I spoke to Byanca a few times about inviting you, but it takes months for her to return messages lolol, I wait for your response. Cheers Alex
The issue with most western people is not just the monitoring, the government monitoring but that a foreigner can never be a chinese citizen with the same rights of a citizen.
re: all the security cameras on the streets - if you are not a drug dealer or want to kill random people, who is insane enough to watch you 24/7? How egocentric could one be?
First of all it is well-known that journalism and private opinions in the public realm do not work the same there as in the “west”.. Second it is 100 percent obvious he is a foreigner and doesn’t speak the local language in case he needs to defend himself or communicate in the slightest and happens to be from a place going under serious geopolitical issues. And thirdly he happens to runs a media channel showcasing the places he visits and broadcasts it to the entire world via RUclips which is *blocked* in China which has one of the worlds most comprehensive internet censorship regimes. These are all MORE than enough reason to feel anxiety about being there..
True, the cameras do give you a reassuring sense of safety in the streets - that said, I was monitored and stopped by police when I was at a festival in a town in Yunnan province, because they thought I was from Xinjiang. Thank goodness my friend speaks Chinese so he helped me out of the situation, otherwise I would have probably been questioned or detained. So, it's not always a perfect system.
Stop Gaslighting! Cameras won't hide how things really are! People have freedom to speak! We all know how things are! Only fools would belive your lies! The free people don't like to being wach all times! Who is the one who watch those who watch others! All those wrong doings! There is no right to do humans those things, no matter how much power you have! How about the common people who are hungry, the people who suffer, all innocent blood that have been shed! How do you sleep your night knowing all that! How heavy is the burden of corruption that makes you close your eyes! Explain that, you can't! The money won't do it! Explain that to others, explain to God! Money is the only reason you do what you do!
TBH, I would not agree that Bangkok is on the same par with Shanghai, except for its international influence... The city infra outside of the center area(even in most central parts) is not comparable to even most 3rd tier cities in China. In the night, it looks super busy and interesting when the neon lights are on, but in the day, you see wires entangled in a mess everywhere, stinky river branches that flow into Meinan river, super noisy, road conditions not good(but already quite good compared to many other south asian cities). After all, Thailand looks like a "paradise" for western people(especially men) to have some chill moments but from my perspective , it is a new reflection of "colonization", rich Thai people get richer by matching needs and providing service for tourists while poor people struggle or even compete to make ends meet(Massage/h is around 8 dollars while it can be as low as 6.5 dollars if there are several competitors on the same street). But in China, people feel confident and we don't need to do anything to cater to these needs from the non-local people I have been to most major cities in the world and I am very confident that Shanghai is among top 3 in the world in terms of most key factors to evaluate the competitiveness and livability of a city, we are living in the next level and Bangkok is absolute not, it is just a paradise for carnivals and for temporary visitors, so to speak It is hard to find a nice car in even Bangkok, like BMW 5 series or Mercedez E class are quite rare but are ubiquitous in Shanghai. An interesting fact, Many of the companies in Shanghai are offering the same salary as in Europe and Chinese people love to save money... If you go outside of Bangkok, you would probably end up being in tropical forests or beaches and nothing more, and it is so hard to reach since the trains are so infrequent and slow, in China, you can literally to most of the destinations you want by bullet train. BTW, HangZhou, which is another neighboring city of Shanghai ,is way more interesting and famous than SuZhou, be sure to check that out and spend 3-4 days over there. In China, the landscape is so various like in America, China has a lot to offer more than merely big cities. If you go to the west part of China, say ChengDu, and drive 2 hours west bound, you will be able to see some of the most elevated glaciers in the world. If you go South, say Hainan island, I would say you will feel very similar vibes and facilities as you would see in any other famous beach destinations in the world. If you go North in winter, you will see some of the most beautiful snow world like in Alaska. The list goes on... But in terms of variety of entertainment and the international vibe, Bangkok tops the world.
Great. Now that you're done talking, please go back to your factory and make some Nike shoes for me. Thais are good at massage, and Chinese are good at working in factories set up by the western countries. Who is happier, massage or factory? By the way, aren't there enough factories in China? Why is your country scattering numerous Chinese workers all over the developed countries of the world?
I'm Chinese and I agree with the last sentence that Bangkok has a great international vibe. A lot of my relatives have traveled there and they love it.
Generally, in China, you won't have any problems if you just mind your own business and don't try to cause trouble. There are instances in the west where that isn't true especially if you're the wrong ethnicity or color
"There are instances in the west where that isn't true especially if you're the wrong ethnicity or color" That also happens especially in China, especially to black South African workers, I know a few of them and they got raided and kicked them out of the apartment, but for some reason they didn't question the white South African with them and let him stay even though they were all living and working together. This happened around 10-11 years ago. You won't see these kind of thing anymore because they already kicked all the minorities they don't want out, and hide any facts about it. So it's a little unfair to say that about the west when the discrimination is just as bad in China. The difference is in the west there are many people would step-in to help the person in trouble while in China they would rather stay out of it, because like you said " just mind your own business and don't try to cause trouble" especially if that means it affects their social credit score.
@paul2609 the social credit score is a myth. There are many on the street interviews where Chinese are asked about it and they don't know what it's about

