      Cracking vid and VERY helpful for someone getting back into RC after some 15 years. Looking at The Traxxis Xmas for a joint present for my son and I. I think the parts are available in Germany too? I've noted some machines on a spreadsheet that someone with your experience gives a mention is priceless ! potentially saving tears and long term problems. I expect my lad to break things as part of the hobby but not the whole unit and not often when paying a few hundred buck, ponds or Euros.
      Due to the comments below (thanks all) I'll look at Arma and maybe save a few Euros. Thx again! rcnighmare AND to all of you posting sensible comments below.
      Finally rcnightmare, you could set up just a voting system with different links for different brands with a short few works "Click Thumbs up if you are an Arma fan" links from this vid?

    Been in the RC game 40yrs now and started in the epicenter - SoCal. Currently own, build, bash, race, collect, sell over 600 cars. That said, I like all the brands and encourage more. Love all the creativity and variety. If I had to pick one brand for sentiment, it would be Tamiya edging Kyosho and Team Assoc, TLR. If I had to pick one brand for race day, it would be Serpent edging Mugen Seiki, Schumacher, Team Assoc, Kyosho. If I had to pick one brand to bash all day, it would be Arrma edging out Traxxas, Losi. It’s all personal - my 4 favorite cars are my 4 first cars - Tamiya Hornet, Team Assoc RC10, Kyosho Ultima and HPI RS4. Thanks for the video.

    I own all Traxxas models. Not because they are the best but simply when things go wrong, they've taken care of me every time. Puffy traxxas battery? Been replaced. Broken parts on a new Ford GT and local shops don't have the parts? Traxxas replaced them. Random receiver problem on one of my spartan boats and it won't bind anymore? Traxxas sent one out no questions asked. With me owning quite a few of traxxas's products, I can go to any hobby store around any area and 99.9% of the time those stores carry most if not all the parts needed for traxxas products. That's why I continue to buy and run traxxas models is their customer service and just over all great products.

    I've owned about a dozen different RC products from drones to short course trucks to crawlers and bashers. My all time favorite is the Traxxas Summit. The thing never breaks, tons of upgrades and replacement parts available, it's quick enough to do some general bashing, but you can get technical and do crawling with it too. There is no other vehicle quite like the Summit. Yes it's expensive. But in my opinion, well worth the money.

  • @tekhCHEK

    Going to get nailed for this but being on a budget I've been bashing and racing redcat sc for a year and I love it. Most expensive part I've had to replace is worn drive cups and a center spur. I admit the servo saver does come loose as well as the front turnbuckles but both issues are easily fixed. Any issue I've had usually can be fixed with longer screws, adding nuts or some loctite.

  • @RawFitChris
    @RawFitChris 6 лет назад

    Way back when, I had a Marui Big Bear 4x4 truck and an MRC Tamiya Grasshoper among others. I always loved to build my own. Do they still have good rc cars today that you build, or are they all already built?

  • @P0110X
    @P0110X 7 лет назад +3

    I've owned traxxas, tamiya, mst, team magic, and exceed. Being from a country that doesn't manufacture rc's, I can see american brands are made for the american owner: not scaled indestructible stuff , and asian brands are made for the asian owner: scaled good looking stuff not meant for hard bashing.
    I love cars in general, real ones, rcs', computer generated ones, scale models, games, and so on. I like lookings, realism, scale, details, so I'm closer to tamiya, mst, yokomo. For example, real monster trucks run on solid axles, but that's pretty rare in the rc world.
    From my limited knowledge in marketing, every brand has its own direction to serve a particular niche of the rc world. They will find their way to profit by acquiring a 'small or big set of the cake' and making them happy. Quantities sold do not mean profit.
    So which brand of rc is the best for me? Tamiya, but recently got an MST CFX which has me thinking ;)

    I just got back into RC after 20 yrS and a RC10 2wd buggy with truck tires & body-I won a lot & HAD SO MUCH FUN!!
    I bought a 4wd Ultimate Slash to race & bash.
    I started bashing & don't even want to race or truthly deal with ALL the rules!
    Bashing is u your buddies and a lot of laughs/fun!
    So now it's time for some 1/8 Buggy wheels and that purdy JConcepts BAJR DESERT BODY!😁
    Traxxas customer service, parts/upgrade availability has made me a fan!
    Super nice people in RC now I was very suprised, not a fan of people in general.
    Traxxas, AMain Hobbies, AKAracing, Tower Hobbies, the people making all these damn awesome/informative RUclips videos and both local hobby shops Thank You for making the hobby even more ENJOYABLE!
    PROPS to ya ALL!

