of complaining about Final Cut Pro not being available on the iPad
I love the iPad. However, one major limitation for me is that Excel won't run sheets that have macros, VBA, hyperlinks or add-ins. (I have a few critical spreadsheets that have these). These all work on an M1 Mac, so I'm not sure why Microsoft can't make them work on the M1 iPad. It's frustrating.
This is the information I came to RUclips for!
It works on my M2!
@@jaylaarmani3697 really?
Does it work now on m1?
Thanks for the video Refreshing to see something different to speed tests with 4k video and useless benchmarks. 90% of reviews seem to think that all this new ipad needs is pro apps for video and photo editing. Pretty sure most of these RUclips reviewers will still be using their Macs for these 'pro' Apps, regardless of what improvements apple make to ipad os.
What i'd like to see from Ipad OS15 the ability to run full desktop quality mainstream apps, a decent file manager and proper support for external monitors.
Spot on!
After spending a 30+ year career in the tech field, I am so glad to be retired and no longer need Windows nor Office products. I supported those products for years and developed databases with Access, so I’m quite familiar with the entire suite. But, if you don’t need these products for work-related tasks, the Apple products such as Pages & Sheets work just fine and are much more organically compatible with the iPad Pro hardware and OS. Hooray for independence!
the M1 can be 10 times more powerful but Excel for tablet is still Excel for tablet. It makes no difference whether it's M1 or A12Z... Saved you guys sometime.
Right on the money!
Everyone views apple as expensive, although given the performance and design on this iPad, it is actually very good value for your money!
Especially given how long you'll be using it with almost no significant performance drops. People will say it's too expensive to buy this for $1,200 to use it for 6 years, but in that same time frame will buy 3 different tablets that cost $500+. As I was told, buy it nice or buy it twice (maybe even thrice)
NOT if it doesn't have the Operating System and Software that takes advantage of all that power, other wise why bother upgrading from an iPad Pro 2018?
That is the contention at the moment with power users of the iPad Pro there is a growing gap in the parity between the hardware and the software.
@@AdmiralBison i have the 2018 and indeed there is no reason to upgrade. Unless ur capable of using the full potential of m1
@@iflexx123 The hardware is not the problem, it is long lasting, powerful and it is good to future proof as much was possible with what you can afford. Reduce upgrade cycles.
The problem is the Operating System/Software environment is not keeping up with the increasing hardware specs where there is really no apps (Besides Divinity 2) that uses all that power.
It is good there is little reason for any users with an iPad Pro 2018 to upgrade, but new users or those upgrading from 6-7 years ago, there is also little reason to upgrade besides performance differences.
The iPad hardware as you notice is getting more expensive, the question is what software is there to justify getting these expensive devices?
Running mobile games is fine...but its low hanging fruit when you could run pro apps, desktop level programs and AAA games.
@@iflexx123 it’ll bend within a month or so!!
Nice work. I’m picking up my 2021 iPad Pro 1TB version this afternoon after work. The MS suite is probably going to be some of the first software to be installed on the new iPad Pro.
I use a combo touch keyboard, it works great. I am a 365 subscriber and was really disappointed in the functionality of word and excel. Yeah, they open quick and you can type stuff - this is all this video reviewed. And I’m by no means a power user, just wanted to create a quick spreadsheet and some word docs and it’s shocking how limited they are - half the buttons I’m used to aren’t there. Sadly the office suite on the iPad Pro does not let me replace my laptop, which was a major point of the upgrade to iPad Pro for me.
Thank you for this review, I am debating between an iPad and MacBook
Hi. Have you tried MS Office for iPad? It supposed to work really well for word, excel and PowerPoint
Is the apps better now?
@@aliciapark6241 not at all.
If you are getting an iPad Pro M1, will it be your Laptop replacement to use Office on?
Laptop replacement? Yes. iPad Pro has been my laptop replacement since 2018. Waiting for my M1 iPad Pro to get here.
Yes !
