Excellent job! I remember doing that with my kids for their lunches and now as grown up they still have their little Thermoses for hot lunches at work, with people trying to have a bite! By The Way, if you get a Canning Funnel, it should fit perfectly inside the mouth of the Thermoses and it's easier to spoon food into there, and less to clean up of any spillage on the sides. Hi Kerry. I pour boiling water from the kettle to prep the thermos'. My boys say sometimes their food isn't hot enough. It's a good tip if you've got an older thermos or off brand that might not be as good to keep the heat in xx
Yes I always do that too when it’s for chris or I but the kids always say it’s sooooo hot if I do their that way!! Haha! But their mouths do get burnt quite easily 😂😂
@@KerryWhelpdale what I do, is just blast hot water from the tap, put the lid on and that’s usually good enough. That way the hot food doesn’t immediately loose heat from the cold metal container.
i had thermos food flasks and while they've served me great, i made the step to upgrade to a stanley food flask master series and it has impressed me. i've loaded soups into it and it comes out steaming hot. nice work!

These are great ideas. My son is lucky that they still have hot meals at school but if they decide not to I will definitely try some of these. Might do these for work too! Don't have to go near the communal microwave then! I work with some baskets! 😅🙂
Our school has just this week started doing hot school dinners again but only twice a week and the rest is baguettes so the boys have been living these hot school lunches :) they are great ideas for lunch as yes I agree.. anything to keep away from the communal microwave!!! Xxx

I found your video to be helpful. I didn’t know that you were supposed to put boiling hot water in the thermos before adding your hot food to it. I used a thermos before. It was a Disney Frozen design that my little niece had at my parents home. When she wasn’t using it for school I used it for work. I used it mainly for ramen noodles, Mac n cheese or leftover goulash with corn bread. I just warmed up the food and then added it straight to the thermos. I just bought on Amazon the brand ZAK thermos in the Disney Stitch design. I found another thermos brand liked better but it was too tall for my lunchbox. I’m looking for ideas to put in my thermos since I can’t warm up meals as work I wanted a thermos. I will use mine for ramen noodles, tofu teriyaki brown rice bowls I make, and maybe tomato soup. But I wasn’t sure what else to pack in it. Some of my friends suggested chicken nuggets, warm dips, pizza rolls or any lefter dinners. One friend suggested to pour milk in it. Then out whatever cereal you want in a baggie on the side to make breakfast on the go. My exact thermos someone told me is good for keeping food hot for 3 hours or cold for 9 hours. But they said they put hot food in theirs at 8am and by 3 or 4 in the afternoon the food was still warm. So I hope mine won’t be flaw and will keep warm for longer than 3 hours like theirs did.

Gosh - lovely lunches for your kids❣️ Yet - here in Sweden the kids are served a warm, healthy lunch every day, including salad buffet, bread and beverage such as milk or water. They can get both gluten- and lactose-free meals. And of course a vegan/vegetarian option. Plus pork free meals. Never potato chips. Nor fried food. So stress free for the parents and great service for the kids! Our school in our town also serves breakfast to the pupils. Since it makes the grades go up significantly if the kids have a healthy, stress free breakfast.
Our kids also get offered hot lunches at school but once they are in heat 3 we have to pay for them so I alternate between home cooked meals and school dinners too :) I love that they feed kids breakfast in Sweden.. that’s SUCH a wonderful thing as I agree.. full tummies give children the best starter tool for learning :) xxx

Lovely lunches. We do got lunchboxes too and my girls get so many envious comments from their friends. Just a work of warning to some people-some schools don’t like soup as a hot lunch option for chance of spilling and scolding. So it’s not suitable for all schools and it’s best to check with your school on their guidelines on hot food. I know it sounds daft but I had a right palalava with my children’s school
I tried out the chilli earlier. Made the mince beef for my husband and a veggie version for me. Hubby said it was the best chilli I've made him. Can't believe how quick and easy it was to make. Thanks Kerry. Xx
Hmm, I really can't believe the sausage rolls would stay crispy/flaky, because I have put warm sausage rolls with kitchen roll as a base layer, in a tin and a tupperware container, and without the lid, they are fine, but with the lid, they go soft.. and with these staying hot, I would say they would steam, make the paper soggy, and then the sausage rolls... but, I guess for you, the paper inside worked, so that's all good!! Great recipes tho, some very yummy ideas!

