FF16 is like a visual novel in some parts, hence why they likely went with that affect. For example in some of the large Eikon battles, it goes away, and makes them really "POP" as the rest of the game doesn't look like that.
well said and makes perfect sense. You gotta figure the darker tone, especially when its cloudy in the game, is the creator intent and with Eikon battles it gets very bright. I noticed with some lava in a cave, toggling between HGiG and DTM, HGiG made the lava pop much more than DTM, as it was intended for that particular scene.
I been trying to tell people this day one. They use color filters for different moods. Late in the game they even use a pink filter for the sun disappearing portion. Calibrating for 750 nits on an 800-nit display like the CX or C1 will result in slightly duller colors. 10% window does indeed hit 760, but you’re better off going for 2% at 800 for the full HDR color effect.
@@Slick10836 I actually recommend leaving your system settings at their intended level and switching to DTM ON for this game. Drop screen brightness down to 2 in the game settings, and motion blur down to 2 as well.

Are we sure it isn't the intent of the creator to have it look as it does with HGIG? For me DTM is far too bright on the CX, and the standard setting of 5 with HGIG set properly in the PS5 UI looks great to me. I noticed with DTM several areas are losing detail, and I'm not a fan. I would rather pursue the original intent as much as possible than alter it, but that's just me. Thanks for the work either way, looking forward to you using the new analysis software.
yea I agree with HGiG being better, despite being duller in open areas. It has to be creator intent cause its a gloomy, dark game in nature. I still wish they made the APL a bit higher but you can tell its creator intent as well cause the desert areas are still pretty bright in HGiG where most open areas are quite dark. Messing between HGiG and DTM is such a cluster fuck too so I just put it in HGiG for everything. These channels are useful though for knowing system level calibration and brightness levels....
I think it's creater intent. Some areas look bright as fuck and the big battles with all the effects going look insane. If you haven't got to the battle where you team up with a certain someone "you will know if You've done it" it's the most popping iv seen hdr in any game or content
I finished the game, Hgig is correct in this game. When scene demands high brightness it pop up extremely well, like Hgig should, using DTM you loose this effect because everything it's to bright. To me HDR is great in FF16 with normal ps5 hdr calibration settings and in game brightness settings 5. My tv is C1 65".
In SDR and HGiG, the whole game is way too dark for me. In this case, I agree with Marcus. DTM On looks better imo. But that's a preference and everyone should decide for themselves.

On the cx I have mine set to 3 and hgig. I found it matches the color saturation and shadow detail of sdr the closest. Any lower and some dark places I feel lose detail and change the intended atmosphere. Only dark places though. Any where else it just seems to deepen color saturation.

Did you ever consider that the game is sposed to look that way? I mean its certainly not dull in every scene particularly the battles its some of the most popping hdr iv seen in a game
@GamingTech With the PS5 in 120hz VRR mode the color range is always limited, is that right? In Diablo 4 the range somehow is getting detected by the TV as full. No other game does that. 🤔 Is it actually a fake full range or do we clip Highlights by setting the range to limited manually?
I figured out that even when you set the ps5 to 120hz diablo 4 runs as 60hz and therefore the color range is actually full rgb. Diablo messes it up and sends limited signal in a full container. Limiting the full signal is fine what I heard so far, you dont lose specular highlights.

Can I ask if you have any opinion on P40l0 suggesting differently? I’m very curious to know as the constant switching I am doing between the two methods (the traditional 14 for hgig and then turn on dtm if using, or 25 clicks for dtm on/off) is bothering me as I can’t decide what looks best, all I am certain of is that when I first tried setting it to 25 clicks in dmc5 special edition and also setting peak brightness in game to 4000 nits that the results were wonderful, truly felt like I was playing a next gen game from setting it to 14 clicks, nothing blinded me, and could distinguish a greater of range of blacks in the darker areas than before…. So I’m confused now and request your opinion on his recommendations please 🙏🏻
@@SE-fq4gf then the result I experienced must have been from setting the peak brightness in game at 4000 nits as per P40L0’s advice for when using dtm. So then the question still stands..why is that? And is there any negatives to doing so. I am not versed enough in the subject to repeat his reasoning, but it had something to do with dtm expecting signals up to 4000 nits and condensing them to your panel. Therefore setting peak brightness or the calibration menu (when supported) to that value when using dtm yields visually better results….or not… I’m not so sure anymore, someone help please 😅

