Many people are concerned, and we're getting messages about this every day. Here's a video of what our lives are like during this whole coronavirus scare.
Having the virus name in your title is rumored to cause demonetization.
You may want to change your title.
I just want Martina's backpack!!!
GUYS even in australia people are mass freaking out and even we have no toilet paper stocked anywhere, people are just overly panicking... All long life milk is off the shelves, people are just nuts.
@@CutiieDeviilX3 oh no really? are there even any cases in Australia yet? I haven't looked it up but I just wondered if you knew
Edit: never mind I just saw that there are cases in Australia and now you have no toilet paper!!! 🧻🧻🧻🧻 I'll be keeping you in my thoughts friend
Simon re your hands washing: you should also wash underneath rings! Lots of bacteria boxes there, great video otherwise ❤️
Health officials: wash your hands

@@eatyourkimchi I almost couldn't buy soap here in Sheffield, UK because people bought almost all of it. Like cmon you don't need 67 spare bottles of soap in your house when other people have run out completely (the funny thing is there has been 0 cases here) 🙄

I just realized Simon wasn't wearing a mask through this whole video??
This video really captures the relative quiet of the city. A more relaxed and pensive video than I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it.
I think the window watching sequence was one of my favorite parts of this video. Absolutely lovely
Thanks for being nerdy with me :)
I was just in Tokyo and surrounding areas last week. So little tourists everywhere, and those that are there are mainly Japanese tourists. Compared to the crowds I experienced 4 years ago, this was absolutely amazing! Some tips: If you have your hotel booked months in advance, recheck the prices now. I saved about $250 for my week-long trip. Also, some events/shops may be closed due to the virus, so check to make sure. I was planning on visiting Mazaria (VR experience) and found it closed when I arrived. Also keep an eye out on any restrictions from your country or airlines, if they may cancel the flights or have isolation periods. Otherwise, absolutely go for your vacation! It's so extremely rare and rewarding to see Japan without the crowds!
I miss you guys ❤️ Watching all the ads to support 😊
I also really like looking out of the train windows. Last summer my boyfriend and I took a train from Washington, DC to Syracuse, New York, and it was so beautiful and amazing. We saw so many animals in the mountains and cities cause we went through Baltimore and Philly and New York City.
This is a really nice optimistic positive
chilled out video
🧘🏻♀️
Awesome ✌🏻
🖖
I just wanna add my comment for anyone here looking for opinions on canceling their trip or still going. I am scheduled to leave out of New York on March 26th and still fully plan on going. I am young and healthy and have no fear in being sick. We are just remembering to take precaution with hygiene (especially with a 13 hour flight with no open air). The only thing that may stop us is travel regulations that may or may not change in the next 3 weeks. This is our second trip to Japan and are very much looking forward to being back!
Thank you so much for posting this video. We are supposed to be going to Japan on March 26th and we have been on the fence over what to do. It has been nice being able to see what is still open and available.
Same here. Safe travel!
kajitani13 Have you decided if you are going or not?
@@rinnerrabbit8577 i will yes.. im scared but seriously i go w travel agent and they dont want to refund my moneh
kajitani13 oh man brutal! There are lots of things you are going to see still! Check out Kyoto’s empty tourism campaign
Just my own opinion, but I do not think that anyone should go for a holiday internationally until the whole situation calms down. The main reason is that, if an outbreak does occur where you are travelling, there is a chance that your flight back home may be suspended. Additionally, your government may enforce a 2-week quarantine on your return home, meaning that you will have to miss out on work or school. With regards to the virus itself, I think it is best to urge caution, but not be in full blown panic.
I LOVE the filming style. Great work!
When in Japan window watching on trains rides are the best. Even on the shinkansen!😆
And here I am living in Finland panicking
How are you doing now with the stricter lockdowns? Are you keeping up with Canadian News? This first wave is said to go until summer! Ugh! Your film footage is really beautiful these days, btw. Hugs and love from a long time fan in BC. 💖💖🙌
Good handwashing technique Simon.......but you forgot one thing....washing underneath your wedding ring!!
Oh yes! I remember, the last set of videos I watched was of Simon hosting the typhoon. 🥺 I remember now!
Japan: No rice, no toilette paper, no sanitzer....wash your hands, wear the face masks. also Japan: here, help yourself with pickeld ginger in the open....no idea if someone sneezed on it...but anyways. it's tatstey
I'm coming to Japan in mid May, just hope the flights don't get cancelled 😭 i can't wait to go!! Luckily i didn't get tickets to anything aside from the plane xD and hopefully by mid May things are back to almost normal...also i live in Italy so i feel a strong bond with Japan right now 😂 stay strong guys we'll overcome this!!!
It’s kinda disheartening to see a popular place like ginza so empty. I wonder what other popular places like shinjuku are like at this time.
I'm in Minnesota (Canada's foot) and things are currently normal. No confirmed cases here but there was one in our neighboring state. Even though I have a lot of anxiety I'm not too worried yet, although I do worry about my dad (who is immune-compromised) if it spreads here too.
my art college just canceled our Paris abroad trip :( hopefully this passes soonish
What restaurant is that??? That beef stew looks Amazing
I was there in January and Ginza did not look anything like it does now 😨 sooooo scary...
You guys are so cool and so lovely
I'm about to go back to Korea soon (in a couple weeks) for college and i'm lowkey scared lol but I'm sure it'll be fine
Gotta redo that washing instruction but do it sensually. XD
*sees all the pens* that's the most glorious sight I've ever seen...
I do think that people are overreacting a bit when it comes to corona but seeing how people are becoming more aware of their hygiene and how this has reduced cases of many other diseases....silver lining I guess?
cant believe how lax japan is compared to china. restaurants open etc. as someone who is living in china i feel anxious just watching this lol