Possibly. It depends on whether or not I can expect to perform similar operations without limitations.
@@wesw8821 Heavy Excel work I still need to use my Windows Desktop. So hopefully with all this new headroom in M1 these companies start porting over the full power applications.
Want to win iphone se💥170k
The iPad is excellent for portability between meetings and days out of the office. But the Microsoft office applications are light versions so anything more than simple edits or review is just not possible. It is not a substitute for a lap top, period! However an extremely useful tool, one which I have been using daily for over 4 years now.
Yeah… this is the problem. The review is fine but not from a power user perspective.
Whats a computer?
bang on! This gets to the heart of the issue. Apple is awesome for portability, connectivity and ease of use. But, I am a heavy excel user and get into some pretty meaty data manipulations. This is when you soon realise Apple is miles and miles and miles from bridging the gap. It represents a real opportunity for apple but I don’t think they need or want to invest in this space because us nerdy data churners are a minority. This guy who posted (bless him, and thank you) doesn’t truly know the power of a full Microsoft suite.
Question: Can you have Word & PowerPoint open at the same time AND be presenting with PowerPoint out to a projector or TV... all at the same time? Or does presenter view in PowerPoint not work when using Word side by side with it?
Finally someone not doing 4K video exports. Thank you just the video I have been searching for
besides compatibility and multitasking, i like to see more functions to ipad office 365 similar to desktop version.
The honest review is if you want to buy ipad for do work from excel and word , don’t buy it. Really disgraceful. I even can’t do basic functions such as insert symbols, do subscript, superscript. Lost of money. Better for video conference and watch netflix
Matt. This is exactly what I am planning to do with the new M1 iPad Pro 12.9 inch.
Run Microsoft Office on it and ditch my old Windows PC.
I love the iOS system and feel that this is combining the best of both worlds.
I will probably combine the iPad with a large external monitor for working with large spreadsheets.
Thank you! I found the video very reassuring.
Just bear in mind that at the moment, ipads don’t play well with external monitors. All it does is mirror your display, and you get awful black bars because of the improper scaling. Hopefully this gets updated at WWDC.
Also just bear in mind the functions and features in the Excel, Word and Powerpoint apps on iOS only are a subset of their MacOS or Windows counterparts have. E.g. many important Excel functions are not available, you cannot edit notes in cells from other people, you cannot add notes to cells on an ipad, ... Word has no dictionaries, ... Making or reviewing a budget on an iPad is nearly impossible. Lot of limitations with copy / paste functions between apps (past unformatted text, paste as quotation, ...) and font management; Success if you intend to fully switch, but be aware that the iOS version is not at all at par with the macOS versions.
Unfortunately the iPad Office Apps are still WAAAY too limited to do something productive with them. Data validation in Excel is not really possible and there is no bibliography in Word. Means you always have to switch back to the Desktop Apps.
Agreed! I wish Microsoft would make them more robust. Having them limited and not having Final Cut Pro are both the apps that are holding the iPad back from taking over my MacBook Pro
yeah the iPad version is so limited, what's the point of paying a 365 subscription if I'm not getting the full version
@@youryoui524 the problem is that if you work in the corporate world you need to work in the MS suite.
Not just Office, we need full desktop Chrome, Adobe, Foxit, Maya, Solidworks, Resolve, etc etc on iPadOS.
What's the point of having a $1,600+ Tablet PC if it can't run PC apps?
Yikes didn't realise you don't get the desktop office suite, completely useless for real office work
It is cool to see the iPad, along with iPadOS advance, although I still don't think I could use this daily for work and productivity, e.t.c.
Your iphone can do that too.... Its still an MS mobile version.
Dude you did not even remotely demonstrate how excel works with the ipad. All you did was a bunch of fluff, by constantly touching the screen. I would really like to see how the ipad pro works in excel like opening a real document, creating a spreadsheet, inputting formulas, combining multiple sheets, inputting values etc. You really can't do all of this by just touching the screen, preferably you would need a mouse, or just use the trackpad on the keyboard.
