Man you need a local tour guide😊 There are countless spots/tips for many Chinese cities. Nearby Shanghai I would recommend zhouzhuang or wuzhen. Search on Google and you will see what I meant.
You went to the wrong place, China’s best old town is Xitang, take the train for one stop to Jiashan south station from Shanghai, and take a taxi from Jiashan to Xitang. That’s place mission impossible 3 was filmed, Tom Cruise pictures were everywhere once, but not anymore.

The night view of the old city area in Suzhou is very beautiful. In China, it is only at night when people come out to play. When the scenery and lanterns are lit up, the buildings will be even more beautiful.
There’s a Chinese saying goes like “Just as there is paradise in heaven, there are Suzhou and Hangzhou on earth.” Hope you visited Hangzhou as well. Enjoy.
Don't point to certain buildings and say they are Eastern European or Soviet style. This is very rude and ignorant. Most buildings are new styles that incorporate Chinese traditions, such as this Suzhou Railway Station.

I am glad to come across your video which stood out to be different from many other western RUclipsrs which displayed a budget travel in China. Your videos provide a different angle China to the audience and help the audience to get a better sense of the lifestyle of the middle and upper middle class in China. In addition it is easier to catch up with your English pronunciation than some of those from the UK and the USA as a Chinese 😂
Suzhou looks relatively quiet, peaceful and classic, but in fact it’s one of the China’s largest manufacturing centres and the largest river based harbour in the word, it’s actually super rich and advanced 😂
That's my city man!!! The gate of the orient is actually the second highest in Suzhou, landscape and streetscape design was by an American firm called SWA.
Suzhou is not within the scope of Shanghai. Shanghai used to be a part of Suzhou, but later the country separated Shanghai from Suzhou for development (I am a local of Suzhou)😊😊😊
😃😃😃 Very good video; however, you have toured probably less than 10% of the city historically, aesthetically, and geographically. Dany, you may consider doing some research and then visiting the city again. Really enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing with us. 👍👍👍
You should appreciate 30 minutes journey from Suzhou to Shanghai, ten year ago I was there as a traveller the same journey by travel bus it take 3 to 4 hours. This type of travel distance consider very short in China.
Suzhou and hangzhou are the backyard gardens for Shanghainese. once they have holidays or a get away weekend. Shanghainese go there. especially Suzhou. since it’s too close to shanghai

30 years ago when china was opening up, Hong Kong businesses went in through Shenzhen and dominated there. Singapore government wanted to move in too, and picked Suzhou as their base, set up the first industrial park with Singapore companies starting their Chinese businesses there.
Suzhou is a very famous city in China and has a very strong economy. The GDP of Kunshan County under Suzhou's jurisdiction is higher than that of Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam.
Nanjing is a great place to visit since it’s been the capital city of so many ancient Chinese dynasties. The vibe is vey different from the ones you have enjoyed in Shanghai and Suzhou. You won’t regret to pay a visit there.
Suzhou is much bigger and rich history than you saw. You just scratched the surface by hopping couple spots in one day. 😂 It is super-hot now. The best season will be spring and fall to visit, and best time will be at night the lanterns lit up.
The red sign in front of Shuzhou railway station is “Socialist Core Values”, which can be concluded as only one destination of the party and government: service the people hard and soul.
The Suzhou train station is definitely not soviet style. It was built in quite recent time with design elements taken from the traditional architecture in this area.