Healthcare professionals: Hey so... might just wanna stock up on some food just in case you get sick and can't leave the house for a few days :)
Citizens: MUST BUY ALL THE TOILET PAPER
apparently it's particularly dire in Japan because supposedly most of their toilet paper is imported from china and china has been shutting down/quarentining it's factories and workers that produce the toilet paper.
Nina Dees that was the RUMOR that started the panic. It’s been proved false so we should all refrain from continuing to spread it.
im staying in china and supposedly the material to make toilet paper is the same as face masks, since the main issue is masks, toilet paper is gonna go second. and to make said material, it takes 8months(from what i read in chinese article) but who knows whats the truth, everyone is buying masks and toilet papers....
You eat that food, eventually you will go to the bathroom.
Time to invest in a bidet/portable bidet~
People used to always act like I took too long to wash my hands. Look whos right on hand washing tactics now!
Well done for paying attention to good hygiene 👍🏻
Same! I’ve noticed more people taking longer when in the past I’ve seen a ton of people being super quick about it.
But... washing your hands does nothing against the Corona virus

Martina: Do you wanna go get a rainbow pen-
Simon: * already gone *
coronavirus is glorified cold xD
Rody in Japan Well no matter what it is , people have died from it and that’s bad.
The flu has killed over 14000 people in the 19-20 flu season. Corona virus is super mild comparatively.
Naomi Jackson True. But just because it’s not as much as flu comparatively, does not mean the corona virus is not bad. Anything people die from is bad. And plus the numbers all over the world keep rising. There’s no use in comparing it to other things instead of just dealing with what is going on now
@@naria2224 I'm not saying it isn't bad. Because it's so virulent, it poses a real threat to people. But it absolutely does not deserve the hype and subsequent panic that it is getting when flu strains are killing more people.
Me: Overwhelmed with all the color options at the pens isle, buys nothing, decides to go home to think about it.
Martina: Is a genius and buys a multicolored pen.

