unfortunately marvel and dc were not aiming for a target audience, or a mass audience. no, they went for the mythical wider audience ... by pandering to an extreme to a tiny minority of a minority that had little interest in their work
So is the traqditional publishing industry, and also they have a new thing as of last year where most books seem to have a requirment that one of the main characters be handicapped to even get on store shelves. It is possible adult romance has escaped these stipulations but I don't do that genre. It is not like the movies that fall under that genre at all.
As with everything else, feminists are only too happy to erase from history the women who were there before them and, especially, don't/didn't need them. There were PLENTY of comics written by women (mostly for women). Marie Severin, for example, was a very good artist with credits in books most readers still praise (and more than a few characters created).
That's what bothers me most about all of this. There is no reason why everything has to appeal to everyone. None. Diversity is not inherently good or inherently bad. It's a neutral state, just as homogeneity is. It's what is done with those states that matters. I grew up in a conservative, religious, homogeneous area. And yet, I learned about other cultures and peoples and when I went to college, I chose to specialize in areas far outside my growing up experience. If people like something, they will enjoy it for what it is. If it's not what they want, they should move on to something they do enjoy instead of insisting that the thing they don't like change to suit them. That's not how it should work.
@@ChaoticYak1 They don’t want it to appeal to everyone, feminism is Misandry and so they usually try to alienate men from every space they come across. In fact the framing around diversity assumes if mostly men like something it’s inherently a problem and therefore should be destroyed, which is why they take such glee in doing it and why they don’t seem to call for more diversity in romance novels or nursing.
And traditionally they were children and teenagers. What sort of kid wants to be seen reading a comic book about a character who takes it up the ass? He may as well just bully himself at that point.

quoting Geeky from an old ass video: "These people don't wanna write their own original stories and heroes, they want to write themselves into the comics and stories they like"
Can you even say they like these comics/characters? I'd say a lot of them don't. If they did, they'd try to write things like the stories they liked before. It's about clout. They're either not skilled enough to create something of their own or don't want to go to the effort of building up cred with quality organically kver tume, so they hijack established properties for their popularity and name recognition because they think that they themselves will become popular by proxy if they can just write whatever they story they want with these popular and recognizable characters. They're basically trying to steal popularity by osmosis.. it's kinda like groupies who leech off of famous people and try to handle them under the often mistaken belief that riding their coat tails is the key to fame and success instead of making their own. They just suck so badly at what they're doing that they're only destroying the popularity of the characters they're corrupting by turning them into something they're not. The more ideological types who have infiltrated are similar in the sense they do the same clout chasing thing, only for slightly different, more abstract and supposedly high minded reasons, although there is overlap. Phil Labante has been saying this on the Timcast IRL podcast a lot lately, and it's so true because it's integral to understanding these activist types. "The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution." They want to write established characters because they want to get the biggest platform/microphone possible to disseminate their propaganda message. Think of the brand recognition of established popular brands that these people want to conquer and stick their flag in like won territory in a battle. The bigger the brand they co-opt, the bigger the ideologucal victory for their team. Changing established characters into the image of whatever they want them to be is a display of dominance. "I have yoiur favorite toys now. I can do elwhatever I want with them now, and there's nothing you can do to stop me." Once they've adequately destroyed the brand they seized, making it no longer a useful platform for their agenda, they'll move on to the next most popular cultural thing to seize it and repeat the process all over again. They're basically cultural locusts or parasitic worms that infect their insect host, use them to acheive their own ends, and then move on to the next host to continue the cycle once the previous host has been devoured from within and/or destroyed.
@@Tyler_W yeah X-Men were just supposed to be outcasts. They were supposed to represent anyone who felt like an outcast. Which is honestly why they were so popular with teenagers.
It didn’t matter what was between the legs or what your preferences were when it came to comics. Now we have to marginalize everything like in the ‘1950’s because some people are so close minded.
I don't remember a Captain America comic where Steve Rogers was going;"I'm straight!Have i told you i'm straight? You do know i'm straight, right? And that the whole comic was about that more or less.

