- Modern gaming journalism -- and the AAA gaming studios it supports -- is burning down in real-time. As more gaming journos lose their jobs due to cutbacks and consolidation, they seem more determined than ever to take as many "chuds" with them on the way out...

Liberal journalists want to "change the world", problem is, they have zero world experience and took all their knowledge of the world from their Marxist college degrees. Their gaming comrades are no different, except they are considered even lower than tabloid journalists but have the attention of young minds so they spend all their time trying to "educate" kids into Marxist theory.
Would you consider using something like Dark Reader for those of us with light sensitivity issues?

Dozens of words had lost meaning like west western journalists marvel and more
Activism is no substitute for talent. There will be no legacy. They will be forgotten. Their numbers already show it.
Just another one of humanities hundreds of attempts at marxism. The term "woke" may even become the new favorite slur for the NEXT attempt, the same way "n@zi" was used by them. So much for "right side of history".
Oh, there will be a legacy. One of mockery and laughter when this era will be openly parodied for how shit it was.
Oh they will have a legacy but it won't be positive if anything they will be looked upon as an example of what we should not do this and why. Remember history is a tool to learn from it and what better way to learn from it is concrete examples of it.
In the future when this comes back up and these people try again to do this sort of stuff those who they want to corrupt with there dogma can look at history back to this time and go "Hmmmm nah i think we won't do this."
Their legacy will be that they destroyed an industry.
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid I don't think it's even entertaining enough to be parodied.
It's not like the gym tik tok girls which are actually funny when you do skits of them lol. I don't see how you can do a funny skit of an angry game journalist.
IDGAF about the layoffs. I'm actively cheering them. These people have done this to themselves. All the had to do was report facts. They didn't have to get into political bullshit, they didn't need to push agendas. THEY CHOSE TO DO THAT. Now they will reap what they've sown. If they go out of business because nobody wants their shit anymore?
GOOD.
To be honest I have no tolerance anymore for these game journos, they asked for it so they should cheer for it! 🗿
They hated gaming and even didn't know how to play games. I'm 41 and I remember - in 90's gaming was kinda niche, non-mainstream entertainment for kids and gaming journalist was bottom tier. Real journalists wrote about big politics, Hollywood stars, sports etc.
30 years forward gaming beat many entertainment industries, but these people still hate and despise gaming. Bit too late but it's time they leave and never come back.
The only aspect of it that I particularly care about is the AI portion. I do hate that companies are trying to find every way possible to replace people
with AI and that they use AI to essentially steal from others.
Other than that, these people are reaping what they sowed. I don’t recall the last time I came across work from these sites that resembled journalism.
@@piotrmajewski5978Ahh memories. The golden days when gaming still had it’s share of developers and publishers who did what they did out of their own love for gaming. Before it went mainstream and got so commercial. Now if we get devs that love gaming, they get teamed with publishers or even people within their own companies, who will mess with the final product.
Yep. They could have stopped sneering and taking swipes at _the paying customers_ any time they liked, but even when their jobs are on the line they'd rather spew spite at us than talk about vidya. Next time hire gamers and teach them to write, rather than resentful 'I'm too good for this job' Eng Lit washouts who want to waffle on that "I'm just pressing buttons and it means nothing".
Same is happening in Germany. The magazine "Gamestar" was once a good source of gaming info for pc players. Nowadays they play activists. They tell you how important LGBTQ representation in games is, what you should eat, which political party you should not vote for. It is laughable.
Except it is not important in games. Those woke activist women who are pushing it are not gamers. They are the fascists.
Yeah but Germans in general still don't get it. Development is several years behind.
That is a shame to hear. Why I really want to start creating my own stuff and think it's time others do the same as well. Take full advantage of this seemingly/currently crashing (course correcting?) mess of an industry. Being *extremely* careful of who we hire and work with as well.
Vote AfD!
to be honest, at least they still do their job together with the annoying activism. kotaku and the sorts cant even tell you omething about grafics and gameplay because they ONLY do activism.
They did it to themselves.
They did it to themselves, they did, and that’s what really hurts, they did it to themselves, they did, them and no one else… (with apologies to Radiohead)
They got what they wanted.
Obi Wan said it best "You have done that yourself!"
The funny thing is that it's exactly what they wanted the "trolls" to be silenced they got it the "trolls" stopped warning "Journalists" that they would lose the "trolls" and the rest of the people who are just as tired of the "Journalists" shit but did not bother to warn them.

Consumer activism really should be more of a thing. I don’t buy stuff from companies that clearly seek to take advantage of me, whether it’s disingenuous ads, fake gameplay trailers, stupid political posturing or micro transactions. Some people claim that means I don’t buy anything, but there’s so many games out there from companies that just want to make a good game. The difference between AAA and AA is rapidly shrinking.
Unfortunately, you and I are a minority. Most gamers, especially those outside the West, will continue to consume the slop that developers, publishers, and journalists feed them because they're either indifferent, immature, or spineless. These are the same people who think pirating these games is an acceptable way of punishing these groups when in fact they're only helping them with free publicity.