@@trevorstempert1551 it's noticeable when you toggle it on and off. If you'd start playing for a few minutes you'd get used to it easily. Then the DTM would be way too bright and it lifts up the black levels too much
@@Ventus7777I haven’t changed settings between Hgig and DTM for about 2+ years and this is the only game that has made me do that because the contrast in Hgig is terrible and it’s too dim in this game. Have you played FF16 in Hgig?
Is the ps5 system calibration only for this game or in general? I thought we were suppose to make the sun disappear.
Only this game
Hi, how many clicks do you need in the system calibration to output 4000nits in game? I have an LG C8 that tonemaps up to 4000nits and does not support HGIG.
6 clicks for LG C2 is good enough? I wasn’t sure if 5 or 6, left at 6
But the numbers of clicks on PS5 calibration (screen 1 and 2) is completely different between HGiG and DTM. It this table considering use DTM, right?
The latest patch has changed the hdr, this settings doesn't work anymore
What do you recommend? I'm on an LG C3
I believe the hdr is working as intended now. So, just adjust the PS5 HDR settings the way it should be. first and second screen until the sun disappeared and the last screen down all the way. On my LG C2, it was something like this:
1/3 - down all the way darkest, up 14 clicks
2/3 - down all the way darkest, up 14 clicks
3/3 - down all the way darkest ( 0 ) clicks
@adrianosouza7839 the hdr is fixed? You use hgig right? Cause it used to be Very dim it doesn't look right at all is it fixed? Cause I plan on jumping in soon.
hi, can you check if Warzone 2 has any raised black level? playing on a lg c2 with vrr, and always got a feeling that something about contrast is off
what about lg 65 cs9la ?? 820nits
wrgb oled setting for pc gaming on sony/lg oled?
On your last video you said it doesn't matter doing ps5 hdr calibration with dtm on or off now you recommend doing it with hgig on what’s changed?
How many clicks should I have with an LG G4 TV? is it still 9 like the g3?
G4 has a slightly higher peak brightness. Around 1500 nits
I see you have the Logitech Z906 speakers.. Do you use an equalizer for them at all? I find that the out of box sound doesn't sound very good to my ears.
Was waiting for this video, as something was looking off with the previous settings. Now it's 👍. Just one question, do you adjust ps5 hdr settings clicks with hgig on?
Sorry again. I don't know what's wrong with my setup but at least I know now that something is wrong ;-)
@@GamingTech-RUclips no problem man. But you're the best channel on youtube for hdr. So will I adjust hdr with hgig on?
@@suvojitkar9550 yes HGIG on!
@@GamingTech-RUclips actually it shouldn't matter whether HGIG or DTM is enabled, if you are counting clicks. 8 clicks are 8 clicks on the playstation, no matter what picture setting the TV is on while setting up the clicks the playstation. Or am I missing something?
@GamingTech on samsung s95c it is possible to enable both hdr10+ gamig (basic) and hdr game (advanced) at the same time, does it cause any disturbance?
How many clicks should I have for LG B2 in the PS5 HDR settings on page 1, 2 and 3?
For this game, match his CX settings, in general use HGIG and set the 2 at the point when the sun disappears and the last one all the way to zero.
Question, im on the s95b with the older firmware that from what i understand can reach around 1500nits in 1% for a short burst or something like that. Should i still use ur recommend s95b ps5 hdr settings since its for a 10% window? (Dont know much but these things)
i think change ps5 calibration only for 1 game is not viable
without change calibration , brightness 2 is too dark on cx , so im using 5 (dtm on)
So 15 clicks to darker is right?
Am playing my ps5 on an ips monitor and i was doing two clicks more from barely seein the sun and everything looks too bright and washed out, ill try the 5 clicks to seeif it fixes the sky glooming, also thereare games that looks better on sdr with my monitor
A lot of games will look better in SDR than in HDR on IPS monitors, specially if they lack any type of local dimming
A ren't final fantasy 16's huge hud elements a big problem for oled tvs? unfortunately the hud can't be switched off like in other games... That's the only reason why i haven't bought the game yet...
You can turn the UI brightness down
I have a question : on samsung s95b, if I use CE low, should " Game hdr" (hgig) be on or off? Thanks
Static its hgig on (game hdr on & hdr10+ advanced)
Active ist hgig off (game hdr off & hdr10+ off)
wot the correct hdr for a tv not a oled tv on ps5
I have a LG oled c1 and I have watched different video's for the calibration. They have all stated to do 14 clicks for the HDR settings on the PS5. If I follow your guide it means I have to do 5-6 clicks ? I am confused.
because for this game hdr is not implimented correctly through the ps5 hdr settings, so 5 to 6 clicks for this game on for example a oled c1 or cx.
You have to change tone mapping to Dynamic (not HGIG) through your TV. And then you do 5 - 6 clicks.
@@MidnightLawyer.no hgig 5 clicks then turn back hdr tone mapping, he said it in one of his comments asking the same thing
When you are doing the hdr setup on ps5 on your lg oled, how is the DTM setting set? Is it off, HGIG or ON ? I never know what is the correct way to do the hdr setup.. same on xbox actually should i turn off DTM and set the hdr and then use DTM or HGIG however i like it ?
Always with HGiG on!
@@GamingTech-RUclips beautiful! Thanks a lot for the quick reply!!
@jamescallaghan7507 How you set the PS5 calibration screen will have zero effect in DMC5 it does not use information from that screen.
Do you think PS5 having Dolby Vision support would help with the weird HDR implementation?
I saw somebody saw that VRR should be off in this game because it messes with the color. Is that accurate?
VRR on off should not affect colors and I don't see this on my TV.
YES someone say VRR change black level because of limited bandwith on PS5 so HDR a VRR just take to much and PS5 isnt good for this but dunno if it true ( you dont need VRR anyway if you dont play 48fps and more XD
@@MUSIC3787vrr shifts gamma on all display types. It has nothing to do with the PS5.
@@MUSIC3787 I tested it with VRR on and it doesn't affect color, still in RGB (HDR) with full bandwidth
First game I've had on PS5 and LG C2 that has caused me to do research kn how to make the game run and look better. Which sucks, because i have a feeling im not actually going to enjoy FF16 unless i throw a powerful GPU at it when it launches on PC. The PS5 just isnt getting the job done, and I think the devs are to blame here.
Just a shame that you aren't able to return to a sunny world before the forecast spell was cast...
Are these new hdr setting In general or just for ff16?
Just for FF16!

These mistakes are exactly why people should stop obsessing about “correct” hdr settings, etc… and go by their personal preferences and what looks good to them. One persons settings are never a “one size fits all” scenario.
