    I can tell you as an over the road truck driver, their signal GOT OUT! I BELIEVE they were a 50,000 watt channel.

    All those sounders - plus the teletype SFX - dated to about late 1972, definitely after "Arthur Godfrey Time" ceased on April 30 of that year.

    Ellis, I assume WCBS was 880 on the AM dial. Any idea what their wattage was? Did they go to low wattage at night?

      They were 880. I believe they were 50,000 watts. At night their signal could be heard through most of the states east of Mississippi.
