It’s strange. You can tell that a remarkably large amount of effort was put into this game. The graphics are excellent for the time period, the story is coherent and thought out, and lots of little details are fleshed out. And yet, every aspect of the game, from the enemies, the deaths, the “panic” mechanic, and those bizarre “boss battles” comically fail to do anything but confuse the player. I suppose this is what happens when a game developer gets too wrapped up in their own game and doesn’t stop to think what an outsider would think of it.
MrTrebleCleff - Exactly! The scenes where the girl is dodging Mr. Hammer-Time were expertly choreographed. The warm glow of the lighting sets the atmosphere perfectly for an old, spooky mansion, while letting the player see what is going on. The voice actors, albeit poorly casted and given a terrible script, do a pretty good job delivering their lines. It’s all very well done, but its horrific intentions come across as cartoony. It’s like someone took a B-movie and tried to turn it into a genre-defining video game.