Hey Dany thanks for your amazing videos of China. As a Chinese I agree on your idea about the soft freedom in our society, I feel less strict social manners here in the air than in Japanese, Singaporean or maybe Korean societies. I think maybe that’s because we have a large population and everybody prefers to chill in his or her own way (and imagine those preferences multiple to 1.4 billion lol) . Chinese people and culture are super diverse and thus can be hard to define. Next time you gotta explore more places such as Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xi’an and my home city Chongqing. They are all interesting cities that can represent China in different unique ways. Hope you enjoy your stay in Seoul:))
Nah, China is NOT safe for foreigners, No amount of whitewashing will remove the fact that China is an authoritarian government, and society is scared of their government.
20+ years ago I went to Shanghai for the first time, make it the point that I would spend the next 2 years travel all over Shanghai(my job needed me to travel to Shanghai a lot), 20+ years later I still haven't finish Shanghai, not because of the size, it's rather the non stop changing of everything, the places I went 2 years before is now became something else, so I've been to Shanghai for 20+ years and yet I'm still exploring.
Come on Danny do we have any privacy in America today at all.? First of all all internet activity is completely monitored. 2. Every channel you turn they know on your TV. 3. Have you ever thought about why Chinese people are reluctant to talk about politics with foreigners? Or why they don't like to talk about politics with white Europeans and Americans? It's because media outlets such as BBC and CNN have been conducting malicious interviews and editing interview content for decades. This has led Chinese people to be very cautious when it comes to discussing politics with these media outlets, making them reluctant to engage in relevant discussions with European Americans. In fact, if you are from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, or Latin America, Chinese people would not be so cautious. The reason why Chinese people are unwilling to discuss politics with Indians, Europeans, or Americans is because the media from these regions have been spreading rumors and slandering China for a long time.
True. I don't know why everyone I know in New Zealand believe Taiwan is a country. They also believe that Hongkong is not part of China. Who told them this? BBC and the government.
If you are a foreigner and you use your own roaming network, you can still access to all these western social media apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, RUclips..etc. Microsoft apps can be used in China at all times without VPN, that's because they agree to put their servers in China, whereas the other social media apps are not willing. All countries require foreign social apps to have their servers installed locally for security reason. Thats what Tiktok did in US.
Interesting to hear how these foreign tourists especially from the west talking about freedom in China. They always mess up political “freedom” with real freedom just like their media. London has really high cctv cameras per km2 which people hardly complain or mention it. In terms of daily life, China has more freedom like the west. Are you allowed to drink alcohol on the street in London or New York? You certainly can do it in China.
@@kayleung5722 as you said it was lockdown. What happens when the western country announces curfew? Were they allowed to walk around freely? No idea what happened to your imaginary friend. Even my grandma could order food or water online during the lockdown period. Didn’t your friend have phone or internet?
Hey Dany, thanks for sharing your experience and opinions over Shanghai and Suzhou. German passport holders already enjoy 15-day visa-free entry in addition to 144-hour visa-free transit in China.
@@baconatorrodriguez4651What doesn’t make sense? China have good relations with both Ukraine and Russia. Meanwhile also has good relationship with Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Well, China is like a giant rapidly growing company. It offers lots of opportunities, great working environment, salary can be doubled in a short time, etc. The managers in all levels DO take advices from employees otherwise the company won't grow this fast, but you shouldn't expect that they want you to stand in the lobby shouting about how bad the managers/CEOs are. For employees, if a company offers great paycheck, nice working environement and a promising future, i doubt if any wants to stand in public or posts on company's website with harsh comments about the CEOs. For outsiders maybe criticizing their CEO is important, but for those employees who actually working there, not so much
Thank you Dany for sharing your experience in China, and I really enjoyed, both your narratives and images are superb. Expect more from you, and be more fruitful for your future endeavor.
China did not block some popular America apps such as RUclips, Facebook, Twitter etc. You cannot access them in China is because they do not operate in China because they refused to obey Chinese laws regarding Internet such as having to keep China users' data in China, so they opted not to enter Chinese market on their own will.
Dude, what the heck are you talking about. That law exists in India and EU as well. China blocked the services of them. We are allowed to consume video from all over the world. But Chinese government is afraid of their own people consuming the content from other countries. THEY ARE AFRAID. Read carefully, CHINA IS AFRAID of other cultures seen by their people.
You don't understand the principle of the internet, do you? Every website can be reached anywhere on the internet via an IP address. But China and other dictatorships block these websites or IP addresses. We in the West can read China's propaganda uncensored, even though most of the websites don't operate directly in the West. That's the difference between a democracy (West) and the dictatorships of the global South!
@@sheshankutty8552 Wow, a true China expert. The Chinese Government is SO afraid of exposing their people to other cultures. In 2019, ONLY 170 million of them travelled overseas for holidays and returned to China. ONLY slightly more than a MILLION are studying abroad every year. People from ONLY more than 60 countries can travel to China visa free. 😂
