  • WBZ 1030 Boston - Larry Glick - 1976 - Radio Aircheck.
In New England, 1030 WBZ Boston has been a radio powerhouse for over 100 years. So many legendary names have graced the microphones at WBZ... Larry Justice, Carl De Suze, Dave Maynard, Dick Summers, Norm Nathan, to name a few. Also on that list would be the one & only Larry Glick. Glick was a one of a kind host, who just loved talking to people.
On this aircheck, you'll hear Larry host his overnight talk show on WBZ. This aircheck is from 1985.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008!
One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook: / ellisairchecks

I missed many hours of sleep listening to Larry Glick in the 70s. He was loved. He made us all feel like family.

I lived in Maryland and would catch him on the skip at night. Lots of entertainment for a kid growing up in the country.

Thank you very much for posting this. I grew up listening to Larry Glick. Many of those other names you listed from WBZ were familiar as well. Even with TV having been well established for decades, we still listened to the radio - Larry Glick, CBS Radio Mystery Theater, Music from the Great American Songbook on WNEW AM. Good memories. Thanks again Ellis.

Larry was a great guy on and off the air. I, too, have a Glick U. t-shirt. I spoke with Larry, by phone at length, when he retired to Florida (we were both broadcasters).
It sounds like this was a special Sat. afternoon show.

Larry was perhaps the nicest person in radio. He was a good friend too.

When I was in the service in the late 70s early 80s I bought a Teac reel to reel. I made a 2 or 3 hour recording of the Larry Glick Show. I still have the machine and If I can find the time I’ll find the reels. Really miss him.
    Loves this. Great job.

I know of no other talk-show host who took a phone call from an 8 year old - and engaged him in conversation.
And later, a sixteen year old.
Larry Glick is one of a kind.
It makes me sad that he is no longer around.

Eight-year-olds weren't as fortunate with Pete Franklin who ushered them off the air by telling them they were passed their bedtimes.

We used to listen to Larry from Baltimore at night. The signal would come in fairly well. He was so original. I used to enjoy him giving scores to games and when he would shoot callers off the air.

I once won a ‘Glick University’ T-Shirt on Larry’s show some forty or so years ago. Larry was really in his element on the overnight broadcasting to thirty-eight states. Larry’s peers were Long John Nebel, and Jean Shepherd I happily lost more sleep over these great broadcasters - they were all unique, and they all were on powerful stations and had national audiences. I’m glad I was around for this era of radio. Thanks for posting. Do you have any AC’s of BZ from its top-49 days?

I remember for years he tried to call Frank Sinatra and would open his show with Strangers in the Night, when he finally got to call him from what I understand Frank was very rude to Larry about disturbing him or something like that, from that point on no more Frank opening on his show.

How can this be from 1976 when there is a comment that refers to Roger Clemens of the Red Sox at 48:01

Sharp ears! I didn’t catch that! The guy who passed the audio to me had it labeled as 1976. Glick was at WBZ until around 1985, so this recording would have to be 1984 or 85. Thanks for catching that!

A comedian used Jimmy's name for a parody! He should've sued Him!

If you're referring to Martin Short's classic character, you are a little off. In fact, it has no bearing with the subject of this upload at all.
