Hey yeah expert, Will the graphics get better on the main disk because i downloaded the demo and the graphics are a wee bit Shite for gran turismo's normal work.
hey Mark, when you are breaking .. try to break as you would accelerate(with out the traction control aids) .. don't just smash the break paddle all the way in. you will stop faster and loose less time in sliding and locking up the wheels :) thanks for the review .. can't wait for the full game. We (your subscribers that do have a ps3 and a full game) should do a online race .. :) should be fun
Mark, your driving is very good. But there are some places that a little time on Eiger Nordward in GT5P could fix. Mostly apexes. The apex of a turn is usually found about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through the turn. The idea is to swing a little wide in the start of the turn, pull in and apex, then follow the line out to just inside the far barrier. It takes some practise to get it right, but it can really help.
Would you ever consider a review of Rfactor??? Or do you only review games on console and not on pc? If you do, I suggest to do it with a racing wheel.
Would they release the friggin full version of GT5 already?! I feel like it's been forever since I heard about the damage modeling...... probably end up as a PS4 launch title.
I was thinking of getting prologue but after playing this demo I think it's too hard I love the gameplay in GRID because it's not too hard and not too easy What should I do Should I buy prologue or avoid it?
@3:30 the cars spins out because a rear wheel was on the gras ^^ And oh yeah I hope that they will add Grindelwald again too because it really was an amazing track. I loved it ! Good Review 5/5*
Good review... one thing about your driving... you're early apex on every corner is hurting me. Wait to turn in at all until you're nearly done braking. And again, great review. :D
6:26 Looks as real as I need it to be to be honest. I loved this time trial. Since my PS3 is still busted I played at a friend's. You have a couple of seconds on me but I only went around the track like 4 times in each version of the car. GT5 just needs to come out already!
I have XBOX360, PS3 and an i7 with two nvidia gtx 590's... which is what I'm typing on right now, hehe. But what I really want to ask is what racing game should I get? I prefer to get a console based simply due to my preference for controllers + I just got a new LCD so it should look great either way. I'm thinking either Forza for the XBOX or Turismo 5 for the PS3... with the possibility of the latest Dirt for PC. I want it to be realistic, have nice maps/scenery and many good RACE cars.no honda
i downloaded ac 2 off another accnt on my ps3 but it said this content is expired because i had the ps plus trial and finished it. I had it deleted in rage. what should i do to make it playable. plz help.
whenever you pass your ghost - restart also it aint so hard to imagine you shaving off 6 seconds, you're doiing everything wrong! :D love watching these vids
If you're going to get a steering wheel I highly recommend the "Logitech G-25" as you can pick them up pretty cheap new on Ebay and they have full clutch functionality with "Gran Turismo 5" & "Prologue". You get an amazing feel with the dual feedback motors and your lap times will drop dramatically.
You're pretty good. ;) Keep it up Mark. I can't wait for the full game to come out because finally, I feel like a console racer is on the level of a PC Sim. I'm amazed, and can't wait.
That's fair enough. I've always felt GT had the "driving" sim edge while Forza had the "racing" edge, personally. I've always liked GT4 when it came to just hooking up my wheel and driving a few laps, whereas Forza 3's physics are respectable enough and the racing aspect has typically been more fun. I'm glad to have them both available either way. GT5 is going to be a monster, I cannot wait until we see the real thing.
That interior view is extremely detailed! Much better looking than forza 3, and it sounds like a really realistic game the fact its pretty hard to control with a gamepad. Makes me wish i had a ps3 instead of a 360!
Basically, first of all, you need to brake earlier, so you'll enter the turn at a lower speed, and from there, accelerate. It is a lot better to enter a corner at a low speed and come out of it in a high speed than vice versa. That would shave off about two, maybe even three seconds of your lap :)
You sir are absolutely correct Gran Turismo doesn't have to say much unlike games like Dirt Grid and Shift.Gran turismo has a name for itself and doesn't have to be over-hyped.
I bought my PS3 today and looked in the Playstation Store for this demo and I can't find it!!! HELP! I live in Canada and I'm hooked up to the Playstation Network! WTF?!
@EnglishTurtle no it's just a demo they made if i'm not mistaken it says in the demo it's still work in progress but it actually looks very good except the track it feels empty and lifeless like but i assume because it's a test track
1st tip - break earlier and more gently. any grip used to slow down can't be used for turning. 2nd tip - use all the track. it's there for a reason; the grip is where the tarmac is darkest. and thirdly, i might buy a ps3 just for this game
first on the corners with a coner shortly after turn in early so u can brake less hard and dont exellerate/brake in the corner.. take it just on the edge of coming off so without braking / exellerating all the tracktion is used for steering
I'm American, and GT 5 is definitely the best racing game there is. Other americans are too stuck on Forza and Need For Speed (not saying they're bad but yeah).
The demo is a quick slap-together job, to fit 200mb, so IMO it looks dull and boring. They should've made the disclaimer the visuals weren't final GT5 visuals. That said, this demo is tailored to wheels, so if you're not using one, you're not getting the intended effect. This demo was thrown together for a competition for contestants to get a chance at a real life race event, I believe. Sony just let it out as a public demo. Anyway that's my understanding of the story. Always fun reviews.
I did like 1'50'00 with the DS3, took about 2hours of playing and man its hard as nails. But once i got more used to cornering and accelerating and decelerating my times were more consistant so its all practice. Its my first time on a GT game since i wasn't into racing games during the Ps1/Ps2 days also :) but GT5 is shaping up to be the best racing game :)
@phil1818 This demo was only released for GT Academy. It`s not in the store anymore. And even if you have it, you can`t play it anymore because it needs an internet connection to start where it checks the current date. The demo was only playable during GT Academy.
@SolaceIX wrong, the fastest (stock) car on the nürburgring ist german (gumpert apollo) btw. the best car drivers are german and the best cars are german cars
You can 'drive' this demo with the sixaxis controler. Using the right stick for acceleration/braking, you can get reasonable times. You need to be carefull with the gass and the brakes (just follow the driveassist line ;o)
@Dudeinabox No it didn't. Special Stage R5 or whatever survived but R11 did not. Unless I'm confusing myself on the actual videogame itself. That was by far my favorite track.
