As a professional mechanic since 1969, mostly Honda dealerships, I bought a 2022 Bolt EUV for the simplicity and ease of maintenance. I HATE working on my own stuff! I charge it once every week or so and have a special deal with Alabama Power that lets EV owners get a reduced rate from 9PM to 5AM. Of course all clothes, dish washing, and drying occur during that period. Just turn 'em on when I go to bed. Even my water heaters have timers on them to only heat during those hours. Remove the floor in the "trunk" and it will haul lots of groceries. 99% of my around town driving is done in it and all charging here at home which amounts to around $1.50 a week for power. I don't travel in it. I bought a 2020 electric KTM dirt bike in 2020. Dirtbikes are money pits of maintenance. Now, 3 1/2 years later, people ask what the maintenance is like. My response is "I don't know". Haven't done anything but tires and a chain. I LOVE my Bolt!!
Fair and great review. THe EUV is way more spacious for driver and front passenger than the EV bolt. 260 ft-lb torque makes this little beast a little hill climbing monster. Instant torque any time. We have a 2022 EUV premier. giant sunroof, auto wipers headlights, adaptive cruise, navi, heated and cooled seats. what else do you need? Great around town and commuter car. also a 2023 EUV LT2. $30,000 - (7500 moneyback) makes this $23K car a fast little comfortable speedster. We charge both with a 10KW solar =FREE driving. Any questions? :)
Chevy dropped the price of these Bolts pretty much equivalent to the total of most all rebates. Around $7,000. I have heard a number of Bolt reviews praise the car for it’s “Fun factor” when being driven. The owners seem to love them universally. Perhaps their expectations are more grounded. Also, owners that have received new batter packs are given the full length warranty, regardless of the age or mileage of their car prior to replacement. Clearly not gouging. Money in the pocket.

I recently took delivery of a base model 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV and love it! I do not agree with much of the content of this video. First of all, the base price on my car was $27,200. The only option was dealer installed "all weather" floor mats for $175 which are a necessity here in winter and farm boot land. Add 995. destination charge and I paid a total of $28,370 (+ tax and plates). This is a great car for that price. And installation of a basic garage charging point (varies by your particular home setup) is included in the price. I disagree with several video comments such as dissing the steel lower battery shield, much stronger on our gravel roads than aluminum, and many more. The Bolt has over 200 miles on a charge. We will use it for instate travel in-state usually charging overnight at home, saving miles and fuel on our diesel farm truck and Subaru 2nd car. It's fun to drive once you get the hang of it. Sarah may be cute and entertaining but not a very useful EV reviewer.
That's where the optional subwoofer and also optional supercruise computers are stored. I think that the cavity is that shape because it's easy to stamp. FWIW there is enough room to store a full sized spare under the flat floor in the back and I and other Bolt owners do this.
Thank you for reviewing an ordinary "affordable" car. Prices are SO inflated in certain segments tho. I can't get used to that gouging! This is a fine $24,000 car.

We bought a 22EUV in July and love it. Selling points to us vs the EV were the standard lvl2 charger plus install, backseat easily handled a rear facing car seat, and it was available. Those first responder stickers under the hood are not really for a vehicle fire, they are for first responders when responding to a vehicle crash or collision. If the vehicle is actually on fire, no one should be close enough to see the sticker.
The EUV has a longer wheelbase than the EV, and hence a better ride overall. Thanks to the large "cash allowances" (which GM has built into the price of the '23s), you can get a Bolt EV for under $30,000, assuming you can find a dealer that isn't marking them up a few grand.....
Agree entirely with the EV being better than the EUV. I've had a 2017 Bolt Premier for a few years now and it's been amazing. $15,000 would be saved in 5ish years over a half the price gas car thanks to the lack of necessary maintenance and much lower per mile cost. Chevy Spark 0-60 is >10 seconds. It has half the horsepower, less than half the torque, and gets less than a quarter of the average MPG of the Bolt. Sure it's half the price, but it's less than half the car. The Mirage has similar specs to, but gets better mileage than the Spark. Still half the car for half the price. Charging my Bolt takes 10 seconds (outside of road trips) I just plug it in when I get home and it's ready the next morning. No more bi-weekly pilgrimages to the gas station. If you road trip often then the Bolt may not be for you thanks to it's very lacking 50kw max charging speed.
Most cheap cars have the same suspension setup .. My Honda Fit does. Chosen for low materials cost over all other considerations ... does pay some dividends with packaging though.
I remember driving on that highway when I was a kid. (I wasn't the driver of course.) Pear Blossom Highway, I think. Very fun ups and downs. One time we were driving in a thunderstorm. Huge bolts of lightning were dropping in the desert around us as we drove along.