Also I didn't see you use the apple pencil, this obviously would be a useful tool in a powerpoint presentation. You really just glossed over this saying that the ipad has no problems running microsoft documents, but you did not show any real life work examples. Opening a preconfigured template and saying ouwee this is snappy, just doesn't cut it. I want to see the ipad doing "real" computer work if it can at all without crazy workarounds. Also you did go over how or where would you save your documents, besides the cloud. Does the ipad have a real file system? Can the ipad download documents directly to the storage drive? Lots of unanswered questions.
Sorry, but I must disagree when it comes to Excel. For my uses, without Pivot Table, Pivot Chart and Slicer support (which iPad Excel does NOT have), you might as well be running the free Numbers. The only work-around I’ve found is to access Office on the web via the Safari browser…which you could do with almost any other device. This, and a good file management system, are what’s preventing me from adopting an iPad as my full-time device.
Absolutely stunning
Matt you are doing a great job. Only one thing: go to 3:08. I think you should have removed that clip mate.
Thanks, just snipped it out those few seconds, so should be gone within the next hour or so
iPad Pro is good but what we really need is the ability to sideload app(s) or have Mac OS on it
Thanks for showing that MS365 apps will open on IPad Pro 2021. It would have been far more helpful to understand if and how MS365 apps operate using practical examples. I’m left to wonder if MS apps will work as well in an Apple OS as they do in a Windows environment. I recommend a deeper dive into compatibility and real world use in another video if possible.
Thanks for the idea, might look into that
@@MattTalkTech Thank you. I’m a long-time Windows PC user considering purchase of IPad Pro. I’m willing to migrate to Apple but not until I know I will have similar experience with MS apps in Apple OS. Or if the experience I’m looking for is even possible. I sense there may be others who share my interests and would benefit from a deeper dive.
I have been using MS Office apps in my 2020 iPad for more than 6 months. In my experience, iOS-based MS Office can do 80-90% of what their desktop counterparts in both Mac and PC can do and open/use files with similar extensions like .docx or .pptx. In majority of cases you can still be productive using these iOS apps but they do have limitations because app developers did not give them much attention but hopefully in future versions, these apps can be as good as their desktop counterparts. Multi-tasking using MS office apps can be done in the 2020 iPad Pro as well just like split screen, etc and the iPad really shines if used with a keyboard and mouse if you intent to use it as a laptop replacement
@@ganzonfamily You’ve been helpful. Thank you.
Nice work👍
Thank you!
Microsoft is still limiting Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iPadOS up to a point that it is only really usable to edit / correct documents, not to create word documents. Essential features such as table of contents, references, format templates are missing. Teams doesn’t have keyboard support, e.g. to mute/unmute.
Come on, Microsoft, you can do better.
Do MS sonsame to Android tabs???
Crazy how far iPads have come. I used the OG iPad Pro back in 2015 for college. I was able to get my class notes and work done using the attachable keyboard and it was so portable. Would leave my MacBook Pro 2015 at home.
It got me through college, and I think now is time to finally upgrade. I’m hoping this new iPad lasts me just as long 👍🏽
Wow, never had an iPad but this review confirms that I should get one since the longevity of the product seems worth the price
@@Lovepeaceandchickengrease I sold my iPad to a family memeber and they use it for their lectures/readings in college. So it’s still kicking 🤣
@@Erick925 can you do almost everything you do with a pc? Like when using word or power point or note taking? Also which note taking app do you recommend?
@@Lovepeaceandchickengrease I've had macs, iphones, ipads since the early 2000's. Never had an issue with any product I've bought from Apple!
I love the device. I love it and use it everyday but sorry it’s no replacement for laptop. It’s just not enough as an Engineer. Definitely worth buying though.
I think the biggest let down is the poor integrating with OneDrive.
