Favorite spots on this one: red torii shrine - think I have it pinned already - and Asakusa Sumida colors. That night view on the water is one of my all-time favorites. I don't think we were in Tokyo, but my BIL has won an extra drink from one of those vending machines, so not scammy but rare. 😅 😂
I have actually won free sodas, cigarettes and ice cream from the vending machines. I might need a serious intervention about my vending machine addiction?
I only got here recently (during the rebuild of that small electronics shop) and it feels like I've known them both so long already. It just feels so natural!
Its always something special to just go out in the middle of the night for a bike ride. The cool wind and empty streets just feel magical. It can either feel like cyberpunk or silent hill depending on where you live lol
The couple dancing was so adorable and unique. Out of everything that I heard and seen about random events happening late night in tokyo, this is my first time hearing and seeing one like this.
Always love your night walk series but this time you are with Sherry and I really enjoyed Sherry’s point of views with her fresh eyes on Tokyo and your stories about each areas of Tokyo! Thank you for the great video Norm!😆

I'm japanese but I was born and raised in germany until last year when I moved to tokyo. as someone who lived in the countryside I was yearning for peace and solitude so I started going out cycling at Edogawa River past midnight between Koiwa and Ichikawa and I love how for that moment I'm truly alone (until you find out that some people are still around)
Oh wow, that must have been quite the difference you needed to adjust to considering there's not a whole lot going on in the countryside vs a giant city like Tokyo. Definitely a whole lot less peace and quiet with how many people live there. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland :D
As a night person, waking waking up late in Tokyo and staying out till the sunrise on a rooftop sounds like an absolute dream that I can't exactly get in NZ😂. Something about just being out at night just on your own adventure is so cool to me. Glad you show this part of Tokyo!
I was just rewatching your tiny apartment videos and got the notification for this video, perfect timing! Gotta love the nighttime vibes of Tokyo! The stars in the sky and the return of the giant red pylon surprised me as well, but especially the stars. That is something I would have bet money on not being able to see in Tokyo at night.
i took a brief 2am walk around Tamachi, after not being able to sleep, and the serenity is astonishing, and i never felt worried at any point, i wish i could go back
There is something special about the city, de-energized overnight. Have experienced this in NYC, Tokyo, and London alike. I lived in Tokyo for some years and enjoyed the quiet late night stroll without the noise, heat, and lights, in spite of living in shibuya-ku.. Rivers are really beautiful at night, particularly with the reflection of lighting from other sources. Sumida-gawa is one of the few rivers in Tokyo where can enjoy the night lights. Many of the other rivers have embankments, channels, or buffer zones, making them completely or nearly dark at night. Love your work - artistic and often carrying a fascinating narrative. When I move back to Japan permanently, hope to bump into you sometime.
i agree with everything! haven’t been to tokyo since 2019 but i enjoyed the night time the most. you can see everything without crowds and nighttime photography rules!
Mr. Norm , THANK YOU SO MUCH , for your videos. I have always wanted to go to Japan, but due to a 7-year battle with cancer , I am home bound. Your videos are my only way to experience the beauty of Japan. Thank you so much .Please keep the videos coming ❤

it blows my mind how safe and clean Tokyo is, from where im from you wouldnt dare walk around in the city morning hours. After 9 pm you dont leave your house. super impressed i have to visit Tokoy
My first night I was in Tokyo back in November 2023, I had arrived a day before the rest of my group (they had told me a date but they ended up buying flights for a day later lol). I was walking around at night just exploring and I found this exact shrine as well. It's so cool to just walk around and find something so seemingly out of place yet feels like it still fits. Japan is amazing and I want to go back so badly!
@@TokyoLens Highly recommend if you love Japan. The games 1-7 take place in their own versions of Kabuki-cho and Dotonbori, named respectively Kamuro-cho and Sotenbori. The locations are quite faithfully recreated.
I made the most of the jetlag when I visited Japan (twice) and went out exploring 1-4am the first few days, I was in Kyoto both times at first and it's just magical. Pure magic. ESPECIALLY Fushimi-Inari, when there're no people, just the gentle lights and the cool night air. Fully recommend it to anyone. Time it so you come down as day breaks, it's beautiful.
Ghost in the Shell vibes :) I was so close to visiting it one point. I had experience with modeling and in 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit this Japan... Great channel!
Norm, every time I watch one of your videos I'm just filled with joy! I can't explain it at all but I love it unequivocally. I've been mentally preparing to come to Japan for a 3 week holiday and I need to change a few things as I really need to do Tokyo after hours for a few days now... Seriously love this! It's also interesting to see Sherry's reactions as a fellow Japanese that's encountering this for the first time. Can't wait for the next videos to just sit and chill, experiencing Japan in all forms. All of the love!
Another great video that illustrates the lure and charisma of Tokyo. It's not the busy tourist areas that make it unique but the smaller quiet neighborhoods when all the people are gone.
