Gotta love it. Bring a 700-horsepower 7-seater Cadillac Escalade SUV as prices on gas rise to historic levels, while discontinuing a cheap and efficient car that people might actually start to want. As cars go thousands of dollars above MSRP and owners suffer with 7 dollars a gallon fuel costs, having a 15k car that gets great gas mileage would be great timing by GM.

This is quite the mistake I feel on GM's part. I have a 2017 Spark and love it. With everything going up in price, I really don’t understand why they felt the need to discontinue it. SUVs aren’t everything like what GM thinks. I see quite a few of these on the road.
Manufacturers make very little profit on small cars. The profit is made from SUV and Pick-Up sales. The sales #'s on these weren't to the level where they felt they could make profit if they continued to make this small car.

We just purchased a 2022 LT . Went to a dealer 65 miles away to pick it up. Even though it was bought to be a town driver,we were very pleased with how this car drove down the highway coming home, and we got 46.5 miles per gallon. It's really too bad the Spark won't be available anymore.
I bought a 2019 outlander GT and a mirage G4. With 10 years and 100 thousand miles I have no regrets. I didn't need a truck or a large SUV. All I needed was a great econobox and a good crossover SUV. I really like your channel because you don't let your popularity get to your head like other car RUclipsrs. You do your work and research thoroughly and take your time with videos which I appreciate a lot. Keep it up.
@@matthewreed1078 2019 GT is a whole different beast. It uses a Mivec 6b31 and a 6 speed twin clutch transmission. I dodge a CVT like hell as they are unreliable. Unfortunately manufacturers have given in to it because it's easy to produce and cheap to replace for them. Sad to say the conventional automatic is going out.
We are getting a 2022 2LT with all the bells and whistles in about two months. We’ve had our 2019 for 3 years now and have absolutely loved it. No problems out of it, just want to upgrade from a 1LT to 2LT. Gonna keep it for a long time as some owners have gotta 300k plus miles out of them with regular preventative maintenance
I'm on my third Spark and love them. Traded for new every other year, actually got one for 11k and the next one for an even 10k new! Got my 2020 for 12.6 off the lot. They were about the only car with a timing chain instead of belt and manual transmission. My first one made 45 mpg on the interstate at 70mph. fully loaded with luggage and ac. I regularly make right at 40 in town with the 2020. I don't push it on acceleration and when lights go red I throw it in neutral and coast-sometimes don't even have to stop at light, goes green before I get to it. Shame on Chevy for discontinuing a delightful little car. Now as for spending a bunch more on a Trax, no thanks. I go to your competition next time Chevy.I
@@brich2929 manual transmission for sure. Had to look around. I test drove an automatic but it made the motor race before upshifting and on downshifting. With the manual I control thr rpm's and shift at a more reasonable time, better for mileage too. I get about 38 city and can get into 40's highway. I don't rush to get to speed and if a light goes red up ahead I just throw it into neutral and coast, lots of times I don't have to stop if light goes green before I get to it..
Having owned a 2004 Saturn ion and now a 2016 chevy Spark, my opinion is that GM can use some critical thinking lessons when they stopped both brands. GM had the auto industry topped with the Saturn brand only to scrap it and let Ford take over with… junk. Now they have a second chance with this little “diamond in the rough”. I have drove my Spark now for 17,000 miles from 40k when I purchased it to almost 57k showing. Winter driving - I purchased dedicated directional snow tires, had them installed and was able to go in 8-10 inches with little problem. Now to watch GM fail to Toyota.
At age 76, it's mind boggling to me how much these cars have retained their original value, after three years of use! If they only have lost hundreds or even a few thousand dollars, why would anyone buy someone else's used car, when they could buy new? Plus, the used car buyer still has to pay thousands in sales tax again, on the same car!
It's because dealers don't have vehicles on their lots. People don't want to trade in their old one then wait 3 months for their new vehicle to arrive.
I'm a 47-year old car guy. I recently rented a Spark on an out-of-town trip and was really happy with it! It was surprisingly comfortable, drove great on the highway, and I parked in some hilarious spaces!
Gm is making the same mistake Nissan made discontinuing the Micra, and Toyota did with ending the Yaris. There is a huge market for small, economical, simple cars.
When I was in the market for a car, I narrowed my choice between a 2020 Chevy Spark and a Toyota Yaris. I decided to get the Spark. The Yaris has already been discontinued. I was sorry to find out that the Spark is also going away. It is a nice car for the price.
It will was probably cheaper for the Spark, but the Yaris is going to last you way longer and be worth more when you sell it. The Spark is going to be worth dirt.
@@RT-mm8rq You may be right, but Consumer Reports rated the brakes on the Spark much better than the Yaris. They said the brakes on the Yaris were a "letdown" and only gave them an average rating while the Spark brakes got an excellent rating. That's important to me because I almost rear-ended someone with an old car that did not have very good brakes.
i bought my brand new 2020 chevy spark at only 9k, mid trim, has most electrical goodies like windows and 6 speaker radio etc etc. manual 5 speed too, so i wont be having transmission issues any time soon, engine is really solid aswell, seems like it wont have reliabilty troubles at all unless electronics burn off. great deal imo. i love my spark