The big question this video doesn’t address - is there full excel and word functionality now? As I understand there is not, so for those of us who use formula in excel, we still need a MacBook or pc
I stopped using Microsoft a long time ago, although I have free access to Office 365. However, I just installed it on my new iPad Pro today.
do you need to have a paid subcription or is it free to use the app, like in this video?
Thanks for a nice review. Can you multitask with teams? E.g. Having teams and Word open side by side?
Can you have one note split screen (side by side)
Sorry, but that could be base iPad from 2018 and it would be just as fast. I have the M1 iPad Pro and not for productivity reasons. If that's what you're doing save the money and don't bother with anything higher than an Air. Well done video otherwise.
How did you get/made the tear-down artwork? It's very cool!
Multitasking is not as critical as to be able to do multiple selections on Power Point or manage pívot tables on Excel.
Great video! It’s disgusting how OneNote still doesn’t support iPad cursor. Absolutely inexcusable.
Tell that to Microsoft. They're the developer.
Intersting caption of video
Such a beautiful machine, but yet such limited capabilities 😫
You Could Change Font Size and even Type snd Even Place Note on center Of Line and More With Short Cut on Mac, and iPad ib killer idea. Work. For faster Work in iWork and Office and Adobi and more Apps like Note for Mac and iPad and EverNote. Even Xcode in killer idea.
Are you using 11 or 12.9 inch. Which do you recommend
You have skipped comparing the features of the suite between the iPad version and say a desktop version. The ipad version misses a lot of features. Too bad you only focussed on speed of loading which is not that important.
Agree. Can a review be made of the difference between ipad and say a normal pc for Office.
Also, how many files can you open at once. Video shows 2 but is this the limit?
You have a amazing personality!
Great review. Can you do all the normal Excel formula? Vlookup and such?
Exactly....
Since it's an M1 can you write VBA code ? I can write VBA on my M1 MacBook Air.
Lifesaver! I was hoping to switch to an iPad but was worried sick about the office apps not being able to work properly. Thanks a lot!
How much is this?? I'm seeing the option to start a 1 month free trial, word has always been free to use, hasn't it? 🤦🏻♀️
Great video Matt! I prefer the Apple Office Suite so I imagine Numbers will be just as snappy. My new 12.9 lands today so I am a little excited! Keep up the great work!
Awesome, you will love it!
Are you having blooming effects? Shadows?
@@brunomendezcarrasco1546 I haven’t noticed anything like that. The screen looks really good. I’ve watched some HDR content and edited a few photos and nothing like that to report.
Can MS Office be installed on an iPad, instead of using an online subscription?
That’s one mighty cough you got there. Thanks for working so hard for us viewers. Do take care Matt.
Thanks, just snipped it out those few seconds, so should be gone within the next hour or so
Have they figured out a way to cite on it?
Would you use this iPad Pro instead of a MacBook Air ? Don’t currently have a desktop machine always managed with a small iPad but need to up my game
Very unfortunately, this Office App needs subscription. And it costs a lot.
your are so Special , Thanks
Back to the Era of tight integration of HW and SW. Good luck for those engineers and SW designers that are chasing the Incremental Delta.
Unfortunately you have to pay a subscription to use this. Very expensive and not worth it to me.
What about outputting to an external display for Powerpoint? Without that function, Powerpoint is useless.
Hi there. Great review Can I ask if these applications are available as stand alone app that can be purchased as a one off or do they have to be purchased as part of a subscription? Thanks
Man I’m soo exited to know that iPad can do this. I’m definitely going to get iPad Pro and get these apps on this
Can I use Microsoft 2021 (One time purchase) in the iPad Pro now? Or if I have already purchased Microsoft office for my MacBook, may I use the same office account in my iPad Pro?
Is it a Microsoft application available in iPad M1 for free??????✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✅✅✅✅✅
I’ve went from a Pro 9.7 (2016) that I’ve had from launch and gone to a Pro 12.9 (2021) and the only gripe I have is that I had MS Office for FREE on my old 9.7 but the 12.9 wants a subscription…step backwards in my opinion.