I just stumbled upon your channel and I'm surprised how well done your reviews are, they clearly aren't paid marketing "reviews". The left segment is great as well
I work for a tier 1 supplier to GM, Tesla, Rivian, & Ford. Trying to keep the prices down right now is a huge challenge with the supply chain issues still going on. My company is raising prices again on components because our cost keep going up, especially on chip driven parts. So don't count on prices dropping anytime soon with these vehicles.
For now i'll keep driving my Toyota RAV 4 Hybrid AWD that gets 44-45 mpg on any road trips. 38-42 mpg on short daily drives. Until EV's come down in price and charger infrastructure matures.
@@joeysluzer1913 What many people don't realize is that you can't get the HD rear view mirror on the EV and the 3" of extra space behind the front seats adds a lot of storage to the car because of the flat floor. The ride is nicer too because of the longer wheel base.

The cargo difference is 0.1 and the EUV has a larger space under the floor in the trunk. EUV is also higher up with better sight lines. Also subjectively looks better. The Kona, without the federal tax incentive which it lost, is over 12K more ($42,500) sadly. Definitely not worth the price difference. I had a Kia Niro EV and its range was similar real world to the EUV.
There is this mythology that people do not like their EV's or do not want ot buy them. I think that is not the view of most people. The main issue is that there are not enough charging stations and that stations that do exist are not reliable enough.
The only thing that makes the euv desirable over the regular bolt in my opinion is the 3 extra inches you get in the back set. I’m 6’2” so that extra room for passengers is sometimes I see as a courtesy.
smoke and flames would not be coming form the engine bay, there is not much burnable there. it would be the giant battery under the back half of the car. Once that goes there is not much stopping it. I love my bolt EUV.

It's literally the Model T for the EV movement. An extremely important car to get the masses to switch from gas to electric. Sure, the range is an issue. But if GM can make it reliable, they'll have a massive sales winner on their hands. Unfortunately, it's a modern-day GM product. So, not going to hold my breath.
I don't like the comparison to a conventional car. It completely ignores the benefits of a better ride quality, lower emissions, lower cost of running and maintenance from an EV.
The Chevy Equinox EV that is coming will bring a whole new option to the entry level EV market. Better range than the Bolts, faster charging and much more options inside and out!
@@crappyslippers6917 Your comment has aged well. With the Blazer EV being introduced at 60k, GM's announcement lower trims will not be available at previously promised 45k, the "30k Equinox" will likely be shifted toward 45k territory, leaving the recently announced Bolt revival for the 30k price point. At mid-20's (after tax credit) the current batch of outgoing EV/EUV's may be the least expensive electric vehicles we ever see. Not a bad deal for anyone who doesn't need charging speeds greater than ~50kW.
I bought the 2022 Bolt EV 2LT on Labor Day and love it so far. Today, I decided to take off from a traffic light and the other cars in my mirror looked like they were going backwards. I haven't experienced that feeling since driving my 1993 Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo in 1995. It would go 0-60 in 4.9. I am extremely pleased with the way this thing accelerates. It's quicker than my 2006 SLK350 Mercedes that I've driven for 14 years, but it's not a hardtop convertible so I have to keep the SLK. I love them both and plan to drive the Bolt most times and preserve my old SLK. Notes: No Homelink in the Bolt, in spite of all the tech. Must use a clicker. I drive with the ONE-PEDAL option which uses the motor to slow the car instead of the brakes. In your brake test, you should try using the one-pedal and the brake combined, and you'll be surprised. Plus, the one-pedal regens the battery when it slows down. No NAV in the EV, but available in the EUV Premier (I think). Anyway, you can use the Waze app and sync with your iphone. I like that better. I think they have a Map App,but I prefer to use Waze. No spare tire available in the EV or EUV. But a fix-a-flat type of option is available at a cost. Thanks for the review as I enjoy all Bolt reviews, and they are all a little different which helps a lot.
GM CEO Mary Barra said they were trying to aggressively drop the price of EVs. They did beat a Tesla 3 by like $10k (starting). I agree though... they should all be the Bolt EV, and maybe bring back the trim level designators. (Can't remember Chevy's, but Pontiac used S/SE/SSE for increasing trim levels.)
Re.. the U. The only reason I bought an EUV over a Bolt EV was because the extra inches in the rear seat means that my son's car seat fits better in this car than in my wife's actual SUV. For my needs as a dadmobile in an urban setting, it's perfect.
Here's the HUGE problem. If you run over anything that dents the battery pack, your car is totaled! My brother has a 2018 "regular" Bolt, it got the battery replacement recall early in the program, he took it on a trip to a friends off grid house which has a rough dirt driveway (road). Somewhere in the journey he got a fair sized dent in the brand new pack. Chevy designed it so that it could be serviced, but they do not sell the outer shell and the inner cooling jacket, or the cell packs. Estimate to repair this damage was $33,000 usd. Waiting to buy a new Bolt to have the insurance total it out and pay him, eventually this damaged pack will fail, and probably fail in a very exciting way! Now back to finish the video, I hope you touch on this kind of event being a massive problem, or at least mention it in future EV reviews. They are not sustainable like this, and manufacturers need to come up with a process that doesn't cost so much when the battery gets damaged!
The near certainty that the battery packs in these EVs will have catastrophic failures in the event of a serious collision or roll-over is the elephant in the room that few people want to talk about. There are reports of emergency fire crews having to stand back at a safe distance and just let a wrecked EV burn itself out - which can take hours and hours, shutting down the roadway the entire time. Despite the best fire suppression measures, the damaged battery will very often continue to re-ignite itself. Finally, after all the chemical/electrical energy is expended you're left with what is essentially a hazardous waste site to clean up. If this is the future of transportation, we are all SO screwed.
@@paulm749 and there's that part. The oxides contained within the cells combined with the fuels within the cells provide two parts of the fire triangle.

