Tbh the early 90's prduced my favorite metal music. The destruction of hair metal and the dominance of Grunge brought metal into a much better place artistically with much more experimentation. Melvins, Fudge Tunnel, Clutch, etc Fudge Tunnel is a great example of this era.
Well, thing is Eyehategod started in '88. Melvins in '83. The Tunnel didn't begin until '89, and didn't rise to prominence until closer to the mid-90's. I'm sure some members of those bands you mention liked them though.
