- A Small dissection of why i dont like RPG video games and backing as to why that is. I have been trying to properly articulate why for a while and i finally was able to illustrate it somewhat coherently

God I hate RPGs. Too much walking around doing nothing, backtracking in a giant generic world, getting lost in said giant map, random encounters that WASTE MY TIME and combat that makes me want to quit the game every time I'm forced into it. I could rant for hours about how garbage it is. It honestly ruined Undertale and Omori for me. The story is the only reason I played em at all.
i love how yall whine about this like rpg isn’t a very vague and broad term for video games lmao
@@MrFormaldehydeit’s still incredibly dumb to be this emotional about lmao
@@MrFormaldehyde i’m glad you can admit it lol
@@MrFormaldehyde if u thought I was being serious that proves my point enough
Everyone has their opinions but i liked some RPGs like san andreas and gta 4 cuz they had that vibe that no other games had and rpg games were fun cuz of how new everything felt then but now its just repetitive
RPGS are for nerds that want to simulate having an actual life. Don't @ me.
oooh like fps games?
Sheesshhh
also no offense but if you play video games and r seething over a genre instead of saying u just don’t like it ur already a nerd LMAO
"This is why I dont like things in x area, except it isnt really accurate, and also I sometimes enjoy things in x area"
This was pointless, waifu
Lmao
i wonder if this chart can be used to discribe a player. Like i am a physical player with barely any strategy at all, i like to bang my head agast the wall and learn from it rather than carfully prepair for the situation ahead
So would an Idle AFK RPG game where you don't even click or do anything be a 0,0 game?
I love how this guy listed chess and the most difficult mental task without physically exerting yourself. This man didn’t go to uni. Neither did I but god damn
I did go to uni, but chess is a good analog for what I’m talking about, maybe go would be better but it’s a fine example
I guess Waifu is right but I'm still playing Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance and BGDA 2.
They do so heavily rely on the same somewhat addictive idea of progressive levelling usually by the same hack and slash style for XP. However I do believe that certain games can dispute this with story and other means of XP gain. A prime example for me would be Fable 2 and Fable 3. There are many RPG games and I suppose that this chart and Thesis does not account for individual titles but RPGs as a whole and with many RPGs using the very same Tropes it becomes convoluted and is very easy to brand the genre as "Boring".
This however, makes individual titles stand out like the ones above mentioned and I would assume the same for all gamers. I do very much believe that alot of my early years of gaming were heavily invested in the Pokemon series and it did take me a while to realise that the only reason I still play them to this day is because of the nostalgic feels I get from them when I play. Usually only starting up the game and playing for around a few hours or so then turning it off sometimes without saving because I like the option of selecting starters and picking different team of 6 Pokemon. Still ill be using this GBA system until it breaks and then I'll use my spare lol.
I personally think that platformers are generally boring af just varying level designs and lack of sense of achievement when playing them. Never been one for Sonic, Mario or puzzle games like Tetris and Pacman.
Also I did see your disclaimer about the pink box being you kind of no go zone but there are more elements to a game than Physical or strategy for me I focus more on fact and fictional historical events, immersive high resolution graphics and sound design, adaptability and scaling. I couldn't really care too much about pushing the buttons on my controller if the game is absolutely amazing in other aspects. Sometimes strategy is desired and sometimes not so much so its nice to have variety.
I like your example of the test on a thousand people but I belive that this would only provide you with data specific to proving the physical and strategic perspective of the games played. Maybe dobthe same test again and see with each genre which genre produces more on average Dopamine. To see which one makes the majority happier to play.
Actually it make sense and i think this explains why I don't like RPG games 🤔
Interesting video idea. In some sense, every game is a "role playing game" since they all require the player to take on some kind of role that it is imaginary. The leveling and progression systems that used to define RPGs are now not restricted to games outside of the genre. This is why you'll notice people calling everything from Just Cause and GTA to Final Fantasy and Star Ocean RPGs. I think a lot of these distinctions we make about video game categorization are ultimately somewhat arbitrary and based upon our formative gaming experiences. I grew up playing turn based JRPGs, so for a very long time, I really didn't appreciate the fact that a game could require much more physical input from the player while still having the same superficial RPG elements that every RPG required in my mind to be a RPG. The distinction between has become even more irrelevant nowadays since most RPGs coming out are not turn-based and are usually called "Action Role playing".
While role playing games is the name. It should rather be role choosing games. You choose your role as well as play it in rpgs. If a game has no choices to make gives you a gun and says shoot everything that you see till you see an end of story , it’s not really a role playing ( as you are not actively playing or decided the dialogue ) you are just watching things happens through eyes of someone. You controlling a character not really role playing.
The title had me rolling I had to watch
I feel like rpgs are only interesting If it requires strategy and thinking or if there's a clear goal to work towards.
Like for instance valkyria chronicles or SMT/persona or final fantasy are interesting because there's always things to work towards and they all require al level of strategic (some more than others) but other games like for instance I'm currently playing through Yakuza 7 and even tho I'm not too far into the game it's boring as shit so far I'm just running from place to place and having an occasional battle where I just use the same moves thus the combat feels almost mindless and requires very little strategy (this is on normal difficulty) I'm hoping as the game progresses it picks up pace and combat feels more interesting. I have very high expecting for the game as I loved every other yakuza game (yeah I even love dead souls the game is whacky as hell). But yeah to sum it up I need either or both some clear goals to focus on or interesting combat with at least some strategy in an RPG or it just bores the hell outta me. Feel like I should mention that an interesting story can drive me forward too.
Indeed, Megaten series rocks!
I differ, if the "strategy" in smt is summarized to buff my allies and then unbuff and exploit the weakness of the enemy because at a certain point that will no longer be strategic and will become the shopping list of the week.
Fire Emblem on the other hand does require strategy as some games in the saga that don't allow you to grind or take alternate paths, so if you have to complete the game in 20 chapters you have to know which characters you are going to optimize in those 20 chapters, that plus the permanent death makes you use your chess pieces in a smart way
You need to consider the aftermath. Taking that into account, the physical pressure of games with waifus in it is very intense.
One of the only ones I have ever liked was Undertale, and still not even that much, the combat was what saved it for me.
But rpg games are fun I don’t mind grinding you know what boring play thing the same thing over and over and over again trying to get a better time I’m joking by the way I live speedruns I don’t do them though they take way too much effort
pen-and-paper rpg > any rpg video game
yeah in normal difficulty is always boring 🕶
Every rpg game is literally the same thing over and over again
Do nothing
Beat enemies
Gain xp
Game overs sometimes
Retry
Gain items
Heal
Go to checkpoints to save the game (like mari, undertale stars and etc)
Defeat bosses
Gain more strong item
See the boring lore of the game
Walking through generic places
Get lost at generic places
Need a something to buy the other something
Said character will be lost at some sort of magical world and you have to save him or her
Boring endings
And the last thing ever
THE FREAKIN COMMUNITIES!
Agree. People, who play RPGs are far worse than RPGs, that they play.
Dude it drives me crazy, every F RPG game is the same, a fantasy world with dragons and aliens and shit, oh go somewhere talk to some npc, go there, get items, upgrade skills, get xp ffs .. unbearable.. RPG games destroyed the gaming industry..