Hi Kerry, I have exactly the same flask, but threw away the label that came with it. Do you wash yours in the dishwasher, or hand wash? I don't want to damage it if it's not dishwasher safe. Thanks D

I don't all the time, but you can put some boiling water in them and then empty the water out before adding the food.. but even without preheating the containers, the food stays soooo hot.. its great :) xxx
I prep a lot in advance and then pop them in the oven in the morning (for the sausage rolls anyway) The pasta I make the sauce in advance and then just make up the pasta in the mornings :) xxx

Not sure if u mentioned this in the vid but for the food to stay warm for long you have to pre heat the flask by adding hot water to it and leave it to sit for a few minutes before you add the food
Yes that 100% helps but for the boys I never do that as then it’s slightly cooler when they come to eat their lunch. But for chris and I, I always fill the flasks with boiling water while I prep all our food :) xxx
It seemed like so much food but when I sent the smaller thermos, he told me he was still hungry. He has take down the thermos twice because schools just opened and he finished it all. So wow. Boys eat a ton. My son is in grade six.

Hmm, I really can't believe the sausage rolls would stay crispy/flaky, because I have put warm sausage rolls with kitchen roll as a base layer, in a tin and a tupperware container, and without the lid, they are fine, but with the lid, they go soft.. and with these staying hot, I would say they would steam, make the paper soggy, and then the sausage rolls... but, I guess for you, the paper inside worked, so that's all good!!

I dont really like the idea of using the microwave at work so i never have a hot lunch so i will defo be getting a flask!

Now I never would’ve thought to put sausage rolls in a flask but what a good idea! Can’t beat a yummy warm sausage roll on a cold gloomy day! I’m going to try this when I go back to the office (whenever that may be!!!!) Thanks Kerry!

Hi Kerry, I have exactly the same flask, but threw away the label that came with it. Do you wash yours in the dishwasher, or hand wash? I don't want to damage it if it's not dishwasher safe. Thanks D
I only hand wash mine.. I’ve heard it’s not good to wash them in the dishwasher so better be safe than sorry I always think :) xxx

Hi, would you pre heat the containers first before putting the mac n cheese.
I don't all the time, but you can put some boiling water in them and then empty the water out before adding the food.. but even without preheating the containers, the food stays soooo hot.. its great :) xxx

I’m curious; are you guys cooking these lunches in the mornings and then packing them or making them the night before?
I prep a lot in advance and then pop them in the oven in the morning (for the sausage rolls anyway) The pasta I make the sauce in advance and then just make up the pasta in the mornings :) xxx

Not sure if u mentioned this in the vid but for the food to stay warm for long you have to pre heat the flask by adding hot water to it and leave it to sit for a few minutes before you add the food
Yes that 100% helps but for the boys I never do that as then it’s slightly cooler when they come to eat their lunch. But for chris and I, I always fill the flasks with boiling water while I prep all our food :) xxx

yes, make sure it hot though otherwise it will be cold

We just got those same thermos for my son. It seems like so much food. He used to have a 10 oz thermos. How old are your boys?
Yes they can hold quite a big amount so for Jamie I half fill it and Rory I fill it about 2/3 :) xxx
It seemed like so much food but when I sent the smaller thermos, he told me he was still hungry. He has take down the thermos twice because schools just opened and he finished it all. So wow. Boys eat a ton. My son is in grade six.
Oh my little girl barely finishes the food in her smaller thermos.