I love a Sherry and Norm video. There isn't much more fun than traveling the streets at night feeling like you own the city because you're one of the few wandering around.
Between the railway and the bridge for cars/pedestrians in the finale is my favorite place during the morning and evening twilight. Especially at evening twilight in autumn, the shrine hidden in the park gets a beautiful lighting atmosphere.
Man this takes me back to your 2020 stuff, just chilling late at night with friend checking out the streets love it! keep up the good work! greetings from South Australia 👋
@@TokyoLens my request for places to take her would be the creepy vending machines you and Sharla went to years ago, the hidden shrine aswell as the bridge that was your favourite spot in that video. would love another roof top tour too!
Norm your night walks inspire me the most! I am currently in South Korea for the next year and this video has convinced me to make a few night walks to temples around me (and the back alleys, cause they're the best). Thank you for the inspiration and since I'm a short hop away, I plan on visiting soon.
Always enjoy the nighttime adventures, especially with Sherry! My favorite surprise was being able to see the stars. It’s so rare, even in small towns here, to be able to enjoy them unless you travel to the mountains.
I was just in Tokyo for the first time a few weeks ago and did a bunch of late night exploring, and I thought of your videos while doing so Norm. I was amazed at how walkable the city is given how many people live there, and how safe I felt while doing so.
Thanks for showing us sunrise from Tokyo. I am sure it is nice to show Sherry all the interesting sights you have discovered after living in Tokyo and re-experiencing it through her excitement and wonder. Great video, always enjoy Sherry's energy when she comes along for the video.
What a great idea! I loved the video, amazing vibe, and this is my favourite way of experiencing a new place as well. Just getting lost and looking at the smallest details and what makes people's daily life, rather than only big monuments and touristy spots.
Great Video and love Sherry's reactions to everything, just like seeing everything for the first time. Also how different the city looks between day and night.
Awesome exploring Tokyo at night, great for night photography and much less crowded. Always love your walks and exploring the vast range of Japan, your videos helped motivate me to move to Japan, I arrive in a few months and I'm now looking forward to exploring Tokyo at night myself.
This is how I want to spend my first night in Japan! I love these night walk videos you do, there’s something magical about Tokyo at night, from busy streets to silent back alley shrines, it just ticks all the right boxes for me!
Love your collaboration with Sherry, from the supermarket video in the early days to this. The content on you channel is awesome, thanks for taking us with you as you explore Tokyo at night
Fantastic seeing Sherrys reaction, and I had her exact same reaction when I came across random shrines! This should be a series, random places in Japan at night!
I've been to Tokyo as a tourist twice this year and I've made it a point to do a night walk at least once on both trips. Granted my night walks weren't as late or long as this, but there truly is something special walking around in a metropolis like Tokyo but without the big crowds and the daily hustle and bustle you see during the day. So many places we frequent as tourists have so much sensory overload that the stark contrast of a peaceful night just feels incredible.
Will finally be there in November, and one of the things I'm daydreaming about is a nighttime walk to explore the city just like this. Of course I got the idea from one of your older videos. And this one is inspiring me even more. Love it.
Great job, love the clip, I've done this sort of thing in a number of US cities and a shorter version in Tokyo some years back now, wow, love it, thank you!!!
I love watching these videos and figuring out where you went based on the signs and such. Hopefully it'll help Japan feel less unfamiliar if/when I can travel there.
This is so cool. I love night time videos. They show a whole different side of a city and it's both very liminal, and very human, because you can see how the city has grown and changed to make space for human lives.
Always love seeing a night walk, the city is amazing and full of surprises at all hours. “Garbage o’clock” got me 😂😂 It was great to see Sherry again too!! One of the few people who has no trouble keeping up with Norm!
On our Japan and Korea trip a few months back, we used klook to book a lot of things. (espeically when the international version of universals osaka, etc wouldn't let us get the tickets) I had never heard of them before and was a bit skeptical, but thankfully they were ok. some things we booked through klook a day in advance.
I live in Toronto and used to hang out downtown with my friends late at night. The city gets the quietest around 4-5am. It's such a contrast compared to the day time. So quiet and seems peaceful. Now that I'm older I'm still a night owl, but I'm usually at home being a hermit lol. The city is a lot bigger now, that was probably 15 years ago.
Would sometimes get chance to wander around when over for work. So often would happen across random local events. The graduation display for fireworks students was one of the more interesting. Just followed the sounds and ended up at sumida river on a week night for fried noodles and random fireworks
I would love to take a night time stroll via bicycle ride around Tokyo. It looks so serene and quiet. Stars looks so bright! A different perspective look. Something to consider for the next trip. Thanks Norm and Sherry!
