- Part 1 of 5. Classic Game Room reviews GRAN TURISMO 5 for Playstation 3 PS3 from Polyphony Digital and Sony. The ultimate racing simulator returns for the full version of Gran Turismo 5, a PS3 exclusive with over 1000 cars, dozens of tracks, a course editor, online gameplay and much more. But does it live up to the excellent earlier installments in the series like GT2, GT3 and the amazing Gran Turismo 4? Pretentious menus and soothing music seem awkward and out of place but the gameplay is fast, smooth and ferocious. Level up to experience everything but prepare to spend half of your life doing it. Gran Turismo 5 is basically more of the same but optimized for Playstation 3 with HD visuals and silky smooth driving game play. Car brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bugatti appear in Gran Turismo as well as old favorites Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, TVR, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Buy used cars as the come on the market and modify them to supercar status, race in a variety of races or just challenge friends online. the loading times on this game are excruciating...
Try PGR 3. While I love PGR3 the loading times there are....shivering.

I have it set up to my favorite music. Now it blasts Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Mastadon, Opeth, and more! :)
can't wait to play this game. But for anyone buying GT5 at this day and age, be warned. Give yourself about an hour, because there are 14 updates!

I loved Grindelwald, that track was great.
Love the tracks in gt5, I just wish "Wrestle the car through every corner" wasn't the default.
And that turning off that mode didn't make most of the cars un-drivable.
And I hate that they took out the option to sell for credits the prize cars.
Now it's "give it away for free or keep it and never use it"
Not much of a choice being as you see the prize cars in used cars for hundreds of thousands of credits.

Damn right.. i bought the game this afternoon (was bored and needed a new game so XD) And it's at 13 of the 25 Updates and it's already 1,5 hour ago that i started the damn thing.... And it's pissing me the Fuck Off!!!!!!! Takes wayyyyy too long..

question. wanted to change tires in the pit stop after some laps and when i drive thru they are still almost white. new tires should be blue after the p.stop.

Excellent review, great game. I got it for Christmas 2010, but couldn't get into it after having been away from GT for years. But I picked it up in June 2011, and I played it daily till September. Even by then when I started to get burnt out on the game, there was still some stuff I hadn't finished. So much content and things to do, it takes a whole summer to beat it.

Seriously though, I can see why this took them so long to make. The graphics, sound and just the overall game are incredible. WAY better than Forza could do.

Going back I realized they had Comfort Soft and Sports Hard Tires. Haha. Using a wheel with huge force feed back and no way to turn it does was also the issue.

can u play your own music during driving in this game? like press the PS button and go into the XMB?

@shababsta Are the pixel jaggies referring to the jagged edges due to aliasing, or is it jaggies due to what is occurring in the game?
If it's due to aliasing, then change some settings (such as setting size of the screen, resolution, or tv settings).
If it's due to what is occuring in the game (such as alpha effects, smoke, etc.) then nothing you can do.
i think ive watched this full review like 10 times..CGR are just so entertaining! every time i dont know what to play, ijust watch this and then suddenly i wanna play GT5 :P

@TheZigZagg Do you know how much time it takes to model cars to the level of detail in GT5? These cockpits (and cars) are inch by inch exact to the real car. I'm floored they were even able to do 200 cars in the 6 years of development time. Still, I do wish they had a "shadowed out" cockpit like the PSP version or perhaps a generic gutted race interior for the standard cars as I'm not fond of bumper cams, rear cams, and roof cams.
When I reached level 14 the blue lines on the bottom of the road that tell you were to go and when to stop disappeared... do you know how to get these back?
i wonder if they will sort out the cockpit view on standard cars:/ hope they do..
When the game first came out it did take for ever to level up, but now i had to start over and maybe with 6 hours of gameplay im lvl 22 , the seasonal events gives you lots of xp.

in a hatchback race how come you can use a lotus elise in it?
@tehhkrmn65 if you put the MP3s on your PS3, you can select them and play them through the custom audio settings in the options menu. About time they took advantage of the audio functions of the PS3.
....or you can get the new 2013 edition with all the complete updates and dlc right off the disc?

This is quite simply the best racing game I have played, and I have played pretty much every racing game since 1995.
I LOVE THIS GAME I CANT STOP PLAYING IT! I ALSO GOT MedalOFHonor,AlienVSPredator,GodOFWar for christmas and bought this and Cabelas Dangerous Hunts and im addicted to this lol im LVL 17 Already

@normalguyhere Hello.I bought the Audi R8 but now i have a big problem :s. I tuned the motor only with the money i had and he was driving 330 km/h. But now i tuned everything and he only drives 290 km/h O.o.
Do you know how i can delete parts that i tuned or undo the tuning? Thank you!