That is because these writers are people with zero luck fe experience who's sexuality is their entire persona writing comics for their friends who also live in the exact same bubble of zero personality twits who use their sexuality as their entire personality.
@byron9802 I’m gonna have to disagree with you on the novel you named; from what I understand, the MC acts without any moral compunctions in pursuing her “love interest”, and the plot separate from the romance is not really all there, there’s no world building to justify a revolution in the story. With the MC, she pretty much aggressively pursues the villainess in a method that someone described as “until she says yes”, and her methods for getting close can be described as stalkerish, since she blackmails her way into getting close to the Villainess, despite the latter’s *objections* . I know some would argue that it’s supposed to be “cute”, but if you apply something to real life, and it doesn't come off as cute, then it’s actually not, it’s better suited to slapstick and comedy. And that’s not getting into the shallowness of the other characters.

I remember when I was about 10 I told my male cousin to read Inkheart. It was my favorite book at that time. My 11 year old, male cousin told me that he didn’t want to read it because the main character was female. He is now super ashamed that he said that and he ended up reading and loving it a couple of years later. The idea that you MUST completely identify with a character in order to enjoy their story is absolutely asinine. As a woman, it is super sexist to say that I cannot relate to a male character because I wasn’t born with dangly bits between my legs. That’s a stupid proposition. I have an insane manga collection now, close to a thousand volumes. I have both super cute romcom crap and tons of volumes with strong male heroes and everything in between. I’m just as likely to love a bada$$ male character as I am a bada$$ female character. I hate when people say that something artistic was made solely for men or solely for women. It’s a dumb idea. Art is for everyone, even if you don’t look exactly like the main character.
That's because feminists erase any woman who doesn't need their patronage. Not gonna join the hen party and proclaim yourself a victim? No job for you!
Exactly!!! Men and women need each other for survival support and love. I don't get how America has forgotten that over the years.
It's probably due to the people writing said characters are porn addicts. A lot of this crap can be linked back to porn if one to look on the X profiles of these people.
That's the problem. They think everyone is at least bi at minimum but social norms have repressed it. This is the act of the sex obsessed who resent their limited dating pool trying to actively recruit, all while screaming that nobody can be influenced at all in terms of their sexuality so they aren't doing anything wrong. People aren't psychologically immutable; the influence and elevation of aberrant sexuality to virtue status IS having an effect on children everywhere this stuff is pushed.
@@turntoyou I agree. The amount of people in the US identify as something in the LGBT community skyrockets every generation and statistically speaking it’s just bizarre. The media and social norms definitely impact whether someone considers themselves LGBTQ.

Almost like there's something uniquely good and useful to humanity in the union of man and woman, but we can't have that. Oh no.
Being a mixed race woman I always hated the idea that I need a character to look like me in order for me to like it. One of my favorite characters is Sokka. I'm not a man, Inuit, or proficient with a boomerang. Yet I still identify with him. I don't need to be represented in every form of media. And just because the character looks like me doesn't mean I'm gonna like them.
That's because you're a normal human being, whereas the people who say stupid things like that are bigoted narcissists who project their issues onto everyone else.
Growing up, the character I identified with was Luke Skywalker. I'm not a man, and I'm not a blond farmboy from the desert--but I identify very much with being expected to do things the "experts'" way, overthrowing expectations, finding one's true power in love and truth rather than in the Approved Skills, and defeating the narcissistic monster by just saying "no".
It really feels like tumblr kids grew up and wanted to get paid to make their gay fanfics, found out people outside their queer echo chambers don't want it, and are really upset that they aren't getting called back
That's exactly what happened. DC kinda started it when they'd do the occasional "representation" bit for no other reason than clout. Batwoman and blackwater Wally West come immediately to mind, but it was Marvel who really started getting the ball rolling by bringing activists and bad fanfic writers into the industry. Around 2014/2015-ish,they wanted to bring in new audiences, so they tapped YA novel/slice of life writers amd writers and artists from places like Tumblr. They basically used some people's social circle on Tumblr and Twitter as the basis for their hiring pool. Whisper networks started forming because the Tumblr crowd was always toxic, and they pressured the right people to hire more and more of their buddies until they just took over the industry and either pressured the veterans into exile or submission. That's the best I understand what happened anyway. Half or these people ruining western comics are literally just stereotypically bad fanfic writers whose idea of a good story is to turn everything into self insert slice of life stories that doubly serve as ideological propaganda literature.
Animation and Hollywood have been going through a similar thing, likely mainstream music too based on the recent massive drops in quality lately. It's an ideological pandemic at this point...
At this point they deserve the suffering they get. They invaded the space, ruined everything that drew fans to it and now are pitching a fit no one wants them there.

