    I am a Turkish person from Turkey. Last year, while traveling in Barcelona, I met a young woman who told me she was from Kashgar. We spoke in English for the first 20 minutes, but then her phone rang, and she began speaking in her native language. I was stunned-I could understand about 60% of the conversation. This video brought back that same feeling of surprise and connection.
    As Turks, our ancestors once lived close to China (during the Göktürk and Hun Empires etc), but most of us migrated to other parts of the world in the 4th century. Despite this long separation, I still see striking similarities in the foods, language and cultures of the Uyghur people. It’s a makes me feel weird, happy and sad at the same time. I wish them all a very happy, healthy and long life, thank you for the video.

      @@inanana1654 very true. since 2015 birth rates in uyghur regions have fallen over 75% due to forced sterilizations and abortions. in 2017 more than 1 million uyghurs were sent to internment/penal/work camps without any legal process, making it the largest mass internment of an ethnic group since world war 2. over 16000 mosques have been demolished or shut down.... its bad. anyways... this comment will more than likely get removed. stay informed and dont fall for propaganda.

      Regular people (not rich) are friendly, kind and generous everywhere until they come into contact with Western Finance Capitalism and unnecessary consumption. Regular people then become selfish, greedy and manipulative. Of all your videos this is my favourite. Stories of the old Asian trading routes have fascinated me all my life (I'm almost as ancient!) and your stories/videos have covered many of many of them. Xinjiang was undoubtedly one of the northern east/west routes. The hustle and bustle of life in Kashgar for example, is how I imagine life has gone on though these regions for many hundreds of years, except that instead of scooters transport was probably the Bactrian Camel. The way you interact with people and get them to open up to you is inspirational. I'm really looking forward to your journey as you travel west towards Tajikstan (and the Tianshan mountains), the corridor to Uzbek and Turkman(istan). A wonderful video!

    That Uyghur family's hospitality reminds me of people from where I live (I'm from Indonesia)
    At that time our car was totally broken so suddenly in an area we didn't know, but there are still houses around us. It happened very late at night. We didn't even ask people around for help but they are coming to us and trying to do so many initiatives to help us as much as they could. We are allowed to sleep, bathe, even eat a whole course meal in a total stranger's house lol, but they act as if they're our relatives by blood, we talk like we know each others for years.
    In my opinion asian hospitality is a nice thing we have in this chaotic world. Every time I see people being kind and being human to others, I feel emotional and sentimental. I'm glad I could witness this type of warm and kind gestures again through your videos.

      West China is definitely still impoverished come on, the country has a really big income inequality problem. But yes there is undoubtedly a narrative from Western mainstream media to talk about Uyghur China to extreme levels. From the same narrative/goal as the ones who downplay Israel's current genocide and sometimes even shift the blame to hamas and sometimes even to regular Palestinians and uh university students out west...

    Western tourists (the ones that complain the most) want sense of authenticity, but have they considered what is more important to the majority of the residents, authenticity or modern facilities which they have the rights to enjoy too as citizens of the country? NO sewage system, no toilets inside, mud walls, narrow lanes which mean fire brigade can't get fast enough inside to put out the fire is not something I want ti live with. I feel that the style of the old architecture is still there, just not the exact same as it was before. Also current configuration means children have more spaces to play, interact and bigger vehicles can pass through to transport items. Those tourists probably want it to still look like the slums existing in some developing countries.

    • @myeongwol
      @myeongwol 26 дней назад +53

      Distorted haters would only yell and accused the govt destroyed the heritage etc but they conveniently left out the fact that the govt prepared facilities that made the people's life easier and more comfortable.

    From the look of it, the people are living harmoniously together free from distrust and animosity. Their lives are full of variety and vitality. Kids are playing and dancing on the clean streets, and shops and vendors proudly serve their local specialties. People live their lives without fear of conflicts or crime. History showed otherwise, but I hope these conditions to last. Be aware of those with ill intentions who want to destroy everything for their own gains.
