    Great video, never seen this technique before! Tying eggs looks tricky, and some videos show to use a ton of foam, so I've always just stuck with Y2Ks, but definitely gonna try some egg now!

    Love it Tim! Just retrieved two dried up high-liters from the waste basket to be recycled into egg-tools. Might be interesting to tie up some of these with a small marabou and flash tail for bluegills. A white or yellow puff with a black center would make a nice eye on a streamer as well. Thanks, Hank

    Lynch showed me this technique a few years ago, using a hollow Papermate pen. They have the perfect diameter for Steelhead eggs in size 10 and 12, and very cheap to make. We use this technique exclusively for all our egg patterns. I do like the taper of the hackle pliers, which appears to make tying the material on a bit cleaner.

      +Alan Rohloff I have found for smaller eggs, I want to get as much compression on the material as possible. At the same time, the less material I have to take wraps around to attach it to the hook, the better. I have used pens, straws, flexible clear plastic tubing and even Jersey beach whistles in the past but with the McFlyFoam, I get the best results by compressing the ever loving $%&* out of it prior to taking that first cross wrap of the tie in process. Tell Lynch I said hi. Sorry I missed you guys at the shows. Lancaster maybe?

    great little tool. Much easier than a coffee stirrer. I will have to decide what I want to give up as far as those electrical clips (hackle pliers). Thanks for the tip. You put out a quality video. Wish I had a voice similar to yours. I would probably make some video. There are enough tiers out there though. All the best to you and yours. Sean

    Glo-bug makes a dispenser that is perfect for this, so that you won't have to ruin a pair of hackle pliers, and is probably easier to thread as well. You could probably also use a straw to thread everything through.

    • @CONEHEADDK
      @CONEHEADDK 3 года назад

      And the can be used for other things, fx whip finnishing mudler heads in under the deer hair, as the thread glides of the taper nicely, and the other end can be used to compress the body and to push the hair away while varnishing the knot, if you make a hole in the side of it.

    FYI, re. the comment about a"fair amount of pressure" pulling the threader to get the yarn through the hole. Don't hold on to the end! As shown in the video hold near the opening of the hackle pliers, otherwise it's easy to break the threaded which I did. But, they're slippery so go slowly and be aware. Also, a 5/64 opening might be too small (or my opening is a bit smaller) as I ended up cracking the end of the hackle pliers as I pulled the yarn through. It still works with the crack though. Just note that getting the yarn through the hole is challenging!

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  8 лет назад +1

      +Andrew Kaiser Andrew, for an egg this small made of McFlyFoam, a drinking straw simply has way too large of a diameter. The idea is to compress the McFlyFoam as much as possible prior to tie in, hence the small 5/64" opening on the tube. Thread is a personal preference thing and although GSP is strong I have never been a fan of its handling qualities. To each his own.

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  3 года назад

      You tried to pull too much material through the tube, it happens. Also, when you are pulling on the threader, hold onto the wire rather than the little handle at the bottom, the connection there is very week. In the meantime, use the wire from the messed up threader and this time use a pair of pliers to grip the wire and pull the material through the tube.