Pretty much every new character that DC and Marvel Comics have brought out recently has been LGTQ and whatever but the massive problem around that is that every new character can't be shown in a negative light in the slightest, therefore, the characters fade into the background and most of them are created by bottom feeders who are basically just terrible writers and because of that they have no chance.
Remember when one of the New Warriors was literally chubby adult Dora the Explorer complete with magic backpack? And that was a couple years back, it's only gotten less creative and more nonsensical since then...

Why don't these muppets get together and make their own comic book company and release as many comics about gays and trans and whatever else, if its such a big market they could corner it and make mega bucks rather than ruining already established franchises to include their nonsense
Because they don't want to make comic books, or any other kind of entertainment, they only want stages to preach from. They see media as nothing but a means to spread propaganda - either their's or their enemies'; there's no other option in their minds.
They don't because they're either propagandists who want to use the established brands as a platform for their agenda, or they're creative hacks and clout chasing posers who think that they will become popular if they can just write whatever bad stories they want with established characters with name recognition under the misguided belief that they can absorb fame, popularity, and success through osmosis or proximity without the need to develop skill and produce quality. (The obsessive completionist collectors who will buy new issues of a partichlar book no matter the quality and for no other reason than because it's that thing they like enable these grifters.) Neither group actually like these characters. They want to control them because they either see them as cultural conquests for their ideology or an easy springboard to something bigger with more clout. I love many superhero movies, but this is a direct consequence of their former popularity and cultural dominance over the last 20 or so years. Mainstream popularity attracts grifters and ideologues who are drawn like moths to the flame of whatever happens to be in the limelight so they can ride it into the ground for their own selfish clout chasing or ideological purposes.
Very simple: They believe success is a matter of luck, not effort. They live in a culture of patronage and privilege, having earned very little of their own throughout their lives (or having been taught that failure is the Worst Outcome Possible rather than just a learning opportunity), and that the only way to make things "fair" is for those who have succeeded to give (or be forced to give) to those who have not. It colors their economic policies, their social ideas, and their political agendas. It also corrupts any religious ideas they might have swimming about in the rainbow-colored welter of unexamined impressions that passes for their opinions (for example, redefining "Father" as "Sugar Daddy" and then rejecting God when He doesn't deliver them from having to pay their bills).
I think Wess hit the nail on the head. They did this in video games too. It is not that women don't play games or read comics, but the types of games or comics they enjoy are not the same. Saying the segment who plays candy crush is equally crossed over with Elden ring or CoD is a lie. Yes, women play games but by the numbers it is mostly mobile. In comics back when you had actual diversity in comics there was more than just superhero comics. Superhero comics just became the best genre after all the legal crap. Manga sells because it has something for everyone. They arent trying to shoehorn Seinen concepts into Shonen manga and vice versa. You have horror, romance, superhero, martial arts, painting, slice of life, FUCKING FISHING! There is even a short series that was made an anime about an office worker who is a foodie that enjoys eating out after she finishes her shift. She explains what she enjoys about the dish in a manor that could fit on the food network and the art is done really well. A show like that is fun, and it exists because people want to see it. They're sucessful because they dont chace the mythical modern audience. These lies are perpetuated by talentless frauds who are desperate to be something in life. The only thing they've ever done is be a pain in the ass.