I own a 2019 spark LT. Manual. I bought it before biden won election. I payed a little over 13k (taxes and fees) here in southern California. I seriously love my spark. The manual makes all the difference. I get 43 to 45mpg. The rated mpg under sells it. I recommend this car. GM is silly to rid of this.
I have a 16 manual, I love it it’s my get to work car , a paid around 13k with extended warranty, Chevy is dumb getting rid of this car it’s the best bang for your buck :) i only bought it cuz of the 5 speed
I got the 2019 spark LS manual. It was 11,800 with taxes out the door. What the hell is GM thinking getting rid of their most economical and fuel efficient car(gas powered) in the middle of record high fuel prices and an economical recession with sky high inflation.
We have a 2019 spark base model that we got for gig work like DoorDash that we started doing in 2019. Has been a nice little car. We have the CVT, gas mileage isn’t as good as I hoped but certainly not as bad as my Dodge Challenger. We get 25 to 27mpg driving around the city and for a trip out of town it got 38 mpg. With the rising gas prices I have been driving this car daily much more often and still doing gig work. This car has become more valuable to us in our time having it. Didn’t really anticipate I would be driving it as much as I have or I would have gotten some options on it like power windows and power door locks lol. I might trade it for the 2022 Spark before it goes out of production if I can actually find them on dealer lots..
What? I never thought about buying a Spark, but them discontinuing them is stupid. This is the perfect time for them to fill car lots with them instead of $70,000 pickup trucks.
On some recent trips to Las Vegas, I rented various vehicles including Chevrolet Spark, Malibu, Impala, and a Nissan Versa. The Versa felt like the worst value. It had no personality and even less performance. Bland, boring, barely beats walking. But the Versa has a bit more grocery/ luggage space than the Spark. The Impala, Chevy's biggest sedan was my biggest disappointment. I expected to be rewarded for the extra money, but it felt cumbersome and had to be persuaded to do everything. It had plenty of power but it didn't exhibit any will (unlike an old RWD V8 from the sixties that would launch hard with fundersteer whenever you just tapped the gas). The Malibu's cabin layout was not as friendly as my daughter's Cruze (but it was better than my old Cavalier). The 2020 Spark LT promised little but pleasantly delivered more. Not a Cruze, but didn't feel a need to penalize you for going cheap. It doesn't constantly remind you that you were driving a CVT in stop n' go driving (way better feel than the Versa CVT). Alas, there's no room under the Spark's hood for a turbo (just a wish, not a need).
Used to be whoever makes the best value vehicles wins. But for now whoever makes the most vehicles wins. So it wouldn't be logical to shutdown production of a vehicle line, especially fuel efficient ones that are sure to sell above sticker price. But if a manufacturer is suffering from production limitations then they have to cancel their cheapest vehicles and cannibalize the parts for their more expensive vehicles.
That's a great point but I was thinking with car demand high, availability low, less people having children and in the midst of a recession, you'd think an auto manufacturer would use one of their lesser brands to release cheaper compact cars. That might mean lower profits now, but I think there's many ways the brand could capitalize later.
Some people thought I was nuts to buy my 5-speed manual Spark in 2020. No one's laughing now and it's worth $7k more than I paid. My Ford Festiva has been knocked into 2nd place in the "Favorite Car" category.
Chevy Spark is still relevant in the Korean Market thanks to being the smallest class with a low tax bracket, low insurance premium, and easy to drive. Base Korean version features 1DIN head unit, steal wheel and manual gearbox. Plus, GM Korea claims that 5 human can fit inside this tiny car and gave five seat belts.
@@stinkfiish You really have to emphasize on the legal part of it as it only can fit three small children. However if you want to be best friends with someone you can fit them
I am following you from Saudi Arabia. Chevy Spark, here, had no rear view camera or parking sensors. It was an excellent car for the purpose it was built for. However, its price was higher than its value. Hence, the last model year was 2020, thanks to Chinese cars.
Wow, after seeing so many positive comments on the Chevy Spark I am encouraged. I purchased my 2022 Spark LT1 the end of October 22. I’ve only put 2k miles on it in two months but I’m happy. My commute is mostly freeways, I was expecting to be running mostly in the slow lane but this little car has pep. Comfortable and great gas mileage. Looks good too. Overall I’m happy.
I have a Chevy spark 2017 LS automatic. I get 39.7 miles to a gallon. I’ve never had a problem with the car I change the oil when it is needed I rotate the tires. I thought the car is a very good car for the money I paid 15,500 brand new. I think Chevys make a mistake doing what they’re doing I think they need keep it going.
Upset to hear this cause my first car was a Spark and I loved it! I've been planning to get a new one since I got into a bad wreck with it but I was safe and only came out with bruises. I might get another one anyway even though it's discontinued.
I like the practicality and styling of these cars, but after the reliability issues I had with my Sonic I sold it with only 75,000 miles which was extremely disappointing because I took really good care of it. I wouldn't buy another GM except maybe Camaro or Corvette. I absolutely despise the Trax; I do valet and drive pretty much every car on the market and the Trax might be the worst one. It's like GM and Mitsubishi are competing with each other for the "scary tin can" award.
SHAME ON CHEVY FOR DUMPING THIS GREAT MODEL!!! 😡 And the fact that it could also be bought as a relatively inexpensive all-electric vehicle makes it even sadder... 😢
It’s really sad. This is one of the last basic cars with a manual transmission. Not everyone wants a damn SUV and most of them are automatic. I also love Nissan Micra, Mazda2, Honda Fit, all discontinued 😢

