- Sidewalls, where a roof abuts a wall, are potential leak spots and rot spots. Good metal flashing prevents these problems, including a specially shaped “kick-flashing.”
Great video and especially appreciate you giving advice to potential home buyers. We have had contractors work on our roof in different spots, as well as someone install our front door, and not one ever pointed out the lack of kick out flashing above the door. Earlier this month some of our siding started FALLING OFF because it was rotted so bad so now we're in for some big $$$ fixes. Ugh, home ownership can be a PITA.
Yes, as we all know, this is a little detail between the siding and roof. Some people do install a kick off flashing some people just put a straight flashing if the gutters is seal against the siding we always on the lookout for these little details so homeowner doesn’t pay big bucks in the future for repairs God bless🙏👷♂️🇺🇸🔨
Hey brother, sorry to hear about these mistakes that a lot of contractors and workers make on peoples houses, every house that I work on it always make sure we do everything properly so homeowners don’t have issues in the future and also if there is anything else that needs to be pointed out to be fixed when it comes to siding in windows issues, foundation cracks I’m always showing the homeowners even though my priorities to make sure the roof don’t leak anymore but I always check on everything so I can let homeowners know so nothing leaks on the house that will cause damage 🕵🏻♂️✍️ God bless, brother 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like ya attitude much love thank you for the tip
Great tip buddy
I've been stressing about this. So true.
Hey brother, God bless every job that I work on. I always make sure peoples home is watertight on every corners so they don’t have issues in the future even though I only work on the roof, but I’m always checking the whole house if I see anything I pointed out to the homeowner. 🕵🏻♂️✍️🙏🙏🙏🙏
ya guys, don't be stupid! love that! 😂
That was a big improvement, but water will still run down the outside of the siding. An inside corner flashing or “kick-out” would be a lot better so all the water ends up in the gutter. Just one extra cut and fold to the flashing, takes 2 seconds. Also starter goes under first flashing and use starter shingles, not 3-tabs, they cost less, the seal strip is at the bottom and it doesn’t create a bump on your second row. Also, starter should be nailed 2-3 “ inches up from bottom, not at the top.
The homeowner told me he didn’t wanna kick out flashing the Gutter . It was already tight against house and seal.👌 thank you brother God bless 👌
Give this guy a high five! Simple fix you can’t see can save your house from rotting away a on the inside.
Thank you brother God bless you, know every contractor or everybody that’s doing work on the peoples house must to do good and be on the lookout for anything that’s not watertight 🙏🔨🔨🇺🇸
Kick out, always.
And God bless you too buddy!
very good
Im waiting for the roofers to come back. Paid a out of money for a tear off and new roof and now gave water entering the house in a New leak. Company used subcontractors and the crew was short handed. Took 5 days for 23 square. The leak is where the 2nd floor meets an addition.
Hey brother, I’m sorry to hear about this new roof disaster!👷♂️ every time a roofer works on a new roof. He has to make sure he does proper underlayment and advise all existing flashing, so things like that don’t happen, I will pray for these guys, so they can come back and make it right God bless🙏 you brother👷♂️🔨
I would have put a kick out flashing piece there to keep the water from going over and in-between the gutter and the siding.
The Gutter it was already installed, and it was already sealed between the siding in the gutter, I do use kick out pieces,!! I’making myself it’s , but some homeowners prefer a straight piece on the siding for the looks 🕵🏻♂️✋🔨
They sell kickouts or you can make one yourself it looks way better if you use black tho to match the roof color. You should cut and fold so its at an angle dont do it this way no bueno.
Some homeowners prefer to straight peace just going down against the wall , we can make the vertical pieces but some homeowners don’t like it good looks 🔨🕵🏻♂️ 🇺🇸🔨
Just cut the top of the kick out really short, doesn’t need to be higher than an inch and taper it down to nothing, hardly noticeable and a huge improvement. Sometimes I also use a grey skylight flashing so it blends into the roof better.
If you're gonna have exposed flashing, use colored flashing. Do not use shiny flashing.
Hahaaaa-You almost got it right. At least the water will go between the wall and the gutter now VS inside the wall but its still wrong.
🤔 the gutter is sealed along the siding. I asked the homeowner to put a kick off. Homeowner said that’s fine. I have a like that for years. What can you do leave it alone, God bless brother 👷♂️🔨👏
They make colored step flashing!!!
Spend the extra 5-cents per piece!
Let me guess the homeowner told you he wanted aluminum fascia for drip edge?
Hey there that’s the way the drip edge looks like,we don’t use aluminum facia as a drip edge ! 🔨 aluminum facia we usually make in the break . The drip edge comes in boxes. ! God bless
Flat out sloppy. And you installed starter correctly under the piece of flashing and incorrectly over the flashing. If you are going to slop stuff on like that against the siding make it look nice.
Thanks for the tips, as you know as long as the water does go inside the house,, and outside the gutter keep homeowners happy God bless,,!🔨
That's awkward. I went to your RUclips channel, Travis, and I do not see a video of you performing the work you seem to suggest you can do better 🤔. A negative mind will never give you a positive life!
You dont do this like this..put baby twins as u go
Still going to run right in behind hahah muppet
🧐✍️🕵🏻♂️👷♂️ I never heard it from the customer and I know the water is not going behind the siding. God bless.👍🚀
