      My RG3520ze plays SO much nicer than my Les Paul Custom. The only guitar that compares is a Music Man JPX I had for a while. Personal taste, of course. The necks on even the entry-level Satriani Ibanezes are ridiculously comfortable.

      Paul Rogers “entry level” satriani Ibanez.
      The only thing making JS series entry level was the fact that they put his name in a fret. Other than that (and an obviously heavily worn teen) mine is perfect. Although I managed to get my hands on a first generation js100 so I can’t speak for newer models

      Do you know what's really weird? The kind of tone you need to feed into a djent-y kind of setup - not much bass, and really watch the mids - they often call it a scooped sound, but it's actually FLAT - just in comparison to other guitars, because most have such boosted mids, just from wood choices and electronics. The "correct" tone you need at the start of a metal rig is EXACTLY the same tone that jazzers like, just clean, flat, accurate - Pat Metheny would sound great on this. Hell, so would Buddy Holly - that'll be the day. Garcia... Mark Knopfler could eat this up.

    • @dylanzrim1011
      @dylanzrim1011 5 лет назад +12

      RG stands for roadstar guitar.
      S stands for slim.
      The numbers denote it’s trim level
      I have a series 2 roadstar (modded) I play between that, my epi LP custom and a JS100 but the RS has a soft spot in my heart, it’s modified, but it was done back when new so the modded parts are vintage parts 😍
      Nicest sounding guitar I’ve got, roadstar series are incredibly underrated and overlooked when someone’s trying to find a vintage Strat type

    The grounding wires inside the pickup cavities are there to connect the shielding paint in the cavity to the common ground (Gibson doesn't shield it's cavities so they don't do this, but Fender does). This is done mainly for single coil or split humbucker situations where the pickup would pickup 60 cycle hum otherwise. Essentially it creates a little Faraday cage for the coils. Humbuckers with metal covers do pretty much the same thing.

  • @dimebagtribute
    @dimebagtribute 3 года назад +1

    It's a poplar burl top! And the back is what is called an "open pore" finish! By the way if you want to shield your pickup cavities you have to connect them to the main ground as they did, as each cavity shielding paint is not touching anything connect to ground if they didn't connected like they did...

    The first guitar I bought back in high school was a 2011 Ibanez RG471AH. It has a natural ash body with a super thin clear coat, making it look like a plain piece of wood, which is very unique. I still play it to this day. Gibson and Ibanez are my two favorite guitar companies, because they just always put out beautiful guitars with great finishes.

There's always someone yelling on the internet that you have to shield everything. The only place you really need it is where you have signal running through unshielded wires more than an inch long as is typical of a control cavity.

    I started playing around 91’ and my first guitar teacher quit teaching so I got another teacher. The first guy was a bob dylan wannabe and my second teacher worshipped Eddie Van Halen and Neal Schon so a huge contrast in styles. My first guitar was a cheapo acoustic (were there any other kinds for starting players?) and my second teacher felt that until my father bought me an electric guitar (1993 peavey Predator) I needed to have an electric guitar to practice with so he had 2 Stevie via Jems from 1987. He had one that was blue and the other was hot pink with green and pink inlays. The pink guitar was worth a lot even back then and his favorite was his blue Jem so he lent me his very expensive electric guitar and even back then all I could think was “the neck is WAY too thin” I mean with the Floyd Rose bridge and other features I honestly was surprised it was capable of any string tension. It didn’t feel like I was playing the action was that loose, light, and low. It’s a guitar built for shredders but when I got my peavey Predator (I still have it) it felt great to me. Even today I like my necks think like a baseball bat in reverse. I used to play .13’s when I was younger but now I play on .09’s and I’m much happier with that and I still get great tone. I’d play .10’s if I felt there was a better difference tonally but there’s not. To this day I can’t play and enjoy an Ibanez because of how thin those necks are

    Hate to say it but this right here is a classic example of what you should get for $600 - $800, Gibsons in the $1200 - $1400 price range should fall into a similar price bracket with regards to specs, build quality and features. Before anyone loses their shit, you can add $300 or so for the "Made in the USA" tax, higher labor costs and overheads do make a difference but honestly, a $1200 Gibson is about $300 - $400 overpriced for what it is and the specs it sports. There is a good reason Ibanez in particular was sued by Gibson back when, they made better guitars for less money. Every "pre-copyright era" Ibanez I have ever played has been an absolute gem of a guitar, easily better than similar era Gibsons.
    5 piece neck through, DiMarzio pickups, brilliant fit and finish and versatile tonally in a way very few Gibsons (certainly none in this price range) can match. This is a killer guitar, nice trade Trogly. I do get that the design and finish isn't for everyone, I prefer the LP shape personally 😉
    I still love the Les Paul, SG and Flying V from Gibson but as a player that has financial obligations outside of my hobbies Gibson has priced itself out of my collection. After the recent "play authentic" garbage I don't see myself supporting them at all moving forward. I had been planning on replacing my '98 Les Paul Standard that I sold a few years back (what a guitar that was) but now I don't feel I want to support the big G and it's BS, I think I will pick up an Ibanez LP style guitar instead. It's about the same money, more in some cases for what I am looking for and won't be sporting what is rapidly becoming a negatively associated brand name.
    Come on Gibson, take your head out of your ass and focus on making your customers happy rather than padding your bank account at the expense of whatever the hell you please. I hope they lose all their suits and they lose the copyrights to everything but their headstock design, they already lost the V in Europe. That will force them to focus on making better guitars rather than simply trying to kill the competition so they don't have to.