Elden ring is a masterpiece though.
@Fabian Sosa yes
It's very confusing how he doesn't like rpgs and thinks they're boring..... While playing elden ring.
No

@@camharkness Elden Ring is not a masterpiece
Without prove they are already boring
This .... Kinda proved to me that you really don't know what an rpg is. At all.
Not that you don't like rpgs, just that you seem to think rpgs have no strategy or are basically all doing nothing.
Go play fire emblem.
Or kingdom hearts.
Or balder's gate.
You've played elden ring. That's legit an rpg. An action rpg.
Even games like final fantasy have lots of strategy despite being a turn based rpg. Go beat all the weapons in ff7 without doing any strategy and see what happens. Seriously. See what happens. I wanna see you do it.
And no. You can't prove that rpgs are boring. As it's a subjective thing.
Like how I find most fps games to be boring, there's very few I enjoy (outer worlds, the metro games, and bioshock. That's it.)
But you can't prove that it's boring.
That's all. I normally like your things, but this just..... No. Just a lot of bad takes dude.
None relating to you not liking it, but with how you explained it all and decided to be like "I've proved it" and "it can be proved"

@@waifurunslive you're right, stats in RPGs lowers the game's challenge, both physical and mental challenge, why practice your dodging skills or new strategies when you can just grind some stats to beat the next boss? of course in most RPGs you cannot win by just increasing your stats, you need to dodge bosses attacks in souls games no matter what your stats are and choose the right spell sequence in your turn based game. But does not change the fact that in RPGs the player skills and his character stats are in contradiction, the higher the stats, the lower the player skill required to beat the challenge and vice versa.
No
@@waifurunslivei hope you can grow up and realize u not liking a game genre doesn’t make it bad and whining about it online is like 100 times worse lol
