Shingle Roof - Kick out Flashing

- Опубликовано: 4 мар 2023
- Hello!
Welcome to Schoen Roofing RUclips Channel!
In this video we show how to fabricate and install a kick out flashing for a shingle roof.
This may be the single most important flashing in a roof system. If it is missed, water will enter behind your siding/stucco and rot your wall sheathing. This can go undetected for years and cause major damage to your home.
If you enjoy the video please share with someone who might find it helpful or entertaining.
Thank you for your support and enjoy!

Yes, this is the correct method. Just saw video from another roofing company, he folded over and nail the flashing down on the roof deck.
You are the only guy to have finally formed a kickout flashing correctly. 😂 I watch these others try to make them and they all fall flat on their face. I was making those just like you 40 years ago and it doesn't take a lot of skill ,just a little vision.
Ahhh thanks man! I also have see so many bad kick outs I had to share this method. Appreciate you.
Please consider showing how you would run vinyl j-channel around this.
That's for the siding guy to figure out 😂
Thanks for the awesome video! Best kick out ever.
Couldn't agree more!
Great quality content and right to the good stuff. Thank you!
Much appreciated!
That's a great way of keeping water away from the wall by diverting it....
Thanks for the comment Barry! Glad you liked the video.
Just what I needed this morning! I’m off to build one now!! Thank ya!!
Lol. Go get it!
Had my roof replaced 5 times and every contractor forgot to install them even when noted in the contract. Good for you, Missouri roofers are lazy af.
Hi Paul! It’s a very common mistake that untrained installers make. Thanks for the comment.
Just had my roof replaced and have a new leak where an addition meets the 2nd flooor. Its going to be a process - the company has a project manager that hired a subcontractor that hired a roofing team. The PM sent the subcontractor out yday and he put some caulk sealing the 'problem.' I didn't see any water inside but there is a drip line on the vinyl siding underneath the overhang on the addition from ydays rain.
Thanks!!!
This is an excellent video - thank you for producing and posting it. Do you have any ideas for gable ends where extended rafter tails prevent the trough from running to/past the edge of the roof? Can such a kick out flashing as the one you demonstrated be modified for such an installation?
Oh yea. Use this flashing anytime you need to direct water towards a trough.
Well done
Thank you
You're welcome

Appreciate the link to a good video. Very common for installers to miss this step.
@@schoenroofing I can't tell you how many missing or improperly installed kick out Flashings I've fixed over the past 25 years. It's probably well over 100.
Ok…. Great. Now make the siding look good around that. 🙄 Honestly, the best solution I’ve seen and now use myself, is a vinyl block that is installed with the the siding. Easy to install and seal, and looks WAY better as a finished product. The step flashing method works fine for wood siding, but not vinyl or similar products.
