Yeah the Schrader valve when you unscrew that top one sounded like it was leaking just so you know might want to replace the Schrader valves on that unit
Some critters for sure, she even said so. I never heard of keeping the doors closed because of varmints before. There was something rattling in that compressor that did stop, weird, but we have all heard some weird stuff in units and compressors before. It has got to be cooling much better now. As someone has stated before, there sure are lots of package units in your area. Nice job
The beginning conditions at 3:20 are ridiculous once you see the condition of the indoor Coil at 8:23. That amount if blockage should make the coil freeze up. The ending low superheat at 14:56 indicates that the metering device must be an orifice. It's likely that someone previously overcharged the system to address a persistent icing issue due to very low airflow. Therefore, it's essential to check the external static pressures. Sealing the return might further reduce airflow. It's also highly probable that the system is too large for the home. A smaller, properly sized unit might be a better match for the current ductwork.
We bought a Victor Rat Trap that is powered by "C" Batteries, and it sure gets the job done! There was an opening in our Log Garage from the outside that they found. It was killing one or two per night. There are no poisons for the Cat to get into! No more problems this year 😉
Been there done that. Suit up, put on your gloves and tape your wrists and ankles and wear a a good quality filter mask. Don't forget to spread some bait when your done. I really enjoy your videos. Stay safe.
I find the ones that have the coil outside the house with the compressor interesting. I take it it is always temperate climate there or something. Cannot imagine that in a place like Bismarck North Dakota. You would have tons of cold air coming in from that opening.
Another great save! . Use fiberglass filter? Where you were measuring liquid line temperature and pressure was before the condenser. Did it have a pressure port after the condenser?
It's when you are in a slight rush you faulter. Today is it " About to rain on me.. " - the other vid when you tried to go fast to save the Church some time/hour rate. Heck we all do it.
When the filter gets sucked back into the return box like that, the system is starving for return. Check static pressure. Ill bet another 12” return from the crawl space return plenum box would dramatically improve performance. I would tell the customer to start putting money aside for a new compressor. That one sounds like a cement mixer dumping its load.
that poor coil still looks dirty afte rbeing cleane dI had a rheem package unit i eventually was able to get rid of and get a regular split unit with a heat and a gas furnace
Hey HVAC Guy! I have a question for you. Can a double breaker auxiliary heat strip kit be wired using one breaker or one side of the heat strip, instead of both breakers.
@@richardbartlett6932 well something like air is not generally excepted to be run through a an AC compressor. Things like contamination of moisture is not going to condense the way refrigeration has been designed to condense.
A clogged filter will buckle and let dusty air in contact with the dew covered evaporator. The dust and water form a mud that becomes even more insulating when they dry. Doesn't take but a week for a leaky airfilter to cause a problem with the evaporator.
There's gotta be a rat living in that duct work. That was nasty. I'm surprised a coil that dirty didn't effect the pressures too much. You should have told that lady that closing doors isn't going to keep the critters out. Rats can squeeze into wherever they want. Give her a good spook. lol
The compressor sounded like it was shaking an aerosol can. Maybe she needs to adopt a young barn cat who has been taught by Momma Kitty how to kill quickly and that the prey is food.
Cats don't need to be taught to hunt or kill mice. It's in their nature. Mine is 14, and had never seen a mouse til about 16 months ago when a family of them found their way into my house. It took her about 3 weeks to get all 9 of them. I haven't seen one since.
@@OnusBones My cat personally delivers the carcasses to me, even in bed. She never chews them up, just worries them to death, then deposits them where I'll be sure to find them.
I still don’t understand why you use that foam gun. The coil cleaner is supposed to be put on as a liquid so the foaming action pushes the debris out of the coil.
Ugh that filter.....to thick for that return as it was just sucking it in!! Maybe a regular filter would be better? Take care and I appreciate the video!
yep, that was a really poor attempt at cleaning the coil...cover it with soapy water and leave it. You could see the foam on the ground was clean with no dirt dragged out the coil so it's doing nothing. The finished result was still surface dirty so it'll still be plugged .
That coil cleaner is useless, it's just foamy soap. . Buy some decent stuff that actually gets the dirt out. Get both coils properly clean, upgrade or repair the ducting then pull the charge and weigh it back in..
Yeah for sure, and it has a huge passageway right into the home's interior. I'll bet that sucker has chewed a hole part way between filter closet and the compressor unit, allowing detours into crawl space and framing. Nasty.
12 subcool and 11 superheat before clean 10 subcool and 0 superheat after indoor coil clean overcharged, but i dont think outdoor coil clean would make any difference

@@andyvitz but pressures were fine, so ... maybe not as long as caps seal the valves
recommend ,return vents above the doors ,that house is at negative pressure, and it will struggle with no returns.
@@MariosACandRefrigeration All you have to do is take an inch off the bottom of the doors, if that's the case.

There might be a problem when you walk up and the compressor sounds more like a vacuum pump 😂, that sounds is cavitation I believe.

Those are (were) my favorite compressors. Very bulletproof. Great video. Thanks for posting.

A much cleaner coil now Curtis 👍 Au
Looks like someone was living in the package unit.. Nasty!
A whole family! Nasty for sure, and unhealthy.
Those damn things go through expansion valves like crazy. I bet I've changed 15 or 20.
in this situation wouldn't it make sense to put filter inside package unit instead of at grill - protect the coil in case of return duct leakage.
Great job!

why would my superheat drop when it was normal before the clean?
That compresser sounds like it's overfilled but I don't see it sweating.
That return flex should be replaced. That dust indicates rodent damage.
need to pull a new return duct too and clean the cond coil...
Somebody left the winter blanket on, on the evaporator.
Because the evaporator coils are always wet with dew when in operation, any filter leakage causes a problem very quickly.
Hey HVAC Guy! I have a question for you. Can a double breaker auxiliary heat strip kit be wired using one breaker or one side of the heat strip, instead of both breakers.
Sounds like non condensibles in the compressor?

non condensables in the compressor Hows that work???
@@richardbartlett6932 well something like air is not generally excepted to be run through a an AC compressor. Things like contamination of moisture is not going to condense the way refrigeration has been designed to condense.
How does a coil get that dirty if a filter is being used?
because of that hole in the return, it sucks unfiltered air through any gaps or cracks.

Doesn't matter how thick the filter is. Once it clogs it will buckle and let dust collect on the evaporator.
So you’re saying you can’t restrict airflow with a filter that is to thick or has to high of a MERV rating for the CFM’s needed?
Someone ran that unit without a filter for a long time.