Interesting, I'm not a pro but I'm tired of working on my cars t o o. I didn't know dirt bikes were high maintenance.
One thing about "Fail. No hood struts." is that it also means no hood struts to fail.
Meaning, in a couple years or so, I won’t have to keep a pair of small locking pliers in the boot.
Big deal when they wear all you have to do is buy some new ones it's no big deal. Not that expensive either whoopty freaking doo
We chose the EUV for the extra inches in the back seat. We have kiddos in car seats and those extra 3” does make a difference for us
Chevy dropped the price of these Bolts pretty much equivalent to the total of most all rebates.
If you don't mind, show us your out of pocket receipts when you buy one (less all the rebates, tax and license) for $7000.
I have a 2017 with 100k miles on it. I love it.
@@SKarlsson - $7000 is the price reduction Chevy rolled out 6 months ago (actually $6,300)

One reason to go for the EUV is that you can order the panoramic sunroof, which you can't get with the Bolt EV.
23 Bolt LT2, i would love a sunroof, compromise
I have the 2022 Bolt EV 2LT and I love it. No regrets except for all the extra charges Chevy/Onstar throws at you for wanting to continue certain services. But function wise, very happy.
Agree I was trying to get an LT1 with the $500 rear traffic, was offered a lt2 for a little more $, love the added safety features and power driver seat, the leather is hot, though. Ventilated?
Love the semi-circular spare wheel well, perfect for storing half a spare wheel.
Half a wheel, half the weight!
one hole takes 1h to dig, how long takes half a hole?
Probably no spare tire, just a repair kit. Weight savings you know.
That's where the optional subwoofer and also optional supercruise computers are stored. I think that the cavity is that shape because it's easy to stamp. FWIW there is enough room to store a full sized spare under the flat floor in the back and I and other Bolt owners do this.
Odd they didn't make space for a full size spare when the room is clearly there
Why is no one talking about the fact that supercruise will cost a monthly fee after 3 years?
YOU ARE. Thanx 4 Intel.
Half way through, I like it. Lots of room to work. And simplicity too. and 200hp is a lot of hp for a compact car, always was.
Yes, but 3600+lb
Next time you lift it, you should lift it on the circular jack points. If not there is a small chance of damaging the frame.

