When I was a young teenager 50+years ago,circa1972, my father and I went for a flight in that very airplane while we were attending what was then called the EAA Annual Convention and Fly In. Thanks for the great footage and the memory.
Incredibly advanced for its time. More incredible that it's still flying. My wife and I flew in this plane a couple of years ago. Much more comfortable than a car on early roads, no doubt. Pilots look about as casual as in a big C-182. A bit hard to see but the outboard engine gauges are on the strut. Could watch oil pressure and RPM in real time. My flight was pretty much like the video, 80MPH climb, 80MPH cruise, 80MPH approach. The wonder of flight. Awesome!
If you read about how hard it was for a number of folks to get to places like California in the 1930s for work, etc., I can only imagine how many businessmen with enough money would have gladly paid the cost for a ride on this bird. The only other non-treacherous option in many cases were the passenger trains.
lol, I don’t have a ton of aviation on my channel, but my son is wild about it and so it definitely “lands” on here. I have a few more coming from Oshkosh this year!! Thanks!
@@supergamer1122 Cool, a surprising amount. I'll look into them, thanks. The whole airship seems designed for efficiency but ended up classically beautiful. Not surprised it's still flying.
@@paulbervid1610 it’s amazing how many people have stories about a flight in a tri-motor from many many years ago. Very fun they are still taking people up in them!
Riding the tri motor at Osh is such a pure experience 👌 We tried to get tickets for the Mitchell or B-29 this year but they were sold out. Book in advance!!!
I rode in a Mitchell bomber at a small air show about ten years ago, signing up at the event. Well worth it. We took turns crawling into the nose via a short tunnel. Except for a helicopter, you don't get a view like that in an airplane.
I got to fly that Tri-Motor about 7years ago. It was at my local airport GPHD for an EAA fly in. I flew it form the right seat on Sat and Sun. The pilot was from our local area. He was also an flight instructor. So he put in my logbook.
About 40 years ago one of these planes was at a WACO reunion at the Wynkoop airport in Mt. Vernon Ohio. My Mom let both of my brothers and I take a flight. Flew over town and that was my first experience with seeing things from above. No google maps back then lol So I had no idea what that view looked like
You’re welcome! It was a great experience. This exact plane has so much history and at the same time it is just an enjoyable flight. It’s amazing to think of all the stories that could be told.
I almost went in one of those, but they wanted $ 75 a ride that was crazy they wanted - 400.00 on the B-17. I know their expenses to operate, but come on back then only the rich can afford to go on a plane the same applies today😅
@@mikhailjairnisbett441 it was $100 per adult and $75 per child. You can sign up in advance and you should. It fills up almost as soon as they open up registration. You can also hope to grab a spot from a no show, but that is dicey at best.

I got to fly in the co-pilot seat last year when they were on tour in San Diego. Great time!
Orville Wright must have been smiling and laughing to have flown in this machine.
This is the first plane I was ever in, Rockford IL 1965.
I was 8.
Awesome!
Similar experience at the DuPage county air show in 1971. And I hot the model too. The plane I flew in had wicker seats.
@@paulbervid1610 Yes, I'm told the EAA has three tri-motors now.
The one I flew in had the wicker seats as well. Great memories.
I flew on her, she's an absolute dream. Keep on soaring, old girl.
Looks like a flying diner. Love it.
Nice to see the old tin goose still flying!
Took this ride several years ago, awesome!
Wow, epic, radials and all
amazing after all these years, beautiful to watch, thank you for this video.
Looks amazing! I'd like to go up in the Trimotor one of these years.
I highly recommend it!
I went for ride in that thing here at SFF a number of years ago. Pretty darned cool.

I took a ride in it in 1997. This brings back memories.
Cept for the noise...and the view...kinda like riding in a bus....smiles.
Beats a bus any day!!!!
I like the two old-fashioned office fans on the wings. I wonder how much power they add.
420 hp (310 kW) Wasp C-1 or SC-1 radials.

A piece of history.
In 1971 I flew in a similar plane with my Dad at the Dupage County air show. It was my first time flying. It had wicker seats.

How was it to fly?
@@bennieaust The only way for me to anwser that is. It's like flying a tank. lol Controls very heavy. But alot of fun.
Просто удивительно, насколько сильно развита малая авиация в США. Совершенно недосягаемый уровень для остальных.
I flew on one from port clinton ohio to put in bay ohio.. called the tin goose
Very cool! I would have loved to be on a longer flight. :)
Man, that was a good flight! And I’m watching it on RUclips video!

I honestly don’t know who the pilot is.