I miss the days of EGM, GamePro, & Nintendo Power when these gaming mags were made by gamers for gamers. As opposed to today when it's just failed mainstream journos who entered this field because they have no where else to go- but in the process ruining these sites.
I feel ya buddy. I has PSM, Official Xbox Magazine, Tips and Tricks, and whatnot way back. Was full go goofy men and women who clearly had fun, joked around, and enjoyed what they was doing. Always focused on games or if off topic, going on about other nerd stuff like anime, comics, and whatnot. Not filled with the vile toxicity and utter spite for gamers and the medium alike we see in "most" areas now.
But I think in the coming years, be it a decade or so, most if not all of this BS will course correct. We're going to see a LOT more of this going forward. Mass layoffs, shutdowns, restructures, etc. Hate to say it but this industry needs a Musk/Twitter-level kind of reset and cleansing.
@@gjtrue PSM was the goat.
I miss EGM. It was the most pro-consumer gaming magazine that I've ever read. I remember EIC Dan "Shoe" Hsu telling publishers in his editorial that they could kiss his ass when they threatened to pull ads from the mag because their reviewers are too blunt with their critiques.
Nowadays, journos are literally in bed with the devs.
I have a box full of EGM magazine, going all the way back to issue number 3 (the one with fabio on the cover...) up to around 2008 about. And while i may be missing a few issues here and there, I'm glad i put the effort into tracking so many of them down, the 90s were my main focus. This was over 20 years ago too, i had no idea gaming would go so wrong in the future. It is awesome to read through them now, see previews for FF7 and Ocarina of Time. Each issue got thick in the mid 90s, you can see how much went into it, might as well be hardcover books.
I have a few other random magazines as well from way back. Even a few catalogs for PC and electronics in the early 90s. I like looking back, such a cool time.
I want to point out the visual artistry and visual appeal of nineties magazines.
This video inspired me to look up an old magazine called Flux. It wasn't the modern Flux magazine - the one I'm talking about came from the mid 1990s, and that Flux Magazine revolved around video games, comics, music like metal, and topics that appealed to adolescents - the first issue had guides on "how to stage dive.
Anyway, I found the first issue on the internet archive, and jeez, the magazine is glorious. Every article I've seen had page layouts that look so awesome that the magazine itself could almost pass as an artistic work.
"Apathy is death." Kotor 2 said it best no one cares about what these journalists think. The few who care enough to listen do the opposite of what they want.
Apathy have no meaning anymore

I'm so happy that journos are losing their jobs

I find it ironic that these activists have polarised multiple generations of gamers and sci-fi fandoms.
I used to be very much "live and let live" in my attitude towards various cultural groups.

If the crash leads to grifters and money grubbers to leave gaming alone and for only people that are actually so passionate about videogames that they can't see themselves working on anything else it'll be a welcome one. It's not like we haven't spent over a decade telling journos to stop attacking gamers and AAA studios to lay off the anti-customer practices.
Why the hell would I be mad about layoffs? Everyone has been telling these sites that there's no money in not talking about games on a gaming website and you need money to keep paying a persons salary.
Dont give them clicks, dont name them no engagement get RUclips channel blocker they will die without you.
thats the thing.. All these youtuber (including clownfish) keep giving them attention.

Either you are one of the bad guys, and the company will be better without you.
Or you are one of the good guys, and you will be better without that company.
So now they use the "its just a video game its not meant to be real" and yet they lose their mind over attractive female character

Will say i miss the days of gaming magazines, that probably makes me really old, but they were such useful things, especially compared to gaming journalism of the now.
I remember during 80s/early 90s, I often visited this magazine store which is a very civilized trendy place importing all the US magazines. I was a kid saving my pocket money and bought the US gaming magazine. At that time, EA was just a startup. I loved those magazines and admired the companies, torn the pages and stuck to my wall.
Same, I used to work for Gamefan magazine, then Gamers Republic, and Prima after that. Those were the days
i used to have to buy the magazines to get cheat codes to unlock cool stuff. nowadays you have to money to unlock the cool stuff.
A review in GamePro magazine convinced me to buy the original Resident Evil and a PS1. No activism, no gamer bashing, no BS. Just a good, honest review. Those were the days.
I have ZERO sympathy. They spent years crappingnon gamers and calling them this, that, and the other thing for disagreeing with their “politics” when we usually were mad about pandering or censorship, and now they wonder why we went elsewhere and aren’t mad they are getting let go.
NO business can survive by not listening to its customers. You get what you effing deserve.

