First time I’ve seen this done. Very impressed. Will be trying it out myself. 👍🏻
Very informative, enjoyed watching vid, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Peter, I've got another on my channel making an angled one too.
This is stunning! Thanks a lot!
Brilliant work. I've always made the small ones out of mdf strips added to a ply door but these are a different class and will defo be doing these in future.
Thankyou bud, yea definitely try this next time. Send me a pic if you do. 👍
Thanks Ben
This is why u pay him the good money. Well done great work
Thanks bud 👍 🙂
Another top quality job 👍
Cheers buddy, should of filmed your flooring haha 👍
@@BNMCarpentry definitely mate it’s an amazing job and still going strong 💪
Just about to do two of these - wish me luck 🍀😬
Good luck fella. Take your time and use a nice sharp blade. 👍
This is/was a great video. ❤
What a fantastic bit of work. How would you approach a door for a cupboard under the stairs as the top rail wouldn’t be long enough? Use an offcut from the excess side rail and accept that the head rail would be smaller? (Guess what I need to do😂😂😂)
Hi awesome video I have just bought a oak veneer bi fold door and it needs 25 mm taking off would install instructions only recommends taking 5mm off bottom and top I’m presuming if I take 12.5 off both would just leave veneer off and perhaps making holes a little deep for the pins to go in to make the door fold … sorry for asking first time fitting a door lol 😂
Thanks Paul, are you needing to cut the 25mm off the sides or the height?
Thanks Ben
@@BNMCarpentry off the height the house is over 200 years old so tried to get the aperture as level as possible
Just cut it off the bottom, it will void any warranty unfortunately but as long as you seal the bottom it won't be an issue.
We have to do it all the time.
@@BNMCarpentry thank you so much you have put my mind at rest now
@@BNMCarpentry wife just said your awesome can you come and show us how to do it ha ha ha
Would there be any issue doing this with top rail instead of bottom. Just if I was to cut bottom I’d be cutting into bottom rail but have enough clearance at top. I know it would be visible at top.
No issue at all, you can just veneer the top 👌
nooice!
Great work mate. What glue did you use?
Thanks bud just normal pva 👍
Do you have any tips on how to cut veneer doors without chipping the veneer? I unfortunately don't have a plunge saw, only a circular saw which I was thinking of running along a straight edge clamped to the door. Thanks for the tutorial by the way!
Yes bud use a brand new blade in your saw and put masking tape on the top side of the cut that should stop it splintering. If you're cutting in to the chipboard core as well as the veneer then the blades won't last long if they're cheap.
I use Freud blades and they stay sharp for ages.
How many teeth on blade
would this be possible with a hollow core door do you think?
Yes you could, but you would need to add some timber to reinforce the joint.
Also , what’s the make of that retractable small saw your using . Looks good
Olfa it's Japanese.
Brilliant saw highly recommended.
@bnmcarpentry Loving this video. I’ve been told it’s not possible to put a cat flap in the Howden’s Daytona oak glazed door; and that “cat flap can not be put in this glass or any other glass door once it has been toughened. You would have to get a door made and glass made and hole cut in it a processing stage.” Does this sound right? Would appreciate your advices, thanks.
Yes you can't cut toughened glass it will explode into a thousand pieces.
Might be able to fit a small one to the side of the glass tho.
Ah ok, thanks, so putting one below the glass should be ok then?
If it fits and not too close to the bottom of the door. Will void any warranty tho.
Fantastic skilled work, could I ask what blade you used in your plunge saw
Thanks Tony I use Trend Craft Pro blades not the best but good value and do the job fine.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks Ben
I switched to saxton professional 80t. They are pretty cheap on Amazon and leave a fantastic cut in 40mm oak worktops.
Nicely done. Makita have a shoe that carries a jigsaw on theirs and Festools track, no more cleaning out the corners.
Howdens do a couple of doors in this style…is this a Howdens Holdenby Door?
Yes bud Holdenby oaks
How would you cut down an oak vaneer door, when you need to trim more than the recommended amount but less than the height of the bottom panel?
For example about 8cm.
I see your cuts are made to take into account the thickness of the blade. Which i don’t think you can do if shortening the door by less than the height of the bottom panel.
Could i cut 4cm off the top and bottom and leave the core exposed?
Hi George I would probably take 20mm off the top and 60mm off the bottom so the proportions still look ok, but explain to the client that it may look a little off.
Or you could buy a donor door and put in a new bottom rail so you don't have to worry about the thickness of the cut.
Or you could make a new bottom rail either out of solid oak or oak veneer mdf.
Hope that helps, cheers Ben