Stay alert not anxious
Sadly a lot of people get sick by other people not knowing how to propely cough. Use your arm, not the hand to cough people!
Important comment! Unfortunately I've seen people use public restrooms and walk straight out without washing their hands, especially at movie theaters. Gotta spread the word.

No Ads? On informative and serious bids? How are the Covid19 videos demoneytised? Abroad in Japan and yours... Makes me sad.
Yeah. No ads on this one. Oh well. I'm still happy letting people know what's going on.
Imagine people spreading misinformation and panic because the topic is popular and panic gets a lot of attention. We can't encourage that.
@@eatyourkimchi thanks for doing this guys! It's so important to let the globalised community know, what is actually going on! There’s plenty in America in my town so far, but I’ve been avoiding stores because of everyone getting sick. (Influenza A, The Flu and viruses are going around heavily)
Still got plenty in Finland! Starting to get close to 10 confirmed cases so it might get worse soon. :/ Hope you guys will be safe!
YES. At least you have Japanese toilets that clean your bot bots for you.
strangely, yes.. even though we produce toilet papers and even masks locally in Indonesia. The government currently are taking actions against people who intentionally hoards them to markup the prices
Thank you for directing people to reliable sources for mythbusting.
Ashley Briarwolf The World Health Organization is proving to be a less than reliable source... Also be aware: the WHO has a 425 million dollar incentive NOT to declare COVID-19 a pandemic, at least until June of this year (due to Pandemic Emergency Financing bonds issued by the World Bank). Another thing to be aware of: handling the narrative and keeping people calm and trusting of the authoritative bodies is always a consideration. Unfortunately, this is often at odds with giving people accurate information about the severity of the virus and its spread.
Damn the last time i was this early martina had pink hair

It is technically a pandemic though. Soo...Other than that we still have toilet paper but no soap or hand sanitizer LOL Also our gas prices have dropped nearly 20 cents in my area.
It's not though
@@countrye3013 lol okay 'A pandemic is the worldwide spread of a new disease. An influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus emerges and spreads around the world, and most people do not have immunity. Viruses that have caused past pandemics typically originated from animal influenza viruses.'
Taking the short definition, yes, it is theoretically a pandemic. However, it does not fit the official three criteria necesary to be declared as such as of right now. It has yet to officially be declared a pandemic by the WHO because there is not sufficient evidence of sustained spread from person outside of China. Most cases/clusters of cases have been traced back to China. However, it is likely that spread within communities on other soils will occur fairly rapidly, and I wouldn't be surprised if the WHO declared this a pandemic within the next couple of days. Either way, the situation wouldn't change much - it's actually a "good" thing to have a pandemic officially declared as it opens doors for more measures to be taken both nationally and internationally.
Yes. It’s a pandemic already, technically.
Pandemic means geographical location and spread of a disease, not how lethal/contagious it is
Oddly enough, here in Korea where we have the second-highest amount of confirmed cases outside of China, the only thing that is sold out is masks. Everything else is in stock. Maybe it's different in Daegu, though, where the epicentre of the virus is.
In my country, people started to panic so badly before we even had 1st confirmed case..That was like a week or two ago.. you couldn't buy anything. But now, when we have some cases confirmed, you can buy everything except masks.:D
Daegu here. Pretty much same here. No panic.
Even 5 months later this still feels really surreal as someone living in the U.S

Vashti Perry Ughhhh. I work in a computer lab at a community college. So many people touch their faces, then the keyboard, and back again.
PeepBunnies that’s because most people in the US were brought up where everyone was innoculated against most deadly diseases....they don’t know better
That is gross though
It’s not that simple.... the coronavirus is airborne.... doesn’t matter how much you wash your hands when you can get the virus just by breathing near an infected person. That’s what people don’t understand. Get edumacated. You people need to really learn cuz it not only affects your health but the health of other people around you. Oh and these masks don’t really help cuz they have holes that leak through, it’s just gives a false sense of safety. People actually need a respirator (closed off) and goggles.
waterflowzz I never said (and neither did Simon and Martina) that washing your hands was guaranteed to keep you from getting sick. It’s about the only thing you can feasibly do to protect yourself and others along with covering your cough and staying home when sick.