The problem with office is that ipad version has 1/10 of the function compared to Mac and PC version. Not exactly pro.
@Antonio Zamudio I am not blaming anyone. Whatever the reason, is a pale imitation of the full suite. But my company uses office, I need that. And a proper file manager would help as well.
I expected to see teams (the heavier app) running a face-to-face call and opening different pop-up chats, sending images.. something more like real life performance test.
How can make musical scores pdf file INDEX with exel 2021 on iPad pro 2021.
Why does excel export to pdf in my ipad pro m1 is sooo slow? It’s 5x faster in tab S8. Also, when I transfer files from external drive it freezes
This iPad was made in 2020 0r 2021?
Are you using the 12.9 or 11 inch in this video?
12.9 as mentioned
is is for free?
How to edit the docx / pptx on our icloud files and save it?
office 365 on iPad is tinkering compared to office 365 on Windows 10 with more convenience menu than on IPAD PRO which lacks many options, it is tinkering
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS SERIOUSLY
When using ipad pro 2020.
Do office, keynote. After typing about 30 minutes, or more than 15 pages... You will fine that the pages, keynotes, office 365, office words... Will consume the memory until it lag. I must restart my ipad then my office can work normally again.
Maybe M1 with 16G Ram will help this bug hahaha... Or it will consume 16GB ram too...
As a full time office user, iPad pro is BAD. I tried my best to learn and work around the limitations, but now I always inch towards my surface for actual work. Which is sad because work is why I bought the iPad pro. I feel really conned because it's not like the iPad doesn't have the processing power to run it.
Simple things like synonyms, reviews, comparing documents etc is not possible. Even on pages, it is not possible. Split screen was ALWAYS possible on a windows desktop. So idk what everyone is harping on about. I want to throw this iPad away because of how useless it is. I can draw on it. But I can draw on the Air just as well. It's not worth the extra money.
Super unbelievable Friend
Just bought an iPad Pro 2021 so that I can use Word on it, and so far I can find nothing on the internet about how to do it. I am not interested in creating newsletters or using Office, which is what all the RUclips videos seem to want to teach you. No basics are explained. How to you save a Word document? How large can Word documents be? Can you minimize a world document? Can you transfer Word documents from a computer to an iPad Pro? How to you navigate the very very different folders system on an iPad? This video is identical to the umpteen others about the new Office on an iPad. I wish there were somebody out there who would explain how to use Word on an iPad.
Yes the iPad Pro hardware is just absolutely insanely awesome, except for that camera is still in the wrong side.
Then it hits you that iPadOS will never allow you to get the most of the hardware. Its like buying Fugaku, the 442 petaflop monster Japanese supercomputer and loading windows 95 on it.
Sadly iPadOS is still a glorified mobile OS and already held back the previous iPad Pro. With this new iPad Pro that gap between Pro hardware and the mobile OS will become even more pronounced. Despite Apple's marketing we all know iPadOS just doesn't allow the iPad Pro to be your only "Computer", not for Professional people anyway. And yet tech reviewers get excited when we get widgets and new emoticons. Really?
I really hope now that Mac and iPad is running M1 we will get a Pro OS for iPad Pro, some kind of merge between iPadOS and MacOS to really take advantage of that amazing hardware.
To me simple things that are still missing
1. Multi User support like MacOS, Windows, Linux, Unix, Android has had for ages.
2. External screen output at native external screen resolution and not just screen mirror but a proper second screen
3. Keep working on improving file manager at least offering ability to format external storage with different filesystems and better file copy status indicator especially over network.
4. Support more filesystems for external storage
5. Consolidate all settings for keyboard, mouse, pen in one menu option rather than scattered everywhere
6. On the topic of mouse and keyboard the use of it can still be improved, mouse input using web office productivity apps on Safari is still flakey for both O365 and Google Docs.