Enjoyed the video. Those shoe box size cars are not for everyone. We’re not young anymore we got tired of falling into & climbing out of our Ford Focus. Sold it & bought a don’t laugh it’s paid for 2002 GMC Yukon XL. We sacrificed fuel economy for comfort, there’s no need being miserable while driving. The price of new vehicles is insane. It’s going to get where the rich & famous will be the only ones buying them & maybe the not so rich & famous will be able to buy a used one
I just want to say my girlfriend bought her base model 2017 Chevy Spark new for $10,000, it's a manual transmission and it is actually a great little car. It's 5 years old and has 60,000 miles and is still running very strong with routine maintenance. It gets over 30mpg city driving, 35mpg on highway.. The cheap plastic interior is gonna get thrashed but the actual mechanical aspects of the car are sound. And with it being a manual transmission with very little computer input, I can basically work on almost this entire car from home without needing a mechanic. Plus it's been a great car to show my girlfriend how to do some basic mechanical work on her own. Parts are also pretty inepensive. I'm 6'5" and she had the car when we started dating, I was a bit bummed at the size of th car at first, but after moving to 3 states, many, many road trips and it being our daily commuter car (+ rising gas prices) I am actually really glad she had this car. Edit: It also has crank door windows and no automatic door locks, and honestly I'm glad because that's just more stuff that would probably break considering the price of the car and the cheap parts used for he interior. As long as th engine is good, that is great. I hope it lasts us a good long time. Knock on wood!