Night walk and photography still on the to be done experiences list. Now to see what new places I need to add to that list. Have a great week, Norm. 💜✌️🐦
Hi Norm. Really enjoyed the video. The biking and hiking around Tokyo after midnight looks so inviting. The serenity and calmness probably cannot be fully appreciated unless one is actually there in person. Wish I could do a similar type of walking/exploring here in British Columbia but the nightlife is just too unpredictable and unsafe. Too bad things have deteriorated so much here but it is all the more reason to go visit Japan. Haven't visited since 2017 so I'm long overdue.
I was crying while watching this video. It's a mixed of emotions. it was even amplified by the BG music. there's something in Norm's night walks in Tokyo that transports me ino either Anime or JDrama. Keep it up Norm!
I used to love doing this in Japan. Visiting places during the day and then visit again at night. Like Yokohama, Kamakura, Enoshima and small towns around Kyoto… and Haruhi Suzumiya’s school lol
This was great, Norm! We stayed in Ginza back in January and can confirm it's still busy late at night. We loved the Kobinis being open as late, though haha 😀
@@TokyoLens yes, for sure! The convenience stores being open so late or 24 hours was a novelty for us. Apart from McDonald's, most things close around 9 or 10pm where we live.
Living in Japan, I sometimes see news reports about the few immigrants that have been accepted turning into mobs and clashing with the police and local residents. The time may be approaching when we can no longer confidently say that Tokyo is safe at night...
Just wanted to say, I love your vids. Been watching for years, Weirdly, I have this habit of watching up until around mid October - start of November, then I stop and play "catch up" on Christmas Day evening. Kinda like my "chill / comfort" wind down thing to watch after a hectic day lol. Keep up the amazing work!
I pulled out all my paperwork from my trip to Japan earlier this year and it made me feel so homesick for Japan. Thanks Norm and Sherry for this night time tour. I have to figure out how to get back there.
WOW Tokyo Lens You DO NOT get it wrong AT ALL! Thank you for MAKING THIS EPIC AND EXTRAORDINARY NIGHT WALKS. I GET IT I was able to feel the energy, the appeal, the king of "selfishness' vibe to get the streets and locations for the self / the mine. Yeah Sherry Sherry Lady is a great addition great company and awesome addition to make this format of videos! SO great selection of places. I think this walks are very romantic and cold be for glorious moments if one does it in COUPLE mode! Thank looking forward for the NEXT one!
This reminds the time I stayed in Shinbashi and the first I walked to edge Ueno and back. As soon as I stepped out of my hotel a few group of guys on motorcycles zipped by. I remember that same shrine tucked away too. Next time I'll have to try cycling around at night.
Since it was only about 30 min by foot we went to Asakusa around midnight last year. sooo much fun and you can actually take a closer look at the Temples details without feeling pushed around.
Amazing, Thanks Norm and Sherry for the wonderful night tour of Tokyo 🙌👏. You certainly couldn’t have done that in most similar size cities in North America 🌎. Brings back memories of some of the times I explored German cities at night 🇩🇪 while stationed with the US Army in Heidelberg 👍
Thanks for the video! I would love to do the exact trek for my last 2 nights in Tokyo to readjust my sleeping pattern. I have never seen the sunrise in Tokyo so I will be looking forward to it :)
Just came back from Japan to NZ today. I stayed in a hotel near the the Asakusa Station just around the corner from the river. Love the Tokyo night Lights and V Vibe.

Night walk and photography still on the to be done experiences list. Now to see what new places I need to add to that list. Have a great week, Norm. 💜✌️🐦
I should hold a Tokyo Night Walk event haha
@@TokyoLens I'd pay for that!
When I go to Japan next September, this is a big motivator for me, night exploration and daytime side street exploration
We loved the Kobinis being open as late, though haha 😀
crazy at night eh?
mind you conbini are pretty much 24h country wide!! (with a few exceptions of course!)
@@TokyoLens yes, for sure!
The convenience stores being open so late or 24 hours was a novelty for us. Apart from McDonald's, most things close around 9 or 10pm where we live.
Theses Night Adventures are Awesome and you picked the perfect companion .Sherry is a Gem.
Glad to see it's still safe to walk around Tokyo late at night as I used to do some decades ago. Hope this never changes.
Living in Japan, I sometimes see news reports about the few immigrants that have been accepted turning into mobs and clashing with the police and local residents.
The time may be approaching when we can no longer confidently say that Tokyo is safe at night...
Tokyo midnight tour are my favorite. Thanks norm 👍
I love Akihabara the most too, its one place that never bored me to visit
The shrines in the middle of skyscrapers in Tokyo are so cool. We loved the Hie Shrine in Chiyoda City.
This video was a whole vibe! Beautifully chill and the music was really complimentary ❤
Tokyo at night is a truly special kind of atmosphere, enjoyed the video a lot. Also great music choice!
Sherry is such a joy to watch and listen to.
The music was so on point. It was perfect.
Also, bonus points for using the phrase "The cake is a lie".
Love the Tokyo night Lights and V
Vibe.
It is my first time watching this type of video. It is great and the night stars 🌃 are amazing.
if you enjoyed it, there's a whole playlist!!