I missed buying game magazines and reading the end to end and I choose months that has free game demos. Now we are paying full price for a game that is not finish. Times changing.
I used to be subscribed to Gamepro during the 90’s. The writers of the magazine actually had a passion for gaming, unlike the anti gamer narcissists who are games journalists now.
The journalists should have taken the anger as a clue. People show emotion because they care. Now enjoy apathy as you fall into obscurity.
I remember in the early 2000's whenever my folks and I'd go to Wal-mart for weekly groceries, I'd head immediately to the magazine racks that were just around the registers, grab a pack of gaming and anime magazines, walk all the way to the back where the in-store McDonald's/food court was and just chill there reading and browsing through'em for like a solid 40-50 minutes when my parents were busy shopping.
God I actually miss that when at times I still thought of it as boring.
That was so long ago.
That big stack of gaming magazines reminds me of the ones I used to have. I miss those days when *men AND women* alike had fun playing, reviewing, and blabbering about the games they went through or if they went off topic, was still about nerd culture like anime or whatnot. Not like "most" of it is now that's infested with toxicity, activists, vitriol, and other "politically correct" modern-day nonsense. "Allies on the right side of history" and other BS that'll tear each other to shreds over the slightest/perceived mishap.
Speak for yourself, Kneon. I'm having a blast watching these fools lose it all.
It amazing this might even cure daddy Jim's cancer.
Oh we use to care. But it's almost like we were pushed well past the breaking point that we realized that nothing was going to change. Why continue to fight for something when you know there is no saving it? This is a demon of their own making. They created our apathy, and now they are paying the price. And if they think they can beg for us to come back, well they are about to learn that the hard way.
I never cared. The only good thing about gaming journalism was the magazines that had demo discs but you could ask at the shops and get the excess discs if the people at the counter were nice. I know about 3 gaming journalists names and it all comes from seeing their terrible takes in screenshots
It became parody to where I enjoy just memeing on the ridiculous takes, laughing about them, and seeing how bat shit the stuff they publish can get 😂

I like how they say that gamers DON'T care about the lay offs.... I for one am happy to see the AAA companies FINALLY reaping what they have sewn. It's only a decade or two off....
The Saints Row reboot is exactly why gamers don't have alot of sympathy for people losing their jobs in the industry... Volition knew what they were making... They knew they were destroying everything that made Saints Row... Well... Saints Row... And then these so called "journalists" did everything in their power to run cover for the absolute steaming pile that the reboot was, and threw "isms" and "phobias" at anyone who dared to criticise the fact that it was a DEI infused travesty, on top of being a generally bug-ridden disaster... Gamer's apathy to industry layoffs is entirely in response to years of the industry itself being apathetic to the desires of gamers, and the industry's general hostility to any criticism from the very people who buy their products, not to forget disgusting attempts at gouging money every chance they get for commonly sub-par products...
They knew this was going to blow up and working with a game consultants and game Journalist companies are all one in the same funded by BlackRock but they can't fund them forever and they know it.

Does anyone truly give gaming journalists any credence anymore? They've made themselves irrelevant.
Honestly most journalists aren’t that credible in my view just because they always talk about negative things.
They're coping! Coping and seething!
Paying the price for pursuing agendas.
the problem with the lay offs is its not happening to the activists its happening to those who legit care about gaming and gamers
Then we just have to ignore them for a little longer.
They gain almost zero fans from the young generation, and loose them everywhere else.
Uphill battle.
Then we continue to ignore. It's the companies fault for letting the activists remain and laying off the innocent people. It is not our fault for not listening to BS.
So go independent and stop selling out. Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and all these big corps buying out competitors you'll notice said such companies just quietly get shut down because the corps aren't interested in making better games they just don't want alternatives to their current live service ponzi scheme. They have to die for anything to get better, and devs that are at all capable will be in good positions once they do.
Gaming journalism is a shell of it's former shelf.
I remember Computer Gaming World

We will etched this era of what activism causes... the death of legacy and the true ire of society has against gamers. We are taking back what is ours and may go back to niche I believe.
EGM, PSM, Nintendo Power - god, I miss it all.
Sometimes, I re-read old issues of mine, and just stare in awe at all the stellar games being released around the same timeframe; despite the industry bloating to the point it has begun to burst, I rarely see one or two game releases a year that catch my interest now.
The beautiful visuals of gaming magazines, the exclusive previews, people sending in their fanart, fan mail.. Sometimes they'd come with exclusive content, like the Eon Ticket, or Demo Discs.
God, I hate everything surrounding the modern gaming industry.
Boohoo, there are layoffs in the industry…
THEY HAPPEN IN EVERY INDUSTRY! 🙄🤡
If they're seething, they're probably NOT coping.
Yep, I remember the halcyon days of receiving gaming mags in the mail every month and reading them feverishly. They told me all I wanted to know about the next big game or system or peripheral, and I saw nary a political/social justice hot take in any of them. Nowadays, you can't read or listen to a podcast with one of the writers/hosts railing against some they don't like (aka something they've been told to hate by whomever they listen to online or on the TV)... It's sad, really. The better days are far behind us. Hopefully, when gaming "journalism" collapses, we'll be able to go back to the times when we just got told whether or not someone thinks a game is fun.
The thing is, a lot of people getting laid off are the people the fans WANT fired.
They ruined out favorite IPs, called us names, and now DEMAND we feel bad that they are losing their jobs.
What did they expect?