I am Canadian. We own a 2015 Spark, $60 to fill up. Our local Chevy dealer obtained a used 2016 Spark EV, if GM hadn't stopped making them I'd buy one, the Bolt is too big for city driving and parking lot spaces. I am not sure what we will replace our Spark with.
Read the room GM, not everyone can afford a $20,000 car or more, or even needs an SUV. I personally have the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and I absolutely love the thing! I also traded an SUV for it. I applaud Mitsubishi for understanding the need for these economical compact type cars, not everyone needs all the bells and whistles, but mine has just enough plus it gets amazing gas mileage, and has a 10 year warranty. I also know the reliability for these types of cars is there as well. This is really dumb on GM’s part as far as I’m concerned.
Bought a 2022 a 1 week ago today. Up to 800 miles, average of 36.7 mpg mostly city. Had to get the CVT due to them no longer being in production and no manuals avaliable in my state. The CVT is alright. Still getting used to it, but it's definitely comparable to a NA miata with more tech and of course fwd. Definitely not disappointed, the handling is absolutely insane. Highly impressed.
SO pissed because I had my Spark all spec'd out the with what I wanted. Then I get a call one week later that they can't get it with the 5 speed. That was one of main selling points for me, there's really nothing similar out there and I don't trust the longevity of those CVT transmissions.

I am very thankful for this video we just looked at a brand new Chevy Spark we were thinking about getting it because you can Plateau those cars if they're manuals. You probably saved our buttocks
I'd say the biggest concern with Chevrolet is with their transmissions though, and these cars come with manual variants which will be much more reliable. Don't get automatic and definitely don't get CVT. Even Toyota is struggling to wrap their heads around CVT transmissions. Have a 2010 Chevy Traverse that was very well taken care of. The only issues that came up aside from transmission were 2 power steering pump failures, an oxygen sensor failure, premature wear of its first timing belt, and a battery that stopped holding a charge. All the buttons still work to this day and it didn't have any real issues last I had it running. The SUV is not on the road anymore because it's 6 speed automatic blew out at 138k miles. No weird problems or behavior that suggested it was about to go prior to its failure outside of the occasional rough shift. Was just pulling out of my neighborhood and the transmission exploded while going into 2 gear. Started sounding like a blender in there and I lost power to the wheels. The transmission was consistently proving to be a nightmare with the traverse. It had to be serviced 4 separate times prior to finally going out. Tl;dr: The reviews and comments on videos like these suggest that you should be fine getting a spark as long as it is a manual transmission variant.
@@Mika-ph6ku Chevy isn’t struggling to wrap their head around technology as much as they just refuse to spend an amount per vehicle to produce a quality product. They could if they wanted to, but they always think that they can get away with falling a little short.
I got mine in 21. So far it's been a good car. I now have 25K on it and the infotainment screen just went dark on me. It still works, you just can't see anything on it unless your in the dark. This is not and issue with the Spark per se but an issue with touch screen devices across the board. It just went out of warranty last month so of course I'll be screwed getting it fixed. The basic car is still a good mechanical device, but I've read a lot on line about various GM vechicles with stupid amounts of electronic issues so althougth I like the looks of the new Trax I doubt I'll be buying anything GM again.
Can I just get my old 5spd geo metro agaim with manual windows and a heater. That thing got like 45mpg and for like $75 you could drive it 1/2 way across the country and I paid very little for it. You could park it everywhere. I just want a small get around car for errands etc so I don’t have to drive my oversized work trucks everywhere. Why are we discontinuing all the small cars? Do I have to import one from Europe or Asia?
I loved my manual spark but the cvt in the automatic is garbage. Mines about to have a 3rd one put in, because thankfully the '14 and '15 come with an extended warranty on the transmission. I can't wait to get rid of it.

Really no cars were selling at the time. So definitely look at the market, see what going on around you
I have a chevy sonic rs hatch, the sparks bigger brother. I love it, especially with these gas prices i spend less than 150 dollars a month with 6 dollars a gallon. I was lucky enough to buy it in 2020 so i paid 11 for it. I see other sonics going for almost 20,000 for a LS trim with 100,000 miles

