Took my Honda in for service and asked them to look for a slow leak in the rear driver side tire. They informed me that the tire was unfix able and a new tire at $250+installation, balancing, tax, and tire disposal fee. I declined to be robbed and took it to my local garage, the tech found the nail in about 2 minutes, plugged the tire and charged me $6. I gave him $10 and refused change. They were honest, competent and have enjoyed my business to this day.

I'm with Scotty re: Kia...they are garbage and always having issues with fires. People who buy them always say that they've had no problems with theirs blah blah blah...but with all the recalls from Theta II engines to faulty ABS modules and all the issues that cause fires you'd have to be crazy to trust them with the safety of your family. Recently a Hyundai Tuscon (made in the same factory) broke down on the side of the highway by my home and burst into flames. There were 2 children in car seats in the back...if a good samaritan hadn't stopped to help the lady get the children out of their car seats, one of those children would have died. So why would anyone trust these vehicles?

The old Kia Souls with the conventional automatics were more reliable than the 3rd generation that came out for 2020 I think it was. My wife has a 2023 Kia Soul, the driver's window works but the other three windows most of the time they go down but not up. I already changed the master window switch once with a $100 genuine OEM part and it worked for two months and then it crapped out as well. Currently at 15k miles and the windows still don't work, last Kia dealer I took it to (Kia of Bridgewater) they scratched the heck out of the driver's door and I never went back. Now I'm in contact with a service manager at another Kia dealership that says it's probably sensing resistance as it goes up so as a safety it's cutting out the current flow to the motor. I already cleaned the tracks really well and still does it. Also the horn won't blow if it's too cold outside, if the temperature drops to freezing you got no horn.

I think Scotty is only talking about the ones made in the USA. The ones made in South Korea are bullet proof. I have one, not that I'm blowing my own horn, but there is a reason why they are the most popular make for Taxi operators. I wouldn't buy anything made in the USA, seems build quality and reliability is junk. Though I would be interested in a Silverado. The ones in Australia are rebuilt to meet quality and safety standards. Mostly made in the USA but built in Australia.

People take product engineering for granted, but it is challenging. Some companies like Toyota spend years making minor refinements trying to get things right. While other companies like Samsung send children to build things out of plastic, leading to house flooding washers and worthless refrigerators. One important engineering concept is you have to be especially careful when adding unnecessary features that when they fail bring down all the critical components with it (seat controls in this case). Some years back they decided to update older jetliners with screens on the back of the headrests. Unfortunately on one of the planes the wiring caught fire and it crashed in the Atlantic off of Canada.

We all rushed over, got the lady's 2 kids out of the car and tried to save all the toys & kids necessities. It was so sad to see.. brand new Kia and she just got custody of her little ones that day. 3:17 “vertical integration makes sense” which is one of the reasons Tesla makes constant improvements to quality and cost of its cars. Tesla is one of the most vertically integrated companies on the planet. Still, it doesn’t make everything it builds into a car, the windshield wiper motor being used for the cyber truck, for instance, has recently been at the center of a big recall. I heard that motor was made in Mexico, and not by Tesla. The problem may not have been with the motor, but with how it was being used by Tesla, don’t know, but this illustrates how overall quality can be compromised when the companies products, rather than built from the ground up are composed of parts supplied by independent vendors.