    After leaning on a cheap starter bass i began looking for a better guitar. I looked at so many in the $1,000 AUD range, but most of what i saw wasn't much better quality than my cheapo. Yes they had better pickups etc, but that about it. Until i came across a new Ibanez sr405eqm Bass. The quality control and finish is amazing. It plays beautifully and is so versatile. I had to go into the $3000 AUD range and higher to find something similar from the more famous brands. As long as Ibanez keeps selling guitars of this quality for the price, they have a customer in me.
    P.S. AUD is Australian dollars.

    I love Ibanez basses and I've wanted a talman guitar since the 90s. You have to try them out because they aren't all perfect, but if you're patient you can get a near perfect guitar for under a grand. Then you don't feel bad about gigging it and getting dings. They're the Honda/Acura of guitars!

    My second guitar ever, and first real guitar, was an RG270dx with a wizard 2 and it felt so comfortable and fast. I sold it many years ago. Then last year I found someone selling an RG370QMSP which was apparently a spot model not in their catalog. It was similar, had a wizard 3 which felt familiar to what I.was use.to. But its cheaper Edge 3 trem system sucked..definitely a step backwards. Had it blocked the first week. Also the infinity 3 and 4 pickups weren't very good. I ended up buying a PRS

    It's vitually impossible to shield the canal the pickup cable goes through, so making the ground connection at the bottom/shielding paint, will get the grounding complete. It's quite a feature on a low budget humbucker guitar, it speaks of quality ;-)

    About using metal pick-up rings; yes they can effect tonev ! It depends on metals of both magnets and ring. This even happens with metals that one would think otherwise. Even gold plating can effect the shape of the magnetic field of AlNiCo magnets.

    The Ibanez name was sold to the Japanese following the destruction of the factory in the Spanish civil war.
    The metal pickup ring might have an impact on the sound after all just look at the Tele bridge Vs the one on the Strat. Might be minimal though.

    The "burl" or pock marks are just kinda groovy to some wood enthusiasts & some guitarists. No 2 are identical & therefor unique. Kinda along the lines of "relic" one of a kind thinking...
    My 1st Ibanez was a brand spanking new Artist I bought on payments from Beach Music, Huntington Beach, CA in 1979. My only Ibanez now is an RG370 (Korea, maple/basswood) I bought in '03 for a birthday present to me ;) I haven't looked at it for a while but I think I swapped the bridge pickup out for a DiMarzio "Joe" or "Evo" or something in '08. I've always enjoyed the quality of the Ibe's I've had, but I think when I break the 370 out of mothballs I wanna swap out the floating trem. If I recall, the stock one was a real PITA to work with (intonation, string lock, etc...)

I even own a EGEN8 that was used on the Maximum Overload tour by Herman Li (Dragonforce). He replaced the bridge to an edge pro and pickups to his signature models before I got it and it sounds 100x better then the retail version.

    You should check out one of the Joe Satriani Ibanez guitars if you get the chance. The neck profile on that is a more traditional shape. I've had a JS1000 for about 10 years now and it's a workhorse and extremely comfortable to play. The tremolos on the Japanese models are much better than the cheaper models with Ibanez. I was never a fan of the Wizard necks on the 6string RGs or the thin necks on S series too but strangely love the 7string Wizard neck. How does that work?

    The problem I have with the Ibanez Iceman I own is that neck is VERY thin, I can literally get a tremolo effect just by bending the neck back and forth! When you can make an A power chord and then by just simply twisting your wrist you bend the neck and get a vibrato type of sound, yeah that's thin! LOL, but hey, it's still holding up after 4 years. Of my regular electric guitars my Iceman is my next favorite to play other than my Les Paul's.
    Yeah I'm with Austin, I don't like the tuners only being on the treble side but they do that to be different but also because of the way their head stocks are designed thats the straightest line from the neck.

    I collect Fenders but i also had an art glass hobby long ago. In 1876 New England glass made 3 types of peachblow, Wildrose was the name, a satin, a matte done with acid and an "Agata" finish which was down with oil spotting. Looks a lot like your Ibanez, and Oil spotting under the Lacquer makes some sense. Can't post a link or it will get wiped. Just google New England Peachblow Agata and see if the pics and or process might have a commonality.

    You cannot compare a Glarry to a Ibanez !! I just purchased in June the Ibanez RG421AHM Blue Moon Burst its a Hard Tail as well . The only problem was the Blue Moon turned into a Emerald Green Burst actually better looking then the Blue ?? It was set up perfectly out of the box and I was able to shred within minutes of unboxing . Ibanez are quality Guitars no matter the Price ! I been playing for about 35 yrs. and this new Ibanez plays and feels better then Guitars I paid Thousands for . I got this one for $399 and may put locking tuners and a EMG 81 in the Bridge down the road that's just for my personal tastes it screams with factory pups so anyone who is looking at the Model I got do Not worry !! I like this channel but to compare $61 dollar Glarry's to any Ibanez is a Offense to the Guitar GOD's lol . No it really is but since your not a shred guy that explains you not knowing & Ibanez handles country and blues styles just fine as well they are utilitarian basically & the necks are just perfection imho !!