This was really fun, but if you go faster than 60 the car cant steer at all it seems. And the racing line is misleading in this one, it doesnt really help at all when you compare it to the racing line in NFS Shift or Forza, where it is actually helpful rather than deceitful to where you are better off turning it off.
@NooberMan64 Unfortunately, it's no longer available, either to download or play (if already downloaded). It was a short lived Time Trial to find drivers for the GT Academy.
They should let this demo be played again. There is no reason to really take it off. I know the competition is over, but it dosent need to stop the demo. I wanna be able to play this while im waiting forever for the full version.
@ipodxdude , right exactly which GT are they using?, try asking Stephan sarrazin, or alex wurx, and how they described Turn 10, like race engineers, or how Mclaren, Ferrari, and Michellin work with T10, or how GM actually bought the tire physics from T10, or how the telemetry allows drivers/teams to use real data for analysis.
This "demo" is a time qualification event for GT Academy, not an actual GT 5 demo. Although this event might be a good representation of what the driving physics at professional setting in GT 5 will be like, there's a whole universe of features in the final game that aren't even hinted here.
I think, that you really hate menus in shaking with boost of energy drink.. :) You mention it quitly lot for last few days.. :D Merry Xmas from Czech republic.. Thanks, for your cool reviews..
maybe I'll give this a try. I refused to pay for the other demo, and I'd just about stopped caring about Gt5 since it seemed like 3D Realms took over doing the development. :p
They stated this was on an older build so the graphics were not up to par at all no. Check out some of the latest vids that aren't even direct feed and you will see the graphics are unrivaled. This demo was specifically for the GT Academy, not to showoff what the game is going to look like. Just wait, GT5 will blow your mind.
Dude, the game's probably coming to america in june/may of 2010. The japanese release date is a "solid" march 2010. And you should probably get the driving force gt if you don't need a separate H shifter. And as far as I know, this demo only represents the physics and the sound parts of the full game. So, there will be both damage and greater graphics when it comes out.
I hope they add the motion blur of the replays at least as comparing it to other racers on ps3 it loses the photorealism to a point this time around running at a blazing arcadish 60fps (hand cam speed) and every video I see, including this one, makes the game feel more real at 30fps then when actually playing it. 60 makes it abit robotic by revealing too much of the movement.
I have a PS3. So yeah, wild guess, figures. I know Need for Speed Shift was a wannabe sim, but all I said was I would like for the cockpit view in GT to be more dynamic (like Shift's). Doesn't mean I want it to be an arcade.
well i have a dualshock 3 controller. obviously with a rumble function. its a still good driving experience. u dont need a steering wheel to have a good sense of the track and car if u have a dualshock 3. ive recorded a 1 min 37.376 with it. but im guessin, obviously, the steering wheel will enchance the driving experience and improve lap times through smoother driving
I bought my PS3 at launch and the controller doesn't have rumble, they added it to later controllers. I shouldn't have to buy another controller just for rumble.
bizarre shading glitch @ 1:43
I love the shadow effects in the game! Now that looks like some intense realism!
are you steering with the D-pad? BTW I managed a 1:39.702 with the tuned.
I couldn't find it???
Is the demo supposed to be in the Playstation Store? Did they get rid of it?
Hey yeah expert, Will the graphics get better on the main disk because i downloaded the demo and the graphics are a wee bit Shite for gran turismo's normal work.
Is this demo still available? =/ I preordered the actualy game already tho :)
I like the sound intros to all of his reviews.
hey Mark,
when you are breaking .. try to break as you would accelerate(with out the traction control aids) .. don't just smash the break paddle all the way in.
you will stop faster and loose less time in sliding and locking up the wheels :)
thanks for the review .. can't wait for the full game.
We (your subscribers that do have a ps3 and a full game) should do a online race .. :) should be fun
I can't find the download in the PSN Store D: did they take it out or something?
are you gonna make a review for the full version of the game when it comes out?
Awesome review man! I always try to get better with my lap times, it's extremely hard to even get the times down to 1:35.
@jonkind its a 300mb demo, what do you think it will look like?
how did you download it? im on the ps3 store on the ps3s browser. and i have no idea how to work it.
Mark, your driving is very good. But there are some places that a little time on Eiger Nordward in GT5P could fix. Mostly apexes. The apex of a turn is usually found about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through the turn. Merry Christmas Mark! Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Would they release the friggin full version of GT5 already?! I feel like it's been forever since I heard about the damage modeling...... probably end up as a PS4 launch title.
Why were you still a Sixaxis? the DS3(with vibration) had already came out.
I was thinking of getting prologue but after playing this demo I think it's too hard
I love the gameplay in GRID because it's not too hard and not too easy
What should I do
Should I buy prologue or avoid it?
@3:30 the cars spins out because a rear wheel was on the gras ^^
And oh yeah I hope that they will add Grindelwald again too because it really was an amazing track.
Is that gran turismo prologue 5 or gran turismo 5
@ddmte I'm sorry I seem to have forgotten where Laguna Seca is, could you kindly inform me?
I have XBOX360, PS3 and an i7 with two nvidia gtx 590's... which is what I'm typing on right now, hehe. But what I really want to ask is what racing game should I get? @Marktheunholy the automatic version does.
@ValeriaThornton501
this on the pc??
Can i play this on 360?
I can't find it on playstation store :S
Is it just called gran turismo 5 time trial?
I can't find this demo track on the PSN is it normal ?
i downloaded ac 2 off another accnt on my ps3 but it said this content is expired because i had the ps plus trial and finished it. I had it deleted in rage. what should i do to make it playable. plz help.
You started comparing the GT5 to DiRT2 menus I was already laughing my ass off xD
how is it different, handling?
From what I've heard yes it does, although it the Time Trial does not have clutch support. But it does support the shift lights on the G27.
whenever you pass your ghost - restart
also it aint so hard to imagine you shaving off 6 seconds, you're doiing everything wrong! :D
love watching these vids
can you only drive the 370 on this track?
Exactly! Both games are excellent and well made. We should appreciate that there's two awesome racing sims for both systems.
For everyone looking for the Time Trial! They took it out of the PS Store a long time ago! It was only there for about a few weeks.
You're pretty good. ;)
Keep it up Mark. I can't wait for the full game to come out because finally, I feel like a console racer is on the level of a PC Sim. I'm amazed, and can't wait.
nice review. this just might make me buy a ps3. merry xmas by the way:=)

