some tips for people learning this... #1: listen to it a *lot* ! this helps with your by ear memory and will aid you in deciphering it. it also helps to try and follow along in the music. #2: map out your practice! set *OBTAINABLE* goals and make a practice schedule- it will help you keep track of your progress and make you stay organized as well. #3: find the hardest and easiest parts. circle them, highlight them, put neon green tape over them and start by learning them, not at the beginning. doing this will decrease your chances of messing them up by ALOT and will give you a little satisfaction. #4: GO SLOW! You're not Lang Lang! chill and slow down, you'll make less wrong notes and bad habits. #5: regularly go over and look for wrong notes. trust me. the last thing you want are wrong notes. #6: OK, so youre able to play through it *somewhat perfectly* to the end, and now it's time to speed it up. start with a comfortable tempo with the metronome and do it 5×. now, speed the metronome up by a couple notches and do it 5×. keep doing this until you are at your desired tempo. !WARNING! THIS MIGHT RESULT IN CARELESS PLAYING, IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOURE JUST FUMBLING THROUGH THE PIECE, STOP AND COME BACK TOMORROW. #7: last but not least, do that scale at the end a thousand times! it would suck if you preform it perfectly and mess up the scale, so don't take any mutherfudgin chances yo!
Regardless of his interpretations his technique is still one of the best in the world, and if you fail to see a pianist's worth because he doesn't match what you think is "the right way" to play a piece you should reconsider your own ignorance as a whole.
+Ipokem0nI -- thankfully my finger tips don't sweat in the heat. I think because the skin is now hard like the fingers of a guitarist used to pressing metal strings. The rest of me sweats to make up for it like the proverbial pig.
How can people thumbs down this? Incredible playing! I enjoy all your videos and the tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to share your talent with us.
When you've been on RUclips long enough, you see that trolls will dislike/thumb-down anything that 1. is nice, and 2. requires something they lack - talent, skill, getting a life. 3. All of the above. Why? To get attention.
Victoria Grace Actually there are bots on RUclips to automatically dislike videos after so many views. The more views the more dislikes, it's supposed to be a way to show an even interpretation of how many people would have actually liked it, because no one ever really dislikes videos.
also I'm a beginner what do u recommend I start on ive been playing for a couple months bt only 1hr 4 days a week cuz I don't have my own piano but I taught my self the right hand of rondo alla turca and the first movement of fur elise but still have much to learn
2 thumbs up. Paul Barton is the greatest pedagogue of the 21st century. I follow him for the past few years. Ladies & gentlemen, Paul Barton is a very humble pianist, a professor who is #1 on the web. His knowledge of musicology, harmony, history & analysis of the designated piece, putting it on the timeline, in this case, the romantic era, when Chopin lived, makes his tutorials stand out on a much higher Plato than all the rest of the youtube videos combined. He is no doubt a great pianist by his own right who could easily perform in any prestigious concert hall, Carnegie Hall or Albert Hall if he wanted to.
Such a timeless piece of music. The beauty of the etude is magnified by the technical demands the listener knows it places on the pianist. Thanks for sharing this, Paul.
Dear Paul, thanks the magic of music, and the enthusiasm and passion you convey through your great playing, I feel as you were one of my oldest and dearest friends. Thank you so much!
Hey Paul, i love how you play these beautiful pieces and how you give all of them a personal touch :) i play the piano for six years now and i hope that one day i can play it as good as you do. Thank you for every video!:)
Absolutely brilliant Paul! I have studied overseas with a great pianist and taught piano nearly all my long life, also this is one of my very top favourite pieces but I would give such a lot to be able to play this with you marvelous accuracy, verve, contrast and range of dynamics and sheer musicality. I am having great joy in discovering all the wonderful videos you have made. Thank you so much.

LOVEEE this cover! I absolutely love watching covers of the same song, and comparing how people play them. What you accent, to me, is perfect. There is more emotion in this and you can clearly make up the story of what Chopin wanted people to see/hear, than someone who can just play the song regularly.
I'm back at learning this song, got about the first 40 seconds down and I just can't imagine learning the whole song lol. Paul always plays so pristinely. Having played it myself makes me all the more impressed.
Wow, this is just amazing. Most of time when I come to the internet after looking at the sheet music it doesn't sound right, but your just sounds beautiful, spot on.
You are one top world class pianist. You should go on a world tour and share your talent to us folks who can't be in your studio. Thank you for sharing your brilliant talent.
lol is it shabby?? From perspective of person who played piano for 15 years, it is pretty refined to the details. He is inserting as much as interpretation of his while trying to be exact with rhythm which he did magnificently. It is called different interpretation, not shabby technique.
We owe so much to all the artists from all fraternity for enhancing our lives ... And you Sir, your playing is exceptional.... Thank you so much for this video ... I'm a beginner piano player and I would not stop (perhaps I won't till I die) until I can play like you 😂 .. thanks for inspiring us all...
I used to have a recording of Van Cliburn playing this. I believe Paul is every bit as good as he. Awesome! And I've already learned a few things from him.
Bravo Paul! Such clarity, control and full expression! I wish the some of the notes had more sustained effect. Is it due to the position of the microphones?
Hi Paul. At 3:22 the left hand accents AAABAEA which sounds correct (it matches the theme) and every other performer plays it that way. However the urtext version I have says AAAAAEA. Did you change one of the As to a B? Or does your version actually include the B?
Hahaha! Maybe the fact this is an etude that makes me laugh, will make it less difficult to learn in the long run. Thanks for this performance, and the tutorial. I don't know when I'll be able to play it, but it is now considered a possibility.
My friends and girls always told me "how are u so good" and some of them just say "he's got talent, that's why". But really its devotion, love and practice that made me good. So people practice hard out and you'll go anywhere in music(I did 2 hours normal and 3-4 hours performances)
When there's bits of the video that show your face, it looks like your pounding the piano xD (I don't mean that in a bad way, I do it too) brilliant playing and pls do part 2 of this piece. Thanks

Zachary Thomas he is not, he chose to play bad, to fast, miss notes and shit but he is the definition of virtuosity.
No.3 *circles entire piece and labels as hard*
I saw you on Valentina’s video
Paul Barton's piano skills are underrated. He should be holding worldwide concerts...
He once did, but then decided that that life didn't suit him. At least, that's what we can read on his website:

@@keldest7497, interesting to know... Thank you
It's incredible how clearly your playing in a warm climate but your fingers don't slip up...

+Paul Barton question: how long did it take for you to be able to play at this level?
Approximately, for the technical part nine years, for interpretation, one life....
@@SGIFEATHER seriously, 9 years?
@@Leom-tg6qs Yes, but only for the technique, and the technique is not everything.
Amazing!
RafiRaffee hi!

Life is a Bell-Curve.... there are always people at the other end.
I'd say the dislikes are a combination of jealousy and people just being annoying trolls.
I love how you don’t overuse the pedal. Makes it a very refined rendition
Been waiting a long time for this! Wow that sound from sympathetic resonance at 3:17 is incredible.
+K46620 -- thank you for noticing!
published on my birthday yay pretty good present

moonlight sonata is a good one one of my first real pieces. also Bach prelude in c major and minuet in g.
K46620 do you think it reached her?

This is one of the best performances I've ever heard of this beautiful piece! Excellent stuff!
at the end you can see on his face just how much effort he put on this piece! GREAT JOB PAUL!!!