    For bashing, go arrma. Traxxas has so many great things, and I don't hate traxxas. They just have a lot of things that are petty problems. Ahem, 2075 servos, faulty VXL esc's, etc. Traxxas cars are made and designed to be upgraded to be as good as other company's stock stuff. Don't get me wrong, traxxas is great, but a lot of the time, I find myself saying "ugh, come on traxxas. Really? You can do better than this..."

    I was always a racer, so for me, Team Associated was always my brand of choice. On-Road was my main discipline, so the RC10L was my weapon of choice. AR just always had the best network of local sponsored racers, not to mention THE BEST distribution. Every hobby shop I ever walked into was always chock full of Associated parts.
    I stopped racing around 2001, which was mostly Nitro (since the electric scene had died around here), and I was running Serpent. Fast forward almost 20 years later, and I’m looking to get back in. Off road seems to be all the rage again, and if I go that route, I’ll probably stick with AE... but the competition is fierce, with European companies like XRay and Serpent offering products across all disciplines, and all scales. Man, what a decision...
    I’ve got an on-road track that runs 1/10 and 1/8th Nitro pretty much exclusively, so I might start off with the Serpent 750 Natrix (Serpent America is in my backyard) - local support should be good, given it’s the hometown favorite... We’ll see though.
    What happened to this channel? You get out of the hobby, or is TheQuartering taking up too much of your time? It surprised me to see you on an RC channel, lol.

    When I was a kid, teen years I was all team associated especially because I'm from Costa Mesa CA, but now that I just got back into the hobby and I bought the Redcat Rampage R5 1/5th scale and it shits on every rc I've ever had, I might be pro redcat. The reason I bought it is cause I wanted a 5th scale, I actually wanted a kraton 8s but it wasn't important enough to me that I was gonna spend $900.00 on it, so I got the R5 because supposedly it was a dud and would fall apart cause of a no lock tight issue so they were recalled and are selling on ebay, rtr for $495.00 with $35.00 for shipping, I hit buy it now, paid and went to home depot and bought lock tight, it arrived and I didn't lock tight a thing, nothing fell apart and the thing does 63 mph on asphalt and is an absolute beast, I'm so glad I didn't go with the kraton 8s because I destroy my buddies kraton 8s when we race and any time we collide my r5 just completely rides over top of his krapton, oops I meant kraton, So I guess I'm a redcat fan, that is until the Ryno Racing STA (Stronger Than All) 1:5 scale comes out, haha! I might really do it soon, Ryno Manufacturing is my machine shop and I have machines that are normal for the Aerospace and Dept of Defense contract manufacturer industries but for the RC hobby grade manufacturer industry my machines are Gnarly and would be excessive if that's all someone bought them to implement for support in building RC cars, that being said, if I do it the current brands might have to re-invent themselves, either that or the STA will be a specialty high dollar item

    I do not race nor do I really do any hardcore 'bashing'. I'm just a guy who enjoys going out to a dirt field (or a parking lot) and having fun. With that said, my 2 favorite brands are Kyosho and Tamiya - especially the retro kits. To me, buying a RTR takes half the fun away of proudly building it yourself and watching it run. Also, you learn the kit inside out and when there is a problem, you know exactly how to fix it =)
    IMHO, the armma and traxxas vehicles just lack 'charm' and 'personality'. Not knocking those who love these manufacturers, just a personal opinion =) Currently, I have a Kyosho Optima, Scorpion, Tomahawk, a Tamiya M-05 and Sand Scorcher...No, these won't win any competitions but I love them for what they are.

    Been with this channel since I was 9. Honestly, back then, if you wanted the big brands, it was Team Associated, Traxxas, Losi, Hpi, Tamiya and Kyosho, lastly Axial. from what I can remember. Those excelled in their own categories. Team associated with best competition trucks, traxxas with best bashers but had a lot of problems and often really expensive. Reason I say that is traxxas knows how to advertise and get young starters like I was to buy their cars. They are like apple, a lot of people like them, a lot of people dont. Losi on par with traxxas, but discontinued a lot of their RC's, parts harder to find. Hpi with their savage was right on top too, very powerful electronics, prob. Overkill. Tamiya and Kyosho was best for scaling cars, drift, on roads, etc. Axial was the way to go for beginner crawlers and scalers. Every company had their own problems, dont get me wrong, but I moved on from wanting Traxxas but never got one, to team associated monster trucks, to losi micros, then got into crawling for a bit, and now to tamiya cars, on street racing/drifting. Theres not really one favorite, one "BEST", you just got to do your research and watch reviews. Not every brand will make trucks and cars for you.