And the real shame of it is...they lack the mindset to even improve. There are people who have been in the comic book industry for nearly eight years now that have not improved an IOTA. If anything, most of them have actually gotten WORSE at what they do! They didn't have anyone to challenge them or correct their behavior, and they just...coasted on down the slope of declining sales. It's the worst thing about it, honestly: that these talentless hacks never even TRIED, or even had the inkling to try. I used to see fledgeling creators who really weren't all that good spread their wings and become greats. They had mentorship from the greats, and a work environment that fostered creativity rather than paranoia. It was the best feeling to see somebody BECOME great, because nobody starts that way. Now, we've been robbed of even that pleasure. They've broken the industry at its very core, and then wonder why they don't get more work. The flywheel has halted, and there's no way to restart it. You'd have to build a new one from the ground up.
I agree, Marvel and DC needs to add more trim to the comics, preferably with less clothing if they want me to start buying their content again. Also they will have to pull out ALL of the ESG degeneracy they've put into their comment. I'm not buying ANY comic where they retcon the comic to turn a straight character gay. I'm not buying any comic where they advocate for communism &/or turn a formerly patriotic hero into a german from wwII. I am not buying any comics where the artist draws bean mouth and couldn't draw an abdominal let alone an eye.
Real professional female artists were at videogames where they can do what their instintcs tell them: VARIATIONS at concept art or story lines. The failures that can't get actually hired by their talents were at comic books. Now the actual artists are doing comissions and the hacks are EVERYWHERE.
Exactly. There is a reason I am bitter about Stephanie Brown getting canceled as Batgirl, but that was before this woke nonsense and because of a idiotic editor-in-Chief.
Some titles are shifting back. The current run of James Bond 007 has him as a drinking womanizer and an excellent story concerning an old Cold War weapon that has been stolen. Welcome Back 007!!
The world may be close to even with the gender split but the market for comics isn’t that way and over representing people definitely is not the solution. It won’t bring this huge group of fans to the product. Also by over representing the 13% they won’t get all of that group to read their comics and they definitely will lose more fans than they’d ever gain. I’m so tired of this over compensation because of the past. They can’t naturally increase the representation to ACCURATE levels, it must be overly represented and falsely portray the population.
I just came back from reading A manga called The 35 year old Magical Girl It was fraking hilarious It had more storyline for a comedy than Captain Marvel
This is what happens when you remove talented writers/artists (Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, and other stars left). Now they're gone and you have these people that shouldn't even be writing comic books in the first place. They sacrifice plot and replace it with a political tone, or downgrade the main character of the book to try and prop up a character nobody cares for. I can't grasp why just about all fans can see this but the corporate big wigs can't. Look at the Energon-Verse. Its a total masterpiece and the only books I read on a regular basis. quoting Geeky from an old ass video: "These people don't wanna write their own original stories and heroes, they want to write themselves into the comics and stories they like"
Can you even say they like these comics/characters?

