Come join me on a journey to Gotland!🛳"From the Town of Roses and Memories" takes you to the mesmerising town of Visby, with its multitude of church ruins and medieval buildings.🏰Known as the 'Town of Roses' in Sweden, for the composer it was also the 'Town of memories', as he was born and raised there.🌹The suite starts with a vision of a vesper in the ruins of old St. Lawrence’s church, with bells ringing to gather the people for the evening service.🔔Next up is a sunny summer’s morning in what is known today as 'Åhsbergska hagen', a sort of wild park north of town. Perhaps picturing a breakfast picnic!🌼Very reminiscent of Peterson-Berger’s music. In the incredibly elegant third movement we follow butterflies playing around in the beautiful Botanical Garden,🦋after which some groomsmen and bridesmaids engage in a charming waltz.💃And this is only part one, the second part will follow next week! A few words on Gustaf Hägg: mostly known today for his colourful organ works, he was a very important organist and teacher in his own days, based in St. Clara’s Church in Stockholm. He did however write more than that, as we can hear here.🎶Now as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe - and don’t miss part two next week!😃
Bravo, a little marvel and what work!
And nobody plays it...! It's out of print now. But could be found online at least.