same :/
Can't wait ! CGR are so priceless =D
no way man, whered you check?? I have it and im in canada (196 combined time ranking btw)

either square or press back on the right analogue stick. you can alway go to option and configure the controls yourself
Great 'review' Mark :)
U forgot to mention one other important tough track. Special Stage R11! From the original GT. We need that as well!
Does anyone know if they kept the final standings of the trial somewhere like on the gran turismo website or something?
I'm American, and GT 5 is definitely the best racing game there is. Other americans are too stuck on Forza and Need For Speed (not saying they're bad but yeah).

Anyway that's my understanding of the story. Always fun reviews.
guys will gran turismo 5 still be enjoyable with a dualshock 3 ps3 controller? i cant afford 300 dollar steering wheels..
why is he still using the six-axis controller? USE THE DUALSHOCK 3 .. i played this yesterday and felt every bump
when is this game going to come out. i've been waiting for ever
I did like 1'50'00 with the DS3, took about 2hours of playing and man its hard as nails. @ldzod Its a course editor, not a track editor.
HUGE difference.
@PranksAreUs83 there is no free demo of this game
is this downloadable still?
Merry Christmas to you too.
@SolaceIX wrong, the fastest (stock) car on the nürburgring ist german (gumpert apollo)
btw. the best car drivers are german and the best cars are german cars
is this still on the psn?
i think the download for this demo was way too small. the textures and poly count on the track looked like they were toned down a bit.
What was the track he said he wanted back? The one in Gran Turismo 2.
You can 'drive' this demo with the sixaxis controler. Using the right stick for acceleration/braking, you can get reasonable times. You need to be carefull with the gass and the brakes (just follow the driveassist line ;o)

@BlueYoshiGamer
this is actualy not a gt demo or something
this is a 200 MB mini game
its a time trail for a commpetition of some sort

I'm wondering if there'll be a Burnout 6.
I like Gran Turismo, but sometimes it's fun to play a non-simulator racing game.

U don't LIKE super extreme detail? Good luck with the full gt5
DAMN I feel like watching an actual car moving!

Its available only in US store.. Not other region last I check.
SOMEONEHELP PLEASE!! ID LIEK TO DOWNLOAD THIS BUT WHERE AND HOW CAN I FIND THIS!? ps store or how ? SOMEONNE
the original ps3 controllers didnt rumble. Mine does cause i only bought my ps3 last year but if u got an old one, then it doesnt rumble

@ddmte I'll relax lol. I like the US vs EU discussions. I wasn't trying to sound angry or anything.