I’m gonna have to disagree with you on the novel you named; from what I understand, the MC acts without any moral compunctions in pursuing her “love interest”, and the plot separate from the romance is not really all there, there’s no world building to justify a revolution in the story.

Old enough to remember when Marvel and DC still catered to straight white males.😢
My 18 year old niece reads manga and all her friends do
CBR is still around? What is it now, hobby writers that are catering to the 3 people that read them?
How can that writer identify the women characters and creators?
Is he a biologist?
Uh CBR needs to put their glasses on.
Nothing can be wrong (sorry couldn’t resist)
Didn’t they just describe the majority of the customers who buy American comics?
I’m straight, white and male and sick of all this pandering.
Marvel And DC When a Female Character is Good Written:🤬🤬🤬🤬
Marvel And DC when a Female Character is woke and Sjw:🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Superhero comics had a good half century run but it's done now. Time to move on.
Poorly written women is the problem. Watch Frerin Beyond Journeys End for how to write female characters
Pretty sure they write bad women on purpose, in hopes of pulling girls in and ruining their mind 👎
It's like complaining that Power Pack had too many kids.
I just came back from reading
A manga called
The 35 year old Magical Girl
It was fraking hilarious
It had more storyline for a comedy than Captain Marvel
Uh... not anymore they're not.
This is like
When Coke Cola changed their recipe back in the 80s and everyone hated it
Only Coke was smart enough to change back.
To quote ItsAGundam....
"Hollywood is Dead
Watch Anime Instead"
This is what happens when you remove talented writers/artists (Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, and other stars left). Now they're gone and you have these people that shouldn't even be writing comic books in the first place. They sacrifice plot and replace it with a political tone, or downgrade the main character of the book to try and prop up a character nobody cares for.
I can't grasp why just about all fans can see this but the corporate big wigs can't. Look at the Energon-Verse. Its a total masterpiece and the only books I read on a regular basis. Talented team, they understand the characters and universe, and old/new story elements are mixed perfectly! People want to read a good story, not the crap I described above thats being produced from DC
*Years of turning many characters gay*
CBR: STILL TOO STRAIGHT!
Comic book fans need to grow a spine and push back against this stuff, stop reading comics you know are crap, I’m only reading old stuff
I used to own a Comic Book Store, for 24 years! It was SJW PC 'WOKE' Gay Garbage that put me out of business. And it wasn't the start of it. No one, especially me, had a problem with Obsidian, Batwoman, Northstar, Wiccan, and Hulkling being gay. My customers DID have a problem with Alan Scott, Tim Drake, Jon Kent, Wolverine, Iceman, Colossus, and Hercules being turned gay. Alan Scott especially ticked people off because his popular daughter Jade was erased by DC! My customers immediately dropped every Marvel and DC Comic! They went 'WOKE', but I was the one who went broke! In fact, every Comic Book Store in my area went out of business! You now have to drive 150 miles in any direction to buy a Comic Book now.
Manga > Marvel and DC comics
Fax
Come on girls, when are you gonna step up? Less Kardashians, more Swamp Thing.
Gay men and women want BEEF CAKE NOT CHEESE CAKE . Speaking as an openly gay man I want more MEN IN COMICS !!
There are plenty of woman, gays and diverse heroes in comics. But there are two problems with them. 1) They don’t get enough limelight.2) Their put into terribly written stories by inexperienced writers

First appearence of Megatron he fights Golobulus to escape Cobra-La, how is that classic again?!
It is amazing and the Joes can give a human element that we can care about.
Wonder Woman Mystique Carol Danvers Harley Quinn vixen etcetera etcetera I don't understand what they mean by there's not enough women bro there is literally an entire team in DC called the birds of prey and the Gotham City sirens
To quote the words of a guy with a family: "Oh my God, who the Hell cares?"
Are we going to keep allowing the idiots to completely destroy everything? 🤦♂️ we all realize all the canons will be completely destroyed and you can’t take any of it back right? Dammit
I've been a DC fan since I was 5 years old and I'm turning 60 in July of this year. I'm a collector of 1/4 scale statues and 1/6 scale figures so I have money invested but I rarely buy or bother reading any of the currently produced comics any longer.
DC Comics has such a immense back catalogue of books and stories that I won't run out of stories. Access is also made easier with digital content allowing access to book I could never afford. So screw the new woke white male hating comics! 🇺🇸
Can someone please explain to me, exactly what is wrong with being male and straight? Because am genuinely confused.
Straight men are the majority, that's why.
Patriarchy and heteronormatovity are why. It's an ideological leftist thing that comes out of neo-Marxism/critical theory where the only truth is power dynamics where the world is divided between the haves and the have nots, oppressors and the oppressed. Anything considered dominant and normative are considered inherently oppressive.
Nothing whatsoever unless you're an actual bad person.
Many people imagine slights and associate them to a certain object or people. That is the problem of these Wøk3 dummkopfs.
I'm willing to bet that bad experience with male figures like fathers have something to do with it as well.
“ if you don’t like my politics, don’t buy my book” y’all remember that we did that’s why the industry is shit
I don’t care if a comic has a woman, man, gay or whatever person as the lead. I just care the story is good.
When you see them driving full speed towards the cliff, let them go. New labels will spring up in the vacuum created by mainstream labels.
Well they are male brands and most men arent gay soooo
It's so annoying because for a decade, comics catered to that "untapped audience" that these people claimed existed and it is killing the entire entertainment industry.
At one point, there needs to be a point where these people need to develop self-awareness and admit that they were wrong.
To be fair, I wouldn't watch another video about the dying comics industry anymore, except that someone at CBR was supposed to release that article 6 or 7 years ago, but somehow it's been released now. Either that or the author has been in a coma for that period.