@@sheshankutty8552 To be honest, it might be true that Chinese government was afraid some false yet brainwashing messages got passed from these media...but in recent years, especially since Trump and Covid, after seeing what western countries have been doing, things have changed DRAMATICALLY. Honestly, I feel that Chinese government will soon open up those apps, like they introducing the visa-free to a lot of countries rapidly. I personally am super impressed on how people have changed when facing western messages, previously we admire western media and doubt our government, now, we laugh at those media since 90% of their news regarding China are too apparently and laughable false. You don't have to believe me, but don't be suprised when they suddenly open up those apps and RUclips got stormed by Chinese comments one day soon
It is a little hard to follow you, you need to narrow down your points. It is not the problem that Chinese don‘t speak English, many young people speak English well.
He had a chinese girlfriend for 3 years he could easily have learned a bit of chinese during that time. Typically it’s assumed that everyone must speak English.
I think the main reason you leaving China is … VISA ended😂 China is a developing country and indeed there are problems pending to resolve. Try ignoring them and enjoy your trip. Those problems do not really matter for you as a tourist 😉
Next time you need to do more research before you go, pick better weather, avoid national holidays. Lesson learned on my 1st visit 10 yrs ago. Otherwise, you'll run into getto of China with crowds (that is if there is any :D). I just got back after 2 weeks. The cleanliness, friendliness, safeness and the luxury ($150 for 5-6 star hotel w/ 2 minute walk breakfast bar/happy hour), robots on the street and in the mall doing cleaning, took a cab without driver, never used any paper money. Paid grocery with no one in sight using my face! TOO many WTF moments. I want to go back next year for sure. Yes. People have no idea until they go there.
One negative: smoking! Yes. There are no indoor smoking anywhere I went (all banned) but there are still some smokers outdoors. Althought they are very considerate and one person went downwind so my son doesn't smell the smoke! Hats off lad.
Welcome to China again after this trip. We don't mind pointing out the shortcomings of our trip, and we hope to point out more shortcomings, as long as our views remain objective and fair.
I hope you come back to see more of China. Maybe some of the "smaller" cities or head out to western China. I think that will help give you an overall vibe of the country.
Hey, your vlogs about Shanghai are aesthetic, professional and impressive, particularly the one about the Peace Hotel. Looking forward to your more videos about the country hopefully in very near future. Maybe you can take us to some sand dunes in Dunhuang north west China which are totally insane and wild to my eyes. (Just saw it from a girl's vlog that i could hardly believe it real)
Are you crazy? It's hot as hell in there right now. And the desert is not as pretty as you think. The most charming "Mogao Grottoes" there are restricted due to cultural relics protection, and if you are a foreigner, you will find it difficult to enter because of your bad habit of graffiti.
Welcome to visit China again. China is like Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings, with countless different ethnic groups and unique cultures. There are more than 30 different ethnic groups in Yunnan, countless mysterious virgin forests in Guizhou, and snow-capped mountains, deserts, and Zhongsha City in Xinjiang. There is a sea view like the Maldives. Your visit this time has only opened a small fragment of the world map of this mysterious world.
You are probably the only RUclipsr that I have subscribed went to SuZhou. I probably recommend spending more time there exploring the gardens and food. I only spent one and half days there last time due to tight schedule. Will definitely be back.
He is obviously feeling anxiety and thus is not his normal self … do you not know how human nature works and what he established about how he feels about being there ?
You wasted 75% of thr video on totally mundane and irrelevant topics and the the roots and origins of Chinese culture, instead having a tight and focused and distilled script to narrate the video, on why are really loving China. That is def8 Italy not going to help acquire more followers. Total waste of viewers time !
As you said you were Ukrainian how could you explain Slavic people in general are cold and distant, my opinion is there is something against western culture because they felt left behind and some remains of communism when smiling was suspicious
you are secretly monitoring others with your camera as well,if you really don’t feel comfortable for being monitored, ask people shown in your video for consent before upload their faces to the public.
Mr. Cutie is leaving,my heart is broken. 🥹By the way, perhaps you could come to Xi An to visit the Terracotta Army next time, where they have audio guides available in English.🥰
The subtitles on your video cannot be translated into the Chinese language. The reason may be that the wrong method or software was used when editing the video. In the previous video, it was no problem to choose Chinese simplified characters, but this time the subtitles are no longer visible in traditional Chinese characters. It is a pity that we cannot know the content of the words in this episode. 😅
Dany enjoy your departing china humor and help ease up the anxiety of being in china, your videos help calm the fears.. thanks for going and taking the risk for all of us....
Hi Dany, has anyone ever told you that you look like the Sprouse twins? Look up Cole and Dylan Sprouse. I think the similarity is mostly the eyes. You could be brothers. 😄
Broooo china is 3rd world nation like southeastasia india africa...how can you compare europe with chino...😅 only korea japan Australia can be compared to europe😅
How i can tell if a Chinese friend is REALLY a friend. When they tell me the bad things about their country and especially the government. I had a CCP member in my company. We went bike ride through the city and he gave me the CCP's version of how great everything is. As we rode, I showed him the truth in a tactful way- 1 or more blocks from the tourist areas. The next day, he thanked me for showing him and enlightening him, and he shared what we did with the company. I never say the West is better, but I do show what it is REALLY like "behind the scenes." Typically really contrary to what information they are fed.
I prefer countries with diversities being a American Canadian. Im not sure if I can live long term in a country with a big homogeneous population. Besides North America, I like being in Europe and South East Asia. Love your videos.