7. Need a App tray like iOS just got or MacOS, Android has had for many years. I really really don't need all my damn apps on my desktop like I'm a toddler
8. Ability to place widgets anywhere allowing me to have a clean clutter free desktop
9. Full on MacOS Safari and Chrome from the Mac. Not glorified desktop like mobile versions. Online design services like Marvel Apps or even AWS consoles work well on desktop but simply does not work well on iPad. Heck some online services like Sendgrid, the console just crashes on login.
10. Perhaps a bit more freedom to sideload apps. Really frustrating that apps like Synology DSGet is not allowed on iOS. (I know this will ever happen)
11. Hopefully all that Mac Silicone productivity/pro apps make their way to iPad too like full MS Office rather than the current gimped mobile version. Would love to also see Flutter, final cut, Adobe suite, xcode on it.
Sadly, its clear Apple still think of the iPad as a large iPhone/Toy/Consumption device
I am hoping they will draw a line though the iPad family where the Pro line actually gets a more Pro OS and the regular iPads that are more geared towards consumption, running the mobile OS aka iPadOS
hey bro great vid...
does anyone know about ms project? it is possible install on ipad?
You need to pay for the apps you cannot use it free and you cannot use F1-10 keys in ipad thats the major problem we have right now
You have to pay for apps on standard Mac also ?
did you need to pay for Ms office?
So basically paying for the 365 subscription for Ipad gives you (pretty much) the same options of free Google docs, right? I am needing something with more features.
Yeah ..i found it.. no many share office in ipad..greats content
The version of outlook for iPad is a joke, it should be the full version, outlook for iPad pro is a joke especially in 2021.
Practical use.. Every RUclips makes a video about how it handles video editing capabilities.. Literally almost none of us do that to the extent these RUclipsrs do.
This dude made the video we all wanted to see.
Mate I hope you wil the lottery!
Can I get office 365 from their website and get all the features? I know the apps are limiting
What about Merger word file
Excel macros supported?
Sorry for asking silly questions, I am new to this. I am thinking of buying an Ipad for education purposes, but I don't know if all these Microsoft Office is paid or free? Can we connect the wifi through an Android phone? Can the Bluetooth connect with other non-Apple products, like speaker and such? Can other Android users open the images or documents that we send via an Ipad?
Great video, however, I use Office 365 on a 2017 iPad Pro, and I gotta say - seems exactly the same - including speed. As office and media consumption are my main uses, I still don’t see a compelling reason to upgrade. Cheers
Thanks for watching and I think Office has been optimised very well for older iPads
Hey bro I am from India and I am going to purchase the m1 chip ipad pro 11 inch and these Microsofts app also work in my ipad also na?
Can I use the same username pwd of Microsoft office which I have in my windows laptop in my iPad Pro to use MS office? Any insights?
for this office type of apps basic iPad 8 which costs little more than 300$ would be enough...
I like working on the ipad a lot but the lack of a good sharepoint integration limites me. Saving from oitlook to a sharepoint location, saving to a sharepoint location and so on
I like this video,
I wondered if I can plug external Hard desk to IPad pro 11 / 2021 (128GB-8GB) , and directly open files xls, docs, ppts, and work on it, then save/close and it will be saved in the Ext. hard desk - or I've to import it > work on it > save it > export back to same folder in Ext. Hard desk.
Simply > Use external Hard desk, as extra memory can use content files when ever I plug in.
And do you recommend other model or specs if IPad pro 11, will not work it.
Thanks for your advice
So is that Microsoft all running on the cloud? Or how much storage iPad is that?
I will be doing a lot of Exel away from home. Should I purchase an iPad Pro or MacBook? Can you compare the two in a video for tracking customers and sales?
Can i using excel fitur all on ipad, like a pc or mac
Recently purchased the M1 and it is beast👌👌👌
Microsoft office could Work on iPad and Mac with more Battery and less RAM usage.
I don’t see the reason why someone should use the unreasonable expensive Microsoft office apps when there are alternatives
