the best takes in gaming
thanks!
I agree Miyamoto has always had that mindset
John Carmack said it best. Story in a game is like story in a porn, it's expected but it's not that important.
Straight up facts
The story in vanquish I can't even remember what it was or not sure if I even paid attention. The game was awesome overall because it was fun
point proven!
greatvid love them
thanks!
@@blake3one6 u welcome
I love both equally but what matters most is the gameplay I love the gameplay more but I love both equally but most importantly I'm there for the gameplay
I work as a librarian and even i agree with this
I agree TOTALLY. I don’t need a story I need FUN!
Story is the framing device for the gameplay. Lore is for the people who watch the special features.
It really does depend on the game and genre typically a game like Mario the story dosent matter a great deal but say in an RPG like final fantasy or something the story definitely supplements the gameplay.
Can be good, rpg still can be good with a simple plot like Etrian Oddyssey for example
@@akiradkcn A simple plot doesn't say if it's a good or bad story.
@@Raigan_Avalon no one said that but ok
You got some good points
I fricking agree
Yes it matters.
Today most people / normies play games mostly for the story. That's a fact. Except in multiplayer/competitive scenarios. Ask your friends and you'll be surprised. Many games like Witcher 3 or Mass Effect have very sh1te gameplay but they are adored by millions. Why? You know why.
you named two games LOL and one of them is over ten years old
@@blake3one6 I mean all ME quadrology (2007, 2010, 2012, 2017). Literally any acclaimed single-player game is story-focused now. Take Sony exclusives, for example.
Bruh I always skip the boring ass cutscenes in video games. If the game is dog shit, then me no play.
Exactly!
@@blake3one6 Didn’t TellTale go under or is currently going under now people their game is just cutscenes? Lol
You can’t know if they are boring if you are skipping them.
4:28 LOOOOOOOOOOOL HAHAHAAAA! AY this dude funny!
I never play for the story, if I can skip a cutscene I probably will just to get to the game. My favorite story in a game was probably Chrono Trigger.
Completely agree. Never cared about the story but the last of us did stand out to me. Gameplay is the main thing that I care about in games
The last of us also had addictive gameplay
@@rowanfarmer9029 Yeah I love it. Gotta play that again sometime soon
I would say context is key, like a great story can make a ok game seem better than it is (EX: Last of Us) but a meh story in a game doesn't doesn't make it any less amazing if the gameplay is God tier (EX: Doom Eternal)
I can agree with this I cared more about the characters, soundtrack, and gameplay.
Outside of games like life is strange then yeah it doesn't matter. I know games with good stories and bad gameplay. I never play them again and the story has never been so good i went on yt to watch the story.
Ah yes, skipping all dialogue in octopath traveler has really increased my experience 🧐
if you listened in the video, I didn't say all games! lol
@@blake3one6 MY INFORMATION RETENTION IS BAD OKAY
Watch dogs story is a masterpiece bruh
Yes, but no
I agree with you completely. I've hit a point where I really don't care about the story of a game at all. I just want to play a fun game and that's it. I know that games like the last of us are stand outs for thier story but to me, games like that have little to no replayability and the constant remakes don't excite me in the slightest. Stop worrying about making a masterfully crafted story and start focusing on masterfully crafted gameplay!
Do subway surfers have a story 🤣🤣💩💩
3:28 watch dogs ain’t fun tho …😂
dont nothing matter in that game LOL
if games like Persona 5, Nier Automata, and FFVII had no type of story they wouldn’t have been nearly as good. Story is one of the reasons Mortal Kombat is still popular today while other fighting games fell off...
Nintendo is given nostalgia passes for their games also. Same for their hardware which is why Nintendo network is below 2005 standard
bruh, no one is playing Mortal Kombat because of its story LOL
@@blake3one6yet they made a whole expansion pack continuing it. Mortal Kombat’s story has been massive since the reboot came out,it’s what separated it from all the other fighting games who put no effort into it.
@@KnucklesWTD normie alert
@@rowanfarmer9029 🤡
@@KnucklesWTD if you want a story watch a movie the game play is what is important
100% Agree! Story doesn't make or break a game nor does it make the game one plays good, bad, or mediocre. Everyone tells me story is what makes good video games and I say "I don't care. I don't play video games for the plot and/or lore. It's all about the gameplay and whether or not if it's fun to play." Story elements are nothing but a mere bonus feature in my eyes.
🤦♂️🙄 no I play Final Fantasy, Witcher 3, Skyrim, AC Valhalla, Kingdoms of Amalur for the story.
Final Fantasy 8 and 13 are disliked because of the poor story. So sit down with people playing games for the gameplay.
RPGs without a story are dumb and pointless.
Idiotic take. The story is paramount in a video game. If you remove the story, you've got nothing more than an instantly forgettable time waster. Time wasters are something you play to occupy your time on the bus or waiting for an appointment because you're too illiterate to read a book and too shy to strike up a conversation. There's a reason why the most memorable, most long lasting, most popular games are all known for their stories, why they're advertised for their stories.
What he says is true a game must have some kind of lore but that really doesn't matter
"There's a reason why the most memorable, most long lasting, most popular games are all known for their stories". So mario, CSGO, street fighter, world of warcraft, tetris, minecraft, DOTA 2 are all known for their amazing stories lol
@@CandarianGaming cherry picked games wow and sf have tons of lore also tbh
@@KnucklesWTD If a blanket statement is said it must be applied to everything. I was just proving he was wrong
@@CandarianGaming WoW does have a story, continuing off the narratives of Warcraft 1, 2, & 3. The others, Mario, CSGO, etc, are time wasters. They're the equivalent funny pages in the local newspaper. You skim them, chuckle a bit, then move on the something more substantive.
Blake you dont even know what you're talking about. I buy cod for the story mode
Blake has it crossed you mind that maybe story centric games might not be for you. Maybe you should just stick to games like halo, gears or cod. It’s not for everyone you’re free to think it’s trash, a lot of people have different taste when it comes to games. Don’t act so fucking arrogant like your opinion applies to everyone else I’m not trying to change your opinion or anything I’m just sick & tired of you calling it a fact and shoving it into other people’s throat. I’m no fanboy trying to defend these games and I’ll admit it those games you mentioned aren’t flawless but don’t act like it’s the worst game ever made just because it’s not the game you liked
I’m sorry Marcus but I was almost named “facts” at birth because that’s all I speak apparently
