    The 'weird' pattern in the combustion chamber of the new cylinder are from the cylinder wall plating process.Nikasil basically explodes a nickle composite wire with high voltage and this plates the bore, then it is machined to size.

    Love the content. Husqvarna (Redmax owner) redesigned the fan to eliminate those inserts from coming loose. Watching you rebuild one of these things was worth it's weight in gold. The majority of the oil/dirt near the bottom of the engine and volute comes from the base gasket failure points. Also, the oil on the bottom of the intake tube is normal due to the oiling system design. Keep it up !!

Maybe it has been laying on its side a little while waiting for the Mustie1 fix and a bunch of premix did get dumped into the tube and the gas evaporated from the oil. This one really exposes the inner-workings of Mustie's mind. I would automatically expect the worst that it was bottom end. I would never think, fan. And then, as he's working on the wrist pin, he uses a pinch-off pliers to hold the connecting rod. This is like watching Paul over a Gearbox tv. Sometimes it's not always about the repair. It's how they position the work to do the repair. True craftsman, indeed.

    • @Hjerte_Verke
      @Hjerte_Verke Месяц назад +2

      Educational video to say the least. MOST people would presume it was the bottom end as well and the blower would soon be on the scrap heap, even among those who would attempt a repair anyway. The repairers are 1-10% of the population. The rest exist in the "if-it-doesn't-work-throw-it-away" crowd.

    • @ronaldheit196
      @ronaldheit196 Месяц назад +1

      @Hjerte_Verke .
      Not like when I was a kid.
      We fixed everything unless it truly was scrap and then we'd salvage everthing that could be useful.
      Especially hardware.
      My Gramps had 5 sheds with 2 of them for salvaged bicycle hardware and 1 for frames and frame parts.
      1 for chains, sprockets, brakes and other frame mounted parts.
      The last one his shop.
      In Flint Michigan walking distance to the AC Spark plug factory.
      Every kid for a mile around would bring their bikes to him to be repaired and modified.
      He'd build them from parts including neat boy or girl paint jobs and sell them autographed.
      I wonder how many of them were passed down and still exist.

    Seen the issue of the fan starting to make more and more noise before.
    Used a 2 part plastic filler/glue to fix the slop on that one.
    I do like the fiber rings as a fix tho, much easier and less mess.
    The oil in the intake is also something i see often, the fuel evaporates but the oil stays behind and pools at the botom.
    Often due to storing a machine on its side and over time the fuelmix seeps through the carb.

      Aside from corners, yeah. And way cheaper to run. And lighter to carry. And less maintenance.
      Blowing grass and dirt off paths is the only real use case I can see for these things. A rake won't work at all, and a broom might work, but freshly cut grass often sticks to concrete/pavers and takes a lot of effort to sweep off.
      But good luck convincing people with nice lawns that they don't need to blow the leaves off every 5 minutes. They don't seem to understand that picking 3 leaves up by hand is easier than lugging the blower around.

I've heard that the aftermarket cylinder/piston kits aren't nearly as good as originals/OEM, so think I'd have kept the original vs. putting the kit in. It was good the gudgeon pin clip had a tab so you can grip the thing, unlike so many of Stihl's.

    It's nice to see this done, if I ever come across something similar, I'll have the confidence to do so, thanks Mustie!

    When you pulled the head off it looked like a small screw fell out of the barrel! (commenting before the end of the video) 😅🤔😂

    A little tip those metal sleeves can be slowly and gently pressed through the plastic fan. By using wooden boards laid out flatten across the hydraulic bench press vise. To push those sleeves through the nylon plastic with. By using A punch that is the same outer diameter as the shape. Of the metal sleeve's inside of that plastic to barley press it down and the back of the nylon plastic fan with. Also that fan is suppose to have A thin plastic dial pin alignment peg. That fits down inside. Of the metal adapter plate where it bolts onto evenly and properly. With having those metal sleeves spaced out and keep it in alignment. And the right width of those fiber washer that you put behind that fan blade. The should be pressed outwards the thickness of those fiber washers and locktite thread locker on the bolts again.
