    Conclusion is great! Car journalists complain for nothing (after 2h test drive) compared with Bjorn who already drove it for thousands km. Yes plastics are cheap & infotainment still buggy (even though it will improve) but who cares when so many things are soooo positive and you can drive to arctic circle fast, safe & comfortably.

      @fjalics 4 года назад +27

      The Model 3 software was buggy too, in mid 2017. They absolutely should keep upgrading it, and adding features, like a strong regen for one pedal driving. I loved it when Tesla added the option where the car would come to a full stop if you took your foot off the accelerator.
      Here is my conclusion. It's no Tesla killer, but it's no slouch. People who get one won't want their gas or diesel cars back.

      @@fjalics well...any cars that claimed to be a "Tesla Killers" were all some super dubious crappy startup that spend more on marketing than anything else. The ID3 is just a normal very decent electric car.

      I just can’t understand why so many car manufacturers decide to use extremely slow cpu in their infotainment system just to save 10euro on a 50k car. I tried Volvo xc40 and the infotainment system was extremely slow and laggy.

    • @omfghai2u

      @@LpG88 They want the HW to consume as little power as possible so it's kinda understandable. There are already a lot of 12 V battery problems with different EVs.

    I recently had back to back test drives in a Tesla Model 3 Long range and a VW iD 3 First Edition (58kw). The Tesla certainly has the technology, infotainment and the looks. Acceleration performance was simply mind blowing, so much so that one particular overtake was so fast i felt nauseated! Couple that with the very firm suspension and 19 inch sports wheels I got the feeling that as a long distances were not as comfortable or cosseted as those in the VW ID3. For me at least on those test drives, the VW wins hands down for comfort, quietness and ease of driving. As an every day car, the VW seemed the most comfortable, would anyone else agree with that?

      I see your point and respect your choice, but considering the overwhelming Tesla superiority in all fronts, not to forget the crash test at which Tesla was rated as the safest in the world. But I do not understand the rationale behind your choice. Are you sure you have been fully informed of the incredible conveniences offered by Tesla?

      @@sat7755 I am fully aware of Tesla’s vehicles incredible abilities, including the MS, MX and M3 being rated as the three safest cars ever tested by the NHTSA. I am both a shareholder and a Cybertruck multiple reservation holder and have been driving electric cars exclusively since 2013.
      I was testing a Model 3 LR with a view to purchase when the opportunity arose for me to complete back to back test drives with the Tesla and the VWiD3 I jumped at the opportunity. I drove the same route for both vehicles on quite poorly maintained, rural bumpy roads and upon completion was shocked at how much more comfortable and relaxing the VW was to drive. I travel at least 20,000 miles a year for work, so safety is or the utmost importance to me, but I’m amazed at just how comfortable the VW was in an immediate back to back comparison. Yes, the Tesla wins on almost every other metric including range, infotainment, performance, handling, looks, crash safety, acceleration, power seat adjustability, etc etc. I’m still a bit shocked at how good the VW was, I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience as I have?

    • @sat7755
      @sat7755 4 года назад

      @@batandball617 I had not all the extensive experience you had. For me it was just enough to look at the crumpled VW ID3 its cheap interior and the price that left me shocked. At $25.000 the VW could be considered a fair deal , but up to a model 3 price, if I had bought one I would have felt robed. But I will not criticize your perceived motive for buying the over priced and under performing VW, for that is another privilege to live in a free world. Good luck to you, and thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

    It has been about more than 10 years that I have not put petrol / gasoline in the cars that I have / had. I only put ethanol since it is cheaper, but the consumption is higher than with gasoline or any mixture in it.
    Speaking about Norways, I would still like to do a road trip over there. I've only been there to do the touristic stuff. But I've already did some great road trip in Europe and North America :)

Then a country side road trip or long distance drive can be more complicated or chaotic if no big battery or Tesla superchargeur good network. In the end almost all cars with 50+kw do the job but they require different planning when driving more than 200km one way.

      ID3 is actually faster than Kona. The reason for it is because ID3 charges faster than Kona on HPC. And it uses a little less energy than Kona. And on 50 kW fast chargers, ID3 can average 48-49 kW flat to 80 % because of higher pack voltage. Whereas Kona starts around 42 kW and goes slowly towards 48 kW because of lower pack voltage. And Kona also starts throttling at around 75 %.

      Another workaround would be to add a waypoint nearby your start point as the destination. That way it calculates the whole trip as one route.

      Waypoint 2: destination city
      Waypoint 3: Startcity, Street yx

      You are aware that it's another 1050 km from Arctic Circle to North Cape, right?

    +1 for 28kWh ioniq, even better with the guy's car with tow hitch. You might be away for a while though so I understand if that’s too long especially in winter. Maybe proper camping with Wifee next year?

    En runde med kolonnekjøring over Haukeli eller tilsvarende hadde vært fint for å sette søkelys på komfort i en moderne elbil når været utenfor går åt skogen.

    I'm sorry if it was mentioned in this or pt. 1 ... but how long did it take the ID3 to do the trip up north? ... A few videos ago my guess was 14hrs and 15 mins due to poor weather on day 1 (faster than the Polestar2 but slower than the Tesla M3) ... it didn't end up being that bad for the second half of day 1, so maybe a bit quicker?
    EDIT: this car did climb up my shortlist for sure ... still don't like the looks or the infortainment area (or VW/German cars in general) ... but yeah, the trip was impressive.

      @@bjornnyland I did the other day ... but I see where I made the mistake in calculating journey time, I thought the time was to the Polar Circle (+45 mins + charging time from the end of pt 1), not the Mo i Rana charger itself.

      Nope, it will probably be about 30-45 minutes slower than Tesla still.

    You can pull the passenger seat forward and then recline the back completely, that will give you about 8ft of flat surface to sleep on. I wonder why you didn't try it.

    Thanks for the video. Is that a better route planner basic or paid for ? As I’ve tried to plot 3 different journeys with the free version and had silly suggestions like change for one minute and on two separate journeys it suggested it change to say 60% then arrive with 0% ! Also arrive at destination with 2% that’s just bad advice in my opinion you should not arrive charger at less than 10% in my opinion with uks crap charger network reliability ! And bad for the battery . Anyone know how to set it up not to be so stupid took ,me ages to try and get to avoid Ionty but wish it was like zap map gave you choice of 3-5 charges within 5 or so miles near Selected stop . If I’m going to pay for it , it needs to be lot smarter . Need help setting it up for Zoe ze50 please thanks
