    🍽 Good tips Jimmy! Thanks! I wonder too if you had done 1 cup of water to 1/2 cup of rice would have helped. Generally that is the ratio when cooking rice. 1 pt rice to 2 pts water. Using stock or bouillon instead of water makes for a nice taste too.

    Great concept for thermos cooking. I love love that collapsing pot!😍 For some reason this reminded me of an old cookbook I saw that a traveling salesman wrote sharing recipes of everything he cooked in the motel coffeepots😂 So camping, traveling and thermos cooking just seems to go together😉👍👏👏👏👏 Thanks for another educating video😁

    For whatever reason cooking rice using rice cookers and various methods has never produced the end product that pleases me, so now I will try what you have done. Thank you for sharing. I love your cooking videos, please don't stop. Cooking on the road in so many ways is different that in a fully stocked kitchen.

    Jimmy, this was genius! I was thinking...what if you soaked the rice in water and then put it in the kettle, then in the thermos? Soaking it might start to soften it up a bit and maybe that would help???? I look forward to part 2 of this and see if your changes make it perfect. Thanks as usual. I always enjoy your cooking videos! Well, I actually enjoy ALL your videos! Love to you

    We'll give you a break because you're young but a glass thermos is vastly superior to a stainless one. I've owned many of both. Here's an explanation: What you find in a thermos is a glass envelope holding a vacuum. Inside a thermos is glass, and around the glass is a vacuum. The glass envelope is fragile, so it is encased in a plastic or metal case. In many thermoses you can actually unscrew and remove this glass envelope.
    A thermos then goes one step further. The glass is silvered (like a mirror) to reduce infrared radiation. The combination of a vacuum and the silvering greatly reduces heat transfer by convection, conduction and radiation. I've used both types and experimented with different foods. Glass works better hands down. Especially with stainless, if you don't preheat with boiling water they will absorb energy like a sponge. Glass fell out of favor because they break easily and as far as I know they aren't making the replacement inserts anymore. You can still find them on ebay and they're well worth having, especially for prepping where the amount of energy you use to heat and heat loss is a factor.

    I’m going to try that, boiling them together first.
    Not having any luck with white rice (unless it’s instant). Mine sat overnight and was still rockhard, so I dumped the water and added fresh boiling water, now eight hours later it’s still rockhard. I was really hoping it would work (using the “dumping it all in and go“ Method).

    I just bring my rice to the boil, put on the lid and turn off stove and it continues cooking in the water without additional heating, all in a pot on the stove, same for most veges and also pasta. Added bonus it only takes 10-15 mins for white rice, pasta...5 mins for most vegies.

    • @jonnyxx5500
      @jonnyxx5500 3 года назад +1

      agreed. And if you have a "water seal" pot. (you know, the ones you spin the lid when boiling to create a seal) anything will cook to finish without any extra heat.

    Yum. Will practice at home. I'm not fussy about the rice I use If I am smothering it in sauce or stir frying, So maybe Instant/Minute Rice would come out ok, or faster. ? But that does look so light and fluffy. I have never used Jasmine. I just cook for myself - quick & easy.

    Yeah, the rice to boiling for a minute or two and then turn it off or very low. Using a cozy would ensure that it's fully cooked. You use 1 cup rice to 1 3/4 cup water unlike what it says on the directions. Minute Rice will soften without heat or altogether or you can pour boiling water and then close it up. I'm from the border of Louisiana. I know my rice. ; )

    Seriously? Three freaking hours to make a small portion of rice...that's insane. Thermos cooking has its place,but for small portions that require no more than 30-40 minutes or so (oatmeal,veggies,etc.) to cook or pre-cooking for later. The Hot Logic Mini takes about three hours to cook,but you can actually have a full meal when it's done. It also runs via the car's cigarette lighter when the car's off or on and at 48w it won't tank your car battery.