My basement is filled with GamePro, SegaVision, Nintendo Power and a handful of EGM issues. I was never subbed to EGM, so I just have random issues here and there. Every so often I’ll pick one at random and go through it. There’s never going to be a time as good to be a kid as the 1980s and 1990s. I imagine everyone feels that way about their formative years, but I believe an objective case for the superiority of the 80s/90s. We had the EXACT right amount of technology. We had a Disney Renaissance. An explosion of indie comics. Everything was new and exciting; I don’t think any movie will ever be as big a jump forward as Jurassic Park. Every change is incremental now. Things just get more refined, gradually. We had the early internet. You didn’t have to worry about going to school. There were a dozen knew toy lines launched every year; and cartoons in support. Every Christmas there was a new console. GameBoy, Genesis, TG-16, Neo Geo, SNES, 3DO, Sega CD, PlayStation, N64. That was just ‘89 to ‘96.
Good times
Well said and agreed on all points. Actually had a conversation with my Mom about this once and she said she'd wished _she'd_ grown up in the 90's 😂
Please treasure your Archive , gentleman. There, you have a testament of not only long-gone higher standards but also (your) fine taste.
They made it abundantly clear that they did not like the industry. They spent their time attacking gamers, and pushing propaganda.
Now that no one has any use for them. Suddenly we are supposed to feel bad for the ppl who hate us and want to ruin our hobby...
I hope they enjoy living in their car.
Nothing of value was lost.
They forgot the simple fact. Gamers ALWAYS win.
It continues to boggle my mind that these people are confused about 'gamers' not supporting them during these trying times. How can someone be so disconnected from reality.
How did we get to the point where gaming journalists and actual gamers are mortal enemies? It's like Cosmopolitan hating on women. I'm a diehard gamer and I cheer when they fail.
Cosmo str8 up said a guy with implants and taking hormones is enough to be woman of the year
Communist activists infiltrated the industries. They're now collapsing.
Game Players mag was my favourite the humour was right up my alley haha
I guess they will have to do actual work now. Poor babies.
Good riddance. Some of the sites had gotten too preachy, attacked fans, and refused to review games due to "moral convictions."
Actual gamers ARE winning! 👍👍👍♥
Well I’m not an idiot but I don’t care about the loss of jobs for game developers and these stupid journalists. The good people have all been run off a long time ago. What was left was a bunch of idiotic activists, that think people give a shit about their political opinions. They had no right to work for these game companies or for these “gaming sites”. The writers back in the good ol’ days of Nintendo Power, EGM, Tips and Tricks, Gamepro and others actually wrote about video games…not once did they bring their opinions into the stories. They would maybe say a game had a problem but it wasn’t about the content so much as a glitch issue or the game being too linear. These fake writers/urinalists however have to make everything about stupid woke shit.
Even if there isn't activism any big name game is going to try to make you gargle as many battle passes or dlc as possible and they'll charge you a premium for the honor of paying for every little piece of their game as well. Are we supposed to be upset the people trying to nickel and dime us aren't doing so hot?
@@jishani1exactly! Yep I 100% agree. I stopped playing games for the most part when I was in high school over 2 decades ago and have played here and there in my 20’s with roommates, but it definitely has not been the same since the pre-online gaming days. It’s crazy how they gouge people now. I see mortal Kombat is a huge offender with absurd 15-20 dollar COSTUMES…and they look hideous for the most part. It’s impossible to feel bad for companies like WB when they do shit like that and make garbage like suicide squad full of woke messaging. They act like you should feel so bad for these idiots making this shit and writing about it, when they’re the problem with modern gaming.
The only way they learn is if they get no trafficking and no one pays attention so they go out of business
Don't even buy any western games. Let all the leaves burn so a new tree can grow.
Can’t grow trees on a dead land it’s over for western gaming
For me the holy trinity of hobby magazines back in the day was EGM for vidoe games, Wizard for comics, and Dragon for tabletop rpg. Oh and while I was at the hobby store i always had to pick up the monthly issue of Starlog magazine as well for all things sci-fi tv & movies. All excellent publications, all of them unfortunately now deceased.
There will be more acquisitions gaming sites to come. The journalist did this to themselves I'm not shedding a tear.

Gaming journalism was worth the cost of buying a magazine subscription.
Current year gaming "journalism" is not worth the paper they're not printed on.