Thank you for reviewing an ordinary "affordable" car. Prices are SO inflated in certain segments tho. I can't get used to that gouging! This is a fine $24,000 car.
Except it's not $24K. It starts around $35K but will get cheaper for the 2023 model year. However, if the $7500. tax credit previously available is reinstated, it will then be in your bracket.

I just discovered your channel; LOVE IT! I’ve watched what seems like countless videos on the Bolt pair of vehicles and your’s was the first to actually look at the car from underneath, and that commented on both the design approach and assembly integrity. I wish you had done a video on the Honda Clarity and Chevy Volt, which are both on my short list of electrified vehicles.
I have the Honda Clarity 2018 and love it to death. Unfortunately, it lost the CA HOV lane sticker and I am now looking for a new affordable EV. Anyway, if that's not an issue for you I would highly reccomend the Clarity.
We bought a 22EUV in July and love it. Selling points to us vs the EV were the standard lvl2 charger plus install, backseat easily handled a rear facing car seat, and it was available. GM also has a $6,600 incentive through 12/31/2022 before the official price drop on 1/1/23 so ours was just under 30k out the door.
That is a cool deal.. 6k , does make the car very nice to think about buying.. Was the 30k a standard EUV or the Higher one ? I thought the sellin was around 35k.
did it include convenience comfort and confidence packages?

I used to drive that 'roller coaster' road with a loaded truck back in the day. I love that road.
I'm curiious. You didn't say why you feel the Kona is better value. It has even less space than the bolt.
Because KIA/Hyundai are junk/garbage
The EUV has a longer wheelbase than the EV, and hence a better ride overall. Thanks to the large "cash allowances" (which GM has built into the price of the '23s), you can get a Bolt EV for under $30,000, assuming you can find a dealer that isn't marking them up a few grand.....
fiberglass or carbon fiber either way is stronger then plastic on it's own
Agree entirely with the EV being better than the EUV.

Make 17" wheels great again! I'm sick of new cars making 20's look small, despite having near minimum ground clearance compared to older cars.
Also the best fuel efficient size.
Nobody takes into account price of 20 inch tires. I would take 16 to 17 inch anyday
I agree! Twenty inch wheels with rubber-band thin tires look stupid, add a lot of unsprung weight and make the car ride poorly.
Less bent Wheels, BMW i3 wheels are quite expensive

@@mosfet500 True dat. I test drove both before buying the EUV. The EV is just so damn ugly in the front.
@@joeysluzer1913 What many people don't realize is that you can't get the HD rear view mirror on the EV and the 3" of extra space behind the front seats adds a lot of storage to the car because of the flat floor. The ride is nicer too because of the longer wheel base.

Got a premier EUV for $29,000 ($39,000 - 6300 GM Discount - 2500 State Discount - 2000 Uber discount + 800 taxes), if you qualify for the additional state rebate of $5000 then its $24,000.
Love this review over others. Keep up the great content.
Love your videos!
I prefer the styling of this over the Bolt EV.
I prefer the Kona EV over both Bolts.
EUV also offers ventilated front seats which help in hot weather. They work OK to avoid sweaty back syndrome....

It would be great, I said the same thing about my Fiat 500e, it would complicate pricing though
by the time i got one the entry price’s inflated to 30k thanks to dealers slapping “optional” upgrades on existing inventory and production stopping. Still no hesitation about picking EUV over EV due to legroom.
Not sure why most reviewers think this car should be like a Tesla for half the price. I bought the 2022 Bolt EUV Premier for $35,000 and I love this car. Not satisfied with the Qmerit side of the allegedly free 220 volt outlet installation though. They are scam artists.
Agree except I think the range is more than enough

Hey Sarah! Thanks for another great review. That "hairy" plastic under panel may be FRP, fiber reinforced plastic.
Hopefully we'll see the bolt mounted on the ultium platform and sold for less.

Notes:
No Homelink in the Bolt, in spite of all the tech.
The tires are self sealing so no sealer/inflated needed
Careful ... the tires will wear out if you keep taking off like that!
Chevy could've gotten away with naming it just the Bolt, with out the EV, because "bolt" is associated with electricity.

They are not sustainable like this, and manufacturers need to come up with a process that doesn't cost so much when the battery gets damaged!
wow, I guess there is always a hidden cost behind something cheep
Or maybe the driver should not use this car as an off road vehicle.
If I were the manufacturer or the insurer, I wouldn't pay a dime.