You certainly can do it in China.
well said
Try walking around in search of food and water in lockdowns. My friend did both the Shanghai lockdowns. Definitely was far from soft freedom.
@@kayleung5722 lockdowns showed the worst of China, but it is over now, move on...

And then that comes with being jailed for N number days if they don't like you. LOL. Free free free.. including jail time.

Real and objective point of view. Have a good time.
Expect more from you, and be more fruitful for your future endeavor.
i read that london has the highest number of CCTV per capita in the world and that city is still unsafe.
Thank you for sharing Dany 👍🤍
Dany Dev-Thank you for sharing your adventure in China that oriented us what China can offer ,it’s beautiful city nice vlog.
@@sheshankutty8552so you are the expert, know it all!
I think the main reason you leaving China is … VISA ended😂
China is a developing country and indeed there are problems pending to resolve. Try ignoring them and enjoy your trip. Those problems do not really matter for you as a tourist 😉
The clickbait on this one is next level
welcome to china all the time!!
Humanless. Robot world. Cashless- controlled and taxed.
So if you ever break any kind of rules then your face won’t be able to buy any food. Who is to say you will ALWAYS agree with government rules?

Glad you enjoyed the vids :D
Aww amazing video, you made me miss Shanghai even more than i already did haha!
it's not an "influence". it was colonization, which is why so many concessions are in Shanghai.
Your honest take on Shanghai is refreshing. What ultimately led to your decision to leave?
or was it SEMI-honest take on Shanghai ?
Your title makes no sense, of course you will leave because you don't live in China, you are just a tourist.
he needs views to make money.

Dany.. you look weird and sound weird this time. You just bla, bla, bla without saying anything.

I am glad you enjoyed most things in China. I couldn't imagine the mid to high 30s weather with humidity is endurable. The best time is Autumn imo.
Watching this video from the Pihilippines.
