      Good thought but throughout the process the outside of the thermos never even got warm. If you have a thermos that loses heat that would be a very good idea.

    Thanks for this video; you've persuaded me to get back to trying Thermos Cooking recipes using my Stanley 3 quart Vacuum Crock. Your 3 step process is very good, but would suggest you use some kind of wide-mouth canning funnel for transfers and definitely use an instant read thermometer instead of vision to tell if chicken is done. Lastly since you cut up the chicken into chunks at the end anyway, why not just do that right after pan searing, but before going into your thermos? The chicken would still be moist, but less likely to be undercooked.

      John Young, You have a good point about cutting up the meat, I definitely thought about that when I began the process because that is the way most thermos cooking recipes recommend. I decided not to do it because we've both heard that meat cooked on the bone is better. I wanted to try it this way and see if this was feasible to do, and it is. I kept touching my thermos throughout the process and it was always 'not even warm', so I had confidence the internal temperature was above 200F. When I took out the chicken it was actually too hot to handle even though I pulled it out with my hand. Also as a side note I was hoping to make bone broth- which I did and it was fabulous. Thanks for your input. I had fund doing this recipe and I hope to do some more in the future. Have a wonderful day.

    What an amazing concept! (I have never heard of this before.) Would this work with other meats?

      Yes definitely. Some of recipes I found included beef or pork. Basically think of what you'd put in a crock pot for stew and you have your recipe. A lot of people I saw used much smaller thermos and made a single meal. A few recipes did overnight oatmeal. I'm just thinking how nice it would be to head out to camp and focus on setting up your 'fire in the woods' and you don't have to worry about dishes because you can eat it right out of your thermos.