I swear GM's Mary Barra is trying to run the company into the ground. Chip shortage aside, sales of Buicks are terrible. Cadillac sedan sales are way down (have you ever seen ANY advertising for the sedans?). Most advertising is for the Cadillac Lyriq. You can't even buy it yet and the cost is going to be north of $70K (just try to find one in the 60's). All Chevy SUV's are rated inferior to their competition (Traverse, Blazer, Trailblazer, Equinox and Trax). Nobody rates the Silverado above the Ram or F-150. When is the GM Board of Directors going to wake up and see what is going on?
I just got mine a 21' LS. I've owned and driven plenty of high performance cars over the past 10 years and I got to say in terms of fun, this thing is up there with them. Its nimble, turns very well and yes this thing makes 40MPG which is an excellent drivers car. Mine is the base model but still has plenty of creature comforts, spacious cab, NICE radio, and air con and heating, not much more you can ask for.
How can I like this, and hate this review at the same time. I have a Spark. It should be named the Lil' Flame. It has good city mileage, and low up keep. The acceleration may not be the 3rd best in American made cars, but what can you expect people?
The Starting MSRP is not $13,600, the base model of this car starts at $10,398 CAD, if you buy the bare bones, no options manual with the $1800 freight charge, the car is only $12,198 CAD before taxes.

It's the end of June, 2022 and I can't recall seeing one of these on any Chevy dealer's lots, tho they do advertise them in their print ads (loss leaders?). My guess is that if you see one of these Sparks it's as a rental car rented by someone who can't/won't spring for the upgrade.
Check the YAA channel, they go over car supplies at dealerships. Basically the dealers can't get vehicles from manufacturers due to supply chain issues. So the dealers increase prices per vehicle.
Typical timing for GM! Kill their small affordable high mileage hatch as gas prices soar near $7 a gallon.
Lol, no kidding
People are stupid and still buy 11mpg trucks. Nobody buys simple transportation anymore.

This is quite the mistake I feel on GM's part. I have a 2017 Spark and love it. With everything going up in price, I really don’t understand why they felt the need to discontinue it. SUVs aren’t everything like what GM thinks. I see quite a few of these on the road.
@@dustbin5044 or they'll get a horrible deal at dealership getting financed. Fixing an old car takes cash that not alot of people have on hand

Manufacturers make very little profit on small cars. The profit is made from SUV and Pick-Up sales. The sales #'s on these weren't to the level where they felt they could make profit if they continued to make this small car.
Big mistake by GM to cancel the Spark. GM does not want to compete in the entry level market. GM should go out of business already.

We just purchased a 2022 LT . Went to a dealer 65 miles away to pick it up. Even though it was bought to be a town driver,we were very pleased with how this car drove down the highway coming home, and we got 46.5 miles per gallon. It's really too bad the Spark won't be available anymore.
Good for you! 👍
I bought a 2019 outlander GT and a mirage G4. With 10 years and 100 thousand miles I have no regrets. I didn't need a truck or a large SUV. All I needed was a great econobox and a good crossover SUV.
Cool!
I go to your competition next time Chevy.I

so you have the manual transmission model?
@@brich2929 manual transmission for sure. Had to look around. I test drove an automatic but it made the motor race before upshifting and on downshifting. With the manual I control thr rpm's and shift at a more reasonable time, better for mileage too. I get about 38 city and can get into 40's highway. I don't rush to get to speed and if a light goes red up ahead I just throw it into neutral and coast, lots of times I don't have to stop if light goes green before I get to it..
I don’t know who’s paying 30k for a used car but that’s funny as hell 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the feedback
I bought a 2021 spark new. It is very underrated. Really reliable and smooth riding car!!
At age 76, it's mind boggling to me how much these cars have retained their original
value, after three years of use! If they only have lost hundreds or even a few thousand
dollars, why would anyone buy someone else's used car, when they could buy new?
Plus, the used car buyer still has to pay thousands in sales tax again, on the same car!
It's because dealers don't have vehicles on their lots. People don't want to trade in their old one then wait 3 months for their new vehicle to arrive.
@@PatriceBoivin new vehicles are arriving
I'm a 47-year old car guy. I recently rented a Spark on an out-of-town trip and was really happy with it! It was surprisingly comfortable, drove great on the highway, and I parked in some hilarious spaces!
Gm is making the same mistake Nissan made discontinuing the Micra, and Toyota did with ending the Yaris. There is a huge market for small, economical, simple cars.
I have a 2017 Chevy Spark hatchback. I love it. Especially when gas went up, it only took an extra $10 to fill up on 87
I love my 2021 Spark! Cheaper to buy new with a warrenty than a used car without one and more miles.

