I like that idea! One pot, with people around a table, and you can have conversations and stuff. Maybe I'll do a cheese fondue pot for one dinner this year
Can I get a shout for my cat who passed away after 21 human years of fluffy awesomeness just a few days ago. I would like to think her and spudgey are stuffing there faces and hanging out where ever it is that beautiful animals go when their awesomeness becomes to great for this world.

Easter is ham on the east coast of Canada but some people do turkey too if they're feeding a crowd.

Grew up in Michigan and always had eggnog, mulled spiced warm apple cider, peppermints, candy canes, banket (almond paste pastry), hot chocolate, and big full breakfasts with sausage, bacon, waffles, eggs, fruit, toast, hashbrowns... not an emphasis on dinner
Cool! We just eat leftovers on Christmas morning from the eve, and my mom makes Eggs Benedict (which I detest, so therefore, leftovers). The emphasis in French Canada is Christmas Eve...Christmas Day is a bit meh.

Pistachios were pricey when I was a child 40yrs ago....sooo it was a holiday treat to have pistachios...maybe a family tradition?
Mine too! My grandparents always bought some that were dyed red as well, so there were both red and green. I was really suprised when I found out the green ones weren't colored that way! Haven't seen the red dyed ones for sale in ages though...

In Italy pistachios are everywhere, ESPECIALLY during the holidays....not sure why. I prefer the American Christmas flavors like cinnamon and gingerbread

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS! AND YES! WE MISS CHRISTMAS SPUDGY! And ever since I got a dog, I dress him up for Christmas too. My family isn't Christian but we celebrated Christmas (when we were younger and didn't know anything) because everyone else did in the USA. As we got older and learned about Christmas, we continued to celebrated it but more as an excuse to gather the family around and hang out and hand out gifts. Happy holidays everyone!

Strictly speaking Christmas wasn't a Christian holiday it was the Victorians the religionised it... humans in northern Europe have always had a celebration around the winter solstice celebrating the coming of spring and longer days...

Yup, it's a very pagan holiday. Victoria's made it popular, but Constantine repurposed it from Saturnalia. Actually many different religions had a winter solstice type festival. The Nordic Europeans are the ones that the red and green colors come from. Animal and human sacrifices on evergreen trees. Red and green. To the demigod (Tamuz, the Sun God, Satan, many names) for strength as the sun hung lower and lower so the sacrifices were to heal him and make him rise (after 12/21 the days begin to grow longer and the sun sits higher). As a Christian I find it funny that Christians squabble over saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. But I love seeing the lights and having a tree and decorations to give a cozy and warm feeling. Christmas was a thing in December before mixing with pagan holidays. It was just a more simple event. As pagans converted they still wanted their winter celebrations so they used Christmas as the excuse to keep the parties. This was an organic process that became popular naturally, Constantine might have made it official but it was definitely in practice before then.
@@TheCsel not really. Constantine ruled around the early 4th century (320's, 350's AD). The apostles never celebrated Christ's birth. Even before the Roman's celebrated Saturnalia, the Babylonians even celebrated their gods (like Isis and Tamuz) during winter solstice. The first recorded Christmas was in 336AD during Constantine's rule. That's when the Catholic Church set it apart. Hence the name Christmas= Christ+Mass. Just like Easter and Lent are from Egypt and Babylon. And like Christine said, as a Norwegian they have Jul (is that Yule?) Which is an ancient pagan holiday. I still love celebrating Christmas but I always knew that it was never Jesus' date of birth.

Our family has always had pistachio as a Christimas snack (I'm from Finland). I've never thought of why, but I rarely eat them outside of the Christmas season. Maybe they're so expensive that it's something special to have it on Christmas. 😂 But the point about pistachio being green is actually very clever! 👌 Great video guys! 🙏

Such a good video, and now my comment will be buried, but I grew up in Atlantic Canada with Apple Cider, Egg Nog, and lots of cookies and fruitcake. We also had lobster every year (Xmas Eve), and turkey (Xmas and boxing day). The only thing we didn't have was mulled wine- seems more of an English thing- we had champagne instead. This year I'm making mulled wine! Because what's better in a cold December than WARM, SWEET WINE! love you guys xx

Yeah, you have to get acclimated to new weather. The first few weeks of 0 C are Real Cold, and then you get used to it. I'm currently used to -10 C, so 0 is quite nice (no hat needed) and -20 feels REAL COLD. It won't take long to get some temps at -35C though. I never get used to that.
I loved this. I have been struggling with my depression and anxiety lately and celebrating holidays as enthusiastically as I can is a huge part of building my ladder. I lost my dog and my oldest cat(10 and 13) within the past four months. They were a huge part of my support and I have their sweaters out and I got a good laugh over Meemers sweater and I got a good cry over your Spudgey message. I'm so thankful for your videos, they've gotten me through so much for many years! From times where I couldn't leave my house or bed due to my mental health to losing our pups around the same time. Thank you! I'm reminded how important it is for me to embrace this time of year. Even more determined to build my ladder and enjoy this Christmas. Eggnog is definitely a Christmas tradition for my family, but I know not everyone even likes it. So I guess it depends on tastes, but our grocery store sure stocks it up. Last couple of years they even started carrying pumpkin eggnog 😳 like what?
Eggnog, or warm apple cider for drinks and spice cake, peppermint, mint, and REAL fruit, fruitcake are usually part of Christmas for my family. I wonder what everyone else who celebrate Christmas have?
We have ham, casseroles, ginger thins (different from gingerbread), warm glögi (spiced juice), plum pastries and pistachios during Christmas in Finland. This year I'm spending it in Thailand, which is a tad bit different haha.
I've had a really rough last few days with my grandpa passing and a close friend of mine losing her grandma and I really want to thank you two for making me smile with your videos. I love that Christmas is summer here, as every year we have a huge bbq lunch followed with dessert with family. Sun is shining, kids playing outside, music blasting and everyone having a great day outdoors.
