    With no disrespect to Jaime, this is probably my favorite video, Kevin. As a pilot-wannabe, this was incredibly informative. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put these out for our enjoyment. "That's what the yoke looks like. That used to be the thing that I touched to fly the airplane... before I was replaced... by that guy". Priceless!

    What a great video Kevin. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the cockpit and your explanation of the gauges, etc. Thanks so much for allowing us to ride along with you. Kevin, thank you for the walk through of both the new and the older systems. From my high school years in Rome, GA, dad and I flying out of Russell Field, Skylane later Twin Aero Commander, my true fascination or love was for the 310's. They would capture my attention instantly. There is a beauty about these babies that just rings my bell today. I love that you are sticking with your beauty and are willing to update her . Though a TN Vol, I do want to wish you both a wonderful Easter, my Bulldog friend !

      You're welcome William! Here comes some small world... My grandfather helped build the airport there at Rome. My whole family is from Armuchee (where the airport is). I fly there regularly for family reunions and to visit. The first flight I made when I got my license was flying my mom there to visit her mom. Happy Easter and Go Dawgs!

    Talk about a game changer. You having time to show us around was great. The updates you intend to make to the dash, make a lot of sense.
    On the first boat I drove with an autopilot, named it Jeff, after a helmsman I use to work with. Every time I'd turn around and check, it was off course and we were making corrections. Always keep watch on the crew around you, human or electronic.
    Thanks for the episode. Hope you guys have a fun Easter.

I grew up in a 1964 310i Model (N8006M) from new thru 1970 or so with my Dad (a 30K ATP Rated Commercial Pilot) and although it still sported the old panel it all seemingly is very familiar as you have presented it! Thank you and glad you enjoyed it sir! I really like the idea of modernizing her while still keeping many of the old features. As long as I can...I'm not keen on the idea of dumping money into the old engine instruments and may go digital to replace them one day and if I do that, I'm going to miss them. I do plan on keeping my digital version of the 6 pack though. :) Happy Easter!

      310 Pilot Kevin, when finished it's going to be an amazing 310 to fly. Taking that workload of the pilot is so important to situational awearness. I have some old pilot friends who say that all this glass cockpit stuff is rubbish. My reply is that they are not flying in todays congested airspace. The workload now, in and out of busy airports like 'Sydney International' is much higher than it was in the late 70s when I learnt to fly. My first solo flight into Sydney, I was nervous but it was doable. Any help you can get to improve your safety is a plus in my books. Can't wait to see it all done. I wonder what the original designers of the 310 would think of their design and the changes being made today? Very happy I would think seeing your videos. Cheers mate!

    Great video Kevin! Amazing tour around the flight deck of such an iconic aircraft! I fully understand the need for modernisation and I know you are excited about your plans for upgrading the 310 with more than just the new autopilot, but I personally would be worried about making too many changes. The 310 is indeed an iconic aircraft. By making too many changes to the panel, I would suggest that it could be in danger of losing its iconic status! Also, if you ever sold it to someone who wears glasses, the loss of some of the basic T-panel instruments (what you call the six pack) might not be good. I guess also I was surprised at the way many of the switches were “jammed in” somewhat in almost inaccessible places! Cool if you know the aircraft like the back of your hand, but potentially dangerous if you are new to the 310! The autopilot is really cool and a great addition to the aircraft - so long as you never forget how to hand fly her! At the end of the day, it’s your aircraft and you know what you want in her and how you want it set up - so I only comment as an observation from an unskilled outside observer. But I follow your flights because not only do I find myself liking you and Jamie, but the 310 holds a special place for me from another time. I would hate to see 177BC changed beyond all recognition! But I am excited for you and Jamie. This will make your next hop down to the Caribbean a lot more relaxing!! Looking forward to part 2. Take care. Regards from across the Pond

      Glad you enjoyed it Lee! I'm trying to balance a bit of old school and get the added safety benefits of the new school. Now days people are able to rip everything out of the dash except a TXi and a GPS. I like the idea of keeping the 6 pack (even though a bit is modernized...no more slowly tumbling gyros to worry about). Hopefully in the end you will think its a good balance of old and new as that is what I'm aiming for. :)

    Throw in a flush mount kit for your G5’s when you cut the new panel if you have room behind. Still a strong resale market for the 530/430s. I’d keep them in personally since they still work but if you’re looking to trade them out I’d do it sooner rather than later before another market downturn. You’re getting really good at editing these videos. Harder than flying in my opinion.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the suggestions! I'll keep the flush mount in mind. While the 530/430 works fine, they've gotten about 20 years on them now and I'd rather go before the next downturn as you mention. After playing with the new boxes, they really have made some great improvements. I agree....the flying is the easy part...editing is the hard part. For me for sure. :)

      Glad you enjoyed it Bristo! I've had several request for this but didn't have the ability until I got the 3100 to fly the plane so I could make it happen. :) I will try to include that in an upcoming video and it the mean time, I think if you find my older video that says something like full unedited flight, it has the run-up there.

    Sweet to see you so thrilled with the new autopilot and the mods done to date. Thank you for filming the flight, editing the footage and explaining all your decisions for gear and function so completely.

It's exciting for sure. Happy Easter to you and your family!!

    Thanks for the cockpit tour. You either read my mind or saw my last comment (kindly) requesting a tour. This kind of video is catnip for another pilot. Love the layout of your plane. What? No cup holders? Still? For twins, the 310s were always intuitive. Friendly. Still kind of smile at how the master switch is tucked away, discretely, as though the 310 is keeping a secret. Recommend you try to keep at least one piece of original instrumentation when all is said and done. For luck. (The backup attitude indicator in the six pack looks original.)

      Ha ha...you're not alone Lauren. A lot of people think that. Even people that fuel the plane sometimes. :) I felt like the music was fitting considering what I was going through at them moment. I really like my mix between small glass and old school 6 pack. It works out well for me. :)

    Easily the BEST video yet! Loved the tour. I have a quick, stupid question though... while everyone should lean for taxi to keep the plugs from fouling, to you run up with the mixtures leaned? Is seems you always enrichen before the take off run, after you come back from the super secret run ups...

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you John!!! Glad you enjoyed it. I do run up with the mixtures leaned and they go forward for takeoff. I usually just cut it out for time reasons as I figure people don't want to see the pre-flight run-up each time. :) I did post it on the flight I called full unedited or something like that. I operate the red knobs pretty much exactly as Mike Busch suggests. He says to have it so leaned that it will barely do the run up but stumble if you apply full power.

    • @SkyKing58318
      @SkyKing58318 5 лет назад

      @@310Pilot That's very interesting! As you might have guessed, I'm an airplane geek, and a only a PPL, ASEL. The Skyhawks and Archers I rent require full rich on run ups, but I never knew why. I'd like to get some A&P thoughts on that, because as long as you're not full power, I presume you're fouling the plugs when full rich on the ground. Keep these video's coming, and say hi to the Controllers that go out an make presentations - just when you went to TX for the 3100, they came to our CAP Squadron and made a presentation. Would be cool if you could come out to one of our meetings - Friday's at Fox Valley Composite Squadron at KDPA.