    Traxxas, but as you say, its because of the part support. I own the stampede 4x4 and i love it. Put the mxl6s and a 2650kv castle motor in it and upgraded to the max. And its a beast on 4s lipo. Beside the stampede i have the erevo en summit en the 1:16 ones. The 1:16 one are great but i think you need upgrades for it to bash it hard. The erevo brushles edition is in mine opinion the same. Great car but for 700 800 bucks you still need to upgrade the plastic drive line. I dont own a arrma truck but for what i see, there making great products fot a great price. Maybe my next truck is an arrma after i buy the traxxas trx4😜

    Driving Traxxas is why you are always needing parts. Get yourself an x-ray, Mugen, or Tekno. You won't need all those spare parts.

    I like Traxxas a lot and have owned many. Love the 4x4 models like Stampede and Slash. 2wd models like Rustler, Slash and Bandit I don’t care for. They are China dolls. That rear trans with the constant stripping of the spur gear and you look at those models wrong and something breaks! I’m quickly becoming a big fan of ARRMA. Great pricing and great value! Also tough!!

      Arrma Kraton is the best basher under $500. You literally can't dispute this as it's a fact. Just got done today at a monster truck competition with a long jump. I won the long jump on 6s stock pinon on Badlands. Took the jump 6 times with no damage. Just another bash session this arrma has blown my mind. It does Everytime. And I've had many slash 4x4s. You would put at least $800 total into a slash to get the metal, aluminum, and quality components this had for $500 out of the box. All you really need to upgrade is wheels and servo stuff. GTG. And Slash's are good little bashers. They are just not worth the 💰 anymore with better products at lower prices.

  • @jayaneyon9316
    @jayaneyon9316 7 лет назад

    I love my slash 4x4 but the majority of the parts are aftermarket. And mine has an strc aluminum and carbon fiber lcg chassis. In my opinion you have to throw too much money at traxxas's to get 'em to perform as well as they should. My favorite stock rc is my b4.2, and I'd have to go with AE as my favorite rc brand.

    I own an ECX Torment 1/10 Brushed. But my favourite brand is Traxxas for now I live in a small town at my local hobby shop they only have ECX, Traxxas, and Losi my Torment broke on the front bumper 2 times in 4weeks but don't go hate on ECX it was in the -15 digress in the winter . My RC is 300Total and we upgraded the battery to a 50C 5000mAh and got a brushless motor for 200$ totaland it goes 60MPH!!! NOW!!!

    TLR and associated win at the track. Arrma and traxxas are the top two basher brands. I hate traxxas (although i have some of their goodies) and i dislike any other brand but TLR (lol not really). The off brands are getting far larger and they are all garbage, bad parts support and terrible quality. Since I work at a hobby shop, i get a ton of people who drive traxxas who come in and some guys who drive team associated. If you want a "beginner basher", go with traxxas. If you want a "pro" basher, i highly suggest an arrma vehicle. If you want to race, its a toss up between associated and losi. I believe that losi has the edge on associated in the market and on the track after the release of the 22 4.0. Associated also makes some good cars, but i feel as if they just slowly copied the losi cars. They moved from a plastic chassis to an aluminum chassis, when losi came out with it years before associated. Associated looks so good right now because they have a better driver network than losi does, since TLR was formed decades after associated. Over time, I can see TLR getting as good or better than associated. Thats my $.02 about the market

    I've always been very loyal to Losi or Team Losi whichever you prefer to call them. But I understand that they aren't the best for everything. My fiance's first RC was a Slash because of Traxxas' quality and commitment to durability. I'm even currently looking at an Arrma Kraton because it's really starting to show itself as the best basher on the planet. It's funny how people get show wrapped up in brands with RC's. It's really just like the actual automotive industry and brand loyalty. I will always look at Losi first but my eyes are pretty open to the other options out there.

    mugen and tekno seems to be top dog in the 8th scale race scene. Arrma to me is the new rtr top of the line rc. the typhon talion and kraton are tanks. parts availability is coming up and they are basically bashers that can be raced casually and are the best bargain for what you get. arrma is legit. I think you will be impressed with those cars, the senton as well. it's all team durango stuff.
