Thek ink whip is the best value bmx bike available. This bike is affordable while still being good value. for only $500 you can get a bike with full chromoly and double walled rims. its not perfect but in terms of value, you cant go wrong.

Been watching alot of your vids, 49 year old returning to bmx'ing after a 30 year hiatus.
As a returning bmxer, I started looking at bikes and seen how much had changed, so I wasn't sure what I was looking for.
The brands I knew and rode, Haro, GT, Redline, Diamondback, Dyno, Free Agent, were pretty much no longer the top dogs, alot of the brands were pretty much no where to be found.
Anyway, started watching you vids and the Kink Whip kept coming up, so I did the research using your guidelines and decided to pull the trigger on a 2025. Great choice...a little heavier than I like, but the bike feels solid as a rock.
I'm currently working on some upgrades to lighten it up a little.
Recently purchased some Sun Ringle rims, (Sun rims were around back then, so a name I was familiar with)
Profile elite hubs (another brand I'm familiar with)
Oddesey 49er 4 piece bars (could never really go wrong with Odyssey back in the day)
Eclat tires, (never heard of Eclat, but it sounded French and fancy)
Still have a few choice parts I'm going to upgrade, but its a start.
Anyway, thanks for what you're doing with your channel, us returning bmxers need guys like you doing research and giving ratings..
My next bike I'm already planning is going to be an S&M ATF or Dagger (really glad to see S&M still around) haven't decided which, but already gathering parts.
Anyway thanks for what you're doing. 👍👍
Btw....whatever happened to chrome bikes, doesn't look like too many companies offer that option anymore 😢
Back then if you had a chrome bike, you were automatically the cool kid on the block...😂

Hows your whip feel after the upgrades? I purchased a 2025 as well. So far it’s still stock.

    • @raptorking5452
      @raptorking5452 5 месяцев назад

@@cjsmreks its a little lighter. Not much..like ounces not lbs.
Due to wheel and tire swaps..
Went from stock 2.4 tires down to 2.2 tires...may still go thinner there.
Next up is Oddesey R25 forks and a lighter crank set I think...and cutting the bars down to 27.5 inches.
The wheel and tire swap give it a little more nimble feeling.
Maybe has something to do with rotational weight.
      Or maybe its just me...lol
Forks should make a big difference i think though.

@@raptorking5452 nice. I think it feels well balanced stock, though as you mentioned maybe a touch heavy. Thanks for the feedback

@@cjsmreks no problem. I'm just used to bikes being lighter i think.
I love the bike overall it is really solid.
Maybe I'm just a "weight weenie* as they call it. Lol.
Plus tinkering and modifying are part of the fun, kinda personalizing it.
      I think anyway.

Just got one a couple months ago and it's dope. It was super heavy, because of the Kink Severs. I put some Eclat Decoders and some Shadow Featherweight bars, now the bike just floats. Super light. It's my first BMX bike.

    A wild Doug appears!
Big fan of the Kink Whip, too, but would love if they added a female front hub for 2025.

You were not kidding about how much the tires suck. I was cranking hard on a loose dirt road, slipped, and almost face planted at the sacrifice of both my wrists. No bones broken, but I'm for sure swapping the tires once I recover.

I'm really interested to see how anyone buying this goes. I have a 2013 Whip that has taken a beating and never missed a beat. Bought the 2025 and the forks bent forward within an hour of riding. Replacement forks bent within a couple of hours riding. Waiting to hear what the solution is going to be because at this point I have no confidence in the forks that come with it.

The kink whip is definitely built for taller riders im 5'10 and my whip is a 20.5 and the geometry is perfect for my style of riding mostly street and dirt .can't really speak on how the whip fairs in the park.

I’m 5’10 about 170 lbs… I’m undecided cuz I want full chrome moly… I’m assuming I’d want the whip xl but if I pay just little more I could get the switch… now both bikes are more than I need but shouldn’t I jus go with the switch??? Strictly cuz of the top tube size…

Got my kink whip 2025 on Thursday, and I'm not impressed. It just seems like it was the last bike thrown together in the last 20 mins at the end of the day. Not only was it put together so horribly. The chains so tight, that the crank barely spins. The grips came pinched and deformed. And my non drive side crank arm, was threaded at an angle, since Thursday I have messaged kink with no reply, hopefully Monday when I call them they will fix my issues. But really its super disappointing. After paying 765 for the bike and another 224 in shipping and import. To get a bike that just doesn't represent them in the least.

    • @bmxnerds
      @bmxnerds  5 месяцев назад +1

Wide rims are cool if you’re brakeless! That’s a good questions though, I never thought about how they would work with brakes. Depending on the tire width you might need wider brakes or you might not be able to use brakes with them haha

I see maybe not for brakes I can't get my brake pad between my rim and my brake arm I can but it automatically starts touching the rim. The Wider wheel should probably come with a warning for brake Riders oops

@@jimblermicguffty5829 Try switching the washers/spacers around on your brake pad to see if you can come up with a combo that works for you. I've had to do this with some 40mm wide rims in the past.

Are you still growing? If not it depends if you want or are used to a more snappy smaller bike, if you are used to mountain bikes or just like bigger bikes then go with the xl version. But yes this bike will be a good fit for you just depends if you like a smaller bike, or a bigger bike, and if your still growing, if you are still growing get the xl version.

I think if you don't have a bike fine buy a complete one, if you do own a bike start building from an aftermarket frame, they will always feel like cheap Taiwan trash