I got the 2019 spark LS manual. It was 11,800 with taxes out the door. What the hell is GM thinking getting rid of their most economical and fuel efficient car(gas powered) in the middle of record high fuel prices and an economical recession with sky high inflation.
@@huckleberry4438 gm's mary barra is under the influence, be sure of that!
My manual one was great too, but the automatic has a garbage cvt. Mines about to have a 3rd one put in. It messes up the gas mileage too.
I’ve seen these everywhere in Taiwan where they’re sold as the Daewoo Matiz.
Some people thought I was nuts to buy my 5-speed manual Spark in 2020. No one's laughing now and it's worth $7k more than I paid. My Ford Festiva has been knocked into 2nd place in the "Favorite Car" category.
Where did you find the spark for $13,000 ? Because everywhere I've looked they over $18,000
Yeah I'm wondering why used sparks are more expensive than new?!?!?!

I like the practicality and styling of these cars, but after the reliability issues I had with my Sonic I sold it with only 75,000 miles which was extremely disappointing because I took really good care of it. I wouldn't buy another GM except maybe Camaro or Corvette.

How rare is the 2LT? I never see them used even going back a few years.

I am very thankful for this video we just looked at a brand new Chevy Spark we were thinking about getting it because you can Plateau those cars if they're manuals. You probably saved our buttocks
I would automatically think the Spark is a low quality car because it’s a Chevrolet, not because of the low price.
😂

@@jeffb.6642 The base model Spark comes with manual windows and locks, and no cruise control. I got the mid-trim level.
@@jensotube MSRP is above market right now. Got a base for $16,090. Couldn't afford gas in my current car so had to do it. Worth it in my opinion.
@@SMD-si7fm Awfully late but better than never I suppose. The fools learn eventually through suffering 🤣
Not a very smart move GM . Gas prices are high, inflation is high, people could use more affordable and thrifty cars.
im happy i live in canada because the spark is selling like hot cakes here....our dealership cant keep them in stock....ppl dont want these over priced crap boxes everyones selling they want cheap low cost fuel efficent small cars.....for once north america with the no one wants cars bullshit was wrong
What about the Toyota Corolla?
Isn't the corolla msrp over 20k? Corollas will obviously be far more reliable than any of the cars mentioned in this video, but the point of this video was to highlight the cheapest cars on the market today. The corolla doesn't compete in that role.
Idiots at GM to kill off this car with gas prices they way they are! Lucky me I have a 17 Spark LT and 19 Spark LS super car with all safety features plus great gas mileage & super reliable nice looks too..Chevy just continues to kill off their cars as a Chevy loyalist I just bought an 06 Monte Carlo so instead of looking forward I am going back.
I drive a 21 spark and drives fine...
I ordered a new stick shift Spark just before Memorial Day. Still waiting for it.

"cvt transmission" - be aware
Most people aren't auto enthusiasts and just want an affordable new car with a warranty to take them to points A and B.
A Chevy Spark must hit that spot for a lot of people because they seem pretty popular.

I can't believe Chevy is going to scrap the spark with gas prices as high as they are and invest that money into SUV's! I guess consumers haven't been beaten down enough at the pump, maybe once they are paying 160 dollars for a tank of gas with their SUV they will buy more economical vehicles!
Naw, they'll just keep bitching about gas prices and buy the gas guzzlers 🙄
Makes me sad as a Spark owner. It's a great car, and if they kept it on they'd own the subcompact market. Toyota already nixed the Micra, and the Mirage is garbage

To those who own these after the cancelation. You might get a bang for your buck if someone wants a cute car like this.
I love my Sparkie! I bought mine in 2017 brand new $9,999 CDN right off the lot.
Everyone buying SUVs. Smart parents buying their Children Corollas/Civics.
I'm an adult and purchased my own Honda Civic.
@@JulezWinnfield Hell yeah brother
@@JulezWinnfield I’m 29, I bought a 2020 Corolla sport because my moms 1998 Corolla lasted 880k miles. Just oil/belts/fluids/tires/Door handles.

It didn't last to 1,000,000 miles? What a piece of crap Corolla🙄
@@JulezWinnfield Sarcasm?
Awesome video!
Won’t get anything at msrp.
I appreciate you talking bad about my car it's a great car it's good on gas and I love it
