I've always found Palatine Settlements a really awkward card in practice. It's theoretically the equivalent of like, 1200+ wood, but in Age 2, it's very do-nothing. In Age 3, when you'll have a bunch of houses and can actually get a sizeable pop boost in one shipment, it always feels like there's more impactful Age 3 shipments you could be sending instead.
It also doesn't help that because of Germany's XP curve, you're also gimping yourself with the extra xp you get from building houses. If I were the devs, I would fuse it with Germantown settlers to make in on par with the US' German immigrants.
@@Toonrick12i think a way to buff it whould be a bigger house buff other than pop space. like maybe more house hp, more build bounty, cheaper, hell even make it send 1 or 2 house wagons
The other thing that makes Sweden better is that their upgrade cards are generalised. They also can get unlimited gold mines if it goes late which allows for some insane gold gather rates. Germany just has a 20% upgrade and the camps and honestly the camps are a questionable investment of a shipment. Sweden also starts with advanced arsenal, minus having it in age 2 unless you go up with the 900 food.
I like how u covered this one: you have not missed too much of both and still have focused on one which is very important, otherwise doing both or all the players coverage is absolutely a superficial and distracting approach. So thanks for doing this with much better focus on one thing ... I strongly agree with taking away from "cinema" style coverage of game and more strategy competitive assessment of one or max two but to do two one needs to switch very quickly and often to both and it's doable only for short games like below 20 min. I strongly suggest to go on one only like u did here more than other times... Thanks for this merc strategy,... I think it went also anti cav thinking that Hausa would have gone with their powerful raiding habit and units of cavalry. Very strong civ indeed the Hausa and well designed (sound etc)
This is a very vanilla strategy. Nowadays you can squeeze mercenary camps in this. What I am not seeing is germans going for the prince elector with habsburg. Really wanna see one going their.

Not really, Spies/Assasins are effective only on paper. In practice their damage (even with massive boosts against mercs) and relatively low HP means they get absolute swept away by high HP, high damage mercs. If something is really made to wipe mercs, it would be ninjas Japs can get. 450 damage per hit to merc, THAT is anti-merc unit. Not some measly 100 in melee and 52,5 at range, before resists come into play. And in order to have Assasins, you need a card. Which basically nobody, even in autistic 1v1 lobbies, ever carries in their decks because its bad AND dead card.
the idea of the card is to reduce mercenary population and to recruit an unit that can heal and attack, generally speaking healers or priest do a better healing work than the inquisitors

@@wolffiow9620 why would I go look gor a lobby? I play 1v1 ranked only. I can find a game in several minutes, all day every day with no problem. Pretty good for a 15 years old game you have to admit

And there are new metas and BOs with almost every patch. And new cards, units and visuals. Too bad you dont take notice

@@Widgie They aren’t mutually exclusive. Some mercs work better with some natives techs. Like any that reduces coin costs of units are pretty good.
I would point out that for US and Mexico, their outlaws overrule the map's outlaws. Meaning that you always have the same three outlaws on every map.

the card has no tempo and with Germany most of your other cards have a lot tempo
You need to send it second in age 2 to get mileage out of it. Realistically it’s going to save 600 wood + build time with how most 1v1s go.

Yes, the OG mercenariea civ (Germany) need a buff for more balance with the swedens mercenaries.

the "advanced mercenaries" card is the best merc upgrade and you need only one space in your deck for it
