Great videoo ! Great work curtis ! only 2 things i would different --- for the new guys. 1) allways Make sure the compressor runs BEFORE starting any work on a unit. I am always amazed at how people don't even seem to go and take a look at their unit before a tech arrives: old screen on top, debris built up on back and furry coils! Although, that outer louvered panel makes cleaning for a homeowner quite a challenge! Good job!
I had to laugh. While watching you clean that condenser coil, I said man that thing is filthy and 5 seconds later you said This thing is filthy 😂. And it sure was. Good job
exactly what i do, cheap hd soft paint brush, then soft vacuum and the chemicals if need it. takes 10-15 min extra, that i charge 4, but result is better imho. nice video thanks
You said it, get it while the getting is good. We wouldn't want you to be sitting idle. Make the $$ while it is there. That was another dirty coil. Like you said, in this heat you will find out the issues. That dirty coil didn't get that way overnight. Good video
I would have sprayed that condenser coil off first then applied coil cleaner. This isn’t intended as criticism just my personal preference. You do good work .
Did a rental house yesterday that we had to clear cut our path to the unit that looked just like that. Unfortunately it was one we had to pull the whole shroud off to get to the coils that also had vegetation growing all in it. Then move a house full of stuff in the basement only to crawl on my belly up a dirt hill under duct work and lay on my sides to work on the evaporator. And of course the drain was completely stopped up. I asked the customer about thier filter and their replay was "filter?" So I feel ya brother
Figures. Good thing to offer folks is to "Purchase a case of filters" so that you have them when needed and change them twice a year, just before spring/summer and just before fall/winter. Once they have them and see them, they tend to be more motivated to change them. If they don't want to change them, they'll hire you to do it but at least they will have the filters. Sad that folks do not understand that those filters are the key to being comfortable when its hot or cold and turn on the HVAC. Just like electricity, if its not there/on, the system isn't going to work well.
What always amazed me is that the power bills starting to climbi is almost never the cause of the call. People wait until they are hot to call the A/C guy.
This was a gnarly coil, however working on self contained units especially the sub making stations at publix those La Rosa' can be greasy with live cockroaches! Stick with residential HVAC lol!
Yes for years I did refrigeration service work. In the really cold weather then really hot weather. It was nothing to work 12 hrs days seven days a week. Then after hours emergency calls at night for our major companies. Hang in there , have a great day .
I clean my condenser every year, but before I do I check the amp draw on the compressor. Then I check it again post cleaning and it dropped 1 amp this year.
@@Funkybulb Exactly. RTUs, yes, but not on the ground even for businesses. The first time I ever saw one on the ground was in A/C school way back, but that's just because that's what they had available and shoved it in there. Never seen one on a residence though. Hey Curtis. I went to harbor freight and bought one of those little magnetic bowls. Put all my screws in it. It's a game changer when you go to put them all back together.

It’s satisfying when you’re done doing a cleaning like that. I had one today at a local restaurant bar evaporator was clogged and after I was done, it was working like a dream.
Wow that is dirty like it's never been serviced ever. Makes me really want to clean mine on the roof right now. The supplies you use to clean the condenser I think is what it's called is that in the description?
Good job. I did the same thing a week ago. This customer called thought it was freon. I checked her filter dirty and the unit was a york . Micro channel. Was clogged washed it. I love customer that don't maintain there equipment keeps me occupied.
The average person would have no idea that it needed periodic cleaning, or how to do it if they did. And they sure aren't going to take it apart to clean it.
It's hotter up there in Georgia than down here on the East coast of central Florida; but as they say, never fear when Curtis is near. Hope the Lieutenant is cooling his heels these days. 😎
Clear lesson in how important a clean coil is to the circulation of air across the coil to provide efficiency for the change of state to occur from compressor through the evap.
They told me design was for 95 degrees and 75 degrees inside and if it was above that you were on your own! They also said that if your Summers featured higher temperatures than that you needed oversized equipment most people would use a 2.5 ton for my house I had a 3 ton
Question, and I know it is probably just personal preference, but why the Viper HD cleaner? Growing up with my dad, working with him from the age of 11-18 during the summers, he used "the pink stuff" which was an acid based cleaner for condenser coils, then the green stuff for evap coils unless the coils were pulled, then it was the pink stuff for them. Once i became an adult and did maint on the side for ppl I know, i went with the Nu-Calgon blue coil cleaner (alkaline based). Now i have a container of Viper condenser coil cleaner to try when needed. Just wondering your preference of a "soap based" cleaner and not acid or alkaline based (i know about coated coils not to use them on or micro channel).
I just had a Ruud compressor get over heated yesterday. all windings completely grounded out. Took 1/2 hour with the house just to cool it down spraying with the hose
Love the videos. I have learned a lot so far. Could you explain your lingo of A/C terms?