4:59 Simon skimped on the most important part! Thoroughly scrub your hands to loosen microbes AND thoroughly rinse to get them all off your hands. Rinse under water as thoroughly as you lather to have fully cleaned hands!
Even if you don't have access to soap, a thorough rinse under running water scrubbing your hands will get them cleaner. Soap is a surfactant so it helps loosen the dirt and microbes, rinsing sends them away. Scrubbing under running water won't get rid of everything, but it's better than nothing.
That being said, just a QUICK rinse under water (no soap) leaves your hands dirtier than if you didn't wash your hands. This is because there are microbes that live in your skin. When you flash rinse they crawl to the surface while any nasty stuff that was on your hands is still there. So now your spreading your nasty stuff AND your microbes.
Point is, wash your hands often and as thoroughly as you can and you, my friend, can be not disgusting.
But we're all nastys....
Martina: be protected IN STYLE 😂

lunayen obviously I wouldn’t want Martina getting sick. But your comment is completely scientifically bereft. The virus can only survive on surfaces for a short time so it is extraordinarily improbable that you’d get sick from that. But that aside, it was just a joke, way to make it too serious..
The stationary-game in Japan is amazing. When living in Japan I would literally walk around looking at pens and notebooks for hours, and I mean HOURS 😂 It's so much fun to find things that you use every day and that make you a little bit happier when you use them - like a pen with a cute cat on it. Everyone: wow, this is how Tokyo is like during a pandemic.
Me: Yoshinoya is legit!
Glad you guys aren't prevented from going out and living your best life despite the coronavirus! Fear is a real thing and too much of it is bad for everyone, Stay safe~~
I have to go back to China, Beijing on Friday...wish me luck
oh, good luck. I hope you'll be fine.
So are you done with your "WILL".. which sibling gets what and all..!!
coronavirus is glorified cold xD
@@rodyinjapan Can you name a COLD that have killed 3,000 in a span of 3 months?
@Aaron Z. I don't think anything that has something to do with 3,000+ dead people is a joke. 😣 Hmm, maybe you are?
When simon does the voiceover for martina it remindes me of the video you filmed in Australia and martina lost her voice and you were trying like vegan sanwiches :p it has the same vibe :p
In hindsight, six months after the original video, in response to "it's going to get better because it can't get any worse": Oh Martina. You sweet summer child. You know not what comes....
breaks my heart honestly
Martina, that Sailor Moon jacket is the most beautiful thing ever 🤩💕🏳️🌈
Honestly I would loooove a video all about Japanese stationary!!
The stores in Germany looks the same, no noddles, rice, toilet paper or instant soupe.
dini281 everything is normal in the Netherlands.
BS
pro tip (aslo german here): go to the asian supermarket, rice and instant food should still be in stock and.. tbh they are uncommonly empty regarding customers..
Where do you guys live?
My city is entirely unfazed 😅
@@bananarepublic6069 I live in Stuttgart. Most supermarkets are absolutely fine with stock here, other than hand sanitizer and masks. I heard that one supermarket apparently didn't have noodles anymore but the one right next to it has.
literally the only reason i've had to cancel is because everything i had tickets for is canceled/closed :c
That sucks.
Hope you get your refunds
@@bubbles2836 in the process of it now, so far so good hahaha
I went to Tokyo for holiday a few years ago and I miss this city but it really hit me hard in the last few minutes, just the train and the announcements. These trivial things brought back so many memories because that's where we were every day while going to different places... 😢
The best health tip is still the one my parents taught me when I was two: Wash your hands!
Hi Simon and Martina, I’m so glad you guys made a video about the coronavirus. So many people in the media are exaggerating this case. Thanks for showing what it’s actually like in your country! Love you guys a lot! 💪❤️
